Title: Will Love Overcome?

Chapter 6

***OPA***

(Olivia goes through the front door of the company she shares with her sidekicks. After the night she had earlier, she needed a good rest of the evening. She rests her purse on her desk and then goes to see how the rest of the gladiators are)

Olivia: "What's the latest update guys?"

(Huck and Quinn look at each other with their eyes a bit widened before facing their boss again. Olivia studies both of their facial expressions and can tell that something is off)

Olivia: "Okay, talk to me, you two. Something seems wrong. What is it?"

Quinn: "Huck did a little digging into Elijah's past while you were gone."

Olivia: (nods slowly) "Yeah, I asked you guys to do that and you offered, too. We all knew that it'd be a long shot because we all know my father does a very good job at hiding things." (rolls her eyes) "Unfortunately."

(Huck had stayed silent this whole time, which Quinn and Olivia noticed. Huck continues to look down or look between the two ladies. Finally, Olivia puts a stop to it. Olivia sighs deeply and faces her male colleague)

Olivia: "Okay, Huck. What's wrong? You've been quieter than usual. Talk to me."

(Quinn faces Huck and nudges him to spill the beans)

Quinn: "He found something."

Olivia: (confused) "On my dad? What'd you find?"

Huck: (a bit nervously) "It's something that your dad wanted hidden, but I was able to find it. I almost didn't find it. He hid it well."

Olivia: (raises her eyebrows) "Is it that bad, Huck? I'm guessing it is if it was hard for even you to find."

Huck: "I think if your dad had it his way, it would've NEVER been found." (nods) "It took a little bit of digging, but I got it."

Olivia: (sighs deeply) "What is it?"

Huck: "You might want to sit down for this."

(Olivia gives him a weird look as she turns her head slightly)

Olivia: "Huck?"

Quinn: (nods) "I'm sitting down, too, because I was shocked."

(Olivia faces them both before sitting down. Once she'd seated, she nods at Huck to tell her what he knows)

Huck: "You know how you were raised to believe that you were an only child?"

Olivia: (nods) "Yeah? What about it?"

Huck: (shakes his head) "That's not entirely true."

Olivia: (puzzled) "What do you mean? I have a brother, a sister, or a twin out there somewhere?"

Huck: (nods slowly) "You have a twin brother."

(Olivia shakes her head in confusion)

Olivia: "I don't understand. Why haven't I met him? Why is he such a big secret?"

(Quinn and Huck face each other and scoff in response, causing Olivia to raise her hands to her sides in expectancy)

Olivia: "What? What are you two not telling me? Quinn, I take it Huck told you everything?"

Quinn: (nods) "Yes, he did. And, be prepared, Liv. You're not going to like this…your father's secret."

(Olivia places a few strands of hair behind her ears and readjusts herself before speaking)

Olivia: "Okay, one of you, just tell me. What's the secret?"

Huck: "You have a twin brother who has Down Syndrome. When you and your brother were born, you were born first. Your mom had a difficult pregnancy and the doctor recommended that she terminate one of the fetuses. When your dad asked which fetus was the one in danger, your mom paid no attention to that. She wanted both babies. She would love both babies. Your dad fought her on that. He said it wasn't fair to the baby to be born. That the baby didn't ask to have Down Syndrome. The doctor said they wouldn't know the extent of the damage to your brother until he was born. Your dad urged your mom to terminate the boy as he didn't think it was fair to the boy to grow up like that. Your mom adamantly refused."

(As Olivia was listening, she was shocked to find out that, not only does she have a twin brother, but he had Down Syndrome. Sadness overcame her that her father kept this from her. She then shook her head as she realized that it was just the thing her father would hide from her)

(Quinn saw Olivia's distraught state and comforted her boss as well as friend before facing her)

Quinn: "Talk to us, Liv."

(Olivia wipes her tear-stricken eyes with her hands before speaking)

Olivia: "Go on, Huck. Is there more?"

Huck: (nods) "Yes, there is. Once your brother was born, he was deprived of oxygen as your mother had a difficult birth. Your father still couldn't believe your mom kept the boy. You had no complications, but your twin brother did. After running tests, the doctors and pediatricians discovered he had cerebral palsy and they wouldn't know the extent of how bad it was until he was a few years old. Plus, due to the deprived oxygen, the doctors didn't know how it would affect his brain or his daily life. When your mom asked the doctors if there was a chance that he would grow up to be a handsome, smart young man who would have no problems in life, the doctors said there was always a chance. But, of course, your dad didn't sound convinced."

(Olivia got the picture of what Huck was saying)

Olivia: "In other words, there's no telling how he'd be or what he'd be like in the present tense."

Quinn: (raises her eyebrows) "If he's even alive. I mean, with all of those health concerns, I'd wonder, too, if your brother is still alive."

Olivia: (serious tone) "But I'm sure that Elijah would know."

Huck: "Do you think it's enough to bring him down?"

Olivia: "I hope so. I'll find out when I confront the jackass."

(Meanwhile, Jake walks to the park bench that overlooks the White House and sits down. He leans forward and rests his elbows on his thighs)

Jake: "What the hell is going on around here? First, Olivia wants to be with me. Then, she changes her mind at the drop of a hat." (scoffs) "I still think it has to do with Elijah, but I can't prove it. Then, Fitz, of all people, says Olivia's being backed into a corner and that she doesn't love him anymore. That her heart is with me."

(Jake shakes his head in confusion as he places his forehead into his hands)

Jake: "I-I don't know what to think anymore. Everyone is saying different things. I've tried going to Olivia, but I can't get anywhere. Elijah is a fucking asshole. Fitz told me what he thought." (nods) "Let's try Quinn and Huck. They may work for Olivia, but maybe they'll give me answers." (scoffs) "I think I'm losing my mind."

***The Next Day***

(It is around 8 A.M. and Olivia is banging on Elijah's front door. He rushes to the front door in annoyance)

Elijah: "The way you're banging on my door, my neighbors would have some choice words for you."

Olivia: "You'll manage. We need to talk. Now."

(Before Elijah can object, Olivia lets herself in)

Elijah: (rolls his eyes) "Make yourself at home."

(Once they're both in the living room, Elijah grumbles)

Elijah: "You know, I was enjoying my cup of coffee at my kitchen table until you showed up."

(Olivia smirks as she folds her arms and tilts her head)

Olivia: "Now you know how I feel when you make your sudden announcements. It's not nice, is it?"

Elijah: (narrows his eyes) "Just get to the point."

Olivia: (serious tone) "Were you ever going to tell me that I have a twin brother?"

(Elijah has a shocked look on his face, causing Olivia to grin)

Olivia: "What's wrong? Cat got your tongue, dad?"

Elijah: (clears her throat) "How did you know about that?"

Olivia: (shakes her head) "I won't reveal my sources."

Elijah: (shrugs) "It doesn't matter how you found out…..because your brother is dead."

(Olivia's look of grin goes to confusion at Elijah's statement)

Olivia: "What?"

Elijah: "He died at birth. Too many complications at birth. It was sad, yes. But it was for the best."

Olivia: (scoffs) "How can you say that? He was a human being!"

Elijah: "Olivia, he would have had a rotten upbringing. It's better that he didn't make it."

(Olivia shakes her head in anger)

Olivia: "No wonder Mom divorced your sorry ass growing up! You're a pathetic excuse for a father."

Elijah: (shrugs) "Call me what you want. I did what I thought was best for the family."

Olivia: "There must be records that you kept of him."

Elijah: "I threw them out a long time ago."

(Olivia had a feeling he was lying about that and knew what her mission was next for that. She points at her estranged and demented father and speaks in a warning tone)

Olivia: "This isn't over."

(Livia walks out of the house in a huff)

***OPA***

(Jake walks in and goes to Olivia's office, but doesn't see her there. He then walks around the building until he sees Quinn and Huck sitting across the long conference table. After clearing his throat, Quinn looks up to see Jake. She offers a smile and gets up from her chair to go to him)

Quinn: "Hi, Jake. What brings you by?"

Jake: (nods) "That's what we need to talk about."

(Jake raises his hands to his sides as he speaks)

Jake: "What's going on with Olivia, Quinn? She went from wanting to be with me to doing a complete 180?" (shakes his head) "Am I wasting my time? Fitz basically told me Olivia wants me, NOT him. I-I don't get it." (sighs)

(Jake turns his head and wipes his face with his hand as he speaks)

Jake: "In my heart…" (faces Quinn) "…it's telling me not to give up…my instincts are telling me not to give up. But, I need SOMETHING to hold on to, Quinn. SOMETHING."

(Jake shrugs his shoulders in defeat)

Jake: "Can you give me that?"

(Quinn sighs deeply in response. She felt horrible, HORRIBLE, for Jake. She knew that Olivia loved Jake with all her heart, but was protecting him from Elijah. However, Jake was right. He needed something, anything, from her and Huck to tell him that Olivia hasn't give up on him. Against her better judgment, she decided to help Jake out. Quinn led Jake to Olivia's office and shuts the office door behind him)

Quinn: "I'm only going to tell you this once, so pay attention. Got it?"

(Jake wasn't sure how to respond, so he just nods)

Quinn: "Hang in there a little bit longer. It'll work itself out."

(Jake looks around without moving his head, trying to understand)

Jake: "O-kay. Wh-What does that mean?"

Quinn: "Just stay away for now. We're taking care of it. I don't know how long it'll take. Be patient. Do NOT tell Olivia I said anything. You said your instincts are telling you not to give up? Trust them." (sighs) "That's all I can say."

(Quinn nods her head in seriousness at Jake. Jake was getting the picture that Olivia, Quinn, and Huck are or were planning something. He just wished that he knew what it was. He nods his head and says he won't say a thing before leaving)

(Quinn goes back to the conference room where Huck is. Huck is staring at her in the face)

Huck: "I hope you know what you're doing."

Quinn: "Olivia and Jake deserve to be together. I'm just slowly helping them out. They will eventually find their way back to each other."

***Later That Day***

(Fitz calls Olivia to his office at the White House, saying they need to talk ASAP. Olivia couldn't help but wonder why. After arriving at the White House, Lexie announces her arrival. Fitz thanks her and Lexie shuts the door behind her)

Olivia: "Okay, why am I here? I thought that we settled everything."

(Fitz looks at Olivia right in the eyes from his desk and speaks)

Fitz: "I want to know what kind of game you're playing."
