Lost Sense of Purpose

Chapter Sixth

"He mostly hangs out at the gym, rec room, or library." Captain Reads had to say on Sergeant Janey Mills the one man that had shot Gibbs in the back and shoulder.

"Show us these places Captain except for the Gym?" McGee said to him with his anger building further that Gibbs was going to have a long recovery away from his job with NCIS even though he was planning on retiring to work at the Academy and gun range as a teacher.

"Very well please come with me Agent McGee." the captain said with the other NCIS agents following needing to arrest the sergeant.

They followed while Mrs. Marcie Gibbs was being escorted to sickbay in order to see her husband once again injured in the line of duty. She walked inside the large section with one of the female escorts to bring her to her husband's alcove. Since the surgery had been done on him trying to repair the damage done by the sergeant.

Taking a deep breath her husband was laying in bed with a face mask over his face looking really pale. She pulled over a chair to hold his cold hand. She began to cry again as she tried to control her emotions. This was getting to be just too much for her to bear right now. And being pregnant with their third child was even worst with each and every time.

She had a brief chat with the doctor telling her the situation that they will have to wait and see if the spine will heal properly from the bullet fragment. She really didn't need to take care of a husband that isn't able to walk with his mental state always in the dark void.

She had been through enough of that for when she was like that years ago with her daughter Elizabeth dying in the car crash with her driving in a rainstorm and with the breaks going.

The doctor had mentioned that there was a possible chance that he might wake up and she needed to keep him calm as much as possible.

She was staring down at his craggy features as if he was appearing like a 100-year-old. "Dear God!" She was seeing that his eyes were opening with the flutter of his eyelashes and his crystal blue eyes." Welcome back, Jethro. I am glad you're alive?" she says to have Gibbs with one of his famous smirks.

"While I was holding on Marcie. I was thinking a great deal about you. I tried to block out all of the pain from getting shot in the back and shoulder unlike over the years for when I was shot on the job, and now again."

"You're very lucky with having to find out who exactly had shot you and has been arrested. At least you don't have to work undercover any further on the carrier?" she said with annoyance.

"Was it the same man that shot and killed the Naval officer on board the carrier?" he asks with asking for the remote to raise him up slightly in order to see her face better.

"It was Jethro. All those involved as well have been arrested for giving statements before being taken to security and then being taken back by helicopter to stateside and NCIS for shooting and having been involved with you," she says with pushing back his hair falling down his brow.

"How bad Marcie have I been injured?" he was getting down with needing the truth now.

She needed to take a deep breath before telling him the news. "You're not able to walk at least for now with your spine having been damaged. The doctors don't think it's going to take all that long once the swelling goes down with two of the vertebrae. However, there is a possible chance of using the Cell Regeneration program once again. She needed to say with needing another drink of water.

"So I am having paralysis Marcie?" he asked with emotion and a slight tear falling down his face.

He had gotten quiet. "Look Jethro I am here to help out for now until I come back," she said with a deep breath again feeling the baby moving inside her stomach.

"What's wrong, Marcie? Is it the unborn child?" he cried out with wanting to touch her belly with her hand.

She moved in closer to him so that he can touch her belly by placing his callous hands under her blue shirt.

"Do you feel him, Jethro?" she commented having found out the baby was going to be there their boy with three-of-a-kind jokes between the both of them.

He was surprised that she didn't get the chance to tell him the news before leaving for the undercover operation. However, it's over now with he husband having been shot in the back and shoulder.

"Actually I do feel him, Marcie. But why didn't you tell me earlier before I left for the carrier?" he asks with the importance of the question.

She was getting antsy with all of the questions. "Because my mind was on other things at the time. And one of them was and the undercover operation with not using your brains about the dangers of the job?" she was angry as with her husband when he had heard her voice.

"Where do you get off telling me that Marcie? When my job is very important to me and I need to or else I will lose my mind?" he said for which she had no idea what the hell he was talking about.

"You know what Jethro, I have no idea just what you're talking about? I would have thought that your family was important to you during these past four years?" she cried out with her response.
