Chapter 5: Stolen Cards! Kneel to the King

In the days that followed, Yuya Sakaki had become the talk of Maiami City. Mostly due to the newest Summoning Method he performed against Strong Ishijima.

Pendulum Summon.

Unfortunately, Yuya didn't fully know how he performed the Pendulum Summon even after doing a demonstration for a bunch of prospective students that had come to learn about Pendulum Summon. It was even more difficult when the prospects discovered that Yuya was using cards never heard of; Pendulum Cards. Apparently, since Yuya was the only one who had these types of cards, they thought of him as a cheat and left. However, there was one boy out of all of them that stood with Yuya, claiming that he fought the Champion fair and square.

The boy's name is Tatsuya Yamashiro. Apparently, he had been part of a study group and was actually one of the kids that watched Yuya and Gongenzaka's Duel before Yuya dueled the Champion. Ever since he watched that Duel, he's been a strong supporter of Yuya and became a student of the You Show Duel School.

Tsubasa actually took the time to be one of Yuya's sparring partners to practice his Pendulum Summoning. At least, when they weren't bothered by school or homework. Speaking of which, after finishing his classes at Maiami First High School for the day, the Royal Paladin duelist stood outside the gate of the middle school, waiting for his friends Yuya and Yuzu. Along the way, he met the younger kids; Tatsuya, Ayu, and Futoshi.

"Ne, ne, Tsubasa-niichan, are you going to Duel with Yuya-niichan today?" Ayu asked the blue-haired teen.

Tsubasa smiled, "That's right. Yuya's been excited to use Pendulum Summon for a while now and I've been meaning to try out some new cards with them."

"Oh! Is it more of those Royal Paladins?" Tatsuya inquired.

"That's right. And I'm not gonna go easy on him just because he's You Show's rising star." Tsubasa chuckled.

Futoshi grinned. "That's so cool! I wanna see more of those Vanguard cards!"

"I really like Wingal and Flogal. They're just so cute!" Ayu said with a cutesy smile.

Tsubasa rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, "Uh, yeah… I remembered how much you wouldn't let go of them when I was practicing." That particular memory was both hilarious and a little traumatizing, at least, for his cards. It was during one of his Duels with Yuya before he got the Pendulum cards. Ayu and Futoshi were watching at the time. During the Duel, Tsubasa had summoned both Flogal and Wingal at the same time and before he knew it, they were suddenly swept up by the redheaded girl and being hugged to death. He'd never seen their eyes get so big they'd look like dinner plates.

"That's not the issue here!" A familiar pink-haired girl said, annoyed. Drawing the attention of the kids and Tsubasa. Approaching the entrance of the school were Yuya Sakaki and Yuzu Hiiragi, the latter of whom was scolding her childhood friend about something that none of them could understand. At least, until she took notice of the small gathering outside.

"Yuya-niichan!" The kids called out in greeting while waving at the approaching teens.

"Oh! You guys!" Yuya greeted them with a smile then noticed the blue-haired teen with them. "Hey, Tsubasa."

"Hey, you two." Tsubasa greeted with a grin.

"Nii-chan! I heard you did a Pendulum Summon!" Futoshi told the tomato-haired boy with a giddy grin.

"Hurry, show it to us!" Tatsuya insisted, equally giddy.

"You got it!" Yuya said with a toothy smile. "Onwards to Duel School!" However, before the group could leave, three toy darts landed right in the middle of Yuya's nose, surprising him.

"Wh-What the…?" Yuzu said, startled by the darts on Yuya's face.

"Who threw these?" Tsubasa pondered.

"A Triple Bullseye! 150 Points!" A suave voice spoke, drawing the You Show students' attention to the person in question. A handsome young boy with short light brown and blonde hair, styled in layers, and grayish blue eyes. He also wore the same boy's uniform as Yuya for Maiami Second Middle School. He also held a toy dart in his right hand, indicating that he was the one who threw them. "Pretty impressive, right?"

"Bu-bullseye?" Yuya repeated, confused.

"You're Yuya Sakaki, aren't you?" The mysterious boy asked with a grin then grabbed the tomato-haired boy's hand with both of his as if in greeting. "I'm Shingo Sawatari from Class 1, nice to meet you!"

"Huh? Oh… yeah." Yuya said, unsure of what to say.

"I saw it on TV, it was amazing, your duel against Strong Ishijima that is!" Sawatari praised the teen while removing the three toy darts from Yuya's face. "Especially that Pendulum Summon, that was the best! What were those cards you used for it called again?"

Tsubasa narrowed his eyes in suspicion when Sawatari asked those questions. He didn't know why but something about the way he spoke set off a red flag in his head.

Yuya, unaware of the danger, answered, "You mean the Pendulum Cards?"

"Yes! Those!" Sawatari said, rather insistently. "Like I thought, rare cards like those are only usable by truly chosen people, right?" This made Yuya appear rather bashful at being chosen but Yuzu and Tsubasa didn't like it.

"Are you going somewhere with this?" Tsubasa inquired.

"Sawatari-kun, you don't have to flatter Yuya that much." Yuzu stated. That comment made Yuya pout.

"No no, I truly believe that!" The suave boy corrected.

The pink-haired girl leaned next to her childhood friend, whispering, "Yuya, didn't you say you were going to show Tatsuya and the others a live Pendulum Summon?"

This snapped Yuya out of his daydreaming, "Ye-Yeah, that's right!"

"If you want to show them a Pendulum summon then, there's a more fitting stage for it." Sawatari offered. He checked his watch, "Until 5 we can use the LDS Center Court. I've got a reservation."

"Huh!?" Yuya exclaimed in shock. "At that LDS Center Court?!"

"You got a reservation?!" Yuzu added, equally surprised.

"Is that supposed to be important?" Tsubasa pondered, a little confused.

The pin on Sawatari's collar seemed to sparkle as he spoke, "I'm a top student at LDS after all. My father is also expected to be our next mayor as well. I just asked him and he gladly gave it to me."

Tsubasa looked at the teen with a dry expression, "So you're a spoiled brat, huh?"

"At the LDS Center Court!" Tatsuya said with awe.

"A Pendulum Summon!" Ayu added.

"Awesome! I'm getting shivers!" Futoshi finished.

The only ones who didn't seem excited were Yuzu and Tsubasa. Both for entirely different reasons but nonetheless, they didn't like it.

"It's not like we can't do it at our place too, you know." Yuzu grumbled while scowling.

"But Yuzu-neechan, it's the LDS Center Court!" Futoshi pointed out with a grin. "Center Court!" Tatsuya and Ayu nodded in agreement, eagerly wanting to go.

Despite her annoyance at the thought of going to LDS, she reluctantly caved in to the children's needs. "Fine, I get it but I'm going too then, but only as a member of a rival Dueling School to check out the competition!"

"I'll go too. I wanna check out LDS." Tsubasa said while secretly thinking, 'And maybe prevent this bad feeling I've been getting when Sawatari arrived.'

"I thought you'd say that." Sawatari said with a smirk, the intent hidden from the You Show kids. "Now, shall we go?"

The kids took off while dragging Yuya with them, Yuzu and Tsubasa following close behind with the former telling the kids to slow down while the latter could only chuckle sheepishly. However, Sawatari paused in his steps and did a small dart gesture as if he had just gotten a bullseye while his smirk turned dark.

"Everything is going according to plan."

"Welcome to LDS!" Sawatari introduced the You Show students to the most famous Duel School in the world, much to the kids' amazement. The interior of the whole building was far bigger than the You Show Duel School. Their Dueling facilities were expansive just like their Duel Fields, there were sections that had students playing Duel Monsters on tables while chatting with each other. Overall, it looked more like a community college center. "Leo Duel School, LDS for short. As you can tell from the name is a Duel School run by the Leo Corporation. Of course, it's invitation only."

"So it's like a prep school." Tsubasa said.

"Something like that."

"It's the top ranked institution too!" Tatsuya added.

"Wow, Tatsuya, you know a lot about this place!" Futoshi said to his new friend in amazement.

"Well, my mom kept telling me that here would've been a better choice." Tatsuya explained.

Sawatari took this chance to continue his explanation of LDS, "The best in facilities, lectures, and curriculum is their motto!"

"So basically, it's got everything our Duel School doesn't!" Ayu chirped happily, unintentionally dissing the You Show Duel School.

"You're quite well informed yourself!" Sawatari said to the young redhead.

"Well, sorry, we're just a run-down school after all!" Yuzu said bitterly.

"Now, now, no need to get mad!" Futoshi assured the pinkette. "Cheap places have their strong points too!"

Yuya took a look at a poster that showcased LDS's curriculum of classes, "But it's true about them having things we don't though. They don't cover just the basics on summons, they've got specific courses. Xyz, Synchro-" As he spoke, he was unaware of a boy with sky blue hair and green eyes, who was sucking on a lollipop. "Wow! They've even got one on fusions!" This made the boy pause and look back at the tomato-haired teen for a second before he started walking off.

Yuzu realized something, "Hey, Tsubasa, don't you know Synchro Summon?" She asked the blue-haired teen.

"Of course." Tsubasa nodded. "I knew how to perform it from my hometown."

"Is that right?" Sawatari pondered, looking at the teen in surprise. "Might I ask, what sort of Deck do you use?"

"Royal Paladin."

Sawatari's eyes widened for a fraction when he heard that name. "From that outdated Vanguard game?"

Tsubasa narrowed his eyes, feeling insulted by Sawatari's casual reference of his ancestor's favorite game being 'outdated'. "Yes." He replied.

"Hm, I would like to see those kinds of cards myself sometime." Sawatari said.

'You might get your wish if what I'm feeling comes true.' The Royal Paladin duelist thought to himself.

"Yuya!" Yuzu called out to her friend, who was staring at something but looked back at the group in surprise.

"The Center Court is this way." Sawatari gestured with a grin.

After a few minutes of walking, the group arrived outside and stood… in the biggest Duel Arena they've ever seen besides Maiami Stadium.

"What I've always wanted to see, LDS' Center Court!" Tatsuya exclaimed with awe.

"The Action Fields for this must be huge." Tsubasa said to himself with shock.

Suddenly, they were approached by three teens who wore the same middle school uniform as Sawatari and Yuya. The obvious leader of the group greeted them with a grin, "Yo." He said.

"Who are they?" Yuya wondered aloud.

"Those kids are your fans too." Sawatari answered. "Could we show them those cards? The ones you use to Pendulum Summon?"

"Huh?" Yuya looked confused and a little apprehensive of showing strangers his most valued cards, especially since he only met them today. "B-but…"

"It'll just be for a little bit. Come on." The suave teen insisted, trying to reason with the tomato-haired boy.

Tsubasa spoke up, "Yuya, you don't have to show them if you don't want to."

"I know, but…" Yuya grimaced, wondering if he really should show his Pendulum Cards or not.

"I promise, it'll only be for a bit." Sawatari assured the Entertainment duelist.

"O-Okay…" Yuya replied, albeit reluctantly as he reached into his deck box and pulled out Astromancy Magician and Chronomancy Magician. However, when he held them out to show the cards, Sawatari suddenly swiped them, much to the boy's shock and horror. "Hey!"

"Take a look!" Sawatari showed both cards to the three teens.

"Awesome!" The trio said in unison.

The boy with brown hair looked positively giddy, "These are the cards you use to Pendulum Summon?" He took Chronomancy Magician's card while the boy with dark green hair snatched Astromancy Magician's card, holding up high with a wide smile.

"I want these!" The boy with spiky dark brown hair said, a little jealous his buddies got to touch the cards first.

Sawatari snagged the cards back from the trio, "We can't have that. These aren't yours, right?" He said with a smirk as he glanced at Yuya.

"Aww…" The trio whined before simultaneously smirking in unison.

"After all, these are going to be added to my collection." Sawatari remarked, revealing his true intentions to the You Show kids.

"Eh?!" Yuya exclaimed.

"Wait! What do you mean?" Yuzu questioned the suave teen.

"Isn't it obvious?" Tsubasa spoke while glaring daggers at Sawatari. "He didn't care about seeing a Pendulum Summon. He just wanted to steal Yuya's cards."

"Steal? How hurtful!" Sawatari said with mock sadness. "I assure you, I'm no thief. See, I just love rare and strong cards." He smirked. "I just hate putting weak cards in my deck. So, I'm saying I'll be taking these off your hands." The thief brought up Yuya's magicians in emphasis while grinning maliciously.

"So that's why you called us out here!" Yuzu shouted, scowling at the scumbag who stole her friend's cards.

Sawatari shrugged, "Not just for these. Since I have them, now I'd like to try them out." He said as he put the Pendulum cards in a pocket inside his jacket as he glanced at his lackeys. "You guys want to see a Pendulum Summon, right?"

"Of course!"

"I wanna see it!"

Hearing this, the smug Duelist brought up a green Duel Disk. "That's why I got a reservation for the Center Court." He said while putting his Duel Disk on his wrist, which snapped on.

"H-hold on…!" Yuya said, unable to believe that this was happening.

"It's fine, isn't it?" Sawatari interjected as he approached Yuya. "Besides, didn't everyone come all the way here just to see a Pendulum Summon?" He grabbed the boy's goggles, pulled them back then released them, letting the goggles smack into Yuya's face hard enough to send him to the ground.

"Yuya-niichan!" Tatsuya cried out with worry for the older boy.

"What now?" Sawatari asked mockingly. "Do you not want to duel with someone like me?"

"But…!" Yuya started, only just now able to try collecting his thoughts to respond.

"Well? I'm waiting," Sawatari urged him on, leaning over to stare down at Yuya condescendingly.

"Okay, you know what?" Tsubasa frowned as he spoke up. "Just leave him alone!"

"Hah? And why should I?" The thief retorted.

"Because a coward like you wouldn't even stand a chance against Yuya." The blue-haired teen stated. His ocean blue eyes glaring holes into Sawatari's head. "Plus, why would he waste his time dueling a thief, who would rather steal cards?"

"Who are you calling a coward, you little nobody!?" Sawatari snarled.

Tsubasa brought up his own Duel Disk. "Tell you what, I'll duel you in Yuya's place." He offered while the blade of the device jets out. "Think you can handle an actual Duel, you coward?"

"Tsubasa, wait! You don't have to do this!" Yuya tried to reason with his friend.

"Sorry, Yuya. But I can't stand by while someone who passes themselves off as a Duelist would steal others cards and claim them for himself. Every card is precious to a Duelist, no matter how strong or weak it is." Tsubasa stated. "So I promise… I will get your Pendulum Cards back!"

The tomato-haired teen looked at his friend in shock, "Tsubasa…"

The LDS boy, meanwhile, couldn't help but grumble something inaudible under his breath, seeing that Tsubasa wasn't going to back down from his decision easily. "Alright, fine," he said. "If you think you've got what it takes, I don't really care who I duel!"

"At least you act like a Duelist." Tsubasa said.

However, the suave teen snapped his fingers with a smirk and his goons were on the move. Before anybody could react, Yuzu, Tatsuya, Ayu, and Futoshi were caught in their grip.

"Hey, what are you-" Yuzu tried to say as one of the goons held her wrist.

The kids cried out in fear, "Yuya-niichan! Tsubasa-niichan!"

"Stop it! What are you doing!?" Yuya exclaimed.

"Are you that cowardly?! Using hostages!?" Tsubasa shouted, glaring at Sawatari.

"What, me? Using hostages? Who do you take me for?" Sawatari questioned, feigning an offended expression. "I'm just making sure you don't try and back down on me, is all."

Tsubasa growled, which was usually uncharacteristic of him. "When I win this Duel, you're going to release them and return Yuya's Pendulum Cards. Got it?" He said while putting his Deck into his Duel Disk, which auto-shuffled.

"Yeah, yeah, sure thing," The other teen replied dismissively while he readied his own Duel Disk. "But you have to actually beat me first."

"I wouldn't underestimate me." Tsubasa warned. "Better Duelists than you have done the same and they still lost. So, since I'm on your home turf, you can pick the Action Field."

"Way ahead of you," The card thief said back, smirking as he snapped his fingers and the systems beneath, almost like on cue, started up as the Action Field was loaded. "We'll duel here: Action Field, Prison Tower of Darktown!"

As light flooded up from the floor, the world around the two duelists was quickly glossed over by the scenery of a dark, almost dingy looking city. Yuzu and the kids suddenly screamed as they stood upon a tower that was connected to a bridge, which went higher and higher.

"Everyone!" Yuya exclaimed, afraid that his friends might be hurt.

"Sawatari, you scum!" Tsubasa scowled. The blade of his Duel Disk released a rainbow-like glow beneath the frame, symbolizing that it was ready and waiting for the Duel to begin. "Yuya, go help Yuzu and the kids. I'll take care of Sawatari."

Yuya looked at the blue-haired duelist and nodded, "Be careful." With that said, he took off, using his honed agility and reflexes to climb the rooftops of the buildings.

Sawatari just chuckled confidently after watching the redhead hurry off of the immediate scene of the duel. "Now since you wanted to be the big, brave hero, you can go first."

"Fine." Tsubasa said as he drew his five cards with his opponent mimicking him.

Suddenly, the Sawatari goon squad decided to do the Action Duel announcement.

"Duelists locked in battle!" Goon 1 said.

"Kicking against the earth and dancing in the air alongside their monsters!" Goon 2 added.

"They storm through this Field!" Goon 3 said with a pose while the rest of the goons did a similar pose.

"Behold!" Sawatari exclaimed with a smirk. "This is the newest and greatest evolution of Dueling! ACTION!"

"DUEL!" The two Duelists exclaimed at the same time as their Life Point meters came on.

Tsubasa: 4000

Sawatari: 4000

Overhead, the Action Cards that had gathered immediately dispersed, scattering the cards throughout the Field for the Duelists to find.

"I'm first." Tsubasa said as he took off, passing Sawatari while looking at his current Hand. "I place one Monster face down in DEF Mode!" He declared, setting the card on his Duel Disk while a holographic image of the card appeared and followed him as he ran up a set of stairs then used the connecting rooftops as stepping stones. "Next, I play two cards face down! T-an endo!" The two cards appeared behind before vanishing, leaving his current hand at two.

"Then it's time for me to make my move!" Sawatari declared with a grin as he drew a card at the start of the turn. Eyeing what he had in his hand, the young man was relatively pleased with himself. "First off, I summon Lightning Board!"

Spinning into the air as it made its entrance onto the field was a monster resembling a dart board, but with a blatantly demonic motif and, true to its name, lightning arcing off of it from all directions, and even from behind it as well.

Lightning Board (4/ATK: 1400/DEF: 1200)

The demonic board landed in front of Sawatari, allowing him to hop aboard it as the monster took off at lightning speed after its master's prey. Since Tsubasa wasn't using a Monster to better scale the rooftops, it was easy for Sawatari to catch up to his opponent.

Tsubasa gritted his teeth, "He caught up…" He muttered under his breath.

"I'm no slouch when it comes to dueling in this field. I've practiced in it a couple of times in the past, enough to get me familiar with how to move around it," Sawataru bragged. "But enough about me. Lightning Board attacks your monster!"

Tsubasa narrowed his eyes but said nothing else, he didn't even bother trying to use his face down cards for defense.

The demonic board that Sawatari rode upon began to conduct electricity as the Duelist called out its signature attack, "Lightning Darts!" As he said this, Lightning Board fired dagger-shaped thunderbolts that sped directly towards Tsubasa's face down Monster.

"An attack like that… won't even touch my Monster!" Tsubasa declared as the face down card flipped over. "Show him what I mean! Flash Shield, Iseult!" Appearing in a burst of blue light was the tan-skinned, white haired woman as she brought up her gauntlet that held her shield and stopped the lightning darts in their tracks.

Royal Paladin - Flash Shield, Iseult (4/ATK: 0/DEF: 2000)

"My monster's DEF is higher than your Lightning Board's ATK. Meaning you take damage." Tsubasa stated.

Tsubasa: 4000

Sawatari: 4000 - 600 = 3400

The LDS boy clicked his tongue, openly annoyed by the outcome of the attack but not taking long to compose himself again. "Alright, in that case, I'll Set a card and end my turn."

"My turn! Draw!" Tsubasa drew his card, making his current Hand total to three. As he ran, he spotted something glinting on the roof then called out to his monster, "Iseult!" The female knight nodded as she brought up her shield, allowing her master to use it like a springboard and launched him to the other side. Tucking his legs in, the blue-haired teen managed to absorb most of the impact and rolled then slid in front of an Action Card. "Nice!" He took the card and smiled when he saw its effect then played the Action Card. "I activate the Action Spell: Quickdraw! This lets me draw an additional card from my Deck. However, I can't Normal Summon a Monster this Turn." He drew his card and smiled with pride when he noticed the familiar image of Blaster Blade. "T-an endo!" Iseult returned to Tsubasa's side as his turn ended.

Again Sawatari smirked. "Heh, that all?" He asked as he drew a new card, his smirk turning up higher as he eyed the newfound tool at his disposal. "I activate the Spell: Tribute Trade! This lets me tribute a monster on my field to add one from my deck to my hand that's one Level higher! So I'll be tributing my Lightning Board…" Hopping off of his monster quickly and landing on a small ledge, Sawataru began thumbing through his deck as his lone monster vanished in a shower of motes of light. "And in doing that, I can add this card to my hand! Astromancy Magician!"

After the boy had found the card he desired, he set his deck back into the Duel Disk and proudly displayed one of his most recent "acquisitions".

Tsubasa's eyes widened in shock, "That's… Astromancy Magician!"

"That's right! And now I have everything I need. If I remember right, you do it like this…" He replied before plucking a second card from his hand to reveal to everyone present.

"You had Chronomancy Magician from the start?!" Tsubasa said with growing horror.

The thieving duelist didn't answer as he held up his Duel Disk. "Using the Scale 1 Astromancy Magician and the Scale 8 Chronomancy Magician, I set the Pendulum Scale!" He declared. Slapping the two cards onto the opposing ends of his card tray, two pillars of light rose up into the sky, flanking him on each side, and within the lights the signature spellcasters that made up Yuya's Pendulum duo floated to the very apex of their respective column.

Yuya, who had been watching the Duel every once in a while during his attempt to rescue his friends, couldn't believe what he was seeing right now. "No way… someone else but me… can Pendulum Summon?" He muttered, unable to look away.

"I Pendulum Summon!" the brown-haired boy announced proudly as a portal tore itself open in the skies above and unleashed three masses of energy that promptly took form as they joined Sawatari on the field. "Power Darts Shooter! Rocket Darts Shooter! And last but not least, Ultimate Darts Shooter!"

The three were mostly mechanical humanoid figures, each clad in a sleek armor plating of varying styles and colors; Power Darts Shooter sported rounded orange armor; Rocket Darts Shooter had reddish pink armor with a rougher, more squared design; and Ultimate Darts Shooter, perhaps the most intimidating of the three, was clad in deep blues with a very jagged motif that was complemented by the oversized dart that acted as a makeshift lance.

Power Darts Shooter (5/ATK: 1800/DEF: 700)

Rocket Darts Shooter (6/ATK: 1900/DEF: 100)

Ultimate Darts Shooter (7/ATK: 2400/DEF: 300)

"I might be in trouble here." Tsubasa said to himself while Iseult brought her shield up, determined to defend her Vanguard from the threat.

"Sawatari… actually performed a Pendulum Summon." Yuzu said from atop the tower in utter shock.

Meanwhile, Sawatari was grinning from ear to ear, absolutely thrilled he was able to perform this new unknown summoning method. "I activate the effect of Power Darts Shooter! I target Rocket Darts Shooter and tribute Power Darts! By doing that, Rocket Darts' ATK goes up by 600 this turn!"

Upon the effect's explanation, the orange-armored monster vanished in a flash of light, and at the same time, an orange dart appeared preloaded into Rocket Darts Shooter's modified dart gun.

Rocket Darts Shooter (6/ATK: 1900-2500/DEF: 100)

"Now for my counterattack! Ultimate Darts Shooter attacks Iseult!" On command, the blue armored warrior charged forward, its dart lance at the ready to pierce Tsubasa's dark-skinned monster.

"I don't think so! Iseult's special effect activates! Once per turn, she can't be destroyed in battle!" Tsubasa declared as Iseult's shield glowed before it projected a large rune that looked similar to a Vanguard circle, which stopped Ultimate Darts Shooter's attack cold.

"I'm not even finished yet! Rocket Darts Shooter attacks Iseult next!" Sawatari announced as his next monster got into a stance and aimed right at Iseult. "Your little monster can only survive once a turn, so there's no getting around this one!"

Tsubasa gritted his teeth. He looked at his two face down cards and considered using them but he might need them for an even greater attack. With heavy reluctance, he said, "I'm sorry, Iseult…"

The woman looked back at her Vanguard and gave him a nod of understanding. Not long after, she winced as a large dart-like projectile struck her from the front, making her break apart into mere pixels upon her destruction.

"And now for Ultimate Darts Shooter's effect during Main Phase 2! I can target any Darts monsters in my Graveyard that were tributed by an effect this turn and Special Summon them during the End Phase, which is right after I target Power Darts Shooter in the Graveyard!" Sawatari explained as, after a few moments, his orange monster rose back onto the field from a dark portal on the ground.

"And that right there, is my turn."

"Not good. Sawatari has three monsters on his Field." Yuya grimaced.

"Tsubasa-niichan doesn't have any monsters on his." Ayu whimpered as she held onto Yuzu.

Yuzu hugged the children together, "Don't worry." She told them, drawing their attention to her. "As long as he doesn't give up, he can win."

"My turn! Draw!" Tsubasa drew his card then looked at it before his eyes widened. "This is…" He muttered before adding the card to his hand then he picked another card and played it. "I summon Little Sage, Marron in ATK Mode!" Appearing on the Field was the familiar blonde-haired Spellcaster, who pushed his glasses up to his nose with a smirk on his boyish face.

Royal Paladin - Little Sage, Marron (4/ATK: 1500/DEF: 800)

"Marron's effect activates! I draw two cards from my Deck then I have to choose one and return the other to the bottom of my Deck." Tsubasa explained as he drew two cards from his Deck, looked them over and chose the right card, adding it to his hand and returning the last one to the bottom of his Deck, which then shuffled. "Next, I activate the Spell Card, Double Summon! This will let me perform a second Normal Summon this turn!" After playing the Spell, his current hand had been reduced to four.

"Oh? And what weakling can you hope to summon? My Pendulum Monsters will crush all of them just like that little skank of a monster." Sawatari mocked with a devious grin.

Tsubasa's eyes narrowed, "You can insult me all you like but don't you dare besmirch Iseult. She gave it her all and I believed in her til the end. Just like I believe in all my Royal Paladins."

"Oh yeah? And you think that 'belief' of yours is gonna help you win when I have the power of Pendulum Summoning?"

"It definitely will. Especially now that I have a faithful friend of mine who wants to say hello." Tsubasa said as he brought up a card and turned it over to reveal Blaster Blade. "I tribute Little Sage, Marron in order to Advance Summon!"

"The champion of the United Sanctuary cometh! Wielder of the sacred sword, strike down the darkness! Stand up, My Avatar! Blaster Blade!"

Marron closed his eyes as a torrent of wind surrounded him. When the wind vanished, it revealed Blaster Blade in all his glory as he glared at Sawatari with icy blue eyes.

Royal Paladin - Blaster Blade (7/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2100)

"What?! How can you summon a Level 7 Monster with one Tribute!?" Sawatari demanded.

Tsubasa smirked, "It's a neat little effect he has. If I have a Royal Paladin monster on the Field while Blaster Blade is in my hand, I can summon him with only one tribute." He outstretched his hand. "Blaster Blade has an additional effect! When he's successfully summoned, I can destroy one Monster on your Field! I'll get rid of Ultimate Darts Shooter! Burst Buster!"

Blaster Blade aimed his sword at the blue armored warrior and released a blast of blue energy at his foe.

The Darts duelist chuckled. "Oh really? Then I'll just activate my Trap! Breakthrough Skill!" he retorted as his only back row card rose up. "This will let me negate the effects of one of your monsters this turn, and I can't think of anyone better than your wannabe knight!" Within seconds, Sawatari's Trap had released a wave of force that washed over the field, causing Blaster Blade's ray to fizzle out before it could even reach Sawatari's monster.

Tsubasa scowled, "In that case… Battle! Blaster Blade attacks Rocket Darts Shooter!" At his order, Blaster Blade brought up his weapon and dashed towards the feminine red machine, intent on cutting her in half.

However, Sawatari didn't stand around, he had already been mobile before Tsubasa called his attack. His grey eyes spotted an Action Card that he quickly snatched and activated. "Action Magic: Block Draw! I negate your knight's attack and then I draw a card!"

When Blaster Blade was about to hit Rocket Darts Shooter, the red robotic female suddenly jumped in the air, avoiding the white knight's Blade.

Seeing as how he had no other way to attack, Tsubasa said, "T-an endo…"

"And my turn once again," Sawatari noted as he eyed his hand after drawing another card. "Hm… lucky for you, I don't need to Pendulum Summon this turn. I can just summon Double Darts Shooter." Content with just his Normal Summon, Sawatari called forth another mechanical warrior, this one clad less in armor and what appeared to be more like heavy duty yellow mesh that criss crossed all over the monster's body.

Double Darts Shooter (4/1600/400)

"Now he has four Monsters!" Futoshi cried out with tears in his eyes. "It's hopeless! Even with Tsubasa-niichan's Blaster Blade, he can't take them all on!"

"That's assuming his little friend will be around long enough to try," Sawatari retorted as he gestured to two of his four monsters. "I'm activating the effects of Power Darts Shooter and Double Darts Shooter! By Tributing them and targeting Ultimate Darts Shooter, the latter gains 600 ATK and can attack twice this turn!" The orange and yellow-colored monsters simply shifted into streaks of light that merged with the massive dart of Sawatari's headliner, causing the weapon to shimmer as he was bolstered significantly.

Ultimate Darts Shooter (7/ATK: 2400-3000/DEF: 300)

"It's stronger than Blaster Blade!" Tatsuya exclaimed in horror.

"And since it can attack twice…" Ayu said with shock.

"...Tsubasa could lose the Duel." Yuzu finished, holding out to hope that her friend would survive.

"I'm not scared of you. Blaster Blade and I won't go down so easily." Tsubasa told his thieving opponent.

"Now to end this duel!" Sawatari said decisively before pointing at Blaster Blade. "Ultimate Darts Shooter attacks Blaster Blade!"

"Not so fast! Reverse card activate!" Tsubasa tapped a button on his Duel Disk as one of his face down cards lifted up, revealing a green Vanguard symbol. "Perfect Guard! If a Monster on my Field is the target for an attack, it can't be destroyed in battle and any damage I would receive is negated! So my Blaster Blade is safe! However, instead of sending this to the Graveyard after its use, I have to remove it from play."

Ultimate Darts Shooter goes in for the killing blow but a giant green shield appears in front of Blaster Blade, stopping the blow.

Sawatari smirked, "But I still have another attack that my Ultimate Darts Shooter can perform. Not only that, but I still have my Rocket Darts Shooter."

"I'm aware…" Tsubasa grimaced, realizing that even though he wouldn't lose all of his Life Points but his favored warrior would be destroyed.

"Looks like your card game reject won't be surviving after all," The other boy added as he gestured for his monster to go for its next strike. After stepping back in response to the last defensive barrier's appearance, the mechanized monster dashed in again and thrust its weapon forward, skewering Blaster Blade right through the chest and making the warrior vanish in a burst of light.

Tsubasa: 4000 - 500 = 3500

Sawatari: 3400

"Now he's defenseless!" Yuya exclaimed, concerned for his friend.

"This is not good! I'm getting shivers! And they're not the good kind!" Futoshi whined.

"And here's another one from Rocket Darts Shooter!"

The female red machine aimed its darts thrower at Tsubasa before firing three rocket-propelled darts at the boy. The Royal Paladin duelist brought up his arms as the attack exploded around him, kicking up smoke and dust as his Life Points fell.

Tsubasa: 3500 - 1900 = 1600

Sawatari: 3400

"And now during my second Main Phase I'm using the effect of Ultimate Darts Shooter and then ending my turn. You remember how that goes, right?" Sawatari added with a confident smirk as the two monsters he had tributed previously returned to the field, which also signaled the end of the blue-armored monster's empowerment.

Ultimate Darts Shooter (7/ATK: 3000-2400/DEF: 300)

"Blaster Blade…" Tsubasa said quietly, upset that his favorite card was beaten. However, even if he fell, he still had several other cards that could help him. "My turn! Draw!" He drew his card, checking it before grinning as he added it to his hand. "Alright! Let's get this show on the road!" He took off running while taking a card from his hand. "I summon Barcgal in ATK Mode!"

Appearing beside the boy is the familiar silver armored wolf as it ran alongside its Vanguard while holding a dagger in its jaws.

Royal Paladin - Barcgal (4/ATK: 1200/DEF: 200)

"Barcgal's special effect activates! When he's Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon from my Deck, Flogal in DEF Mode!" A card pops out of his Deck, which Tsubasa quickly seized then played on his card tray. Running alongside the Duelist and Barcgal was the female pink dog.

Royal Paladin - Flogal (2/ATK: 300/DEF: 800)

"Hah! So now you're resorting to using mutts? That's pretty pathetic!" Sawatari laughed mockingly, much to Barcgal and Flogal's frustration.

"You won't be laughing when I'm through." Tsubasa said before his eyes caught sight of something. "Barcgal!" He called out while the wolf threw his dagger, which stabbed into the side of a building. Still running, the boy leaped into the air and stepped on the dagger's hilt, using it to propel himself up as he reached out his hand and snagged an Action Card. "Must be my lucky day."

"Yes, he got an Action Card!" Tatsuya exclaimed with joy.

"Action Magic: Summon Signal!" Tsubasa declared, playing the Action Card. A signal light appeared over the city, with a symbol resembling a Kuriboh. "By activating this spell, I can Special Summon a monster from my Deck by selecting one on my Field with the highest Level! Barcgal has the highest level, meaning I can call out a Level 4 monster!" A card pops out of his Deck allowing him to take it out before he showed it to his opponent. "I choose Knight of Truth, Gordon! Come on out, my friend!"

Emerging in between Barcgal and Flogal is a male human knight with spiky grey hair that had a long ponytail, grey eyes, a handsome face and wore a purple Victorian shirt beneath his rounded steel plate armor with blue accents while wielding a rapier.

Royal Paladin - Knight of Truth, Gordon (4/ATK: 1800/DEF: 500)

"Battle! Gordon attacks Double Darts Shooter!" Tsubasa commanded as his newly summoned knight took the charge.

Sawarari grunted as he had no cards in the back row and there were no Action Cards in sight, so he simply dashed off to the side along with his remaining monsters while Double Darts Shooter got held up by Gordon. The knight had a cocky smirk on his face as he drew his rapier back then threw it forward, stabbing the machine right in the chest. Double Darts Shooter released a pained groan before shattering into yellow pixels.

Tsubasa: 1600

Sawatari: 3400 - 200 = 3200

"And since I destroyed that monster by battle, your Ultimate Darts Shooter's effect can't bring it back." Tsubasa stated.

"Tch! Lucky break!" Sawatari spat back.

"My other monsters aren't strong enough to beat your other Monsters but I think I got my point across. T-an endo!" Tsubasa declared.

"And I draw," Sawatari said as he started his turn. He couldn't help but chuckle out loud a little. "You know, you sure did mess up just now."

Tsubasa raised a brow, "In what way?"

"You left me with everything I need to finish you off for good this time," He answered back before gesturing to his two weaker monsters. "The effects of Power Darts Shooter and Rocket Darts Shooter activate! By tributing them and targeting Ultimate Darts Shooter, he gains 600 ATK again, but now if he attacks a monster in defense mode, he deals piercing damage!"

"The only monster that Tsubasa-niichan has in DEF mode is-" Ayu tried to say but was interrupted by Sawatari.

"Flogal!" He proclaimed, finishing her sentence for her before pointing to the pink dog. "And Ultimate Darts Shooter is aiming right for that mangy mutt!"

"Try it!" Tsubasa challenged.

"Then you better try and stop me!" Sawatari countered. "Ultimate Darts Shooter, attack Flogal and put it down!"

Ultimate Darts Shooter took aim at the small pink dog and fired its upgraded dart launcher. It seemed this would be the end for Flogal.

"I activate Gordon's special effect! If a Royal Paladin monster besides him is the target of an attack, I can tribute him to end the Battle Phase!" Tsubasa declared.

Before the blue machine could destroy Flogal, Gordon stood in its path and blocked the attack using his rapier. Seeing as how it wouldn't be able to get to its target, Ultimate Darts Shooter was forced to return to its master while Gordon began to disappear into particles.

"Thank you, Gordon." The blue-haired boy told the knight, who gave him a grin and a nod before vanishing.

Sawatari growled, seeing as he couldn't defeat his opponent this turn, "You may have survived this turn but next time, you won't be so lucky. Ultimate Darts Shooter's effect activates during the second Main Phase! I end my turn." The powered up monster split apart as Power Darts Shooter and Rocket Darts Shooter stood beside Ultimate Darts Shooter.

Everyone watching Tsubasa could only stare at the boy, concerned or impatient. The You Show group knew that if their friend didn't make a comeback this turn, it would be all over and Yuya could kiss his Pendulum cards goodbye.

"I sure hope you have something better than those card game rejects to help you out this turn, otherwise this duel is mine for the taking." Sawatari pointed out gloatingly as he crossed his arms, observing Tsubasa with a hint of amusement.

Tsubasa's bangs shadowed his eyes, making it rather impossible to tell how he was feeling. He placed two fingers on the top card of his Deck and slowly released a breath, "Come on, guys… Don't let me down. I need something good." He looked up, glaring at Sawatari. "My turn! Draw!" He pulled the card out and when he glanced at the image, a smirk appeared on his face. "Final Turn!"

"What?" The brown-haired boy asked, caught off guard as he dropped his facade for just a moment.

"Did he just say…" Yuzu started in surprise.

"...Final Turn?" Yuya finished, equally surprised.

"Last chance for you to give up." Tsubasa offered the thieving duelist.

"As if I'd give up. I'm a duelist, after all. Try and beat me this turn, if you can."

"Gladly, because now I activate this card. The Spell, Royal Paladin Fusion!" Tsubasa declared, revealing the card he just drew from his Deck. "With this card, I can summon a Fusion Monster from my Extra Deck as long as I send the required materials to the Graveyard from my hand, Field, or Deck!"

"What!?" Sawatari exclaimed in shock.

"A Fusion Summon?" Yuzu repeated in confusion. "But… I thought he only knew Synchro Summoning?"

"From my Deck, I send Royal Paladin - Alfred Early and Royal Paladin - Lion Mane Stallion!" Tsubasa said as two cards popped out of his Deck then he revealed the images of the monsters then sent them to the Graveyard. Holographic images of the cards appeared before a swirling fusion gate then they were forced together.

"Prince of the United Sanctuary, ride astride the beast of flames and lead your loyal knights to battle! Fusion Summon! Kneel before the king! King of Knights, Alfred!"

A brilliant flash of light shined in the darkened Action Field, forcing everyone to shield their eyes from the light. When it started to dim, all present looked upon the sight and noticed a new Monster present on Tsubasa's Field.

It was a man dressed in regal white-navy armor with a cape, a crowned helmet, and two large, curved broadswords held in his hands as he rode upon a blue stallion with the mane and tail the color of fire.

Royal Paladin - King of Knights, Alfred (10/ATK: 4000/DEF: 2500)

"Tch…!" Sawataru clicked his tongue as he saw the monster make its appearance, taking a subconscious step backwards.

"King of Knights?" Ayu repeated with awe.

"So cool! That monster is just so cool!" Tatsuya exclaimed.

"And it has 4000 ATK! It's giving me the shivers!" Futoshi cheered while performing his weird shiver dance.

Tsubasa's smirk grew, "Alfred's effect! I banish 2 Royal Paladin monsters in my Graveyard then I can Special Summon a Level 5 or higher Royal Paladin from my hand or Deck. I choose Knight of Truth, Gordon and Flash Shield, Iseult, banishing them from the Graveyard." After removing his aforementioned monsters from the Graveyard, a card pops out from the middle of his Deck, which he takes to reveal to his opponent. "The monster I chose is my Level 6 Swordsman of Light, Blaster Axe Grawl!" He played the card on his Duel Disk.

Appearing beside the King of Knights is a large man clad in bulky white armor while wielding a two-handed battle axe of similar make to Blaster Blade's sword.

Royal Paladin - Swordsman of Light, Blaster Axe Grawl (6/ATK: 2400/DEF: 100)

"Grawl's effect activates. Since I control a Royal Paladin with 'Alfred' in its name, Grawl gains 500 ATK." Tsubasa explained.

Royal Paladin - Swordsman of Light, Blaster Axe Grawl (6/ATK: 2400-2900/DEF: 100)

"Grawl's additional effect. When he's Normal or Special Summoned, I can add 1 "Royal Paladin" card from my Graveyard to my hand. I choose my Blaster Blade." Tsubasa declared as his ace monster's card ejects from the Graveyard slot and he adds it to his hand.

"Are you going somewhere with this?" Sawatari questioned, looking calm despite the nervous sweat on his face.

"Since I control a Royal Paladin with 'Alfred' in its name, I can Special Summon from my hand Swordsman of Light, Junos!" Tsubasa continued, playing the card from his hand as a new monster materialized on the opposite side of Alfred. The new monster is revealed to be a young man in his late teens with auburn hair and green eyes while wearing armor of similar make to Blaster Blade but he only had one shoulder pauldron and his helmet looked like something used in Olympic wrestling. The weapon he wielded looked exactly like Blaster Blade's sword.

Royal Paladin - Swordsman of Light, Junos (4/ATK: 1600/DEF: 900)

"Junos's effect activates! For every Level 7 or above Royal Paladin monster I control, he gains 200 ATK for each. I control one so Junos gains 200 ATK power!"

Royal Paladin - Swordsman of Light, Junos (4/ATK: 1600-1800/DEF: 900)

"Next I switch Flogal into ATK Mode." Tsubasa said, switching the pink dog's card into a vertical position as Flogal stood up and growled. "Alfred's effect activates! For every Royal Paladin monster I control, he gains 200 ATK for each. I control four other Royal Paladins, meaning the King of Knights gets an extra 800 ATK!" Alfred raised up the sword he held in his right hand as the other Royal Paladins raised their weapons or stood up as a blue aura flowed into the King of Knights. "Strength of Unity!"

Royal Paladin - King of Knights, Alfred (10/ATK: 4000-4800/DEF: 2500)

"Alright! Tsubasa has five monsters on his Field!" Yuya said with a grin.

The blue-haired teen smirked, "And the fun has only just begun! Now it's… Showtime!" He said before gesturing at one of Sawatari's monsters. "Battle! Junos attacks Power Darts Shooter!"

Thinking quickly, Sawatari broke into a run in order to find an Action Card of some sort, but grunted under his breath when he found that there was nothing nearby, leaving him with no way to contest Junos' attack.

The cocky-looking Royal Paladin took a leaping dash before bringing up his sword and slashing down, bifurcating Power Darts Shooter in half as it exploded after Junos returned to Tsubasa's side.

"Next up, Grawl attacks Rocket Darts Shooter!" Tsubasa ordered. The large armored warrior hefted his axe as he released a war cry then swung the weapon, cutting the red-armored machine from the waist. Sawatari gritted his teeth as another of his monsters was destroyed. The Royal Paladin duelist raised up his hand. "Here comes the finale! Say it with me now, everyone!"

Yuya, Yuzu, and the kids all joined in, shouting in unison with Tsubasa, "Battle! Alfred attacks Ultimate Darts Shooter! Royal Finish!"

The King of Knights gave his steed a light kick as the blue stallion reared up on its rear hind legs, releasing a fierce neigh before it took off towards the blue robot. Alfred crossed his swords together as his horse jumped then when it descended, he slashed down as his steed stopped behind Ultimate Darts Shooter, who now sported an x-shaped marking on its torso… before exploding in a brilliant blaze.

Tsubasa: 1600

Sawatari: 3200 - 200 - 1000 - 2400 = 0

WINNER: Tsubasa Sendou

The once-cocky duelist shielded his eyes from the flash, glaring at Tsubasa as the last of his Life Points trickled away. He continued to scowl even as the Action Field dispersed and the group all found themselves back in LDS' Center Court. The tower that once kept Yuzu and the kids imprisoned disappeared, allowing them to safely land on the ground.

"Yuzu! Guys!" Yuya called out as he approached his friends, frantically checking them to make sure they were okay. "Thank God… I was really worried."

"I won the Duel, Sawatari. Now give back those Pendulum Cards." Tsubasa told his defeated opponent.

Sawatari continued to stare holes through Tsubasa's head, but eventually, albeit begrudgingly, he held up his end of the deal, fishing the two cards out of his deck and flicking them towards Yuya without another word. The Entertainment Duelist caught them and smiled fondly at the cards.

"We're leaving. I better not see you again." Tsubasa told the thief and his goons.

Unfortunately, Sawatari didn't seem willing to part with them, "If getting them fairly won't work then I'll get them by force." He looked at his goons. "Get them! I want those cards!"

His trio of lackeys prepared to get physical with the You Show students, prompting Tsubasa, Yuya, and Yuzu to stand protectively in front of the kids. Luckily, a sky blue blur managed to stop them by knocking all three goons out. The assailant is revealed to be a boy, who looked a year or two younger than Yuya and Yuzu. He had light cyan hair that is tied up and spiked out. He wears a blue jacket with a yellow and orange trim over a black t-shirt. He also wears a pair of light gray cargo shorts over long white socks and brown shoes. He also had a lollipop in his mouth.

"Wha-?!" Sawatari managed to blurt out as he watched everything unfold in front of him, looking over to the young boy who had appeared out of virtually thin air.

"Hey, Sawatari!" He heard Tsubasa's voice before he was punched directly in the face, knocking the thieving boy out as the blue-haired teen flexed his hand in mild pain, "That's for putting my friends in danger."

"Thanks for the help." Yuya told the younger boy that helped them with the goons.

"No problem! And as thanks for letting me help you, I want to be your apprentice!" The boy told Yuya.

"EEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHH!?" Yuya exclaimed in shock.

"That imbecile! He had the Pendulum Cards and now he's lost them." A man in a suit with sunglasses cursed. "Get security. Do not let those kids escape."

"No." A commanding voice interjected, stopping the man. "We have enough data on the Pendulum Cards. Let them leave."

"Reiji-sama, are you sure?"

"Nakajima, tell me the readings of Tsubasa Sendou's Fusion Summon?" The voice, Reiji, inquired.

"It seems the readings are just as high as his Synchro Summoning. Whatever kind of cards they are, those Royal Paladins have far too much power."

"Wrong, it just means that he has potential." Reiji stated. "And with that kind of power under my control, the Lancers would be unstoppable."

A/N: And that shall be the end of the chapter. I hope you all enjoyed the Duel as well as the introduction of Alfred.

Speaking of which, a new co-writer of mine has edited and tweaked the Royal Paladins so expect to see their updated cards soon in future chapters.

In any case, there's also the introduction of a certain candy-loving spy from the Fusion Dimension with possibly the creepiest Deck of monsters I have ever seen in my life.

Pairings are still debatable or in the works so… help a brother out.

Review and comment on this chapter. Love it, hate it, but just know that you've read it.

Peace out, everyone!
