Chapter 6
Kate's P.O.V.
In the next day, after breakfast, we were on the couch when my mom Sarah called Diana. My sister put her on speaker.
"Hey, Sarah" Diana greeted.
"Hi, mom!" I said happy.
"Hi, honey" my mom said to me.
"What are you doing hanging out with a vampire?" she asked to Diana.
"Does Em being spying on me? Anyway most of the things we have told about them aren't true" my sister questioned.
"He could feed of you. Take your memories!" Sarah alerted.
"My sure that's not true" Diana contradicted.
"It's what they do, Diana. He could had fed on you already. Seen everything you saw when you opened the book. You wouldn't remember!" my mom insisted.
"He wouldn't do anything like that. I'm not in any danger with him".
"We can trust Matthew, mom. He is a good men" I defended him.
"You know him, Kate?" my mother asked me.
"Yes, I do. I'm going to work in his lab" I told her.
"What? You can't do that! It's dangerous!" she screamed at me.
"No, it isn't" me and Diana disagreed at the same time, making Sarah sigh.
Fortunately, my mom Emily intervened "I'm happy for you, sweetie".
"Thanks, mom" I thanked, happy for her understanding.
"How can you support this?" I heard Sarah questioned Emily.
"She is not a child anymore, Sarah. Besides, no one judges character better than she does" my mom Emily remembered.
"Diana do you remember the stories your mom told you when you were little? The shadow prince that lived between sunset and moon rise?" Em questioned to Diana.
"Yes. I used to love those stories" my sister answered.
"What if is him?" my mom suggested.
"We are putting two and two together and making five. We have no idea who this vampire is or what he wants" Sarah said
"Well, he is coming to dinner tonight so I could just asked him" Diana said shocking my moms.
Our talk didn't last much longer and me and my sister get dressed. I choosed a black sweater, jeans, black shoes, a blue bracelet covering my right wrist, a necklace with a black flower, earrings with beautiful blue flowers, a black leather jacket and finally my blue purse.
Today I only going to work in Matthew's lab after lunch so I went to the market with Diana. We had just got out of our apartment when I saw Marcus on the sidewalk "Hey Marcus" I said smiling.
"Hey, Kate" he said back, next to me, with a beautiful smile and I noticed that he had dimples on his cheeks.
Marcus looked at Diana who was on my other side, and didn't had recognized him, and said "Good morning!"
"I presume that is not a coincidence that you are outside my college" my sister said.
"Matthew is away at a conference. He asked me to keep an eye on you" Marcus explained to Diana.
"Do you know what is about?" I interrupted him curious.
"Molecular Biology Techniques" he answered me with a small smile.
"Is he always this controlling?" my sister questioned him.
"With us, yes. But with a witch, it's a first" Marcus' answer caused smiles in all of us.
"Ok, then. You might be useful. I'm feeding Matthew tonight. Talk me throw it" Diana said.
Me, Marcus and Diana went to a huge market and my sister had just bought meat when Marcus bargain "Look, I will tell you what Matthew likes if you go to the lab and let me take your blood".
Diana looked at him with a look on her face that totally said Hell no.
"We had been taking DNA from witches' remains and identified four originals clans" Marcus told us making me really interested "Don't you want to know which one the Bishops belong to?"
He questioned to my sister while playing with a pepper and I saw her hesitation. When she look at me, next to Marcus, I said "Come on, D. For the sake of science. Besides, roots are important".
I had a begging look in my face and it must being really good because Diana agreed in go to the lab with me and Marcus.
3ª P.O.V.
When Miriam saw Kate getting in the lab she got confused "What are you doing here? You only start at 2p.m."
"Hey Miriam, me and Marcus convinced my sister to give you her blood so you can analyzed her DNA" the younger Bishop explained with a smile which made Miriam notice Diana and Marcus behind the brunette.
Diana only smiled and nod at the vampire, while Marcus said "Hey, Miriam".
"Alright. Sit." Miriam said to Diana and left them to get the things she needed to take the witch's blood.
Like Miriam told her, Diana sit on a bench. Kate stand next to her sister, leaning against a table in front of Marcus who was leaning against a counter.
"Are you sure who want to find out about the Bishop blood?" Miriam asked Diana when she was sitting in front of her collecting the blood "I certainly want".
"What would this tell us?" the blond questioned to Miriam.
But the answered came from Marcus "Your inherited traits and powers and where you come from. Throw your DNA we can trace it back to one of four witch clans… "
Matthew's entrance interrupted Marcus and froze everyone in the lab.
"What the hell are you doing?" the angry vampire questioned to Miriam getting closer to her and Diana "Stop now!" he ordered.
"If any vampire is going to take her blood is going to be me" Matthew concluded.
Miriam hand over the blood collection tube to Matthew and got up. She stopped next to Marcus and watched Matthew collecting Diana's blood.
Kate was focused on Matthew and Diana's interaction therefore when she heard a growl she was startled. Kate's reaction didn't pass unnoticed by Miriam and the owner of the growl, Marcus, who stopped immediately when he look into Kate's brown eyes.
Miriam looked surprised to Marcus, who didn't moved his eyes from Kate, she never thought that Marcus would be able get his eyes off Diana's blood.
Matthew put away Diana's blood and Miriam questioned Kate "Aren't you going to give me your blood?"
"I'm not a witch" Kate said when she looked away from Marcus.
"You are the sister of one. We can understand why you are not a witch when it's hereditary" Miriam explained.
"Trust me, Miriam. It's not a scientific mystery" Kate claimed with a sad smile which made the vampire raised one of her eyebrows. However Kate didn't explained.
Matthew, Diana and Kate walked out of the laboratory, but before Kate got out Marcus called her "Kate?"
The brunette turned around and face him "Yes?"
"Would you go out with me tonight?" Marcus asked her with a smile taking her by surprise.
"Hmm, I not sure if …" Kate answered hesitant.
"Just as friends" he assured "This way you don't have to stay with the two love birds" Marcus said referring to Matthew and Diana.
Kate hesitated, but because she didn't want to interfere with her sister's dinner and the idea of spend the night with Marcus was more attractive than stay in her room all night, she accepted "Ok, then".
"Perfect. I will see you at 7?" Marcus said happy that he convinced Kate to go out with him.
"Yes. See you later, Marcus" Kate said with a smile getting out of the lab.
"See you later, Kate" he returned standing at the laboratory's door.
He watched her walked away with Matthew and Diana and his heart beated faster when he saw her look at him one last time before she disappear from his view.
The second time Kate walked into Matthew's laboratory that day, it was 1:55 p.m. and she was ready for her first official day.
"Good afternoon, Dr. Shepard. Professor Clairmont" the human greeted.
"Hello, Kate. There is no need of being so formal. Matthew and Miriam it's fine" Matthew said with a small smile.
"Ok, Matthew" Kate agreed also smiling.
"So, where should I start?" she questioned excited.
"Well, since you never study creatures' genetics, I thought that you could start by learn everything about genetic characteristics of each type of creature" Matthew suggested.
"Yes, that would be great" Kate agreed.
"Here" Miriam said when she handover a flash drive to Kate "Here are all the documents you need to learn about it".
Miriam's consideration caught Kate by surprise, because the Bishop never thought that Miriam would have the work of get the documents together so she could studied them.
"Thank you, Miriam" Kate thanked with a true smile on her lips.
The vampire only noded indifferent and kept working on her computer.
After Matthew recover from the surprise that see Miriam's consideration caused him, he lead Kate to a table and explained to her some basic things about the lab.
Kate's hours on Matthew's laboratory consisted mainly in see and study the reports, graphics and notes that were on the pen that Miriam gave her. But Kate also asked questions to the vampires working next to her, who always answered her patiently, and took her one notes and deductions.
Kate got out of the lab, after saying goodbye to Miriam and Matthew, and went home so she could prepared herself for the date with Marcus.
