Sela still had a hard time getting used to the group she was with.
She had never experienced such a diverse bunch before - the differences were striking. From learning how to adapt to a new enviroment, to stealing, to lie, to betray - she didn't know recieving endless kindness out of no where was something she had missed. Whenever she had looked at any of them, she felt the same tugging feeling in her mind. A crown, map, sword and a heart. But she felt that something was indeed missing.
She was though, cautious due to the fact they were pirates. She had faced many in the past, but majority were nutty, crackheads - some thirsted for sex to which she had to teach them a good lesson - kicking them where they felt the heat obviously. Some, she can remember were good. Some that did not rise the bar. She was just that type of girl. Impatient. Entitled. Selfish.
What would Aunt Malia say? How would she react? Sela giggled to herself. Oh, she knew.
Again though, the crew was different.
She had gained Usopp, Nami and the Captain himself, trust after helping around the ship. The only person who had not spoken to her since arriving on the ship was the green haired bastard that had slept every chance he could get. She started to doubt his abilities of being a swordsmen - from the lack of activity seen. She would catch the occasional glances, the side eye and even the avoidance of being in each others way. She noticed that Nami had catched on, speaking with her when she was in the room together, trying to not let, 'Stupid-Zoro's actions affect her. To be honest, she was actually happy. Less people to talk to was her favourite.
They have been at sea for about three days, and she found the exceptional skills of her female companion impressive. It was something she had not expected, since, she was just catching a ride.
Apparently, the pirate crew had just been established a few weeks ago.
Again, the crew was different.
She drank her glass of water, staring down from the top deck. She was seating at a table placed, watching the crew discuss about the ship being a Jolly Rodger. Whatever, she just saw the new pirate insigna. Licking her lips. Since that was going to be seen, people were going to see. She knew that people who did not like her on this ship was going to see. Bringing back the glass of water. She had to find land, fast.
All of a sudden, a canon shot through the air.
She whipped her head to the direction down below, and saw Luffy playing with one of the ships canons. The children. The children. She thought.
"What are you guys doing?" She turned her head to her right, Zoro was leaning against the wooden railing. Well, this was a first.
"Were practicing shooting the canon. But it's harder than I thought it would be. Neh, Salad! Come down and have a try." Luffy called.
"Ah, no thanks Luffy-san! I am alright watching you guys have fun!"
"Awh - well your boring."
"I should show how it's done, here let me show you!" Usopp had pickered. Sela brought her head forward. Interested at what was about to be done. He had hit a rock island, from a great distance in one shot, exploding it to pieces. She clasped her hands together, "Usopp-san is so cool!".
She than let the conversation continue downstairs before she had noticed that now, the lower deck was dirty of gun powder.
She pressed her lips together. She drank her water. She looked again. The boys were now going to the kitchen, even Zoro had left. She drank her water. Looked again. Her hands started to shake. Oh for fuck sakes, you aikae. They can clean their own shit. Your not gonna clean it. She growled.
She looked again. She knew they weren't coming back.
"Nami-san! Where's the cleaning supplies?"
"Ne, ne, ne! When are we going to eat?"
"Can you shut your mouth? I told you! You ate all of our food!"
"But I'm hungryyyy!".
"NOT MY PROBLEM!"
The crew was sitting in the kitchen, resting from the day and also letting their emotions run from the starvation of having no food at all. Luffy, being the pig he was, ate all the food. Zoro sat on his chair, leaning deep in thought while the others bickered. He noticed something.
"Where's the other women?"
"Oh, Sela? She said she was going to do something first. She wanted the cleaning supplies, she must be cleaning again."
Usopp stared through the tiny window on the door, seeing the girl on her knees, scrubbing the wooden deck clean - he cringed and scratched the back of his head. A bit embarrassed, "She sure cleans a lot doesn't she?"
"YAHO! She can be our cleaning lad- OW!"
"She's not your slave you idiot!"
Zoro opened one eye and than closed it, already going back to his sleep until he heard yellling.
"COME OUT YOU PIRATES!"
The others shot up from their spots staring through the small window of the door and saw a man, with sunglasses on holding a sword damaging the barrels. Luffy opened the door, about to respond to the outburst, only to see the lady from behind over grow a deadly aura. The man that had yelled, froze in fear as he gulped. He could feel an unwanted presence behind.
"I..."
She pulled out her fist.
"...had..."
She grabbed the man's head, turning him around. She was another head taller than him. Her height made her seem even more threatening.
"...just cleaned THAT SPOT!"
Sela punched the man in the gut, making hunch over from the impact and gasp for air. The man slithered down to the floor of the ship, quivering in pain and fear as the women glared down at him.
"I was cleaning over here! That's not very nice of you to come on this ship when you weren't even invited!"
The others that saw the whole scene went down, sweated at her anger as she then started to clean the spot from before, whispering obvious remarks.
"She really likes to clean." Luffy said.
Zoro looked down.
"Hey, aren't you Johnny?"
Moments later, after Sela had finally calmed down from her cleaning episode. She had learnt that the man was with his partner, Yosaku - who was badly injured from a job that had recently done. Obviously, from hearing before, Zoro had known them from his journey as a bounty hunter. Since she had to clean the whole bottom deck, she reluctantly helped the Yokasu man onto the ship - only to see that he had been breathing very low. The others had asked what had happened and it all linked to the canon from the beginning.
"Ne, Usopp - You aren't cool anymore."
"You punched that guy in the face too!"
"You nearly costed someone's life!"
Bickering was most likely becoming a habit on this ship.
Sela getting off from the mast she was leaning on, went to take a closer look at the guy. Only to sigh in realisation.
"Ne, ne. Since you boys were playing like children, go get the limes in the kitchen."
The boys ran inside and back, holding a bag full. She opened her palm in her hand, tearing it half and then sqeezing the juice in the man's mouth.
"What - what are you doing?"
Sela stayed silent. Not really caring at the attention until Nami had come up and patted her back.
"He has scurvy...", then she went off in explaining the syptoms. Sela glanced up at her. She was impressed yet again. She looked to her side, staring back at Zoro who had stared back as well with the intensity. She then smiled before focusing on the job in front of her.
"I'm sorry for you hitting you earlier, but your friend will be fine. For now." Sela flicker the spare strands from her forehead, speaking softly as she stared straight into Johnny's eyes, well, what she had hoped was his eyes cause of his shades. She gave her signature, flirty smile before tapping Yokasu's chin with the back of her hand. Johnny blushed. Getting up from her spot, she turned to go to the bathroom before hearing gasps of air. She flinched as she turned around, seeing the very man alive and breathing.
Damn, she thought. These ulavales sure are damn weird. I can't get over the exaggeration of their healing.
"Yay, yay, yay!"
"My buddies all good again!"
"Hurray! Hurray!"
Sela could feel her sweat from the cheers, as if one of them wasn't even on the verge of dying before had not occured to them.
She then felt them stare at her before coming up and taking each of her hands in their own before majesticly going down on one knee.
"Oh, thank you so much. Your beauty is astonding! -"
" - please. Let me take you out on a date before -"
She forced a smile. "Hey - I mean, hey. You were nearly going to die out there. Please. Just rest for now."
Why the hell did this ship had to be the one she had to land on?
From the conversations, to the lack of food that was coming a hazard - the two bounty hunters said they knew where a sea resturant was because of our couragous act of saving their lives. Sela was interested. She had heard this resturant on her jouney from being on local marine and pirate ships where they had served all kinds of customers - and the food was good.
Nami setted onto course with the directions that they gave - it was now night. She was sitting at the edge of her mastress - she knew it was midnight - and there on her lap was the black box she had left untouched from before. She left her purple fedora hat in her woven bag - making a decision on when she would wear it later on, but for now, the box had her full attention. Staring was a habit. Something that she did when she was little, acting as if staring was a way to make something pop out or do it for her without moving an inch. Of course, with the journey she was on, she had learnt that obviously it was wrong, the hard way. Sela could hear Nami's slow breathing behind her. Sitting against the bed, she placed both her palms in top, her heart was beating faster - it had been such a long time to feel, she didn't know... nervous.
She had felt nervous to find out what she had found inside the box. If it was true and real.
It had to be real.
It had to be a clue.
Lifting the lid slowly, there she saw was two objects.
A casette player and a pistol.
Both objects that identified one truth, and one truth alone that defined her existance.
She was, inside another world.
She heard the bed springs, a tuffle of movement and in an instant, the box was back inside it's hiding place. In the woven bag under the bed. She layed down as quietly as she could, letting her eyes rest on the form above her and the form relaxed, letting it go back into it's rhythm. Sela could not feel a wink of sleep in her eyes. No, she did not feel sleep at all. She could feel in her bones, in her heart a passionate feeling of what she had not felt for a long time. Hope
Hope to feel alive. The want to -
Sela rubbed her eyes, grumbling, "Kae".
Making sure that the girl was fast asleep. Getting up from her spot, she went and grabbed the casette player from under the bed and went upstairs to the main deck. Closing the hatch softly. She was wearing an oversized t-shirt, letting it pull around from the faint wind - her bare brown legs lit from the moonlight. She was not cold. She turned towards the mast, going towards it, she put the player inside her bra before climbing the mast with her bare hands and feet. Quickly getting to the top, she dropped to the floor of the mantel, bringing out the player and seeing it more clearly than before. She opened the case, and there it was, a nicely, clean tape.
She pulled it out, checking each side to see if it had a name - to which there was none. She hummed.
She put on the headset, looking at the buttoms and pressed to what she could remember was play. A light tune rummed in. She got up from her seat and leaned against the edge of the mantel, feeling the lyrics slip in.
Hail... Whats the matter with your head?
and your sign? And a, oh, oh, oh baby!
She knew this song. She remembers.
She saw from her view, in the calm mellows of the sea. Figures made out of water popped out and they were dancing. Dancing to their hearts content, with ballads of laughter. Children's laugher.
Come and get your love...Come and get your love.
Most of the figures of the children started to drop into the sea, the song was nearly ending.
Come and get your love... Come and get your love.
And in that still sea, Sela only saw one figure. Alone.
"...Come and get your love."
She felt in the pit of her stomach, a warm feeling. And at the same time she felt her eyes again. She rubbed them clean before pausing the player and turning it off.
Now she was in her bed, under the sheets and blankets. She felt her eyes droop before letting the casette player lay under the bed within the box and pistol. Before she could shut her eyes, she made sure to leave her last thought with a small smile before putting her emotions at the back of her mind.
I think he would have liked this song.
