(Thank you all so so much for your reviews, favorites and follows. I appreciate you all very much! Sorry it took so long for Chapter 6 but with the lockdown over and work staring, it's been crazy.)
"Okay, I have one." Nick grinned and lowered his beer bottle on the table. "And it's a good one, I swear."
Olivia approached the table at that moment. Four sets of eyes turned to look at her, all four occupants plastered tipsy smiles. She took a seat between Amanda and Fin and eyed Nick curiously. "What are you, gossip girls, talking about?"
"We are sharing cheesy pick up lines." Fin explained before turning back to Nick. Olivia, though, stole a glance at the blonde wondering if they were okay after that argument three days ago. She seemed quite relaxed and definitely not bothered by her presence, so Olivia managed to relax a little bit. She ordered a glass of red and got comfortable to listen to their shenanigans.
"I was still an officer then and I was on patrol. I swear I was not stalking her or anything. I had stopped out of a bodega and waited for my partner to get us some coffee. While I was waiting, I saw her walking out with a small smile and let me tell you, that was the moment I started believing in love at first sight.
"Anyway, she got into her car and drove off. I followed her, leaving my partner behind. Until this day, he still throws it in my face every time I see him." He laughed aloud.
"I can't blame him. I would have thrown the coffee over your head if I was in his position." Amanda teased, downing her beer.
"Yes, Saint Rollins. As if you haven't ditched anyone for a pair of beautiful eyes." Nick huffed.
Amanda gave him a shove, laughing. "Not while I was working, jackass."
"Whatever. Let me finish my story." He rolled his eyes, smiling. "Anyway, I flicked the siren on and I pulled her over. She was looking at me so serious and worried, I almost felt bad for stopping her. She asked if there was a problem."
"And what did you say?" Olivia asked quite intrigued.
"Yes. I seem to have lost my phone number. Can I have yours?"
The entire table stared at him as if he was the stupidest person in the room. "And she didn't run you over?" Fin inquired sarcastically, causing the entire table to erupt in laughter.
"No, mate. She married me." The laughing ceased instantly. "What? She thought it was cute."
Amanda shook her head, laughing. "Poor woman. She should have known."
"At least his pick up line worked. Mine almost got me a drink in the face." Fin confessed, turning everyone's attention to him; all of them waiting for him to continue, when he didn't, they started talking all together. "Alright, alright. God! You are, all, too nosey for your own good." He sipped some beer to clear his throat. "There's not much to tell anyway. I was at a bar quite drunk when my pal nudged me and nodded towards the direction of this beautiful woman who was laughing and drinking with her friends. Keep in mind, I was barely 22 and I was drunk. I walked over and told her word for word 'I may not be a genie, but I can make your dreams come true.'" Olivia and Amanda winched at the line. It was bad, so bad. Fin, who didn't fail to see it, nodded. "Exactly. She told me that her dream was for me to disappear before she wasted her drink on me. I don't blame her but, boy, did I take it personally." Fin chuckled and the rest followed suit.
When the table fell silent and none of the other three offered to share their "worst" experiences, Nick took matters into his own hands. "You seem very eager to make fun of us, Rollins. What about you?" That immediately drew Olivia's attention towards the blonde who was smirking with mischief behind her glass.
"First of all, Amaro, I don't use cheesy pick up lines because I don't need them." She leaned back to her chair and crossed her arms across her chest. "But I did answer to one back in Atlanta once." She didn't know if she wanted to go into details with Olivia sitting right next to her but she did want to see how she would react. "From what she told me, it was a dare her friends put her up to. What she didn't expect was to spend two whole nights in my bed afterwards." The superiority on her face said everything and while the men answered with a 'Smooth' or 'Good job, Rollins', Olivia stayed silent and stared at her wine glass, fidgeting a bit in her seat.
"She approached me and said 'Hello, I'm a thief, and I am here to steal your heart.' She was so shocked when I pulled out my badge and told her that she was under arrest." Amanda wiggled her eyebrows playfully. "We shared a laugh and started talking for the rest of the night. You already know the rest." She grinned and glanced to her side, trying to read Olivia's expression but, of course, the brunette was hiding it too well.
When Munch turned towards the brunette and asked her about her experience, she simply shrugged and downed the rest of her glass. "I don't kiss and tell, Munch." She winked and stood up. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to drive home. I am testifying in the morning and as much as I love the company, my bed is calling my name. Do any of you drunks need a lift home?" she asked, slipping into her jacket. "Nah, we are gonna stay for a while. We'll share a cab home afterwards." Fin informed her but Amanda spoke up. "I do, if you don't mind."
"Sure. Come on." Olivia smiled hesitantly and waited for her to get ready. They bid the others goodnight and walked outside together. "Got tired of these man-children?" the brunette teased as they got into the car.
Amanda chuckled but shook her head. "I have to get Frannie and if I drink one more beer, I know that it won't happen."
Olivia felt her stomach tighten at the female name. She wasn't jealous of another woman taking up Amanda's time, was she? No, she wasn't. Except everything in her body told her that she was. From the way her hands gripped tightly on the stirring wheel to the way her heart fell to the pit of her stomach, it was pretty obvious that she was envying this Frannie.
"Frannie?" Olivia couldn't help but ask. Curiosity was eating her up alive. If Amanda noticed, she certainly didn't say it.
"Oh right. You don't know about her." Amanda smiled softly and pulled her phone out. "She is my dog. I adopted her a week or two after I started the job. I just thought that it would be nice to have someone to go home to." She turned the phone towards Olivia, who in turn glanced for a second at the photo and returned her eyes back to the road. "It's less lonely, you know." The blonde muttered. It was barely audible but Olivia heard it nonetheless.
"This job usually is." Olivia nodded but visibly relaxed when she contemplated Amanda's words and realized that Frannie was actually a dog. "It is not easy."
"But we make do." Amanda added with a nod. She knew that very well.
They stayed silent for a few minutes, both lost in thought. Olivia was thinking of their latest argument and was contemplating on saying something about it. She didn't like the way they left things but most of all she hated the way her jealousy had affected her. Amanda, on the other hand, realized that she had overreacted and snapped so angrily at Olivia when the brunette was only trying to protect her. Maybe she was so worked up because of the case and she took it out on Olivia because she was the easiest target at the time. But she had to make it right.
"Olivia-"
"Amanda-"
They said in unison and shared small smiles.
"Sorry. Go ahead." Amanda nodded.
"Right." Olivia took a deep breath, gathering her strength. "I want to apologize for the other day. I was completely out of line. The things I said, they were out of character and completely not my business. I am sorry." She said with a final exhale, feeling quite relieved that she managed to get it off her chest.
Suddenly she felt a hand on her arm but she avoided looking at the owner of said hand or the hand itself. "It's okay, Olivia. It's possible that I've overreacted a bit. I was really frustrated with the case and I think I took it out on you. I am sorry for what I said about you. I didn't mean it. I know how it was with Elliot and I had definitely no business bringing it up." Amanda squeezed her arm a bit in comfort and it took all of Olivia's self control not to drive them off the road. She held her breath until Amanda removed that warm hand and she managed to offer her a smile.
"Apology accepted." She smiled hesitantly.
"Likewise." Amanda mirrored her smile and turned her gaze back on the road.
After a few minutes of silence and the assurance that they were okay, Olivia felt the urge to start a conversation even though she knew that they were only a few blocks away from Amanda's apartment. "She is cute by the way." She pointed out, smiling. "Frannie, I mean." She wasn't all that fond of animals if she was being honest but she had seen the excitement of the blonde when she spoke about her dog and she couldn't help but want to see it again.
Amanda nodded at Olivia's words and smiled. "She really is and she is very smart too. She is so well trained but the woman at the shelter told me that her owner died in a car crash and his sister couldn't keep her because she was allergic." The blonde smiled sadly. "I knew I had to take her the moment I laid eyes on her. I didn't think twice."
"She sounds really special, Amanda, and you seem really happy to have her. I am sure you will give her the loving house she deserves." Olivia offered confidently.
"Thanks." She nodded with a cute smile. "Also it's nice having someone to jog with; especially when it's dark outside."
That gave Olivia pause. "Wait. You don't mean that you are planning to go out now?"
"Well yeah. I didn't have time to go for a jog this morning so I'll do it now. I barely had time to take her for a walk during lunch time." Amanda shrugged as if it was not a big deal; which it wasn't for the blonde, since she had grown accustomed to it, but Olivia was really worried about her. "Oh relax, Detective. I am always careful and I keep my eyes open." To say that Olivia was not assured at all would be an understatement and Amanda didn't fail to notice it. "You don't need to worry, Olivia."
"Oh thanks for telling me. Now I am not worried at all." Olivia rolled her eyes, her words dripped with sarcasm but all Amanda could do was laugh. "With our job I thought you'd be more cautious." She muttered.
"I am. You don't have to worry. I can't lock myself in because of the crazies that walk out there. I can protect myself." Amanda responded rationally which only made Olivia sigh. They were both too stubborn and neither seemed ready to back out.
"I'll drop it if you promise to send me a text when you are home safe." Olivia insisted with a winning smile as she parked to the side in front of Amanda's apartment.
"You are being ridiculous now." Amanda huffed and made to open the door, only to hear the locks click shut.
"I am not joking. Promise me or I won't let you out." Olivia turned to look at her stubbornly and mirrored Amanda's glare. "And if I don't get a text back, I will send the entire NYPD department after you. That's a warning."
Amanda scoffed at the threat but she knew that Olivia meant it all. She wasn't getting out of the car without a promise so she did the only thing she could. "Fine. I promise I will text you as soon as I am home safe. Happy?"
"Very much so." Olivia smiled satisfied and unlocked the car. "Good night, Rollins."
"Insufferable woman." Amanda muttered as she got out.
"I heard that."
"That was my intention." The blonde furrowed her brows which actually intensified her glare. Olivia just laughed at that. "Night, Benson." She slammed the door shut and turned towards her apartment. The moment the front door was closed and she was hidden from view, she felt a smile stretch against her lips. Having someone care for your wellbeing was the warmest feeling after all; especially if that someone was the woman you were in love with.
