Chapter 6

Colonel George Hammond led Daniel, Janet and Teal'c to a meet with Wilton Knight in an effort to find housing for the team. He could not assign them base housing and could not keep them in his own home for long. He hoped the millionaire would be willing to provide SG-1 and Dr. Frasier with a facility to live and work out of.

Wilton Knight sat at his table in the private country club. He wore a yellow polo shirt and checkered pants as he waited for his lunch. He sported short brown hair that was graying slightly. He appeared to be in his sixties and was clean shaven. He glanced up from his newspaper as Devon Miles approached with Colonel Hammond and his friends in tow. He wondered what was so urgent that Devon not only brought the Colonel to the country club but an entourage with him as well. He placed his paper down and waited for bad news.

Devon stated as he got to the table, "Mr. Knight. I request an emergency meeting."

He gave a nod rather annoyed, "Have a seat, Mr. Miles." He looked to George who was in civilian clothing. He knew he was a full bird colonel. "Colonel Hammond." he greeted. "What is honor of your visit today." He glanced at the three extra characters that accompanied the man.

Hammond took his seat along with Daniel, Janet and Teal'c. All sported civilian clothing and Teal'c wore a baseball cap to cover the emblem and protect his bald head from the sun. "Mr. Knight," he started. "I would like to thank you for seeing us on such short notice."

He replied, "You have my attention, Colonel."

George started, "I need a facility to use as housing and a working base of operations. It has to be clandestine. It needs to house a team of five."

"What's the purpose?" he asked directly.

"That information is classified." he simply replied.

Wilton was wealthy and powerful. He didn't like being asked to do something for the government and then not be told why. He countered, "If you want my assistance, Colonel then you will tell me why I should provide such a building."

George stated, "There is enemy combatant lose in the US, armed with some kind of device that we do not understand fully and we need to find him and retrieve the device."

Milton wasn't buying the story. He countered, "You can easily find and capture this subject on your own. Why do you need my help, Colonel? You have the entire military at your disposal and the backing of the U.S. tax payer."

Daniel spoke up, "Because the enemy combatant is not from this planet."

The assertion peaked Wilton's interest. He looked to the man, "And you are?"

"I'm Dr. Daniel Jackson." he introduced himself. "The subject we are after is alien in nature. They are called the Goa'uld. They are a symbiotic race who needs a host to survive. This Goa'uld is named Ba'al and he has a god complex. The device is also alien in nature. He has possession of it and has been on Earth for three years. Our mission is to find Ba'al, neutralize him and retrieve the device."

The old man smiled, "Now this is getting interesting. How did we make first contact? When did we make contact? How long have aliens been here?" He looked to George.

Hammond confessed, "I don't know yet. Dr. Jackson can tell you."

Daniel went with a basic briefing. "In 1928 an artifact was found on a archeological dig in Egypt by a man named Professor Paul Langford. The artifact is called a Star Gate. It's currently in a government warehouse. Through the Star Gate we make contact. We meet many races, some are friends and some are not so friendly. Contact will not be made for another ten years. The Star Gate program will not start for another year after that in which case General Hammond will be in charge. The device that is on Earth came by ship. It has the ability to wrap space and create a wave, in theory is could be an engine. It was employed in something called hyperspace which created a wave that ripped space-time fabric and sent my team and myself back in time. We were onboard a ship as well. We got caught up in the wave and followed Ba'al here. We cannot go to the military. We don't have that kind of support yet. We are asking you for help. We can't live with George for rest of our lives. It's getting a bit crowded." he explained.

Devon sat beside himself as the information was divulged. It was more than he expected to hear. He had to keep his wits about him however. He stated, "You traveled through time."

He gave a hard nod, "Yes! It's not the first time. It's happened before. Kind of happens more than it should…" he winced.

Wilton sat eager to hear. He requested, "Tell me."

Daniel looked to George Hammond.

The Colonel reported, "In 1969, I was a young lieutenant. I was guarding the warehouse that housed the Gate. SG-1 came through and when I was securing their belongings I found a note that I wrote to myself telling me to help them. I assisted in their escape and they managed to return home. A few days ago they showed up on my doorstep, in full battle gear asking for me to help them again. This time there is an alien combatant running free on Earth, who has a three year head start and has alien technology with him. The Gate is still in storage. They do have a little more help this time. There is an alien ship hidden in orbit that is assisting them. They are called the Asgard and the being on that ship is named Thor. From what I gathered, we believe aliens were on Earth in the ancient past and many folklore came from that contact. Now do you understand the nature of what we are dealing with? A hostile alien, loose on Earth, in the past and with alien technology at his disposal."

Wilton asked, "Can I see this ship and meet this Thor?"

Daniel stated, "That is up to Thor. It's his ship. General Hammond…" he caught himself, "I mean Colonel Hammond…"

George smiled, "I like General."

Frustrated he continued, "George is helping by bringing in assistance from a couple of clandestine programs you guys got going. Your Knight Rider program and another program called Airwolf."

"Archangel?" he soured.

Daniel asked, "You know him."

"Of course." he rolled his eyes. "The Firm! C.I.A. front."

"And Knight Industries is what?" Janet asked with a smirk.

He insisted, "Pentagon, Missy. And who are you anyways?"

"I'm Doctor Janet Frasier." she stated. "I'm the Chief Medical Officer for Star Gate Command. I was off world assisting SG-1 when all this went down."

Wilton asked, "Star Gate Command! That's the program you get going in the future. It's military?"

She nodded, "Pentagon runs it."

He glanced at Devon and then sat back and asked, "What warehouse has this Star Gate?"

Alarmed Daniel asked, "Why?"

He admitted, "We need to get it out of storage and start this program."

Devon's mouth dropped in shock.

Daniel gasped, "You can't! It will alter the timeline. You don't know what is out there. You start it up and it will be a disaster."

He smirked amused, "That's what we have you here for. You are intel. You know what's out there."

"We have a direct threat here, right now on Earth." Daniel told him. "I think we need to deal with that first."

"You just said this Ba'al was from the future. If it were me, I would be using the situation to my advantage and altering the timeline." Wilton countered. "We have to counter his moves."

"We have to find him and neutralize him." Daniel stated.

He smiled, "Oh' well will. Tell me Dr. Jackson. How do you know if you haven't altered the timeline already?" One thing was certain, Wilton Knight was a shrewd man and saw opportunity.

"We don't." he admitted. "Before we just stayed out of history's way but this time…we have a Ba'al issue."

Wilton smirked, "Seems we have a global security issue." He looked to Devon, "Get them situated with whatever they need. Bring Michael and KITT into the loop." He looked to Colonel Hammond, "I want to see this Star Gate."

Daniel traded glances with Teal'c and Janet. He shook his head fearing they would significantly alter the timeline and perhaps never get back home.

Next Day

Wilton Knight donated an old warehouse for the mission at hand. It was equipped with old offices and a slush fund was established to install housing for SG-1 and Janet along with a in-house medical facility. The millionaire gave them everything they needed and more. He placed Devon Miles as oversight of the entire operation and requested Archangel come along with the Airwolf crew for a meeting. Jack had briefed Thor who agreed to beam himself down into the warehouse for a meeting in the near future. Needless to say things were set to be an interesting day.

Jack decided to bring donuts and a coffee maker. He figured he better offer some kind of bribe to the men and women who were about to have their known view of the galaxy turned upside down. He placed the boxes of donuts on a far table in the warehouse and started the coffee maker. He then placed out some paper plates, cups, powered cream and sugar. He focused on the table stetting to ensure it was complete.

Daniel walked up behind him looking for a cup of coffee and a donut. He noticed Jack was being very detailed in the setting. "It looks fine, Jack." he told him. "Why you so worried about what the break table looks like?" He grabbed a powdered jelly donut and a cup of coffee.

Jack explained, "Comfort food. Hawke and Long are about to have their whole world flipped on its head. I thought maybe…"

"Bribe?" Daniel suggested.

He nodded, "Soothing, fatting, sugar laced…deep fried comfort food."

He admitted, "Nothing like donuts and coffee before a briefing."

"Yup," Jack agreed.

Michael Knight drove KITT right into the warehouse though a open garage door. He emerged looking for Devon who informed him of the meeting and requested he come with KITT. He didn't see Devon but he did see SG-1 and Dr. Frasier at the far corner of the large space. He soon emerged from the car and approached the table glancing about the empty space around them. It was certainly big enough for more equipment to be housed. "Morning Colonel O'Neill. No Devon yet?" His blue eyes then landed on the array of donuts before him as the smell of fresh brewed coffee filled the air. It took him back to his days on patrol. "Hmm…" he gleamed at the sweets. "Donuts and coffee…" he gathered himself a big donut and a cup of coffee.

Jack asked, "Do cops really eat nothing but donuts and coffee?"

He paused with a mouth full of food. He swallowed, "You know I used to be a cop?"

"I do, Long." he stated.

"It's Michael Knight now." he replied wondering how Jack knew his real name.

Jack gave a nod, "I just wanted to make sure it was okay with you. I know about the face thing. Wilton Knight is funding all this. Daniel met him yesterday. Real hard ass too."

"That he is." he agreed. "But he also gave me a second chance."

Jack told him, "I'm giving a third."

Devon walked into the warehouse with Bonnie at his side. They both gravitated towards Michael Knight and the donut topped table.

Bonnie noticed, "That's a lot of donuts."

Michael teased, "You can never have too many donuts."

Daniel agreed, "Could be worse."

"Oh," Michael looked at him wondering what he meant.

He explained, "Could be table full of MRE's." He shivered at the thought.

Jack rolled his eyes, "The macaroni and cheese does not taste like chicken, Daniel. Your taste buds are off."

He smirked, "What does it taste like to you, Jack? Because that does not taste like macaroni and cheese."

He admitted, "Cardboard."

Michael laughed and recalled, "I had rations in Nam. Those things were awful."

Daniel stated, "Not any better." He then finished his donut and was about to take another when he heard Janet's voice from behind.

"Put that back mister." she instructed. "You had a full breakfast and a huge donut." She came to the table and went directly for the coffee. She told Jack, "You didn't have to bring this many boxes of donuts, Colonel."

He reminded her, "And you said to not let you have more than one cup of coffee and that is number four." He held up four fingers to emphasis the count.

She squinted at him as he reminded her of her self imposed limit.

Daniel then grabbed a donut, "Donut number two." he smirked and took a bit.

Bonnie noticed Michael also grabbed another donut. "You know those are bad for you, Michael."

He nodded, "Oh' yeah." He excused, "It's a cop thing."

Jack stated, "Who doesn't like donuts? Gotta be nuts to not like donuts." He then watched as Teal'c approached. He didn't wear a hat and his bald head was visible for all to see along with the emblem. He smiled brightly at the donut buffet before him. He then grabbed a plate and loaded it with many donuts. He called, "You like donuts, right T?"

"Indeed," the Jaffa smiled brightly.

"See," he made his point.

Michael noticed the emblem along with Devon and Bonnie. He asked, "What's that thing on his head?"

Teal'c replied, "Is is an sign of an enslavement to a false god."

He stood a bit baffled. "Was that burned into your skin?"

"Hot molted metal was applied." he confirmed.

"Was that painful?" he wondered.

"Excruciating." he informed.

Devon wondered, "Is Teal'c from…" he motioned towards the ceiling as he realized the man before him could be from another planet.

"I am Jaffa." he told him and walked away.

Devon looked to Daniel for an explanation.

He informed, "You just met your first alien of the day, Devon."

He took a deep breath and gathered himself.

Michael and Bonnie paused. With his mouth half full Michael asked, "What?"

Jack stated, "I find myself asking that same question a lot."
