Note: I do not own the song or melody. I only own the very slight rewrites to make the song a better fit for Varian and Hugo.

Hugo appeared in front of the trio. "Give me the totems!" he said.

"Hugo, you don't wanna do this!" Varian cried.

Crossing the Line (Varian and Hugo Version) Lyrics

Varian: This has to stop now

Whatever it is you're going through

We can fix it together

Me and you

Just you wait and see

Hugo: No!

This has to stop now

This thing where you think

That you've been my friend

And don't even hear how you condescend

The way you've always done

Varian: Hugo, listen

Hugo: I'm listening

Varian: I know it isn't true

Hugo: Isn't it?

Varian: Just look into my eyes now

Hugo: Well?

Varian: I know you feel it too

Hugo: Perhaps I do

Varian: Hugo, listen

Hugo: I'm listening

Varian: I swear it's not too late

So before another line gets crossed

And everything we've had is lost

Just wait...

Hugo: Wait?

No, I won't wait

Varian (spoken): Hugo!

Hugo: There's a line between

The winners and the losers

There's a line between

The chosen and the rest

And I've done the best I could

But I've always known just where we stood

Me here with the luckless

You there with the blessed

And that line between

The beggars and the choosers

Is a line you've never let me quite ignore

How I've tried

To jump that great divide

But I never got the chances

You were given

You don't know

How much I've been denied

Well, I'm not being patient anymore

I'm crossing the line!

And I'm done holding back

So look out, clear the track

It's my turn!

I'm taking what's mine!

Every drop

Every smidge

If I'm burning a bridge

Let it burn!

But I'm crossing the line!

And if things are over

That's fine

Varian (spoken): Wait!

Hugo: I'm crossing the line

Hugo snatched the seven totems from Varian and Yong.

"What do you have for me, Princess?" Hugo said.

"Nothing! I swear!" Princess Nuru said.

"Good. 'Cause you don't have my heart," Hugo replied. "I'm gay."

Varian's heart sank. Was this all true? He had to find out. But of course it had to take its time – things had to run their course before he started again.
