Dani POV

I groaned as the sunlight infiltrated my curtains and blinded me. Checking my phone it was already 11am, the alcohol really had knocked me out for a good sleep. Turning over and wrapping the sheet around me tighter I snoozed for another half hour before braving the day ahead. I took a long, hot shower and as I did I recounted the events of last night. One night could have been a few weeks for all the developments that happened. I gave Santana's best friend/my new photographer a lap dance, I made out with Santana, I bared my heart to Santana, I held hands with Santana...and then left. At least now I was fairly confident I could consider us friends...or not enemies at least.

Standing in front of the door I felt my heart race. I glanced down at my outfit; converse, jeans, and a tee; casual yet acceptable I decided had been the way to go. My knuckles rapped against the wooden door as I waited for either Quinn or Santana to answer. Hopefully I wasn't waking either, it was 1 o'clock now, and surely they were both up. I could hear the lock turning and the chain coming off before the door swung open. Santana stood in the gap, dressed in stripy boxers and a tank. She didn't look embarrassed at all as she ruffled her hand through her hair and smiled goofily at being caught in her pj's.

"Dani," she said simply in greeting.

"Good morning...or afternoon...yeah it's afternoon," I responded. Damn why did this girl make me so nervous.

"I suppose I should actually invite you in this time," Santana replied. Her voice was so much nicer when it wasn't laced with contempt.

"It's okay, I actually just came to ask you something." Santana looked at me intrigued. Maybe I was pushing this friendship along too fast, but too late to overanalyze that now. "I was wondering if I could take you out tonight? Please," I added nervously.

"I don't know Dani...I appreciated what you had to say last night but I don't know that this is the best idea." I could sense the insecurity gripping at her as she battled with the idea.

"Just give me one chance," I told her. I really wanted to take her out. "One date. If you want to go home at any stage I'll bring you back, no questions asked."

She mulled it over, dramatizing the ordeal when she picked up on how anxious she was making me. Cheeky.

"Alright. One date." I'm sure there had been a battle between her head and her heart and I'm glad the one that said yes had won out.

"Great. I'll be back to pick you up in five hours. I've got a date to plan," I told her, the largest smile plastered across my face.

Santana POV

I watched on with curiosity as Dani skipped away and left me standing practically in the hallway in my pj's. Shutting the door and going back to my room I couldn't help but let a smile creep up my face at the prospect of finally going on another date, and a date with a crazy, but adorable, girl like Dani. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad getting out there again...

Hours later I decided it was definitely that bad getting out there again. I was standing in front of the mirror, fussing over my outfit. My little pep talk to myself had gone out the window. I was still freaking out when there was a knock on the door.

"TWO MINUTES!" I yelled out, hoping Dani could hear me. It would be polite to go and have her wait inside but I wasn't ready for her to see me yet. Not knowing where we were going tonight I was wearing some relaxed jeans with a button up shirt, sleeves rolled up and buttons down to create a nice v-neck. I threw on some black boots and some jewelry to complete the look before rushing to the door.

"Is what I'm wearing okay?" Those were the first words to fall from my mouth; no 'hello', no 'oh you look nice'.

"Perfect," Dani answered, not discouraged. "Although I was hoping for a second viewing of those cute boxers."

Her cute smile melted me a little inside, and I'm sure if my skin weren't so dark there would be a faint blush rising up my cheeks. Deciding we were both ready (at least physically) for our date we left the apartment and started our walk down the streets. I begged Dani to tell me what we were doing but she said that would spoil all the fun of taking a pretty girl out. I could sense the stares of a few passers-by but Dani didn't seem to let it bother her so I chose not to as well. Besides, it's not like we were holding hands or all over each other so there really wasn't anything juicy to take notice of.

"Umm not that I don't love pizza, cause I do Dani, but please explain how this took you a number of hours to plan," I said, cheekily poking her stomach. Somehow I'd subconsciously relaxed greatly in her presence and found myself really enjoying the evening.

"Patience is a virtue Santana, not that I've witnessed you having much of it." I scoffed in reply. "This is the pit stop. Pick your favorite, anything you want, and we're getting it to go."

We ended up buying two pizzas, as I couldn't quite decide, everything looked so delicious. Dani cradled the pizzas between her right arm and her waist, leaving the left free to take a hold of my hand. She was looking to gauge my reaction at the gesture and I smiled sheepishly at her. I did like the sparks her touch sent through me. Smiling back at me Dani led me down two more streets before coming to a halt in front of two large cast iron gates.

"Would you mind holding these for a sec," she asked me gesturing to the pizza. I gladly obliged and watched on as she dug around in her pocket for a set of keys. Surprisingly she had one to fit the massive gates and they opened up with a noisy creak. "After you," she told me chivalrously.

I cautiously wandered in, unsure of what I'd find. The further I walked the more beautiful the scene became. It was the private gardens of an apartment complex, but had been decorated beautifully. There were fairy lights strewn through the trees, a picnic rug laid out, and oddly, a sheet draped across the brick wall.

"This is what took the majority of my afternoon," Dani commented. "And trying to convince my neighbors to avoid the area for the night, but when I told them it was all for a beautiful girl they seemed more willing. I wasn't sure what you'd be up for. Last night you seemed pretty hesitant about dating so I thought we could do something simple like watch a movie."

I was momentarily speechless. This girl, who I'd only ridiculed for the past few days, went to all this effort for me? She thought about what I'd wanted? She was definitely in a whole other league to Lauren.

"It's perfect," I finally said. Her eyes found mine and I'm sure she could see the sparkle and gratitude in mine.

When Dani had set up the projector the hanging sheet made sense to me. We were at our own private outdoor cinema, pretty impressive. We ate our mouth-watering pizza as we watched some 1980's film. Not that I could pay much attention, thoughts were buzzing around my head and every time I'd think of something to say to Dani it seemed too silly and I'd just shove more pizza into my mouth instead. As the movie credits started rolling I told Dani what a great time I'd had, and it was the truth, it had been the best first date I'd been on. Despite the fact we were already at Dani's apartment complex she insisted she walk me home.

This time I took the leap to intertwine our fingers, continuing walking as if it were no big deal, even though to me it was. We arrived at my door about fifteen minutes later and I think I surprised us both by not wanting the night to end.

"Does that mean a date with me wasn't so horrible after all?" Dani joked.

"It was pretty tough..." I jested. "It was wonderful Dani."

"...and I can call you?"

"I'd like that." Hearing this Dani's smile grew, and I found mine mirroring hers. I don't know how many seconds passed where we just stood there smiling at each other.

"Goodnight Santana."

"Goodnight."
