Chapter 6

Well here I bring the last chapter of this story, thank you all for waiting and for following it.

This story is dedicated to my Beta Denise (Dpdp)

I hope you enjoy.

S: Sir… (she said surprised) what are you doing here?

J: Hi Carter… we need to talk…

Sam stared at him for a moment, something in him had changed, his gaze was different ...

S: Sure sir ... come in.

The woman stepped aside allowing him to enter, then she closed the door and they both headed for the living room.

S: can I offer you something sir? ... coffee, beer?

J: A beer will be fine, thanks.

Sam went to the kitchen, flooded with thoughts, trying to figure out that, towards that man in his house, for weeks I hadn't seen him and hadn't spoken to him

He took two bottles of beer from the refrigerator and returned to the living room, to find that he had removed his jacket, and was sitting comfortably on the couch.

She walked over to him and handed him the bottle, and her gazes met for the first time, but Sam quickly pushed her away.

S: that I owe your visit, sir?

J: You know ...I was just passing by and wanted to know how you were.

S: Sir ...

J: Carter ...

S: Why are you really here sir?

J: this afternoon I stopped by your laboratory ... it's terribly empty there you know?

S: Sorry, but I couldn't stay, not after ...

J: (putting the bottle on the table) Hey… I know, but… you left without saying anything.

S: (looking down at her hands holding the bottle) I'm sorry… I just couldn't.

J: And it was easier to send a statement to the pentagon, wasn't it?

S: Sir… I really don't know what you want me to say.

J: I want you to tell me what is happening with you, I want you to trust me like you used to.

S: I'm sorry… (she said suddenly standing up from the couch in front of him) I can't do this.

She put the bottle on the table next to his and went to the door, to let him know he wanted him to leave , but quickly Jack followed her and took her arm making her turn to look at him.

J: Sam… talk to me…

S: (looking up in amazement at the use of his first name) No… I can't do it.

J: Why? Only we know what it is to lose ...

S: Don't say it! (with tears in her eyes) I can't do this, I… I need to get away.

J: Sam ... I lost her too, I miss her too, I wish I had spent more time with her, got to know her ... but I couldn't, neither of us could, and I understand and feel the same pain. like you ... I just don't want to keep it... having someone to share it with, to remember it with. (approaching her) You can't escape her, please don't.

Sam with tears streaming down his face, raised her head and looked at him.

S: I couldn't help her ... I let her go ... (he said between sobs)

J: (Taking her in her arms) Come here ...

They both embraced and Sam cried inconsolably. For the first time since Grace ceased to exist, they were able to share her pain.

They hugged each other for a long moment, until Sam could calm down.

Jack led her back into the living room and made her sit on the couch and covered her legs with a blanket.

J: I'm going to make tea, or do you prefer coffee?

S: Coffee is fine ...

J: Yes… I don't think these will do us any good at the moment (she said, taking the beer bottles almost untouched)

The woman just smiled.

A moment later Jack reappeared in the living room, carrying two steaming cups of coffee.

He handed one to Sam and sat next to him in the free space his legs had left.

They were silent for a long moment until it was he who spoke.

J: I… I brought you something (taking the framed photo of her out of the inside pocket of the jacket) I found it on your desk, you left it forgotten.

S: (Taking the photograph) I left it so as not to remember it.

J: Do you think she would have wanted it that way?

S: The truth ... I don't know what she wanted.

J: I think inside you if you know… (a deathly silence filled the air) hey… tell me in what situation they took the photograph . (she said pointing to the image)

S: (looking hypnotized at the photograph) Daniel took it ...

J: I could imagine it (making her crooked laugh)

S: I was working on an artifact that SG11 brought from PXC 732… Grace surprised me, in a way that I have only seen one person do it… (their gazes met) anyway… it made me jump, don't listen to her arrive, and he made me throw away the tools and we laughed at it ... Daniel arrived attracted by the laughter, and said that he should portray the moment, so he went for his camera and took the photograph. (he said smiling when he remembered the situation)

J: It is a beautiful photograph ...

S: You can keep it if you want (she said looking directly at him)

J: No… I think you should have it… but I'm still going to want a copy.

S: I miss her ...

J: Me too… she was an amazing girl… smart, beautiful, challenging… just like her mother.

Sam looked at him giving him a slight smile.

S: with a very sharp sense of humor, and a way to achieve even the most difficult things to achieve ... like her father.

J: Sam… we can't forget her… she was our daughter.

S: Was she really?

J: Sure, why do you say that?

S: We don't know if she ever ...

J: If ever what?

S: If she… will exist again. (looking down)

J: Sam… I'm not going to pressure you into anything… I want you to understand that I am here as your friend… but I want you to know that in the future we have a beautiful daughter together… and maybe one day we can see her again. But first we must learn to live with recent events, and see what happens next… one step at a time.

Sam looked at him stunned by what he had just told her, but still unable to speak.

J: Listen ... I'll always be here for you, I promise you, and I promised our daughter ...

S: thanks…

J: Well ... I think it's better that I go... (getting up) I just want to ask you to reconsider your transfer... you know that Nevada is far away, right? (she said smiling at him) imagine… I should ask Thor to install a transport beam from my house to yours.

S: (smiling animatedly) Sure sir ...

J: Ha! And one more thing ... don't tell me sir, you are no longer in my chain of command.

S: Sure Se… Jack. (blushing)

J: I'm leaving ... (leaning down and giving her a sweet kiss on the forehead) you know you can call me at any time.

S: Sure… Thank you.

And with that Jack left ... leaving a sad Sam Carter for remembering the person in the photograph, but with the latent hope of seeing her again in the future ...

The weeks passed and so did the months. Samantha Carter decided not to go to Nevada, but if she resigned from the Air Force, however, the Pentagon granted her discharge on the condition that she take the position as a civilian consultant on the Stargate program. To which she immediately agreed.

Things with O'Neill flowed normally, meeting two to three times a week for dinner night, beer and movies. Sometimes the two of them alone and other times accompanied by their friends.

They spoke of Grace, but not with nostalgia or pain, but with ideas of what she would be like in her childhood, or because she had decided to join the Air Force.

Sam always said it was because she had the same sense of honor as Jack, and he in turn told her because she was determined and went through thick and thin defending what she wanted as Sam.

They always ended up laughing and saying how stubborn each other was.

One night after dinner they had both sat on the couch, this time it had touched Sam's house.

They had ordered pizza and as always they had talked about many things. But tonight the photograph that Jack had brought her almost a year ago caught her attention again and she stared at it with some sadness.

S: Are you okay?

J: Yes… just thinking… sometimes I miss her a lot.

S: Like me ...

J: I love that smile that lights up the world… it equals… (realizing what she had said) I'm sorry… I shouldn't have…

S: It's nothing, okay ... I know she has the same smile ... I love her sense of humor and how stubborn she was ...

Then they both really looked at each other, deep in their eyes, and in their hearts.

J: Sam ... I ... you know I'm not good at these things ...

S: I know… I know you well. (she said getting a little closer to him)

J: Do you really know what you do?

S:of course I know ... I've thought about it for a long time ...

J: I don't want this to sound bad, but… I don't want Grace to be the reason for…

S: It is and it isn't ... he once told me that he had found a way to make it work ... and the other day when we went to the cabin all together, I really knew it was true ... that if he found a way to make it work ... I want that all the time ...

J: Sam… I'm really damaged, you know? (she said between laughs)

S: I know… (laughing) and I also know that you are a safe bet… Jack… long before Grace appeared… when she was stranded in Prometheus… I hadn't told you, really to anyone… you were there…

In fact, Daniel and Teal'c were there too, but that's not the case. (he said everything very quickly and nervously).

J: Sam… (she said with a smile)

S: Yeah ... whatever ... the fact is that you told me that you weren't the one with the problem, that you were a safe bet. Then I understood that I was the one with the problem ... but I wanted to ignore it when starting a relationship with Pete ... anyway, I always knew that it was not what my heart wanted ... and when Grace appeared ... I just didn't want to accept it, and it wasn't until ... we lost her (she said with sadness in her voice) that I really understood that losing her was also losing you ... and at first I really wanted to, but the day you showed up at my door, I knew that I never want to be away from you.

J: Sam ... when I find out about your casualty ... I panicked, that you weren't there, filling my head with your scientific babbling, it was something I really missed, although it seems crazy to say it (he said laughing) but then that afternoon, when I pass by your Empty lab and I saw the photograph, I remembered the promise I made to Grace that night, and I really understood that I could I love you Jack O'Neill.

Jack approached her slowly, without taking his gaze from her eyes, seeking her final acceptance, and then it was Sam who closed the missing distance from her by letting her know what he really wanted.

The kiss was slow and sweet, conveying all the contained love.

In the spring of the following year, a simple wedding was held, the back ceremony and reception were in the garden of Jack's house, now their home.

Jack was standing watching Sam, his wife talking to Cassie.

He suddenly felt a hand resting on his arm.

J: Hi Janet… are you having a good time?

JA: Wonderfully General ...

J: Tell me Jack… we are friends.

JA: Sorry. (looking at Sam) She's beautiful and happy.

J: It's the best thing that has happened to me in a long time Janet, I don't know what she saw in this old and damaged soldier (she said laughing)

JA: He just loves it.

J: I just hope I can make her happy.

JA: You already do sir… sorry, Jack.

Time passed and their relationship was wonderful, natural, full of beautiful moments.

On her first anniversary, Sam prepared a special dinner for her husband. And she also had a great anniversary surprise prepared.

Jack arrived and found his house in darkness, with the table set and candles lit, and there was his wife waiting for him, although a year had passed, it still felt strange to call her his wife, she was overflowing with happiness every time she said those words.

He approached her, and he kissed her deeply, and he told her that he loved her countless times.

After dinner, Sam approached him with a white box, which had large pink and light blue bows.

I gave the box to him and Jack started to open it, there he found a smaller box with the legend on the front that read "for daddy", then he opened it, and he saw inside a very small colored baby clothes, immediately He put the box on the table, and turn to see her with that big smile that lit up the world, her world ...

J: Are you pregnant?

S: Yes… Janet told me a couple of days ago.

He took her in his arms and lifted her into the air and turned her around, and then he kissed her deeply.

J: I can't believe it, I'm going to be a dad again… I love you Sam… thank you…

S: I love you too… happy anniversary my love.

9 months later ...

The labor lasted about eight hours, they were all like caged lions in the corridor of the SGC infirmary.

And that's when Janet announced that she was born.

Cassie, Daniel, Teal'c, Jacob who had been able to come from the tok'ra entered.

The room had a very soft light since it was late at night, and in bed was Sam and next to him Jack holding in his arms the little being that had just been born.

He looked at them and smiled at them with great happiness, his whole family was there.

J: This is Grace O'Neill Carter.

Then he turned to his wife and told her.

J: She is here, thank you for bringing her into our life again… I love you Sam…

S: I love you Jack ...
