Best Kind of Surprises

Chapter 6

Andrea choose a soft green paint, and Mike painted the bedroom. They also went shopping and bought all the necessary furniture. Mike put the cribs together and helped Andrea with getting the room ready. She was barely showing, but they had everything ready. The weeks ticked by quickly and Mike went to everyone of Andrea's appointments. He seemed almost fascinated by the entire experience.

He was trying to retire, but Reiss kept coming up with excuses. Finally, Mike just told him he was done after his commission came up. It was a slow process, but Mike was finally done. Andrea would afraid he would be too restless, but he seemed to have adjusted to retired life a lot easier then Andrea had. She had a garage she didn't use, so he turned that into an art studio for her, complete with windows and everything. It quickly become Andrea's space and Mike also did some work on her backyard and pool area. That all put them to the point of finding out the baby's genders, something they were both excited for. It was also time for Andrea's amniocentesis. Something she was not looking forward to. At her follow up appointment, Dr. Spellman walked in and gave them both a big smile.

"First of all, both babies seem completely fine. Amnio showed nothing of any significance. Now, would you like to know the genders? Younger couples do a whole thing with gender reveals and all that." Dr. Spellman asked.

"We're both too practical for that." Mike answered and Andrea nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, just tell us." Andrea said.

"Alright; Baby A is a little bigger than Baby B. A is a boy and Baby B is a baby girl, just as you wanted." Dr. Spellman explained. Mike and Andrea exchanged a look and Andrea gave Mike a kiss.

"We can start buying clothes." Andrea said.

"You can start buying all sorts of things." Dr. Spellman remarked.

"Oh, the nursery is already done. We did gender neutral." Mike said with a laugh.

"Well, its good to be prepared. Keep doing what you're doing. Everything is going really well." Dr. Spellman said as she stood up, telling them the appointment was coming to an end.

Andrea made her next appointment while Mike brought her new purchased SUV around. They went to lunch and then Mike insisted on going to a baby store. There, they bought onesies, sleepers, all kinds of little outfits and baby accessories. They would still need more at some point, but the babies would be well equipped when they did arrive. All that was really left to was pick out names and wait.
