A/N: Hello! Let me tell you I'm a SLOW writer. Well, I'm not "actually" a writer so I guess I'm excused.
CHAPTER 6 "Confront"
Next morning, Lily walked into the great hall for breakfast. She gazed through the Slytherin table looking for Severus and was shocked to see that there weren't any Slytherins at the table, at all.
"Hey guys!" Lily greeted the Gryffindor boys as she sat next to Remus, "Do you know where all the Slythirins are?"
"Of course YOU would notice" James said annoyed.
"Hopefully the teachers will take a little longer," Sirius grinned. Lily looked at him questionably, "Hypothetically, someone locked the Slytherins in their common room."
"What?" Lily said shocked.
"Did you think that "someone" would let them attack a fellow Gryffindor without consequences?" said James and Lily blushed.
"Well, I guess it is not as bad as getting someone in the hospital wing," Lily said and smiled "Hypothetically. Thanks."
"I think Potter likes you Lily," Meredith said as they walked to Potions after breakfast.
"What makes you think that, Mer?" Mary asked with curiosity.
"Just a feeling" Meredith said "but don't worry, he hasn't realized it yet."
"And you have?" Phyllida asked with skepticism.
"Of course, I have a talent for the affairs of the heart," she smiled. The girls laughed as Meredith bowed theatrically. When they entered their potions class, the room was half empty. Of course, the Slytherins were missing.
"Good morning!" Professor Slughorn greeted and then froze when he saw half his class empty, "Where are the Slytherins?"
"Don't know, Professor," Sirius said with a smile and winked at the rest of the class.
"This is unacceptable…" He said, "Well, I'll have to find out where they are. Class, please read chapter 15. I'll be back in a little bit." But he wasn't, they left for charms and Professor Slughron had not reappeared. The Gryffindor boys were ecstatic that their plan had not only worked, but they had managed to lose a whole class.
Later that day, they overheard that the Slytherins had been freed in time for the second period. Since none of them had eaten breakfast, they were all in a terrible mood.
"I think we were more than successful," James said in their bedroom.
"Yes we were!" Remus said a little excited "I believe they lost about 50 points today, thanks to their empty stomachs."
"And we were completely anonymous!" Sirius said "Although I wouldn't mind a little recognition."
"I don't mind not having detention," Peter said.
"Next time we're going to have to be more careful," James said, "We need a map, a map of the school. We barely know where everything is."
"We also need to know the Prefects patrol schedule," Sirius interjected, "Last night was close."
"Well, that can be our next activity. We should look in the library, there should be some maps," Remus said.
"We should also do our own exploring," James said excitedly.
"I can draw and we can make our own map!" Peter said smiling "It's the only thing I'm good at."
"Don't be so depressing Pete," Sirius said, "Our own map, yes, sounds great. Fantastic idea."
"I'm sure you're good at other things, Peter," Remus said with kindness.
"I'm hungry," Sirius said.
"You're always hungry," Remus pointed out.
"I'm in the middle of a growth sprout! It's my body's fault."
"We should look for the kitchens!" Peter said, surprised by his own ideas "For the map, I mean."
"Yeah and the food Pete!" Sirius was overjoyed with the idea.
"Excellent!" James said "We've got ourselves tonights quest,"
All the Slytherins were already out and about, but Lily only found Severus right before supper. As they were heading towards the great hall she spotted him walking alone looking gloomy.
"Hi Sev!"
"Hey Lily," he said and continued to walk.
"What happened today?" she asked.
"Someone sealed our common room from the outside" he sighed, "We couldn't get out," Lily fought a smile.
"We'll, I think it wasn't that bad. I could have been worse," Lily tried to comfort him.
"It was bad!" Severus stopped and looked at Lily, "Everyone was crazy, yelling and fighting. And we were all hungry!"
"Yes but nobody ended up hurt or in the hospital wing, Severus!" Lily said, letting out a little bit of anger.
"Well… Yeah… I guess so."
"Sev, can we be friends again?" Lily said "Like before all of this?"
"Of course, Lily!" his black eyes pierced her green ones, "I'm just figuring out some stuff, house stuff."
"Yes, I know. They don't like people like me, but you shouldn't let these things interfere," she said and gave him a hug. Severus smiled.
"It's not all the Slytherins."
"But most of them, am I right?"
"Mabey,"
"How about you?"
"Me? You're really asking me this?" he said, looking straight at her.
"You're not answering," Lily crossed her arms.
"Of course not, Lily. You know this."
"Yes, but you've never mentioned it before,"
"Because it didn't matter!"
"And it does now?"
"No…"
"You don't sound convinced,"
"Well, things here are different,"
"Different how? Me being a mudblood changes our friendship?"
"Don't say that! It doesn't change a thing. I promise!"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am," he said and placed his hands on her shoulder.
Lily really liked the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher. Spencer Walker was also a muggleborn, so having class with the Slytherins was a little tense in Lily's opinion. She was tall and scrawny, but the amount of scars she had gave her a fierce look. To Lily's delight, she had decided to start teaching them defense spells. She had made it clear that dark days were coming and that it was important to master basic defense spells. They were simple spells, but needed a lot of practice since the stronger the attack was, the stronger the defense spell had to be.
"This is stupid," Rosier said, a Slytherin first year, "Three clases for the same spell?"
They were left to practice the Protego Spell as Profesor Walker was called to help lift a Spongify spell that had been placed on an entire hallway the night before.
"Why are you complaining?" Severus asked, "You haven even produced one yet."
"Still it's stupid," Rosier said, "We need to learn dark magic to be able to defend ourself."
"You're thick, Rosier," Severus said arrogantly. Rosier clenched his fists. Turned around and spotted Lily. Sev saw him point his wand at her. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Incendio," Rosier said instantly. Lily's robes burst into flames, Severus went pale. Screams and chaos followed.
"Aguamenti" James poured water out of the tip of his wand and soaked Lily. The fire died out having burnt almost half her robes, leaving the bottom half of her legs bare. "Nice legs, Evans."
"You IDIOT, Potter!" Lily walked towards James and shoved him.
"Hey! I just saved you!" he said with his arms stretched out.
"Lily!" it was Severus, "Are you ok?"
"Yes, but I think my legs are a little burnt," Lily answered with a little pain in her voice, she reached down to check her legs.
"Back off, filthy cockroach," James put himself between Lily and Sev.
"WHAT?" Lily yelled and lifted her head. Severus's eyes flashed with darkness.
"Everyone knows it's all his fault!" James said to Lily in a lowered voice, "You're just too stuped to see it."
"No, it's not!" Lily turned pink with anger. She felt her heart shrink with shame and hurt.
"Back off, you Gryffindor arse!" Severus pointed his wand at James.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about, Snape," James continued to speak in a calm voice and directed his wand towards his opponent.
"Shut it, arrogant prick!" tension was building up, the whole class had made a circle around them in silence. Rosier was the only one who broke the silence with his constant sniggering.
"EXPELLIARMUS"
"PROTEGO"
"DEPULSO"
The three spells were yelled at the same exact moment. James' disarming spell was blocked by Lily's shield spell. Severus spell was the only one to hit his mark. James flew back and slammed into the chalkboard on the other side of the classroom.
"What on earth is going on here?" The classroom door had opened and Professor Walker entered, "Misbehavior will not be tolerated in my classroom. You two, detention. Also a 20 inch essay on the Protego spell, which you will share with your classmates next week. Class dismissed."
Lily was shocked. Severus had been slightly pushed back by her spell and was missed by Professor Walker because he was mixed with the other students. So what he had seen was a fight between only Lily and James.
"You two. Detention will be held this Friday at 5," The Professor handed them their detention slip.
Lily stormed out of the classroom, Lily didn't want to see Potter ever again.
"Evans!" James called her from behind "Evans, wait! Can we talk?"
"No, we can not," Lily answered without looking back.
"I would like to explain, so you can understand."
"No Potter, you don't understand," she stopped and turned around, "Severus is my friend. He has always been, for years. You are not my friend. So back off and leave me alone. You've done enough."
"Fine, next time I won't bother. Don't forget that I tried to warn you!"
In Lily's heart a seed of resentment was planted and decided she could never forgive him for humiliating her in front of everyone and being responsible for her first (and hopefully last) detention.
Lily dreaded the upcoming Friday. She didn't know what to expect from her first detention and to top it off she had to spend it with her new enemy (as she had decided he was). The week passed rather faster than she would have liked. That was until she decided she wanted to get it over with when time decided to go slow and take forever. Meredith tried to calm her down by talking about it, but it didn't help.
"Oh come on, Lily. It's not the end of the world," she said, "you'll sit and write lines for an hour and that's it."
"I think you both are making it a bigger deal than it is," said Mary.
"I'm never ever forgiving Potter for this,'' Lily said fiercely. In her head she could hear the echo of Potter saying 'You're just to stuped'. Lily's heart beat faster and she clenched her fists at the memorie.
It was finally Friday and classes took forever. Lily almost died of embarrassment when Professor Walker reminded them of that evening's detention. She wanted to hit Potter in the face when she saw him so relaxed about the whole thing.
After herbology with the Hufflepuffs, Lily and James headed towards the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. Lily had decided to completely ignore Potter, as if he didn't exist.
"So, we're off to our first date then…" James said mischievously. Lily almost answered with all the hate she could muster, but thankfully remembered her plan and kept on walking with her arms crossed.
"No answer? Fine, a silent date then," he said and tried to put an arm around Lily's shoulders. Lily pulled away as fast as she could and was able to avoid any contact. James smiled, he was enjoying this a little too much.
They walked in silence for a little while until James started to hum happily. It was getting obnoxiously and hard to keep ignoring, so much so, that Lily was relieved when they finally arrived at their detention.
"Good afternoon," Professor Walker greeted. "You'll complete your detention from 5-7:30."
"An hour and a half?" Lily was mortified.
"Yes, Miss Evans" she paused. "What I would like you to do is the Protego essay you'll present in class next friday, together. I brought some books for you to use, so get to it."
Lily stared at the books, she would have prefered lines. She wouldn't be able to ignore this arsehole. She took a deep breath letting the air out slowly and picked up the closest book. Having Profesor Walker right in front of them disabled James, so they actually worked on the essay. Lily would scan the books and James was incharge of writing. To Lily's surprise, they were finished by the hour. They spent the rest of their time organizing the presentation.
"You too make a good team," Professor Walker said as she received the written essay. "Keep your differences aside, and you'll do great things. No more fighting in my classroom and least of all use magic against each other. Next time it won't be just detention. Now you can go, see you in class."
"Evans," James said as he closed the classroom door.
"No, Potter. Don't bother," Lily said fiercely as she turned around and left him behind. Her fear of wandering alone was smaller than her hate towards Potter.
James saw her red curly hair bounce off her back as she walked quickly away. He couldn't help but feel a little angry, how could she be so thick headed. He had only tried to help. And Snape was a Slytherin protege, trouble just waiting to happen. James slammed the Gryffindor bedroom door when he entered. His fellow roommates looked up at him.
"Woooow! What did the poor door do to you?" Sirius said as he walked up to the door and pet it. Peter giggled.
"I need a good prank," James said as he sat next to Remus, "If someone cries, the better."
"Say no more!" Sirius said and placed his arm over his shoulders, "Pete, show him."
"Look what arrived today by owl," Peter said with a grin. He opened a bag full of DungBombs.
A/N: Looooooove the fighting. Hope you too!
