The Titans arrived at the bank and gathered around each other to go over the plan. Even early, there would still be people in the bank that could be used as hostages. The plan was for Raven to get the people out while Robin, Beast Boy, and Cyborg go in to take on the Hive and Starfire to make sure that none of them try to go out through any exits. Once they had everything agreed on, they entered the building.
They walked in and saw that Gizmo and Mammoth were carrying bags of cash, See-More and Private Hive watching the workers who had arrived to open up the bank, and Kyd Wykkyd forming a portal to send the money to their hideout wherever it might be. Seeing they hadn't been spotted yet, Robin decided to make their presence known.
"Show's over Hive! I suggest you come with us quietly."
Everyone's attention shifted to the heroes that had entered the building. Mammoth and Gizmo dropped their bags, while See-More and Private Hive turned away from the workers being held hostage and came over to get into battle stances. Kyd Wykkyd dropped his portal and now everyone was ready for a showdown.
"You snot munchers think you can beat us? Last time I checked, your little green pet messed up last time and helped us get away. Who's to say he won't do the same again?"
Before anyone could react, a green cheetah was sprinting full speed for the foul mouthed villain. Right before he got to him, he launched himself and transformed back into human form. A dark, angry look was on his face. He was in no mood to play around. This time, he was going to teach this punk a lesson.
As he reached him, he lowered his head and speared the small boy. The momentum was so much, it carried them through a wall into an office. The villain landed on his back back, destroying it in a frenzy of electricity and wires. Everyone else was so stunned at how quickly Beast Boy advanced on him and sent them both flying, the Titans forgot their plan, and the Hive was just standing there dumbfounded. Once they were out of their shock, everyone flew into battle mode. Cyborg engaged with Mammoth, Robin with Private Hive, Raven with Kyd Wykkyd, and Starfire with See-More.
Back with Beast Boy and Gizmo, the green hero got off of the now angry and defenseless villain. Once he figured out his backpack and gadgets were done for, he went into a rant.
"You moron! You broke my backpack! You stupid green-"
Before he could finish, a sharp elbow connected with his nose. Blood came pouring out and he was screaming in pain. Beast Boy then picked him up and threw him against the wall face first, causing more damage to his broken nose.
He walked over slowly to the screaming boy, like an animal stalking its prey. His eyes were cold and his gaze looked full of hate. He grabbed the boy by his face and leaned in close. The villain instantly knew that he was about to be in a world of pain.
"I've had enough of that mouth of yours. Looks like no one taught you how to have manners. Let me fix that for you."
His voice was a low, menacing growl that could make even Batman afraid of what was about to come. Beast Boy reared his fist back and struck hard, landing a punch straight to his mouth. Teeth and blood went flying, landing far from where they were. Another punch. Then another, and another. Blows landed down with such strength and quickness, Gizmo had no time to scream or react to the pain before the next one landed.
Beast Boy grabbed him by his neck, picking him up and slammed him through a table. The now broken and battered villain was barely conscious, pleading for mercy and trying to crawl away.
"Your mouth got you into a fight you can't win. I'm not the same person you used to fight. Let's hope the paramedics get here before it's too late for you."
He proceeded to give him a hard and vicious kick to the abdomen. As Gizmo crunched up and rolled over from the pain, Beast Boy took it as an opportunity to land another sharp kick to the face. Gizmo's face was now covered in blood and swelling from the vicious beating that Beast Boy was giving him. But he wasn't finished yet.
He got back on top of Gizmo and started landing elbow after elbow to his face. It was so quick and so strong, even when Gizmo covered his face up, the momentum would carry through and do more damage. Gizmo thought he was going to die and if weren't for the fact he was still a hero, Beast Boy might have strongly considered doing so. This though, was just a lesson. A torturous and agonizingly painful lesson that he'd make sure this little bastard would remember.
The other four Titans had finished off their opponents and had rounded them up. See-More and Private Hive were out while Mammoth and Kyd Wykkyd had been incapacitated. When they realized that there was one member of the Hive missing and one of their teammates missing as well, they began to get curious. They saw where the two of them landed and began to make their way over. Robin was the first to reach the hole and the sight before he saw horrified him.
Beast Boy was still viciously beating the tiny villain without any mercy. Blood was now on both of them and Robin was pretty sure that it was Gizmo's just by looking at the boy's face. Beast Boy hadn't had a scratch on him. Other than blood, his uniform only had the drywall that he sent himself and Gizmo through on it.
Cyborg was the next to reach the hole and was slack jawed just like Robin. The girls came in next and each had the reactions as the boys. They had never seen so much anger and hatred put on display by the green boy. His blows didn't look to maim, but to seriously injure the boy underneath him.
Robin broke out of his reverie first and tried to yell to get Beast Boy to stop.
"Beast Boy, enough! He's already out!"
It was like it fell on deaf ears. He didn't even react to his leader's words, just continued to pound on the villain. Cyborg was the next to break out of his state of shock and went over to get Beast Boy off of Gizmo.
"B, it's over! You're gonna kill him!"
He tackled the green hero and finally the beating had stopped. The battered villain was a pool of bruises and blood. Teeth were missing, his eyes were swollen and shut, and his nose was smashed in and bleeding profusely. Robin went over to assess his state while the girls just looked at Beast Boy with fear and worry. This was by far the most violent they had seen him. He knew what he was doing to the villain and had continued on without a second thought. Robin called for an ambulance and proceeded to tell the dispatcher that it was an emergency.
Beast Boy finally got Cyborg off of him by roughly pushing him away and got to his feet. His gaze landed on the boy he had beat within an inch of his life. Oddly enough, he didn't care. He knew he would be fine, just very bruised and his ego diminished. He told him he was going to teach him a lesson and he was sure he did so perfectly. He was tired of his mouth and had wanted to knock the smart comments out of it for so long. He finally got his opportunity and took full advantage of it. Was it a little much, perhaps, but it got the job done and obliviously, the team did their part as well.
Robin however was fuming. He knew if the press caught wind of this, it would be hell to try and explain what happened without his teammate getting into trouble. Before he knew what was happening, the words came tumbling out and he proceeded to make a very grave mistake.
"Beast Boy, what is wrong with you! You nearly killed him and now I've got to cover for your ass because you lost control. Why do you have to act like such an animal!"
The girls gasped and Cyborg turned to face his leader with a face that was full of disbelief. Beast Boy slowly turned his gaze from Gizmo to Robin and locked eyes with him. His gaze hardened and he clenched his jaw in anger. Robin immediately knew he messed up and his face reflected that. His eyes widened and his mouth opened in a state of shock at what he just said.
The room became cold and the tension was palpable. The only sound was the moaning coming from the villain on the ground, all but forgotten now. The other three Titans were looking back and forth between the two, scared and afraid at what might happen and knowing all to well that if it came to blows, their leader might end up like the boy on the floor.
"What did you say Robin?"
His voice was scarily calm and devoid of any anger. Robin was at a loss of words, mind going too quick to register a competent thought or form a sentence. He looked scared and began to worry about what Beast Boy might do.
"Go on, say it again. I don't think I heard you properly."
He began to walk slowly over to Robin. The Titans' eyes all followed every step he took until he was directly in front of their leader. They could all see he was now towering over Robin and that made him look even scarier. They all held their breath as the two had their gazes locked on each other, Robin's full of worry and Beast Boy's showing nothing.
"Beast Boy, I didn't-"
He cut him off. He heard him the first time, he just wanted to see if he had the guts to say it to him while he was standing face to face.
"Uh uh. Don't back track now. Go ahead,"
He leaned in closer, his face contorting into a sinister smile.
"I dare you to."
Robin knew he was screwed and that Beast Boy wasn't going to let it go until he repeated his words. He glanced down and was looking like a dog with his tail tucked between his legs. He decided to get it over with and take whatever consequences he'd receive from the boy.
"I said-"
He was cut off again.
"No. Look at me."
The tone was animalistic and dark. If it weren't for training under Batman, he would've shat in his pants. It had honestly scared him to his core and he knew that he had passed screwing up, he was in some serious trouble.
The team was now scared that they might not have a leader alive once this confrontation was over. They heard the tone and it frightened them immensely. Their old teammate was officially gone. Never had they heard him talk like that. This Beast Boy was something that they never thought was possible of being their teammate. They were also worried that even if he didn't kill Robin, the consequences would still be severe.
Robin lifted his eyes to meet Beast Boy's. While he saw that his face was still emotionless, his eyes were blazing with a look that went beyond pissed. If he could give it a name, he'd say they became murderous, and he was now praying he'd make it out of the bank alive and his teammate would show mercy.
"I said, why do you have to act like an animal."
He said it quietly and let his gaze drift back to his feet. He was cursing himself in his mind and was just awaiting the punishment he would receive.
Beast Boy however just smiled darkly at him. That did it. That was the one mistake he was looking for and now he was clear to leave. When he got back to the tower, he'd give Rose a call and would be off to the Middle East to join her and Slade.
He heard the faint sound of sirens for the emergency workers and leaned back from Robin. With one last gaze at him, he gave him credit. He had the guts to look him in the eyes and repeat what he had said.
"I thought so."
He turned away from him and walked towards the hole in the wall and made his way past his teammates. They departed and watched him walk calmly past them as he headed towards the exit.
"I didn't mean it Beast Boy, I'm sorry!"
Robin just received a nonchalant wave of the hand as Beast Boy didn't even break his stride as he walked towards the doors. Cops and EMTs flew by the boy as they apprehended the defeated villains. The Titans just watched as their teammate walked out of the building, and unbeknownst to them, out of their lives.
Beast Boy was flying at top speed towards the tower. He knew that the Titans would be held up for a while as they gave their report and he was going to make sure he'd be gone before they got back. Funny thing was, he wasn't even pissed. He was actually happy and glad that he could now leave this team he had started to loathe being apart of.
As he reached the tower, he made his way to land and transformed back into human form. He pulled out his phone as he made his way inside and headed to his room to pack his things. He dialed up an all too familiar number and before the second ring, she picked up.
"Hey darling, what's up?"
He smiled and was actually a bit excited to give her the news. He was sure she'd be happy and would drop what she was doing to come help him out.
"Hey mamas, you're not busy are you?"
Her tone became playful and he could tell her face was turning into a smirk.
"For you, I'd drop anything."
He chuckled and found himself in a full grin. This girl was something special and he found himself falling for her every time he heard her voice.
"Good, because I need you at the tower ASAP."
He heard her shuffle around and could hear her tone perk up in excitement.
"You're ready to come with us?"
"Yep. Robin messed up and I'm back at the tower getting my stuff ready. Let your dad know so you can come help me get out of here."
He heard her yelling to her dad and her teammates that were around her. He heard even more shuffling and people moving around. She finally got back to him and gave him a response.
"We'll be there soon."
He reached his door and put in the code to open it. He walked over to his closet and started pulling out clothes and duffel bags to pack his stuff up.
"How soon?"
He heard a swooshing sound and felt a slight breeze. Before he could turn around, she spoke again.
"Why don't you turn around."
He did so and his face broke into a smile. Rose as well as her father and team had appeared in his room. They both hung up their phones and Rose ran over to give him a hug. He looked over her shoulder and nodded at everyone before Rose pulled back to give him a quick kiss.
"Hey love, I've missed you."
He looked down to her and smiled. It was his turn to give her a quick kiss, not caring her father and brother were watching the whole time.
"I've missed you too sweetheart."
A clearing of someone's throat broke them out of their trances and they turned to Slade. He was looking on in amusement and Beast Boy could see a look of happiness in his eyes.
"This is nice, but we need to get going. How much time do we have Gar?"
"Probably 30-45 minutes. The Titans are still dealing with police and reporters, but we still got quite a bit to move."
Muhammad piped up and decided he'd help out his new teammate.
"Just tell me what needs to go and I'll send it through the portal."
Gar began to tell him what he could begin sending to their headquarters while Rose, Shae, and Rachel began helping him pack. Grant, Slade, Jaime, and Cass began to grab the things that didn't need packed up and sent them through the portal. They were moving quickly, all the while throwing in jokes and telling Gar how excited they were for him to finally join them. As the girls and him were finishing packing up his clothes, Rachel asked him a question that had been on their minds.
"What exactly happened?"
Gar, absorbed in packing up his clothes as quickly as he could before the team got back, gave her the answer that they were looking for.
"Robin called me an animal."
He could hear them all stop what they were doing. He turned to look at them as he finished up filling a duffel bag and was met with looks of shock and anger.
"What?"
He turned to Rose and saw that out of all of them, she was pissed the most. He decided to tell them what happened in a quick and to the point manner.
"I beat the hell out of a villain and Cyborg came over to stop me. Once Robin saw the damage I did he let his mouth fly and proceeded to screw up."
She just shook her head and was about to say something before Shae beat her to it.
"What a dick."
He just shrugged his shoulders and gave her a quick joke.
"Well that is his name, so the shoe fits."
He heard the boys chuckle and gave them a brief smile and nod before turning back towards the fuming girls. Shae and Rachel looked quite angry while Rose looked extremely pissed. Deciding to ease their fury, he pointed out the positive.
"Look, while I agree it was a bad thing to say, let's look at the positive. His screw up let's me join you guys. I told you all, one more from them or the media and I'm gone. It was quicker than expected, but the way I see it, it works out for us."
It seemed to do the job as he saw them deflate quite a bit. Rose still looked angry but he knew that she agreed with him. Muhammad sent the bags through the portal and one by one, they made their way through. Slade, Rose, and Gar were the only ones left before Gar walked over to the door with his Titans communicator in hand.
"I won't be needing this. Might as well leave it here for them to collect."
He tossed it down outside the door, before it closed and he walked over to his girlfriend and Slade. Rose was wearing an excited and happy look while Slade gave him one full of pride.
"I'm happy you're finally with us now Beast Boy. I promise you this team won't treat you like your old one. And if anyone does give you any mistreatment, I'm sure Rose will help them get back in line."
They shook hands and Slade gave him a pat on his shoulder before stepping through the portal. Gar turned to Rose and gave her a warm smile. She returned it before cupping his face before pulling him into a kiss full of fire and love. When they pulled apart, the smile was still present on both of their faces.
"You ready to go?"
He gave her a nod and stepped aside, as if beckoning for her to go first.
"Ladies first my dear."
She gave him a quick peck on the cheek before stepping through. As he went to walk through, he took one last look around. The walls were bare and his closet empty. The only thing left was a bed and a night stand that was now empty.
He helped protect this city for years. For it to end this badly was kind of tragic, but he wasn't too upset. He had a bright future to look forward to and had a girl that seemed to want to have his heart by his side now. If anything, he was moving on to greener pastures.
With one last glance, he stepped through the portal. It closed up just as the Titans arrived back. Unlike Beast Boy, their morale was low and decreasing by the minute. What waited for them when they walked through the doors would surely shatter it all but completely.
