Jaune and Courage the Cowardly Dog
Chap 4: Courage and Jaune Meet Big Foot
It was night time. Me and Courage were in the kitchen having a snack. If you can call a slice of pie and large glass of milk a snack. It was a week since the incident with the lady from the sea. Luckily, we have not seen her since and she hasn't tried with me or Eustace. Unfortunately, my sword and shield got so rusted from going under the water somehow that I had to throw them away and order new ones. Thankfully, I have enough money from working at Charlie's diner that I could afford new ones. They should arrive here next week. Hopefully nothing bad happens from now till then.
As I started to dig into my pie and Courage drink his large glass of milk in one go, we heard a crash come from outside. Putting down my fork and Courage putting down his glass of milk, we looked at each other for a moment. We then heard a loud growling coming from outside in the distance that sent shivers down our spines. Getting up from our seats, we went over to the window to check outside. As we got closer, the growling got louder and closer. Getting to the window, we looked outside and tried to find whatever was causing the growling. But it was really heard to see well as it was really dark outside. Hearing the growling again, we looked towards where it seemed like it was coming from and saw a giant creature that was eating something.
'AAAAAAHHHHHH!' Courage screamed when he saw the creature. He then moved back and started to fan himself with a fan that he pulled form his 'pocket.' After a moment, he ran to the living room where Muriel and Eustace were watching a movie.
'What is that?' I thought as I continue to stare out the window.
I could not quite make out what it was. Hearing the door open, I turned around and saw Muriel and Courage enter the kitchen and headed towards the door to check outside. Moving towards them, I decided to take a look as well to see what it was. Opening the door, we stepped outside and looked around and saw nothing as usual. Except that as we looked around, we saw that the trash cans were raided with the trash eaten. One of the bins even had a giant bite mark on the side. I doubt even Nora could make a bite that big even on pancakes.
"Oh, it's just the racoons. They must be hungry." Muriel said when she saw the state the trash was in. She then went inside the house.
"That was no racoon." I said as I continued to look around to see of the creature was still around.
'What was that thing?' Courage asked as he held onto my legs in fright.
"I have no idea Courage." I answered. We then turned off the back light and went inside and closed the door. Hearing the oven open we saw Muriel take out a pie and place it on the windowsill.
"This is our lovely dessert for tomorrow." Muriel said turning to us. She then patted Courage on the head before ruffling my head a bit as well. "Goodnight you two."
'I hope we make it until tomorrow.' Courage said still in fear at what he saw and what it could be.
"Don't worry Courage. We will make it." I told him as I petted his head to calm him down. "Let's head to bed as it's late."
He nodded and we went our separate ways. Him to Muriel's room while I went to my room. Inside my room, I changed into my pajamas and got into bed. But as I laid there, my mind wandered back to that creature and what it could be. Honestly, it could be anything. Since the lady from the water, I have been very open minded in what could something be. I have even begun to wonder if the mythological creatures that I read/learned about when I was a kid were real. Maybe the creature is something that people thought to be only myth is real. Knowing that stressing over won't fix the problem, and missing sleep will make it harder to stay awake tomorrow, I decided to finally go to sleep.
Except that I couldn't. My mind was too awake still. I tossed and turned and tried different positions to fall asleep. But each attempt failed. Sighing, I decided to get up and head to the kitchen to make some warm milk as that always made me fall asleep quickly. Getting up from the bed, I headed to the door and was about to open it when I heard the sound of something falling down the stairs. Quicky opening the door, I raced to the stairs to see that it was Courage who fell down the stairs. Apparently, he was unable to see where he was going as he was holding a big pair of binoculars to his face. Thus, his painful fall down the steps. But he must have not even registered the pain as he immediately got up, started hopping up and down and run to the kitchen. Thinking that he saw something, I quickly followed him to the kitchen as well. Entering the kitchen, I saw him looking around as if he saw something enter the house.
"Courage, what did you see?" I asked him. Instead of answering, he kept looking around. Hearing a noise come from the window, we looked over there and saw that something was trying to get the pie that Muriel left out earlier. Courage gasped and dove for the pie.
'Racoon or not. You're not getting this pie.' Courage said as he struggled to hold onto the pie. Knowing that he was going to lose, I decided to rush outside and confront the creature. Even though I did not have a sword or shield, I could at least try and scare it off. Quickly heading to the door, I opened it and exited to the house and raced around to the house.
"HEY!" I shouted out as soon as I rounded the corner. Only to see two giant eyes widen in shock and possible fright and run off faster than I could have ever imagined. Faster than Ruby could ever hope to achieve.
Hearing a loud thud come from inside, I went back inside the house. Only to see Courage against the wall on the other side of the room from the window. The pie completely destroyed and covering his head. The pie tin strangely in the shape of his head. Seeing the mess, I went over to the sink and soaked a small hand towel and brought it over to Courage. But before I could start cleaning him, we heard a voice get attention.
"Ahem." The voice said. Looking up, we saw Muriel none too pleased with what she saw.
'But-But-But-' Courage tried to get out and explain himself but failed to do so.
"That's alright Courage. I'll make another pie in the morning." Muriel said cutting him off.
'But-But-But-' Courage tried to explain again but again was interrupted by Muriel.
"Next time, use a plate." Muriel told him before turning to me. "Jaune. Be a dear and clean him up. And then head to bed as it's mighty late." She then left the kitchen and went back to her room.
"You alright Courage?" I asked him as I started to clean him. He did help a bit but more in the sense of eating the remains of the pie off his head which caused me to chuckle a bit.
'Yeah. I'm alright. Did you see what was on the other end of that pie?' He answered before asking.
"No, all I saw was a big pair of eyes. And that was only for a split second as it ran away so fast that honestly, I am not sure if I saw something actually there or the fact that I am so tired right now, that I am seeing things." I answered. Courage got up from the floor and went to the window and started scanning the area outside.
'There was something on the other side of that pie. Or my name's Alloicous. And it's not.' He declared as he turned back around to face me.
"I know Courage. But whatever it was, it's gone for now. Why don't we get some sleep and we can come up with a plan in the morning?" I asked him. He nodded and we both went back to our respective rooms for the night. Luckily for me, as soon as I laid my head down on the pillow, I fell asleep instantly.
8:00 A.M.
It was early in the morning and I was in the kitchen with Muriel. We were baking another pie as the other one got destroyed last night when Courage tried to prevent the creature from taking it. Opening the oven door, I placed the pie in it before closing it and setting the timer. Once done, I went over to the sink and washed my hands before heading over to the table and pouring myself and Muriel a cup of tea.
"Thanks again Jaune. The pie should be done within the hour." Muriel said as she sipped her tea before beginning to wash the dishes.
Nodding, I went to the living room to see what Eustace and Courage were up to. Entering the living room, I saw that they were watching the television. I was about to ask what they were watching when an announcement came on.
'This is special Nowhere News. There's a bigfoot in these here parts. He's been terrorizing Nowhere.' The reporter announced.
'That is one skinny ass reporter.' I thought as I saw the reporter was almost bone thin. Going to stand next to Eustace and Courage, I continued to listen to the report.
'Now we know the cause of all them disasters.' The reporter announced as images of various places and incidents I have never heard of appeared on the screen. Such as a giant rock statue and a large sinking ship that easily rivaled any ship Atlas ever built and what looked to be a coliseum of some kind.
'We found proof positive that bigfoot is here.' The reporter continued before bringing up a picture that showed a ginormous footprint. 'I, hear, tell that a reward is being offered by the Nowhere Museum.'
"A reward?! That's for me." Eustace said excitedly as he moved his seat closer to the television.
'Greedy bastard. Something big is happening and all he cares about is the money.' I thought in disgust as I shook my head at him.
'$25 dollars and a life time membership.' The reporter said announcing what the rewards was. Though, it did not seem like much consider if what they said is true, and that bigfoot did cause those accidents, then we are going to need a lot more money.
"ZOWIE!" Eustace shouted startling me. Turning to him, I saw that he had gotten up from his chair and started dancing. "A lifetime membership?"
'Can you believe this guy?' Courage asked me with a dead pan look. I just shrugged my shoulders at him. Turning back to Eustace, we saw that he was still dancing. Completely in his own world.
"Oh, baby!" he shouted in happiness before jumping up and clicking his heels together. Only to be rewarded with sickening sound of his back cracking. Landing back on the floor, he placed his hand on his chair to stay up while his other hand went to his lower back in pain.
'If anyone has any information about any strange doings lately, contact us.' The report said getting our attention.
"A reward. A reward. And a lifetime membership to boot. Oh!" Eustace said with a laugh, momentarily forgetting about his pain and now thinking about the reward again.
'But, my friends, be careful.' The reporter warned as if talking specifically to us before the t.v. suddenly turned off by itself.
"What's all the excitement?" Muriel asked as she entered the living room while drying her hand with a hand towel.
"I'm going to get myself a bigfoot." Eustace declared before he made straightened himself. His back pain forgotten as he started to leave the room all the while saying. "Ah, the reward. That's for me. That's for me."
"Now, what's wrong with your bigfoot?" Muriel asked only to receive no answer. Completely misunderstanding what Eustace said.
'Maybe it was bigfoot that was here last night.' Courage told me in a panic. 'Although I certainly hope not.'
"You could be right Courage. But let's not jump to any conclusion just yet." I told him. He seemed to agree with this but still seemed extremely worried.
'Your right. But we can't just sit here and do nothing. We have to do something.' Courage countered. Clearly worried for Muriel's safety.
"Alright Courage. How about we go and try to find any evidence that he was here last night?" I suggested.
'Good plan.' He said agreeing with me before pulling out a gigantic magnifying glass.
"Alright. Let's head outside then." I told him.
Exiting the house, we decided to first head to where we normally place the garbage cans as that was where we think we first saw. Getting there, we looked around and saw nothing aside from a few pieces of trash still around. We then split up a bit to cover more ground and try to find anything that could possibly relate to bigfoot. Even though I have no idea what to actually look for aside from a big footprint. Though as I continued to look around, I could not help but wonder what the people back at Vale would think if they saw this. Probably think that I have lost my mind. And in a sense, they would be correct as because my mind was on them that I did not see the hole in the ground that I just fell into.
"Ow." I said in pain from the sudden fall. Getting back up, I walked to the edge of the hole and got out of it.
'You, okay?' Courage asked as he came running up to me when he heard me fall down.
"Yeah, I'm fine Courage. Just wasn't paying attention to where I was going that's all." I told him as I dusted myself. Hearing a gasp, I turned to Courage to see that he was in shock while looking at the hole I fell into. Turning around, I completely understood why.
It was a gigantic footprint in the ground that can only belong to the creature known as bigfoot.
'AAAHHH!' Courage screamed in fear before leaving his magnifying glass and running as fast as he can back to the house.
"Courage, wait!" I shouted only for it to fall on deaf ears as he kept running back to the house. Knowing he might need some help, I chased after him. A few minutes later and we made it to the house. Entering it, we went to warn Muriel. Though as we entered the dining room, we saw Eustace going over an assortment of tools. Curious, we stopped and watched what he was doing.
"Mousetrap, fishing pole, fly swatter, iron torture collar. Ha, ha. Now I'm ready to get me a bigfoot." Eustace said as he checked of each item on the clipboard he was holding.
Getting impatient, Courage went up to Eustace and tried to tell him what we saw. He even turned into a giant hairy to try and help get the point across. But Eustace, being Eustace ignored him and grew angry that Courage was even near him.
"Get away from me. I'm going to get me a reward." Eustace growled at him before smiling wickedly when he mentioned the reward again. Courage was about to try again but was stopped when we heard the doorbell ring. Knowing Eustace would just slam the door on whoever it was unless they give him money, I went to answer it.
"Hello." I greeted as I opened the door. On the other side was a tiny old lady who seemed devastated as she was barely keeping herself together from crying. "Are you alright miss?"
"Please mister. My little boy is lost. Have you seen my little boy?" She asked.
"Sorry but I have not seen any lost boy recently. Do you have a picture or something so I know what he looks like when and if I see him?" I asked.
"No. But I can get one. I'll be back later." She answered.
"Alright. I'll be here. And if I see him, I'll let you know." I told her.
"Thank you young man. You're so kind." She said before leaving. Once she was gone, I closed the door.
"Who was that Jaune?" Muriel asked. Next to her was Courage.
"Some poor lady who lost her little boy. She said she will be back later with a picture so we can now what her son looks like." I answered.
"How sweet of you to help." Muriel said with a smile. She then stepped to the side as Eustace exited the dining room. Oh, Eustace where are you going?"
"Going to get me a big foot." Eustace answered before heading to the door and exiting the house. We all looked at each other a moment before Muriel broke the silence.
"Come on Jaune and Courage. Let's have some pie." She told us before entering the kitchen.
'Who can worry on an empty stomach?' Courage asked with a smile. I nodded in agreement and followed him into the kitchen where we got a big surprise. Inside the kitchen, Muriel was feeding a pie to a giant hairy creature with big feet.
'AAAHHHH!' Courage screamed as soon as he saw the creature. The creature heard Courage scream and turned to face him and roared back at him. They kept on screaming like this for a few more minutes before finally stopping.
'That must be bigfoot. Not at all what I thought he would look like.' I thought as Courage and the creature stared at each other.
"I think I'll have a wee cup of tea." Muriel said suddenly. Completely ignorant of the fact that Courage and Bigfoot just screamed/roared at each other. Fearing that a fight might break out, I quickly stepped in between Courage and Bigfoot.
"Don't worry Courage. I won't let him hurt you." I assured Courage as I stared down Bigfoot who just matched my stare with one of his own.
'What do I do? What do I do?' Courage quickly asked himself worried.
Turning to face him, I was about to try and calm him down only to be surprised when I saw that he grabbed a large watermelon from out of thin air. He then reared back and threw it at Bigfoot. He was obviously not expecting it so he did not react in which resulted in the watermelon hitting him on the head and breaking upon impact leaving behind a mess and a new hat for Bigfoot. Angered, Bigfoot retaliated by throwing the pie that was on the table next to him at Courage. Only to miss as I quickly pushed Courage to the side so he wouldn't get hit. Which resulted in me getting hit. Removing the pie tin from my face and licking whatever pie remained on my face, something I am not ashamed of doing whenever that happens, I turned to Courage to see that he is now using the kitchen door as cover as he threw a tomatoe at Bigfoot. He missed though as Bigfoot dodged to the side who then grabbed the kitchen table and placed it on its side in front of him to act as makeshift cover. He then went in cover and pulled out a roasted pig and threw it at me. I managed to dodge it in time though. Feeling a tug on my pants, I saw Courage hand me a whole cooked turkey. Taking it a I threw it at big foot only to miss as it hit the table and not him. Only to see a few bananas follow up my shot but miss as well. Turning back to Courage, I saw him tossing a few more bananas but was blindfolded the whole time.
'Show off.' I thought with a smirk as Courage now held a cauliflower in his paw.
Turning back to bigfoot, I saw that he was now angry and held what I presumes is a crab cake. As evident by the crab arms that were in his dish. Knowing things were about to get intense and that I cannot produce foods from thin air like these two, I decided to stand on the side lines and make sure Muriel does not get hit. Walking over to her, I picked up a chair and placed it next to her and sat down.
"Fancy some tea Jaune?" She asked me as she held out a cup of team for me.
"Thank you, Muriel." I told her.
She smiled and we resumed watching the massive food fight between Courage and Bigfoot. Right now, it was a constant flow of food being throw from both sides. Any and all food types were being thrown at each other. I think I even saw a whale and jack o lantern being thrown. Courage at one point even started using a fish as a bat to launch the food Bigfoot threw back at him. Courage even started to taunt Bigfoot a few times. All the while, Muriel was sipping her tea and acting like this was all normal. Like two babies playing with each other. Looking back at the two, they have somehow stared making small objects of real-life things. Like a lady holding a torch, to a military person and to an elephant. Courage then threw a pineapple at the elephant in an attempt to create something new. Only to destroy in instead and cause all the fruit the made up the elephant to fly everywhere, A banana even flew to the radio and turned it on to some tropical dance music. And somehow from that small elephant, enough fruit covered both Bigfoot and Courage to give a fruit hat and skirt.
'Oh, I just have to do this.' I thought as I got up and turned off the lights in the kitchen before turning on the middle one to give off a pseudo dance floor.
Courage and Bigfoot then moved right under the light and started to dance. I even began to hear some lady singing to their dancing. Smiling, I went back to my seat and continued to watch. Honestly, this was adorable. Courage looked absolutely adorable while Bigfoot seemed like a big friend who just wanted to have fun. Honestly, just seeing this made me realize that Bigfoot was no threat at all and was friendly. They kept on going for a while with them switching up dancing styles every few minutes. It was only stopped when Eustace came into the kitchen.
"Hey. What's for dinner?" He asked as he entered the kitchen. He looked around before gasping once he saw Bigfoot in the kitchen with him.
"AAAHHH!" Eustace screamed in fright with bigfoot doing the same also in fright. Eustace then ran away in fright from Bigfoot.
"Don't worry about him Bigfoot." I said as I got up from my chair and walked over to them. "He just got shocked is all." He smiled at this before shrugging his shoulder and continued to dance. However, this time, he was interrupted by a rock going through the window. Luckily, I saw it and managed to move Bigfoot in time so that he would not get hit. Unfortunately, the sound of the window breaking and the rock falling to the fall woke up Muriel who at some point throughout this whole food fight and dance had fallen asleep.
"Wha- What's going on?" She asked as she looked around the kitchen.
'Oh great, here comes a lecture.' I thought as I mentally prepared myself for it. But before anything else could happen, we started hearing chanting coming from outside.
"Bigfoot! Bigfoot! Bigfoot! Bigfoot!" The chanting said. Concerned, me, Courage and Bigfoot went to the window to look outside to see what was happening. And what we saw scared us. There was an angry crowd demanding for bigfoot to come out. Each and every single one of them had either a pitchfork or torch in their hands.
"Bigfoot. Come on out." Eustace demanded while holding his iron torture collar. Clear as day that he was the one who summoned the angry mob to the house. Hearing footsteps behind us, we saw Muriel pick up the rock with an angry face before stomping out the house.
"Who threw this rock?!" Muriel demanded.
"Get out of the way Muriel. There's a bigfoot in the house." Eustace warned but more so threatened.
"You'll get a big lump if you throw another rock." Muriel warned.
"Bigfoot! Bigfoot! Bigfoot..." The mob shouted. A group of the mob even came forward with a large log to be used as a battering ram and started using it against the front door.
'Crap! That door is not going hold long!' I thought in panic. I turned to Courage and Bigfoot and saw that they were both shivering in fear.
"Come on Bigfoot. We have to get you out of here." I told him. I moved to grab him his arm to start to get him out of here but he moved back before I could do so. He then growled in both anger and irritation before running though the wall and roaring at the mob. Quickly going after him, I saw that the mob and Eustace seemed to cower back a bit in fear yet remained where they were.
"Wait. He's not as bad as you think he is!" I shouted out. Courage even transformed into an angel to try and help get across that Bigfoot was nice. However, it fell on deaf ears.
"What are you, men or what? Get that bigfoot. I want my reward. And my lifetime membership." Eustace shouted to the mob. This seemed to made them lose their fear and step closer to us. I moved to stand in front of Bigfoot to stand between him and the mob. Ready to protect him and give him the chance to get away.
"What are you all doing to my boy?" A familiar voice asked above the cheering of the mob. A moment later, the lady from earlier came through the mob.
"Theodore." She shouted out while waving.
"Mommy!" Bigfoot shouted out in joy. They then started running towards each other and once they reached each other they gave each other a loving hug.
"Aw." The mob said at seeing the loving affection between the two.
'Such a touching moment.' I thought as I saw them continue their embrace. Only to be rudely interrupted when Eustace placed his iron collar around Bigfoot's leg.
"Ha, Ha. The reward is mine." Eustace cheered. Only to be hit in the head by the rolling pin of Muriel.
"Eustace, take that collar off the child's ankle." Muriel demanded.
"NO!" Eustace shouted back as he crossed his arms.
"YES!" The mob demanded.
"Make me!" Eustace challenged. The mob apparently wanted this as they seemed to smile and began to chase after Eustace.
"Ahh. Stay back. Ahh!" Eustace said scared before running away with the mob hot on his heels.
'That's what he deserves.' I thought as I went up to Bigfoot and started to remove the collar around his ankle. "There you go bigfoot."
"Thanks." Bigfoot said before giving me a bone crushing hug.
"No problem big guy." I said as he released me.
"Theodore." His mom said getting his attention "Next time you want to play, stay in our backyard."
"Sorry mommy.' Bigfoot apologized.
"How many times have I told you? You stay around the house." his mom reprimanded him as she grabbed his ear and made him follow her back to their home.
"Such a lovely family. Don't you agree Courage?" I asked him. He nodded with a tear coming from his eye as we watched the mother and son return to their home.
"Now, how about we all enjoy some pie?" Muriel asked getting our attention.
"Sure." I answered with Courage nodding excitedly.
Soon, we were on the front porch eating some pie. As we ate the pie, I thought back to the Arc family and how this would have never happened when I was with them. No love or affection. Just cold shoulders. After years of that, I began to think that a family's touch can only happen with those that are the same and never make mistakes. Yet I was proven wrong today as Bigfoot did make a mistake in leaving his home yet his mother still loved him despite what he did. Looking to Muriel and Courage who were both eating some pie, I knew that I am with people who care for me despite any mistakes I have or might make.
'There's a little bigfoot in us isn't there Jaune?' Courage asked with a smile.
"You aren't wrong with Courage." I answered. He smiled and was about to take another bite of his pie when suddenly a banana came out of his mouth with the lady I heard earlier singing again.
"Don't worry Courage. I gotcha." I said while trying not to laugh as I removed the banana from his mouth.
Note:
In some chapters, Jaune might do as much seeing as there isn't much, he can do without changing the entire episode. So, some chapters he might do a little less than others. Ex. The Gods must be Goosey and Mother's Day
I will not be doing the episodes Freaky Fred and Angry Nasty people as I want to keep this story T rated and those shows have a high chance of bumping the rating to M. Especially considering the theories behind Freaky Fred.
Some chapters might be delayed a bit as I try to figure out how to fit Jaune in the episode. Ex. The Transplant.
Any suggestions on these episodes are welcomed.
Still undecided on the pairing (leaning towards the storm goddess) but will be announced in the chapter featuring the episode So In louvre are we two.
