The girls of Spice Chord had gone to look for books on Mystrallia's culture. Laura had gone to look for books on fashion, Charlie had gone to look for cookbooks, and Jacklyn was looking for spellbooks. She wanted to learn as much as she could about Mystrallia in order to blend in. Laura had found information about exclusive fashions in Mystrallia. People preferred to wear cloaks and dresses that resembled those of the ancient past. Charlie had found recipes on how to make a special sophisticated dessert similar to the deco-desserts from the previous day. It was a cube and required many layers. It was also bite-sized. According to the book, it was called a Le'quorice. Charlie was not used to sophisticated treats, but had attempted to make some for Laura many times over. However, most of her attempts had ended up in failure. Despite those setbacks, she never gave up trying to get a successful fancy snack right. She wrote down the recipe for reference when returned to her home to start baking.
Jacklyn was the only one who hadn't found what she wanted. She was in the section of the library dedicated to spells and various magic types. However, the books contained information about the spells, not how to cast them. While she could learn how to cast spells, she did learn about advanced spells and how certain spells had to be cast. One spell she found was one that could only be cast when done with a specific wand movement. She was grateful that there she had at least gained some knowledge of what spells existed in Mystrallia. The others came in and expressed their joy in what they learned. Laura soon sensed Jacklyn's sadness and asked what was the matter. "There are no spellbooks in this library," Jacklyn said flustered with the discovery. Laura wondered if there were spellbooks present, but had all been checked out. Laura returned to the librarian and explained what her friend had encountered.
"Of course there are no spellbooks here in the public library," the librarian said amusingly, "you don't want to have an accident in here now do you?" Laura was unsure of her word choice, but continued by asking if there was another library with spellbooks. The librarian soon replied, "I'm afraid the only libraries with spellbooks are the school libraries, and they're only open during the school year!" The librarian soon began chuckling heartily, and Laura soon left to return to Jacklyn and report to her the bad news. Jacklyn was disappointed, and decided to leave the library.
As the girls were leaving the library, they noticed Ran leaving Mystrallia with a golden cocker spaniel. What particularly caught their eyes was that Ran was now wearing a white coat that verterianrains wore. The girls remembered that Ran had mentioned helping the animals from the poachers who were still stuck on the island, and figured that Ran and her cocker spaniel friend were heading. The girls then followed after the girls to see what Ran and her friend were up to.
Author's note: the final paragraph of this chapter is from the perspective of Spice Chord, which is why they do not know who Sarah is.
