Author's Note: Many of you all are going to stop reading because this is not going to be a Babe story. I feel as though Steph is making strides and she's not meant to be with Ranger in this story. I'm sorry, I know this is going to piss off most of my readers but I can't help it. I hope you continue to stick around and watch Steph grow, but if not, thank you for reading this far. Oh and in case you're wondering.. she will not be with Officer Weasley.

For those of you that will continue reading, thank you. I'm hoping you're enjoying this journey. This won't be a long story, (I don't think so anyway). But I love how Steph is blossoming. You reviewing and following along means the world.. Thank you!

Now I have a question.. if I were to ever write a Harry Potter FanFic, would any of you read it? I don't know when, but this story is in my head and it won't let go. But I will finish this story first.

Again.. these characters are NOT mine.

Sorry this is so short... Enjoy

Chapter Six
It's Been a Year

One Year Anniversary of the Accident:

"Good Morning, Steph." Kelly greeted me as she entered the office.

I smiled. "Good Morning, Kelly!"

As she put her stuff away, she watched me closely. "How are you feeling today?"

I shook my head. "I'm fine. I'm doing good."

Kelly cocked an eyebrow at me. "Are you sure?"

I laughed. "Yes. Between working eight hours here during the day and then four hours every night for night school and then several hours for homework, I don't have time to be anything but good."

Kelly's mouth dropped. "And tired. You have to be tired."

I nodded. "Yes. Extremely exhausted but I'm loving every minute of it."

Between calls and patients coming in, we didn't have much time to talk but that was okay with me. I didn't lie to Kelly, but I was okay. I was happy, but I was also very frustrated. I had been having a lot of dreams lately. Dreams of a dark haired man with obsidian eyes who smelled like heaven. The man looked a lot like the man that night in the bar. So I wasn't sure if I was just imagining the man in my dreams or if he was someone actually real. The feelings I felt when waking up however, were so very real. I felt safe but I felt extreme sadness and hurt every single time. I hated that feeling but even worse, I hate not knowing why I felt like that.

"Oh my gosh, that man is fine as hell." Kelly hissed whispered at me, nudging my arm and hard.

Rubbing my now sore arm, I looked up and almost choked on my tongue. It was the man from the bar. Oh my goodness. He was even hotter in daylight. I pulled at my shirt. Was it hot in here?

I watched as he scanned the open waiting room until his eyes fell upon me. For a minute I thought he would continue his scan but when his eyes found mine, they stopped and honed in. He slowly smiled and I felt that smile to the tips of fingers and toes. He begin his descent towards me and I had the overwhelming urge to run. Not out of fear, but because I had the urge to climb this man like a tree. And I didn't even know him. He reached our desk, and while I was completely speechless, Kelly wasn't.

"Hi Sir. How can I help you today?"

His very intense coal black eyes didn't leave mine. "I'm looking for someone and I traced him to this hospital."

Kelly clicked her tongue. "Unfortunately, we aren't able to disclose any personal information."

He barely nodded, his eyes still on mine. "That's okay. I'll wait until I see him." He then turned his head to look at Kelly. "Thank you." He was curt but polite and his eyes found mine almost immediately, a smile touching his perfectly shaped mouth.

"What's your name, Sweetness?"

I wanted to roll my eyes at the nickname but it sounded so good rolling off his tongue that I didn't care. I wanted to hear him talk some more. He was definitely Latino because of that accent. His hair was a little messy, like he'd been running his fingers through it. And it looked so soft and fluffy. Could hair be fluffy? My eyes wandered down his face to his strong jaw and a tiny dimple in his chin down to his thick neck and his muscular chest and bulging arms. His skin was mocha latte in color and upon that thought another strong jaw with mocha latte skin flickered through my thoughts but the flash was so quick I missed it.

"Sweetness."

That liquid chocolate voice pulled me from thoughts and I looked back up to those coal black eyes. "I'm sorry."

His lips twitched. "Your name. I want your name, please."

I swallowed and nodded. "Steph."

His brows furrowed and he frowned. His eyes flashed with something I couldn't decipher. I wanted to know why my name made him frown. Did he know me? No, he couldn't. He asked my name. Maybe I'm just hoping for anything. George hasn't gotten any hits yet but he did say it could be any day now. Apparently I wasn't patience though because I was tired of waiting.

"What brings you to Jacksonville, Steph?" Coal black eyes drilled into me as he asked and I was immediately on defense. I didn't want to answer that question because I didn't even know.

Kelly must have felt me tense because she interrupted. "Sir, we have patients waiting. If there's nothing we can help you with..." She trailed off but her voice left no room for arguments. His eyes never left mine but he nodded. "I'll be seeing you, Steph."

His comment should have given me the creeps but they didn't. I was excited and I wanted to see him again. He winked at me before walking away and his ass was spectacular too. Damn.

"That right there is a one hell of an Alpha male."

I blinked and looked over at Kelly. "Alpha?"

Kelly just nodded before helping the next person. I watched... damn, I forgot to get his name. Damn it. Ugh. I watched him leave the building and sighed. I wondered when I would see him again.

S-P-S-P-S-P-S-P-S-P-S-P

"Babe."

I looked up and grinned. "I'm okay. I promise."

He tucked a stray curl behind my ear and grinned. "Never a dull moment."

"R-"

I woke up, screaming internally at my alarm clock. I was so close. I could almost see his face and I was almost positive I was going to say his name. Ugh! I flung myself back on my bed and growled. Or groaned. Its still too early to tell. I looked over at my clock, still screaming at me to get up and frowned. Shit! Today was Saturday so I didn't even need to be up this early. I had totally forgotten to turn off my alarm the night before. I'm such an idiot.

I closed my eyes and pictured my dream. I couldn't remember much but I did remember there was police cars and fire trucks behind me as I looked up at this man. I could also remember a fire, a car was on fire. I squeezed my eyes tighter trying to remember more but it was gone. Why oh why could I not remember?

My phone rang on my bedside table and I reached over and picked it up.

"George?" I couldn't keep the excitement out of my voice.

"Steph." His excitement matched mine.

"Do you have news for me?" I asked, hopeful.

He chuckled. "I do. Can we meet for lunch?"

Ugh. "Ugh! Can't you just tell me now?"

"I want to tell you in person."

"Ugh. Okay. Meet you in thirty?"

"Agreed. Where?"

I named a little restaurant not too far from my house and he agreed to meet me there. Thirty minutes later, I was dressed in my favorite pair of blue jeans and a purple t-shirt. I spotted George through the window of the restaurant but I came to a stop when I saw who was with him. It was the same man with the coal black eyes. Why were those together? What was I missing. I stood rooted at the window, looking in and scared to enter. I needed to go in. George could have something on my past and I needed to know. So why couldn't I move?

RangeMan - Three Months Ago

"Why are you just coming to me now?" I had to speak slowly because I needed to stay in control.

Mary Lou swallowed. "I was just hoping..." She shrugged and tears streamed down her cheeks. "I'm sorry."

I grabbed a box of Kleenex and pushed her down into the nearby chair as I gave her the Kleenex. I then leaned against the edge of my desk. "Tell me everything you know." I ordered.

And she did. Over an hour later, she got quiet.

"She bought a van?"

Mary Lou needed. "Yes. A Ford Econoline Van."

Ranger squeezed the bridge of his nose between two fingers. "We didn't find any vehicles registered to Steph."

Mary Lou went to chewing on her lower lip and wringing her hands. "Um.. it's not under her name."

"We checked under each of one of her family members, your name, Lula's, Connie, Vinnie, Mooner. We checked under every one, Mary Lou. Even my own men."

She took a deep breath, peering up at him with apprehension. "Did you check under Alexander Ramos?"

Ranger's eyes actually went wide and his jaw clenched. "No." He bit out. He took his phone from his pocket and texted his core team. He didn't wait but a few minutes before Tank, Lester, and Bobby were entering his office.

"Do you have something?" Lester asked hopefully.

Ranger gave a nod. "Alexander Ramos."

He was met with three very confused faces.
