CHAPTER 6: DEPARTURE AND ARRIVAL

A couple days later, it was time for Peppermint Patty and Marcie to return to Sparkyville. They were glad they were able to visit with Charlie Brown and meet some of his new friends. And they were glad that they were nicer than some of the kids back in his old town. Patty had even taken a liking to Abigail, despite her dating Charlie Brown, who Patty had a crush on for years. Charlie Brown and Sally were at the bus stop to see them off.

"Well, I'm glad you two came to visit," said Charlie Brown. "Tell Linus, Schroeder, and Franklin they need to come next time."

"Will do, Chuck," said Patty. She went in and gave him a hug. "It was good to see you. I'll miss you, you sly dog."

"I'll miss you too, Patty," said Charlie Brown. Marcie walked up to them.

"I will miss you too, Charles," she said. "I'm glad you're happier here." And she gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Thanks, Marcie. Hope you two have a safe trip. Come back anytime."

"We will, Chuck!" said Patty, smiling. "See you soon!"

"Have a safe trip," said Sally. And Peppermint Patty and Marcie boarded the bus headed back for Sparkyville. After boarding, the bus left the station and Charlie Brown and Sally headed back home.

On the bus, Marcie asked, "Do you think Charles would ever return back to Sparkyville, sir?"

"I don't know, Marcie," sighed Patty. "If he does, I'm hoping he has an easier time than he did before. Because with the good attention he's received in Kansas City, I don't think he will take any teasing from the kids who gave it to him before."

Ironically, as the bus carrying Patty and Marcie exited Missouri, on the opposite side of the freeway at that same moment, Woodstock had finally reached the state border. He stopped for a rest before continuing on. But he looked up at the sign and he saw it read, "Welcome to Missouri". He started chirping happily. He had finally made it to the state Snoopy was at. After resting up, he made his way towards Kansas City. He would be reunited with his friend soon.
