It was the day after Zak and Budgie had started their lessons with Pips and Crysta on using their new magic.
While learning how to use their magic to help heal and grow the forest, both Zak and Budgie kept getting the same uneasy feeling.
Luckily for Zak and Budgie, Batty had cause a distraction when he ended up slamming into the trees so the two new fairies took their chance.
Once the two were away from the others, they decided to fly to the edge of Ferngully to see what was causing them to feel unsafe everyday.
When the two reached the edge of the forest, Zak and Budgie quickly went over to the construction workers to listening in on them talking.
"Taking down all these trees is a pain." One male worker complained, his co-workers agreed with him while Zak was turning white from that.
Zak was remembering when he was suppose to clear away trees but thanks to that, Ferngully was almost destroyed by a certain smog monster.
"Hey, be glad it's only the dead ones." A female worker told them, Budgie new that dead trees could often get sick and spread to healthy ones.
Budgie whispered to Zak why getting rid of any and all dead trees was helpful to the forest so he calmed down but Budgie was still worried as well.
The workers knew that clearing away the dead trees was hard but it would also allow new baby trees to grow while helping the forest out even more.
Another male worker went up to an ugly black tree and looked at it. "We should get this one with the chopper." The same worker told the others.
Something about the tree made Zak and Budgie shiver in fear. "What's with that tree?" Budgie asked Zak, he knew what or rather who was in there.
"We have to stop them right now Budgie." Zak told her, Budgie was even more worried now. "Why? What's the matter?" Budgie asked Zak in fear.
Sadly though, the workers started up their machine then it started chopping and cutting the wood of the tree as some sludge came out of the black tree.
"Oh no!" Zak moaned, Budgie watched the slimy black sludge move around as it made a strange sound that was very similar to laughter but it was evil.

At the end of the song, the evil entity laughed as he had regained his black smog form. "Who or what is that thing?!" Budgie asked in fear, Zak was worried about this but he knew he had to answer her right now.
"That's Hexxus and he's tried to destroy Ferngully before." Zak answered Budgie, two realized that Hexxus was the one who had been giving them that uneasy feeling and they had to warn the others right away.
"Let's get back tell everyone." Budgie told Zak, he agreed with her so they headed back Ferngully. "This must be why Magi Lune brought us to Ferngully." Zak said in realization, Budgie gave him a confused look.
Zak explained that since they both helped the forest before in different ways, Magi Lune must've know that Hexxus would end up being freed so she had sent them back to Ferngully to help save their friends home.
"That makes sense because we both want to help protect the forest and animals." Budgie reasoned, with that in mind, the two flew back to their friends but made sure to warn all the animals to get to Ferngully safely.
"Crysta! Pips!" Zak and Budgie shouted anxiously, Crysta and Pips flew to them. "Whoa! What's going on?" Pips asked Budgie as he caught her, Budgie was panting hard. "Ferngully's in terrible danger!" Budgie replied.
"What do mean?" Crysta asked her, Zak and Budgie calmed down enough to explain that they had seen more humans nearby and that they had accidentally freed Hexxus from his imprisonment in the tree once more.
After hearing that, Pips suggested that they call a meeting which his friends agreed with so the four split up to gather everyone to the main tree in order to come up with a plan to stop Hexxus one final time forever.
Zak and Budgie met up again as they joined everyone in the biggest tree with all the other fairies and animals that could fit as everyone tried to come up with solution and the two hoped that they would win the fight.
"Think we can beat Hexxus?" Budgie asked Zak, he looked at her then remembered what had happened last time. "We can if we all work together." Zak said to her, Budgie looked at everyone and hoped Zak was right.
