Darkness on the Edge of Town

It's been a few days since we took down the nanobots and stopped that robber. I remember that when we got back to the lair, Splinter sensed that I was distressed and so I told him about what happened and my emotional reaction to it all. He managed to help me accept what happened and to move on knowing that there would've been nothing I can do about it.

Afterwards, I was able to be my normal self and the guys decided to try and get me into some kind of extreme sports. I found that I was in my element with the roller skates and so I had my own pair that were coloured gold and beige since they're my favourite colours.

And today we were participating in extreme sports in the sewers and in the lair. Seriously, roller skating is just so fun. There's a rush with zooming through an environment at a quick speed and it can be thrilling in every way.

I was speeding alongside Donna and Leo. Donna was on a bike and Leo was on a scooter. Mikey and Raph were ahead of us. Mikey had a skateboard and Raph was roller skating as well.

We had just now entered the lair and Donna rode right to a ramp and was launched into the air.

"Going for amplitude!" She proclaimed and then landed on both wheels.

Leo went to the same ramp and launched right at a table and grinded on it before going back on the ground.

"Going for grinditude!" He proclaimed. Okay, time to one up them. I launched off the ramp and flipped multiple times and landed perfectly and sped to Donna who was heading in my direction.

"Going for fliptitude!" I proclaimed proudly and high fived/threed with her.

We kept having our fun and then I saw Splinter coming out of the kitchen with a tray that had his tea and biscuits on. It must be time for his soap opera.

When he reached the living area, the guys all dodged him and Mikey decided to snag one of the biscuits. I then realised that I was heading right to him and so with great strength, I jumped over him.

"Sorry, sensei!" I apologized and continued speeding through the lair with the guys.

"EXTREME GREEN!" We all cheered. Of course, I didn't have green skin, but we didn't care since I'm a part of the family.

However, all of the electricity went off and we all crashed into one another. I myself am now on top of one of them, but I realised that it was Donna because I can feel two particular bumps on her chest through her plastron, of course, these are her breasts. I felt extremely awkward and I blushed because of this.

"Nice wiring job, Donna!" Mikey complained.

"I guarantee it's not my wiring, Patrick?" Donna said, doing a good job of hiding her embarrassment.

"Definitely not me, I triple check everything I do. It's most likely a blackout." I argued back, getting off of her.

"Maybe, now whoever's foot is on my shell, get off." Mikey told whoever was on him.

Splinter struck a match and lit a candle that made a dim light. I saw Donna right in front of me and she blushed, looking away, as I did and the rest of the guys were together.

"Uh! Keep that flame away from Mikey. He scarfed down a whole chili pizza for dinner." Leo lightheartedly warned Splinter. Now, my homemade pizzas are to die for and Mikey explicitly requested I make a chili pizza for him. I obliged of course.

"Clearly there is a power failure. I suggest you investigate and see if it can be fixed." Splinter ordered us as we got up on our feet.

"We're all over it." Mikey told him and grabbed his skateboard and jogged away. Me and Raph sheathed our roller skates (which was a feature Donna added to them), Leo folded up his scooter and hooked it to his belt and Donna folded up her bike and put it on her back and we all jogged to our way out of the lair.

"And hurry up! I do not wish to miss my favourite programme." Splinter said as we made our way out.

Once we reached topside, it was chillingly quiet and dark, making the place look like a ghost town. We reached up to the roofs and got on top of a water tower to look around and get a high enough vantage point.

"You know, I don't think Splinter meant we should investigate this far." Leo commented.

"You can never be too thorough, especially when it comes to topside time." Raph told him. Looking out to the city, it was all pitch black on street level with the buildings being outlined. Something's going on here.

"This whole side of town is dark. A substation must have gone out." Donna pointed out. Well, if that's the case, then where's the emergency lights?

"This isn't right. Shouldn't there be some emergency lights or something?" Leo verbally expressed what I just thought of.

"Yeah. It's totally dark down there." Raph added. There has to be a reason for this.

"It's as though whoever's behind this wants to make sure it's blacked out." I brought up.

"Which means, there's only one thing for us to do." Mikey eagerly said. I think I know what it is.

And I was right because we reached the front of a building where there are railings and we all rode our extreme sports gear. I was roller skating absentmindedly just thinking about what would the reason be for a blackout when I stopped right next to Leo.

"Guys! You really think we should be doing this? What if somebody sees us?" Leo questioned Raph and Mikey. Donna was off somewhere else.

"That's the beauty of it, Leo. No one can see us, it's pitch black." Raph calmed him down.

"Get with the program, bro. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to session some surface terrain." Mikey stated. Donna all of a sudden sped right up to us and stopped. I saw that her face was full of concern.

"Hey, check this out." She said, pointing in a direction. We looked and my eyes widened because we saw two ninjas climbing up the side of the building with a rope. And what makes this more interesting is that they're the same kind of ninjas we fought against when I first met the guys. We knelt down by some hedges to avoid being seen by them as they reached the roof.

"Didn't we fight these clowns once before?" Mikey asked, remembering that fight. I remember when one of them kicked Donna which made me angry.

"Yeah, and we nearly got waxed." Donna said.

"Who's up for some payback?" Raph asked us all as he stood up and twirled his sais.

We all agreed and followed the ninjas into the building. Looking around, this place is a museum, and one full of Feudal Japanese artefacts. We entered and saw the two ninjas by a display of a sword in a glass case. They cut through the glass and one of them put on some kind of metal gauntlet. He was about to grab it until I threw a shuriken at the wooden frame to stop him.

"Gift shop's on the first floor boys, but they don't take kindly to shoplifters. And neither do we." Leo warned them. One pulled their katana out and the one with the gauntlet tried to grab the sword again but I threw another shuriken to stop him.

"Now before you try to make off with the goods, you might want to consider a few things. One, you're outnumbered. Two, don't let the pretty faces fool you, we're tougher than we look." Raph warned them as well. But then some more of them came out of nowhere, surrounding us.

"And three, we're about to get our butts seriously hammered." Mikey added in worry as we all got ready to fight them again.

One that had a staff made the first move and attacked Leo, who used his katanas to slice the staff in half. But that wasn't effective because two blades came out of the halves. Leo turned around as the ninja started to swing at him, causing the blades to hit his shell and they shattered off and he elbowed the ninja, making him fly into another.

"Whoo! Saved by the shell." Leo commented.

I roller skated to a wall and then I pulled my tonfas out. Then I kicked off the wall and sped past ninjas, hitting them hard in the stomach, legs or shoulders, more than likely cracking some bones.

"Never mess with speeding metal." I remarked.

"Check it out! Blades and blades." Raph said as he spun on the spot on his roller skates and with his sais out. A ninja with a katana tried to strike him when they charged at each other but Raph flipped over while the ninja sliced an antique vase. Disrespectful goon.

"You break it, pal, you bought it." Raph mocked him and sped off with the ninja chasing him.

"And speaking of buying it." Raph muttered as I sped to him and we both kicked him right at a gong.

Donna was now facing one with a spear and she got on her bike and rammed into him, making him fly into a set of samurai armour.

"Alley Oop." She exclaimed. And then another was running up to her with sais and she pulled her staff out and pointed it at the ninja like a medieval knight.

"Charge!" She proclaimed and hit him and he crashed right into a vase.

Mikey was on his skateboard and was heading right into a bunch of these ninjas.

"Whoo hoo! Bowling for ninjas!" He remarked as he rammed into one and he fell into two others.

He then spun his nunchucks until a ninja got hold of him with a chain.

"Heads up!" Mikey warned him and he launched his skateboard into his stomach.

"Way to pick up that spare. And a trophy to boot." Mikey said, pulling the symbol off of the ninja.

"A little help here!" Leo asked us all and he was having his hands full. We all made our way to him.

"We're on it!" We all said in unison. But as we were making our way to him, the ninjas Leo was fighting flipped away. I managed to stop but the others didn't as they crashed into him.

"Oh. I sense a teamwork training session in our future." Mikey said. I helped them up on their feet.

"Double time! They're getting away!" Leo stated and we watched them all run away except for one who had that metal gauntlet on and grabbed the sword he was trying to get.

"Just put the sword back, sparky. We'll call it a draw." Raph warned him as we surrounded him. But to our surprise the sword was emitting some kind of glow and was building up energy until it sent a shockwave right at us and we got thrown back at a wall, which hurt like shell.

Then that ninja got away!

"How about best two out of three?" Mikey questioned as we got back up on our feet and put away our weapons.

"What was that sword?" Donna groaned as I helped her up.

"Hold that thought. We gotta book." Leo said and so we got out of there, ninja style.

Once we made it back to the lair, we explained to Splinter about what happened and even showed him the symbol Mikey grabbed. As I looked at it. It was a 3 toed foot. And for the strangest reason, I feel like I've seen it before, but I don't know from when or where.

"What does this symbol mean Master Splinter?" Leo asked him.

"Trouble." He said. He sounded as though he's experienced these ninjas before. What is he not telling us?

"You know something about these ninjas? Where do they come from? Who do they work for?" Raph asked as Splinter was walking to his room.

"And what do they want with a magic sword?" Mikey then asked him.

"Nope. Not magic. Probably more like a self perpetuating oscillation frequency generator." Donna shot the idea down with a scientific explanation. Of course, she doesn't believe in magic, though it actually exists since I've seen it with my own eyes.

"Um, in english, Einstein?" Mikey requested since he and the others don't understand, but I do.

"She said it packs a shockwave that'll knock you flat on your shell." I translated her words to them.

"We got to go after these creeps." Raph suggested with his sais out.

"No. A wise ninja does not seek out an enemy he does not fully understand." Splinter said, shattering that plan down. But I agreed with him since we hardly know anything about them and for all we know, they could be well equipped with weapons and other tricks up their sleeves.

"But, sensei, Bushido demands that we fight for honour and justice and-" Leo was going to explain but….

"Bushido also demands that you honour your master's wishes! I will meditate upon this matter further. Good night." Splinter firmly talked us down as he entered his room and closed the glass door.

"Ohh. Undergrounded again." Mikey groaned. Donna looked like she was thinking as she had her hand on her chin.

"Hey." She then said, snapping her fingers and then headed right to her computer on her desk.

"Where are you going, brainiac?" Raph asked as we all followed her.

"There's more than one way to seek out your enemy." She said, typing on her computer. That's smart, I'll give her that.

As she was busy trying to learn more about these ninjas, we were all killing time in our own ways. Mikey was reading a comic and eating some potato chips, Leo was performing some katas, Raph was working out on a practice dummy and I am making notes for the space opera series I'm developing. This went on all the way to the next day.

"What's up with the big cheese? He's been zoning in there all day." Mikey questioned from the couch.

"It's that ninja symbol. It's got sensei all weirded out." Leo answered. Yeah….

"More like he knows what it is but ain't telling us anything." I added my opinion.

"Enough of this waiting around. I say we head topside, kick ninja butt, take ninja names and find out the whole ninja story for ourselves." Raph snarled before yelling and kicking the dummy's head clean off, making it land in Mikey's potato chips.

"Whoa, remind me never to get on your bad side, dude." Mikey said, slightly concerned as Raph was heading for the exit.

"Too late." Raph said right before Leo stopped in front of him. By this point, I finished with the notes.

"Hang on, Raph. No one's going anywhere." Leo told him off.

"Guys, check this out!" Donna called out to us. We all made our way to her. She must've found something out.

"I hacked into the power company's computer system. Looks like there's another blackout down by the South Street Seaport." She then revealed. Hmm… another blackout. It's them ninja's again, for sure.

"I smell a rat. And I don't mean Splinter." Raph said and decided to head out.

"Hang on, guys. Splinter told us-"

"Not to go after the ninjas, he didn't say anything about not investigating power failures." Raph reminded him. Oh!

"He's right, Leo. How you word things means everything." I gave some sly wisdom as I joined up with the others, with Donna carrying a bag.

"Excellent. I have a few new surveillance toys I want to test." Donna said as well exited the lair.

"Wait up!" We heard Leo call out to us, catching up.

We all went topside and headed towards the port and felt that climbing the bridge nearby would give us a good vantage point, thankfully I conquered my fear of heights when I was younger as we reached the top of the bridge. And as we looked out at the city, it was completely blacked out. The only light was from the moon.

"Total blackout. Just like last night." Raph said as Donna went through her bag.

"But this time I came prepared." Donna said, pulling out some goggles. I grabbed them before Mikey could and put them on to see that they were night vision goggles.

"Nice, Donna. With these, we'd be able to see more clearly." I told her, handing the goggles back and she put them on.

"Thanks." She accepted his words.

"How do we survey such a large area?" Leo asked, realising that she only brought one pair.

"I came prepared for that too." She simply said before tugging on something, making a hang glider form around her. Where did that come from?!

"I've been dying to try this puppy." Donna said. Wait, she hasn't flown it before?!

"You haven't tested it yet?!" I asked, concerned for her wellbeing.

"Dude, how's she supposed to test a flying machine in the sewers?" Mikey questioned. Okay, fair point, but I'm still worried for her safety.

"We'll stay in touch via Shell Cell. I've worked out all the theoretical aerodynamics." She explained, with Leo's Shell Cell beeping. Donna then ran towards the edge.

"It's practically foolPROOF! WHOA-HAH-OH!" She yelled as she flew over the river. I watched in worry.

"But is it Donna-proof?" Raph asked in pure sarcasm.

"Donna? Donna?!" Leo called her name through his Shell Cell as she glided past the bridge.

"I'm okay. No problem." She replied just before she moved away from the bridge to avoid getting hit.

"Just forgot to compensate for the wind drag on my bo staff." She then explained. *sighs* Classic Donna.

"Guys, I'm picking up something strange down on the river." Donna then informed us.

"What is it?" Leo asked.

"It looks like they're searching for something under the water." She replied.

"And who's searching?" I asked.

"It's our ninja buddies again. They have that sword they stole rigged up to some kind of vibrational cannon." Donna told us. Just what are they doing?

"I'm over Pier 16." She then told us where she currently was.

"We're there." Leo informed as we ran down the bridge towards the pier.

"I'm going in for a closer LOOOOO-AAAHHH!" She suddenly screamed. We were close to the pier and saw the cannon when this happened.

"Donna?! DONNA!" I yelled in fear as we saw her plummeting to the water.

"Mayday! Mayday! I'm going down!" Donna cried as we ran as fast as we could to the pier and then she sank into the river. NO!

"Donna! Can you hear me?! Say something, sis!" Leo said through his Shell Cell but she didn't respond. I was being frantic. My breaths were quick and erratic and I was just scared for her wellbeing.

"Man, that water stinks. And this is from a turtle who lives in the sewers." Donna finally said, commenting on the water. I let out a huge sigh of relief. The guys pumped their fists, exclaiming 'yes'.

Now that we know she's okay, we ran further down the port, past some old ships and then we got a clear view of the cannon.

"I have a visual on the cannon. I only see two guys, but that just means the others are hiding." Leo said. And his assumption was right because some of the ninjas jumped out of nowhere, surrounding us.

"I hate it when he's right." Mikey noted.

"Let's turtleize 'em!" We all proclaimed, wielding our weapons and then we split up, taking on multiple ninjas at once. I was facing four of them. I had to keep moving so that they didn't get an advantage. One of them swung a katana at me but I parried it away from me and managed to make him stab one of his fellow ninja in the shoulder, making him grunt in pain. I then jumped onto the ship next to us and they followed me onboard but I kicked one of them in the chest, making him tumble over the edge and fall into the river.

"Come on! You're not even trying!" I mocked them but then one of them knocked one of my tonfas out of my hand and I dodged some swings from nunchucks and katanas from the two remaining ninja I'm facing.

In the corner of my eye, I saw a helicopter hover over where the cannon was firing and it grabbed something out of the river.

Then just as I jump back, Donna popped up and took down one of the ninjas easily and then shoved her staff into the other's stomach, making him stumble back at a boat and then I kicked him into the boat as Donna slammed her staff into another ninja's foot and knocked him off his feet before throwing him into the boat. Then I lowered the boat into the water.

With that done, I hugged Donna, just glad to see she's okay.

"You had me worried there for a second." I told her as she hugged me back.

"Sorry. I'll make sure to be more careful next time." Donna replied. Then we heard someone clearing their throat. We turned to see the guys looking at us with smirks and so we parted and Leo handed me my other tonfa.

"I think this teamwork effort gets a 'most improved'." Leo commented.

"School's not out yet. And that's one cool as shell chopper." Donna pointed to the chopper, which lifted whatever it was looking for out.

"What's up with Barnacle Bill?" Mikey questioned.

"Whatever it is, it can't be good." Raph stated as the chopper flew off.

We all ran off the ship and headed right towards the cannon which deactivated. We then climbed up the scaffolding.

"Now boys, there's a small matter of some stolen property we need to discuss." Leo told the two techies, one of which held that gauntlet the ninja from before wore to hold the sword. They gasped upon seeing Leo and tried to run off but Donna stopped them.

"Dudes, you really shouldn't be playing with such dangerous toys." She scolded them. Then Raph popped up, scaring them off, then Mikey stopped them as he and I popped up.

"Not only that, but you're on our naughty list, and that means you'll get a butt whooping." I mocked. Then one of the techies grabbed a hold of something and aimed it at me and Mikey, firing some kind of beam.

"Look out!" I warned him as we ducked. Leo then kicked him, making the beam hit the controls for the cannon. This then caused the scaffolding to shake. The techies were talking and I saw a chopper flying this way and they got onboard.

"They're getting away!" Raph barked as we climbed up and saw the chopper fly away. The cannon was still acting up and then it activated and turned towards the port.

"I think we got bigger problems." Donna noted as the beam from the cannon starts making destruction.

"Talk about bad vibes." Mikey commented.

"Not funny, Mike." Raph told him.

"Donna, Patrick, can you shut it down?" Leo asked us as we climbed up on top of the cannon.

"Well, we might be able to disconnect the sword from the accelerator, but crossing the power terminator could result in a feedback loop, but might-" Donna started to explain as me and her opened the cannon up.

"Donna! Now ain't the time! You guys try to point this thing away from civilization." I blurted out, focusing on the task at hand. The guys then tried to push the cannon as hard as possible yet it wouldn't budge as me and Donna tried to stop this thing.

"This is the police! You on the pier, stop where you are!" A police officer ordered us from a chopper that was heading right to us. Great, just what we need, more pressure.

"Hurry up, guys, before we end up on America's Most Wanted Reptiles and Boys." Raph told us.

"We know!" I snapped at him.

"Almost there." Donna strained as she grabbed a couple of wires to attach together but that caused the thing to spin out of control. It spun so fast that it threw me and Donna off.

"We gotta steady this thing." Leo stated. I looked over and saw the crowbar Donna used and so I grabbed it, got up close to the cannon and shoved it in to hold it in place, pointing out at the river. Then I grabbed the gauntlet and put it on before grabbing the sword, thinking that if I tried to grab it with my bare hands, it would shock me. I managed to pull it out of the cannon with ease, but it caused the thing to start overloading, about to explode.

"Let's get out of here!" Donna yelled and so we all jumped off the scaffolding and ran as far as possible as it fell into the river and made an explosion of water.

"Whoa. Awesome light show." Mikey said. We then heard the police chopper and remembered that it was still there.

"And speaking of light shows." Leo said and we ran away from the port.

Without difficulty, we made it back home in the lair and showed the sword to Splinter, who examined it closely while holding it with the gauntlet.

"The design is unmistakably 11th century Japanese, but the metal is unlike any I have ever seen. Clearly there is more to this sword than meets the eye." Splinter noted as he walked to a stand where he placed the sword.

"Best that it remained out of the wrong hands." He then said and with that, we all went off to our rooms to go to sleep.

I had just changed into my pyjamas and laid in bed when I was thinking back to how I acted when Donna was in trouble. I was seriously concerned for her and yet, it was more than I would be if it were the guys. I was so confused that I looked back on how I acted whenever she was in trouble or got hurt. I then looked back on how I acted around her and-

Oh God…. I can't believe it…. Why haven't I known from the start. It explains why the guys and Splinter would smirk at me, why I was desperate to have my room next to hers and why I hanged out with her as much as possible.

I'm in love with Donatella.

Donna's POV

I was about to go to sleep when I remembered how freaked out Patrick was when I got caught up in that beam and fell into the river. He seemed genuinely scared for my life and when he hugged me, I felt wanted and loved. And then I looked back at whenever I've hanged out with him and we'd talk or work together on something.

Oh, shell... I think I'm love with Patrick.
