Author's Note: To the guest who mentioned "The Bad Seed": Haha, I actually imagined Mckenna Grace as in the role of Mary while writing my "Girl Meets World (Season 5)" story, so it's funny that you mentioned another one of her roles (for those who don't know, Mckenna Grace is the lead in "The Bad Seed").
At the station, Amanda and Kat were assigned to the interrogation.
"So, Mary, I can tell you don't like Ava Morgenstern very much. Can you tell us why?"
Mary shrugged. "She's a Loser. She thinks she's so great just because Auggie loves her. He is the most popular boy in school. I don't know what he sees in that tramp anyway. I'm so much prettier than she is. I'm way smarter, too."
"So you went along with this because Auggie Matthews wouldn't go out with you?" Amanda asked, incredulously.
Mary suddenly realized that trashing Ava and blaming Auggie was not going to work. She immediately chose a new tactic. Squeezing her eyes shut tight to cause tears she began to sob.
"M-my brother. He threatened m-me. Told me if I didn't go along with this he'd hurt me real bad. It was all HIS idea. He wanted to get back at A-auggie for hitting him with the r-rock."
"Why did Auggie hit your brother with the rock?" Kat asked.
Realizing she had said more than she intended, Mary's eyes grew stone cold and she stated emotionlessly, "I refuse to say another word until my lawyer gets here. I want to call her. Now!"
"Ok. That's fine," Amanda retorted as she and Kat handed Mary a phone and left the room.
Olivia was waiting for them outside.
"Do you believe her?"
Kat sighed as she looked at Mary in disgust.
"About her brother's motivation, sure. About her going along with him out of fear? Hell, no."
"Well, keep working on both kids. We need more answers," Olivia ordered.
"Will do, Liv," Amanda replied.
Once, Mary's Lawyer, Denise Brockmorton arrived, The interrogation continued. Fin was interrogating Kevin at the same time.
"So when did you decide to rape Ava Morgenstern?"
"I told you, it wasn't rape. The bitch wanted it," Kevin retorted with a smirk.
"Well, that's funny, because we've been talking with your sister and she said it was rape and it was all your idea and you forced her to go along with it," Fin lied.
Kevin's face turned bright red with fury.
"My sister's a lying psycho! She wanted me to ruin that whore so Auggie Matthews would dump her and Mary could have him to herself! My brother…"
"Not another word, Kevin!" Buchanan warned, but it was too late.
"Your brother did what, Michael?" Fin demanded, but Kevin clammed up.
Fin sent off a quick text to Amanda who received it right away.
Armed with the new information, she continued interrogating Mary.
"So Mary, Kevin just told my sergeant that you wanted him to hurt Ava so you could take her boyfriend. He also said something about your other brother…"
"Ok! Charlie told us it was the only way to get even!" Mary blurted out, before her lawyer could stop her.
"Get even for what?" Kat asked.
"Auggie hit Kevin with a rock just because my brother wanted to have a little fun with that weird kid that can't hear! Some people can't take a joke! Geez! Charlie had done it before. It's why we have to see him in prison now! Some girl treated him bad and he got back at her," Mary kept talking over her lawyer's attempts to quiet her.
Finally the detectives had enough to arraign both Michael siblings.
Olivia was looking on in shock. The name Charlie sounded familiar to her, then she snapped that there was a case a year back that Carisi had told her about. Charlie Gardner. He was arrested for attempting to harm an ex-girlfriend, Riley Matthews…Topanga Matthews' daughter, and was suspected to have held Riley's friend, Maya Hunter, captive in his vehicle and possibly planning to assault the young woman a year before that, but it was never proven.
Could the deaf kid be KC's son? She remembered seeing him wearing hearing aids on the day they found out about Ava's miscarriage.
Everything was beginning to add up. These seemingly separate incidents were actually all connected. Charlie wanted to hurt Riley, Kevin wanted to hurt Auggie. Charlie must have convinced his younger brother to assault Ava like he was suspected to have attempted with Maya.
Later that evening, Olivia went home to Noah. After paying Lucy and seeing the sitter out, she found her son in his room, looking at his yearbook from the year before.
"Hey, Honey. What's going on?"
"Hi, Mom. I was just looking through this so I could see Ava's class. I was trying to understand why she ran away when she saw me the other day," Noah explained.
Olivia sighed. "Oh, buddy. That wasn't about you. Ava's just been having a hard time lately."
Noah shook his head.
"No, Mom. I don't think it's that. At least it's not only that. Look at this picture. The boy right next to Ava. Everyone in school knows she and Auggie Matthews have been an item since they were little. I heard they broke up. Well, you see this, Mom?"
Olivia looked at the picture with the name Auggie Matthews under it. Her eyes widened. The boy staring back at her from the yearbook page could be Noah in just a couple of years. The resemblance was uncanny.
"See? He looks just like me, only older!" Noah pointed out.
Olivia nodded and uttered under her breath, "No wonder that poor girl looked like she'd seen a ghost."
