Before we start, I'd like to thank "pointy" and "guest" for pointing out mistakes in my previous chapters, which I'll do my best to fix for a better reading experience in the future. Things like not switching the intellect of Rin and Goku without realizing and the spacing of the text. And when it comes to plot, I don't really have a beta reader to help with it. None of my friends have ever watched any Fate series anime or played a game from them before so I'm just winging it a little for now without a second opinion. So thanks for pointing out some things I can adjust for future chapters, It'll really help out! And if anyone can tell me how to get a beta-reader, or even point me in the direction of one, that would be a HUGE help! But with that out of the way, here comes chapter 6!
PS: There won't be a new chapter next as I'll be going on vacation with my family.
"Hehe, no problem Rin."
With that fiasco over, they soon left the place they were in and got ready for today's adventures.
- Chapter 6
Goku is perched on a building not too far from the school grounds. He's observing the layout of the school incase of an emergency and needs to get to Rin as fast as possible. As he was finishing his survey, he noticed something, something he didn't like. It was a magical barrier, and all the students on campus were being affected. "This isn't good. I have to tell Rin immediately. But given how smart she is, she'll probably deduce this in due time anyway." With that, Goku changed into his new casual clothing and started toward the school.
Rin was walking up to the front gates when a familiar voice had called out to her. "Yo, Rin!" She turned around to see her own servant walking past all the students that were walking to school. Each one of them looking at him like they had found the needle in the haystack.
"G-Goku, what are you doing here? I thought you were surveying the area in case of an emergency? And why are you here in the first place?" She noticed all the stares they were getting, even though she was used to it, being with Goku made it more awkward than she had anticipated. "Follow me. We need to talk in private."
Following his masters orders, the two started off for a more open space off the school grounds. "What's so important that you needed to see me right before school started?" "Rin, there's something going on at the school. There's a magical barrier surrounding the campus." "What? I didn't know you could feel mana Goku." "I can't. But the barrier is giving off an incredibly bad energy that I was able to pick up on it. And it didn't seem to be finished. However, it's likely that they're reaching completion too." "Hmm. If that's the case, then there might be another master at school. And if they're acting this boldly, then they're either an experienced mage, or a complete novice. My hope is for the latter of the two. But it doesn't matter, whoever decided to put up this barrier in my territory is getting taken out! Alright Goku, here's the plan. After school, we'll meet up and start investigating the barrier. And after that we can decide how to deal with it. Is that understood?" "Crystal clear Rin. I'll meet you on the roof after everyone has left. "With that, Rin started to walk through the front gates of the campus. After a couple of steps, she sensed the barrier Goku had warned her about. But paying it no mind for now, she decided to continue her day as normal.
As agreed, the master servant duo met up on the roof of the school after everyone else had already left. Even if the moon was out, they couldn't risk anyone seeing them during this mission. And Rin was in the middle of dismantling her seventh rune. "Alright, that should do it. This one seems to have been the trigger for the barrier, so no one should be affected anymore. The strange thing is, I've never heard of or seen these types of runes before." "Hm, at least you've disarmed it though right. What kind of a barrier was this anyway Rin?" "It was a soul eating barrier. It would have killed everyone inside and suck the souls out of their dead bodies. And as for who would need souls, the answer is quite obvious. It's a servant." Upon hearing this, Goku became furious. To think someone like him would ever do such a thing. "Rin. Once we find who did this, allow me to take care of them. I won't forgive them for trying such a thing as soul eating."
"Well, let's at least finish erasing this. Although it won't completely erase it, it'll put a big wrench in their plans."
"Come on, are you really going to erase it? Such a waste of energy."
Goku was getting more and more frustrated, "Cú, don't tell me you're the one who did this?!"
"Of course not. I would never stoop to something so low, that's a mage's job. My kind simply fights when we are told to. Isn't that right, other Lancer?"
"I only have one question for you, Cú. Do you know who put this barrier up around the school? If so, tell us and I'll let you go."
As the two Lancer's were bickering with each other, Rin studied her surroundings. "Fenced in on all four sides. Normally between two lancers, this would be pretty even. But his spear looks like it could do some major damage, even with how strong Goku is. If I remember correctly, Cú Chulainn's spear is cursed. And whoever gets damaged by it is inflicted with a powerful curse that practically ensures its target's death."
"Hm? That's quite impressive missy, already surveying your surroundings. You seem to have the gist of things. It really is too bad that we're enemies. Then I wouldn't have to do this."
"I thought us servants couldn't attack anyone until the last master was found?"
"Sadly, my master and I don't share the same ideals. While I may be fond of you, he sees you as a threat, and has ordered me to get rid of you. And weirdly, only you and not your master. Killing the master would've made more sense in my opinion. Man, this stinks."
"Uh oh. Goku, hurry and take us to the soccer field down below!" "Huh? Oh, right!" As soon as Goku jumped off the side of the building, Cú had appeared where they were standing with his spear lodged into the floor. "Oh? What was your name, Goku? To think I'd be able to fight the legendary Monkey King. This might be better than I thought!"
Goku soon landed in the middle of the soccer field, Lancer landing across from him not long after. "We don't have to do this Cú." Goku says while getting into his fighting stance, power pole in hand. "I'm afraid we do, Goku. My master has given me an order, you should know that we servants can't go against that." Rin was still behind Goku, she was scared to move. Just then, Goku's energy flared up, and he disappeared from their view, only leaving a crater in the ground where he just was. As Cú prepared himself, he got punched right in the gut, sending him flying into the soccer net. After correcting himself, the two started an exchange of blows to one another, [Klang] the sound of metal could be heard throughout the surrounding area. [Klang] [Crash] Giant clouds of dust were forming wherever the two servants came to next. Eventually, the turf had been turned into nothing more than ground up plastic and the dirt itself. But one of them got thrown into the nearest school building, breaking the wall as he entered the building.
"So this is a battle between two servants…"
The one inside the building threw what looked like a cafeteria tray at the dust cloud, hoping to hit the servant inside. "Nice try, but that won't work." The power pole extended out from the cloud and hit the tray right back at the other servant. "Whoever said that was meant to hit you huh?" Goku turned around to see Cú thrust his spear at him. "Crap!" [Klang] [Whish] The power pole had been knocked out of Goku's hands. "Heh, you're mine now!" But in the blink of an eye, Goku had side stepped Cú's attack and gave him a roundhouse to the face. "Who said the power pole was my main weapon!" "Tch, a martial artist huh? Explains how you're able to accurately predict everything I do. I knew Wukong had a martial art named after him, but I never knew he was a master martial artist either." They continued to exchange blows, but Cú found it harder to hit Goku than their previous bout earlier. "You've gotta be kidding me. It's like after he lost his weapon, he's had a weight lifted off him. I can't even hit him anymore. That's it, I'm ending this!" Cú disengaged himself from Goku, but instead of following, Goku stood there watching him. "Prepare to feel the full might of my spear, Goku!" At that, Goku only had one reaction, he smiled at him. "What the? Why the hell is he smiling at me?"
Rin could only watch as she anticipated what was happening. "This is bad… A massive amount of mana is being gathered into his spear. It's clearly his noble phantasm. If he unleashes it here, it'll destroy the school." Just then, a shuffling of feet could be heard off in the distance, catching Cú's attention. "Who's there?!" Just then, a boy could be seen running away from the battlefield. "It can't be, a student was still here? Wait, where did Lancer go?" Rin quickly found the answer to her question. "Quick, Goku! You have to chase him and save that boy! I'll catch up later!" "Right!"
Goku was running through the halls of the school building where he could feel Cú's energy moving at high speeds. "Man, it's been way too long since I've done anything indoors. Usually I fight in an open field or in space, there's no in-between anymore." As Goku continued to run ,he could feel that the boy had stopped moving, "Does he think he got away?" Just then, Cú's energy appeared right behind the boys, and he began to feel the boy's ki diminish rapidly. "Crap!" As Goku rounded the next corner he saw the boy lying on the floor.
Rin soon got to where Goku was standing, she noticed he was staring at something. His fist was clenched, it's clear he was blaming himself for what had happened. And Rin knew what it was without needing to see it. She rounded the corner to see the boy's body laying in the middle of the hallway. "Poor guy, he didn't stand a chance. Goku, I want you to follow Lancer. If we don't at least find out who his master is, all of this will have been for nothing." Goku saw the solemn look on Rin's face, he knew she was having a hard time with the situation too, "You got it, Rin."
Goku opened the window of one of the classrooms and flew out to follow Lancer, and Rin started to walk towards the boy. "Hmm, it appears he was pierced by Lancer's spear. If his heart was hit, there's no way to save him." But she noticed something, the boy was still breathing. Albeit very faintly, this boy was not dead. "I'm sorry. I'll stay here with you until your time comes." She rolled him over to see his face, but instantly recognized who he was. "Why… Why did it have to be you? Why did you have to pick today to stay late here. How am I supposed to look her in the eye tomorrow?" As various thoughts were going through her mind, she realized something. She took out a heart shaped pendant imbued with an incredible amount of mana, "There's still a way."
-back at the Tohsaka manor- Rin was laying down on the couch, when she heard the door to the living room open. "Are you here Rin?" Goku had returned from his mission to follow Cú. "Sorry Rin, I wasn't able to find him. That ability to turn into little particles is annoying to track. And a cautious master doesn't help." "Oh, I see. Well, we shouldn't have expected it to be that easy." "Rin, I noticed that when I was leaving, that boy's ki began to come back. What did you do?" "I used the mana from a pendant that my father gave me when I was a kid. Oh, I forgot it at the school. Oh well, as long as that boy's safe, it doesn't really matter. Wait." "Hm? What is it Rin?" "When Lancer's master learns that the boy they thought was dead is still alive…" "Then he'll… Rin! We have to go now!" "Huh? Oh, Right!"
The two began to go from building to building to where Goku could feel the boy's energy. "Do you really have to carry me like this?" Rin was being carried princess style in Goku's arms. Although it felt a little uncomfortable, for some reason she didn't mind. "Unless you want me to carry you on my back. And besides, once we get there, it'll be easier to put you down." They touched down a little down the road from the boy's home. Rin started running towards the house that Goku had pointed out to have boy's energy signature, but something didn't feel right. "Hmm? Wait, Rin! There's more than one servant there!" "What?" Just then, a girl in armor came straight for Rin. Goku was able to get in front of his master in time, blocking the deadly blow with his power pole, and launching the attacker back. Rin knew who that was, it was the person she had wanted at the beginning. "You're… the Saber class servant…"
