| Chapter 6 |
15th August 1983; Black Ancestral Castle – Head's wing; Harry's room.
It was in the middle of the night when Azalea opened her eyes with a start. The last vestiges of sleep disappearing as her mind registered it was a nightmare. Her heaving breath calmed down as she noticed the precious boy wrapped within her arms cozily snuggled and in a deep sleep. She looked down at the mop of black hair which held the typical unruliness of a Potter male. She smiled softly as she slowly separated herself from her nephew, very careful to not wake him up. She tugged the duvet over him properly before standing up from the bed, her feet feeling the soft rug beneath. She slowly opened the bedroom door as she silently crept out making sure to lock the door behind her.
Meanwhile, Sirius had also woken up with a muffled sob as he was plagued by a very familiar night in his dreams. He had tried to calm himself down but the silver and black walls had felt constricting and similar to that of Azkaban walls. He felt a panic rise within, his eyes blurring a bit. He stumbled across his room and opened the door to his foyer. A soft breath escaped from his mouth as his vision cleared. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down but the walls of his master suit still felt very suffocating. He needed open space for a while. Perhaps, walking around the gardens would help.
He opened his door, only to notice Azalea coming out of Harry's room. All of them had decided to take turns to sleep with him till he becomes comfortable to sleep in his own room. She wore a comfortable grey pyjama pants and a loose white top. Her dark red hair was secured in a tight braid which fell till her waist.
Sirius called her when she did not sense his presence, "Azalea?"
She immediately turned around with a hand on her heart as a soft gasp left her lips. Her sapphire eyes met startling grey, as she noticed Sirius standing before her wearing silk blue pajamas and a black silk robe over it. The tattoos of his chest were very visible in the low light of the hallway.
Sirius smirked at the reaction, very amused at the startled gasp she gave.
Azalea exhaled a breath, "Please don't startle me like that."
Sirius nodded at the request, "Going somewhere?"
"Yes, I just wanted to walk around a bit."
Sirius gestured down the stairs, "Come then. I was about to go for a walk in the gardens as well."
Azalea shrugged following him down the spiral staircase.
She stopped at the bottom of the staircase, "Sirius!"
Sirius turned back from where he was opening the main door, "Yes?"
"Can you show me the Kitchen please?"
Sirius blinked, "Kitchen? Right now?"'
Azalea nodded, "Yea, felt like having some coffee."
"Alright, follow me then. I had no idea that you can cook."
Azalea murmured, "It's therapeutic."
Sirius raised an eyebrow in surprise. He led her down a side hallway which had three doors. The dead end of the hallway had an alcove with a French window and a seating area as well. It can fit two people easily whether they want to sit or stand. Azalea's eyes roamed over the beautiful carved murals decorating each door.
Sirius glanced at Azalea, "We are here."
Azalea's eyes snapped to his own, giving a small dip of her head in acknowledgement. Sirius held the first door in the hallway open, gesturing her to get inside. Azalea gave a small smile before entering the Kitchen.
The kitchen was a huge room with a small chandelier hanging from the middle. Its black granite counter tops with various cabinets created a beautiful and elegant look. The thing that she loved the most was the airy look it held with white walls and ceilings. The floor was the same wooden as the entire wing. It had four to five windows all overlooking the garden. There was a small table with five chairs, if someone wanted to eat in the Kitchen itself. A fireplace was also burning with a magical white fire. She gasped slightly as she looked around to notice an extended outdoor kitchen as well.
"Like it?" asked Sirius, a small smile on his face at the awe she displayed.
"Yes. It is beautiful." answered Azalea still looking around with appreciative eyes.
She went forward to open a few cabinets, easily figuring out what was kept where. She looked at Sirius, noticing he sat at the breakfast counter. She asked softly as she took out the milk, "Want one?"
Sirius replied softly, "Sure. I prefer black coffee."
Azalea nodded as she continued to pour the milk on a small pan making sure to keep the heat high. Sirius said, "Mind if I ask something?"
"Sure." she replied not taking her eyes from the two types of coffee she was making simultaneously.
"Why are you up at this time?" he glanced at the Kitchen wall clock, "It is two, now."
"The same reason you are up, I belief." answered Azalea, her voice subdued.
Sirius did not reply back. His eyes held a faraway look.
"I miss them." He whispered softly, trying to keep the overwhelming grief at bay, "That night was horrible, Azalea. I still remember the broken furniture and the charred walls."
Azalea gulped, blinking her tears away but she did not interrupt him.
"He was just lying there. His eyes were vacant and had no spark." he continued, "Those hazel eyes always had a sparkle in them, so full of life. Then when I went upstairs, I saw her. She had fallen right in front of pup's crib." Sirius mumbled, "Even in death, her red hair was as vibrant as it was before. I have never seen those green eyes so dead though. Harry, my pup, he was crying so loudly as if he knew something had happened."
Azalea kept the two coffee mugs on the breakfast counter. Her hands did not shake but there were tears in her eyes.
Sirius's grey eyes met her own sapphires, "I miss them a lot."
"I miss her too. I never knew James but I would have loved to get to know him more." she said quietly.
She took a seat beside Sirius as he turned to face her. His tears slipped from his eyes, as he reached out to take her hands in his. She squeezed his hands back hoping it provided some measure of comfort.
"Harry is the last link to them Sirius. They would want us to take care of him than wallowing in grief." said Azalea, murmuring softly.
"Yeah, you are correct." He whispered back, before leaving her hands to wipe the tears that have fallen.
"We are also the last link to his parents for him." she said, her eyes soft and thoughtful.
"Yes, I guess. I hope Harry gets well soon. I can't see him hurt at all."
"He will be well soon. But I think you need to think of yourself as well Sirius." said Azalea, trying to divert the topic. She handed him his black coffee, sipping on her own as they conversed.
"I will be fine soon as well. Though, I think I need to deal with those mind healers again." He said grimacing.
Azalea quirked a smile at that, happy he was slowly but surely coming out of the grief filled talks.
Both finished their coffees soon. Sirius spoke up, "Will you go back to sleep now?"
"I am not sleepy yet." answered Azalea, turning around after she kept the mugs back in their places.
Sirius held his hand out, gesturing her to take it. Azalea placed her hand on his, her eyes curious.
"Let's go on a tour. I showed Remus and Harry when you went to work." said Sirius.
"Okay. I have nothing better to do."
Sirius showed her the sun-room beside the Kitchen. It was a large room overlooking a lake at a slight distance. Azalea's eyes took over the stately room. It had the same wooden floor which she had noticed throughout this wing. One of the walls had beautifully painted murals of various leaves and flowers which looked lifelike. Rest of the walls were completely made of glass with peach coloured curtains hanging at the sides. She crept forward to check them. Her hand brushed against the wall, making her eyes widen. She swiftly turned around to question Sirius who was watching her while sitting on one of the camel-back couches with wooden carvings.
"Runes?" she asked.
"Yes. Those are minutely carved Runes. Protection is a priority for us." said Sirius smirking.
"Impressive! Such minute carving is rarely seen. I saw them only once in Wixen Africa. One of the tribal communities there specialized in such minute crafts." she said softly, running her fingers over the runes.
"Grandfather had it brought from Wixen Africa." He said as he got up from his seat.
"It must be from the same communities' then." she stated.
"Come on; let's check out the next room." He said as he led her out of the room.
Azalea followed him to the only other door she hasn't seen yet in this hallway.
"It used to be a play room before. I was thinking when Harry get's older he could use this room however he likes. He definitely liked it when I showed it to him." said Sirius, opening the door.
Azalea poked her head rather than going inside. It was simple room with ceiling to floor windows at one side which opened in the backside of the garden with rich golden brown coloured walls. There was no furniture.
"It is nice. What did he say he will do with this?" she asked with a smile.
Sirius shrugged a dark look in his eyes, "Pup seemed overwhelmed, so I didn't ask."
"We really need to visit Petunia." she looked at him, "I still don't understand her changed behaviour."
"Was she nice before?" asked Sirius surprised as they walked back to the living room, "Lily said she was a jealous bitch."
"I never stayed with her for long. Grandfather had taken me out of my parent's house way before Lily went to Hogwarts. Lily and Petunia were close when they were small as far as I know." said Azalea.
"Why?" asked Sirius with a curious voice. On seeing her hesitance he added, "It is fine if you don't want to tell."
"No it's fine." Azalea shook her head slightly, "It's just that I don't have pleasant memories of my parents."
"Oh."
Sirius did not probe any further. He knew it would be an uncomfortable topic to discuss, especially in the middle of the night. They reached the main living room.
"You already know the way to the dueling room in the basement. Right beside it is the Ritual room and Potion lab. The dueling and ritual room can only be opened by a Black." Sirius said as opened the door in the living room which led them to the outside, gesturing her to come along. She followed coming out in the open. A marble colonnade connected this wing of the castle to the center body. She looked up to find the ceiling of said colonnade consisted of a glass roof. She looked to her right to see the circular inner courtyard which had a beautiful marble fountain with figurines of various birds in flight. The moonlight bounced of those waters, creating a mesmerizing view. Small bushes of roses were planted to give some greenery within the courtyard.
"Beautiful, isn't it?" said Sirius, looking at it as well.
"Yes. Whose idea was this?" asked Azalea.
"Grandfather's actually. It was his fifth anniversary gift to Grandmother Melania. He created the inner courtyard, as Grandmother complained of having to walk to the garden to get some fresh air."
"What an extravagant gift!"
"We Blacks don't do things by half, my lady!" said Sirius, winking.
"Very funny!" she said, hiding a smile.
"What of the patio which leads to the back garden?"Azalea asked as they turned around to head towards the main building of the castle.
"That was my idea. It wasn't there before." answered Sirius, as he pointed out, "Those two are the left and the right wing of the castle. The walls of the colonnade connected all four parts of the castle. The Head's wing is right behind the Main wing. The left wing consists of the Head's private office, a sitting room, a sun-room, a living room, a war room, the main library as well as an entire armory filled with weapons which is connected with the dueling room you used before. The right wing consists of a sitting room and various bedrooms with connected bathrooms for visiting family members as well as a sun-room. It is also equipped with a dining room as well as a kitchen and a play room in case there are children present."
"Why are we staying in the Head's wing then? I mean, when your family members arrive, will they not question it?" asked Azalea, a slight frown on her face.
"I won't let them stay in the first place. Though the Head's wing is meant for the Head's immediate family but it largely depends upon the Head himself." explained Sirius patiently.
"That is very interesting. Is there a history behind this place?" said Azalea, looking at him inquisitively.
Sirius looked at her amused making Azalea raise her eyebrows, "What?"
"You are definitely a Ravenclaw. Can't stop until you have all the possible information, huh?"
"Sort off. Grandfather encouraged us to learn about anything that interested us." said Azalea, shrugging slightly, a red tint visible on her cheeks.
"Lily was the same way." he said, tone wistful yet tinged with grief. Azalea gave a small sad smile in return.
They crossed the courtyard to reach the back door of the Main wing. Sirius opened the door which led to a passage. White Statuario marble with black and gold swirls was used as the flooring within the main wing and the walls were painted in various murals and decorated with antique pieces.
"Say, why does the Head's wing so different from the Main wing?" asked Azalea, looking at Sirius.
"Each time an Heir Apparent is chosen, they are allowed to change the Head's wing according to their choices. I told my choices as well. Grandfather changed the Head's wing according to my tastes, when he moved out of Wixen Britain." said Sirius, turning to look at her with a smile.
Azalea nodded as she noticed the passage led to a small set of marble stairs. They climbed up to a huge hallway with a jutted round balcony overlooking a grand hall. Sirius stopped in the balcony gesturing Azalea to come there. She looked around to find a set of grand curved staircase which led to the hallway/balcony they were standing on. It had real gold railings with the same marble flooring and a silver rug ran down from the top of the stairs to the end. The Black crest was proudly displayed on the central wall right behind where they were standing.
Sirius turned around slowly to look at the Black crest while Azalea still observed the huge stately room. The walls were painted in an off white colour matching with the flooring. The gold panels decorated with silver and bronze giving a rich decor to the huge hall. One main chandelier hung in the middle with various other simpler chandeliers surrounding it.
"This castle is the seat of the Head of the House of Black." said Sirius, slowly caressing the crest on display, "We are warriors. Battle, Strategy and Politics are what we do best. Being creatures of battle, sharp instincts were hereditary. The castle was built in such a way that it resembled a fortress. The Wards are just as much as dangerous. They are dynamic and have a certain sentience as well. I am sure you noticed that whenever we reached a room, the lights are on or the fireplace is burning."
Azalea turned to face him when she heard him speak. Her eyes roamed over the Black crest in proud display as he spoke. The crest was the only thing black in colour in the entire room. It had a gold and silver borders running parallel round the crest creating designs around the border. The crest itself had a raven at its center behind which a wand and a sword are in an 'X' position. The words 'Toujours Pur' was written at the end with gold.
Azalea looked thoughtful at his words, as she observed him.
"I know it's on an unplotable land, but where is it exactly?" said Azalea.
"In an island near Wales." replied Sirius with a smile.
"What?" Azalea said shock clear on her face.
"Yes." Sirius smiled as he came to stand next to her gesturing at the hall, "This is the Grand Hall where usually family meetings or any balls were held." said Sirius.
"Yule, I believe?"
"Yes, the Annual Yule Ball is a tradition of the Black's." said Sirius.
"Are you going to host it this time as well?" asked Azalea softly.
"No idea. It has been held every year and I am sure just because I got arrested for nearly two years does not mean that it was not held." said Sirius nonchalantly, "Grandfather would ask me to host it anyway."
Azalea sighed, "Troublesome."
Sirius laughed, "The dining room is left to the Grand Hall, with a much larger kitchen beside it. It is used when the whole family is in attendance which is rare or during the Yule Ball." He gestured at a door which she could see standing from above. "There are various sitting rooms and sunrooms mostly used for any business transactions or any other meetings. No one other than family is allowed in the inner area of the castle. There is another formal Office room here, where any formal meetings between various Head of the Houses are held. By the entrance there is a formal foyer as well, where guests are greeted. "
"Why are there so many rooms just to conduct business?" Azalea asked softly.
"There are various types of business a Head of a House performs." said Sirius as they walked back through the passage and entered the inner courtyard, "The Noble and Most Ancient Houses have various businesses to their name from investments to patents. Some may have business abroad in various Magical and Non-magical communities. Wizengamot Bills and Laws discussions, various business meetings, any meeting with a reporter or media person or private meeting with a family member or a simply casual meeting with friends – all of this needs different kinds of settings. Therefore the use of several seating rooms, formal Office and sunrooms."
Both of them entered the main living room of the Head's wing. The fireplace still had fire burning. Azalea took a seat on the sofa watching the slowly dying embers with Sirius taking a seat in front of her on a settee.
"It's nearly four o' clock. Are you going to sleep?" said Azalea, looking at Sirius, who was yawning.
"I should. Will you be fine alone?" replied Sirius grey eyes had tiredness in them.
"Yes." Azalea waved him off, "You should go sleep with Harry."
Sirius got up from the sofa, "I think I will do just that."
15th August 1983; Black Ancestral Castle - Head's wing; Harry's room.
Harry snuggled more in the warmth of the person next to him. He could get use to the warmth and love his aunt, Padfoot and Moony showered on him. He was happy to have his uncles back and in getting a new aunt. He slowly opened his bright emerald green eyes as he rubbed his eyes, looking at the person sleeping with him. His face broke into a small smile as he saw Padfoot beside him. He snuggled in more wondering where his aunt had gone.
Sirius woke up feeling the haze of sleep disappearing. He was always a light sleeper. The war and his dearest mother had made it a necessity. On top of that, time spend in Azkaban didn't help. He looked down to find Harry looking up at him with a bright smile.
"Good morning pup!" he said with a warm smile.
"Good morning!" replied Harry brightly, "Where is auntie?"
"Downstairs perhaps, pup." Sirius said as he sat up leaning against the headboard and puling Harry on his lap. He was half-naked, only wearing his silk pyjamas, having removed the robe when he came in.
"Can we go to her, Uncle Padfoot?" asked Harry, turning brilliant green eyes at him.
"Sure! But first, let's get you freshened up." said Sirius as he got down from the bed carrying Harry to the bathroom in his arms.
Sirius helped Harry in finishing his morning routine when Remus's voice was heard, "Today's headlines – Playboy Sirius Black turns himself into a family man."
Harry turned around swiftly running to Remus who had been leaning against the door frame of the bathroom, wearing a pair of black trousers and a comfortable washed out light blue t-shirt. Remus picked him up, nuzzling his nose affectionately.
"Good morning cub!" said Remus.
"Good morning, Uncle Moony!" replied Harry brightly. Sirius smiled as he turned to splash some water on his face, giving a middle finger at Remus behind Harry's back. Remus simply grinned in response as he carried Harry to his room.
15th August 1983; Black Ancestral Castle - Head's wing; Kitchen.
Azalea smiled a fond smile as she heard Harry run down the stairs. Yesterday, Harry had somewhat come out of his shell with Remus, Sirius and herself around. She was happy to see that he was still happy enough to jump and run around.
She turned around coming face to face with Harry who skidded to a stop right in front of her. Harry gave her a shy smile, as he raised his arms for a hug. Azalea laughed as she bent to pick up the little tyke.
"Good morning sweetheart!" said Azalea, as she pecked his cheeks.
"Good morning auntie!" replied Harry with a smile.
"Hungry?" she asked.
Harry nodded, "Yes please."
Before Azalea could say anything she saw a half-naked Sirius enter along with Remus.
"There you are pup! He runs so fast." Sirius huffed, taking a seat at the head of the small table.
Remus said as he took a seat beside him, "I think you should say that you are out of shape."
"Shut up Moony!" said Sirius, glaring half-heartedly.
"I hope you realize you are half-naked Sirius." interrupted Azalea. Sirius looked down at his inked chest, finally realizing he hadn't worn his robe.
Remus watched amused as Sirius's simply shrugged as he said, "I don't have the habit of wearing a t-shirt or a shirt to bed."
"It's fine Sirius. I just got a bit of a shock and I can count your ribs. You need to eat up." said Azalea, smiling a bit.
"It seems like it." Sirius murmured as he poked his own ribs, "I tend to forget wearing a shirt or t-shirt when I am home. I hope I did not make you uncomfortable Azalea."
"It's alright really. That's some fine work of ink, I dare say." Azalea said as she looked at them. There were total of three tattoos on Sirius's body. One tattoo started from his left wrist and extended till his collarbone branching out slightly to his chest, covering his entire left arm. It was that of an olive tree. A rat scurried up a branch while a wolf slumbered against its roots. A stag and a doe was seen standing tall and proud beside the wolf with absolute no fear. The second tattoo was that of the Black Family crest. It was drawn on his left bicep artistically though it did not move. The third tattoo was that of the Grimm which was drawn on his forearm and it howled periodically, though no sound came.
Sirius smiled as he looked at his tattoos. Meanwhile Azalea placed Harry back on his feet.
"Go ahead love; take a seat at the table. I will bring the breakfast over." Azalea said with a small smile.
"Should I help?" said Harry.
"Absolutely not, Harry." Azalea said her eyes darkening slightly.
"Aunt Petunia said that she would ask me to help me with the Kitchen chores once I can reach the counter." Harry said, wondering if his auntie Lea had such rules as well.
Sirius sharp intake of breath was followed by a low growl of Remus. Azalea clenched and unclenched her hand once before she relaxed her shoulders, bending down to look Harry in the eye.
"Harry, love, I promise you that you will have to do no such thing. We will not let you. Yes, you will be given chores one day, but they would be very small, like making your bed or taking care of your toys. Understood sweetheart?"
Harry nodded with a smile as he ran over to Sirius and Remus. He did not realize that his innocently spoken words had caused havoc in the minds of the adults.
"Padfoot?" said Harry, looking up at the seating Sirius.
Sirius smiled, stamping down his anger as he picked up his godson and sat him on his lap as Azalea bought the breakfast over with the items floating in the air. If one or two utensil made a bit of noise, no one said anything. She slid on the seat at the left of Sirius, as she made a plate for everyone.
Harry looked at his own plate curiously as he said, "What is this auntie?"
"You are having a glass of milk along with a cup of oatmeal. Come on, taste it. Tell me if you liked it."
Harry gingerly took a spoon to take a bite of the oatmeal slowly. Sirius and Remus watched with curious eyes, while Azalea smiled as Harry slowly chewed.
"Good?" she prodded. Harry nodded enthusiastically, as he took another bite.
"Slowly pup!" said Sirius, as he reached over to feed himself as well.
"Wow! Traditional breakfast, huh? You cook amazingly well Lea." said Remus, as he took a bite of the bacon.
Azalea shrugged, "Thanks."
Sirius munched on his toast as he said, "I agree with Remus. This is tasty."
Azalea smiled as she continued to eat her food.
"Auntie?" said Harry, as he turned his eyes on her. Azalea gestured him to speak.
"What is a Playboy?"
Azalea chocked on her toast, while Remus paled. Sirius gave her a glass of water, while Harry looked on worriedly.
"Did I ask a bad question?" said Harry in a small voice.
Azalea smiled sweetly looking at the two adult males, before speaking to Harry, "No dear. May I know from where you heard it?"
"Uncle Moony said it." Harry said, pointing a finger at Remus, who winced.
"Sweetheart, don't point. That's rude." Azalea said, glaring at Remus.
"Okay auntie."
"Sorry Azalea. It was a slip of tongue." said Remus hastily.
"Of-course, it happens sometimes Remus. How about you explain to Harry what the word means later?" said Azalea, a saccharine smile on her face.
Remus gulped, glancing at Sirius who gave him a half-amused and half-worried look.
"Harry sweetheart, shall we visit the park today?" said Azalea, looking at Harry who gave her a shy nod. His green eyes glimmered with excitement.
Meanwhile, Remus got definite proof of Azalea being Lily's sister, as Azalea glared at him. Sirius was discretely snickering which made Remus to kick his leg from under the table.
15th August 1983; Black Ancestral Castle – Basement; Ritual Room.
Arcturus Black, the current Lord of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black stood in the ritual room of House Black, in the basement of the Head's wing – most specifically the Ritual Room. It was time for Sirius to get the Signet ring of the Head of the House.
The entire Ritual room is actually a circular stone chamber. A set of seven healing stones were spread evenly on the walls in a circular formation. These seven stones were – Clear quartz, Amethyst, Sodalite, Rose quartz, Citrine, Carnelian and Hematite. Lavender and Rosemary herbs were being burned in two stands positioned north and south within the room. Runes symbolizing magic, protection, hearth and inheritance were painstakingly drawn in a circle on the middle of the floor. Four candles burned facing the four directions – north, east, south and west.
Arcturus turned towards the door when he heard it open. He watched with a slight proud glint in his eyes as Sirius came in wearing a white shirt and trousers with a silver robe over it which was left open at the front. Arcturus lips twitched to see the tattoos on his grandson, knowing that Walburga had been livid when she had learned of her elder son's antics. A teenage Sirius had paid no heed to his mother and Arcturus also didn't say anything, though he had been mostly amused at seeing the black crest inked on his grandson's bicep.
"Shall we start?" said Arcturus completely dressed in his pure Black dress robes.
Sirius took a deep breath and nodded resolutely.
"Then come and stand before the ritual circle facing me at the east point, grandson." said Arcturus, directing Sirius who stood where he was directed.
"O Mother Magic, hear my plea as I renounce the Headship of The Family of Black. Henceforth I abdicate the responsibility of the Headship to my grandson and wish thee to fulfill thy responsibility keeping in mind thy family's future." said Arcturus, as he cut a thin line on his palm with a ritualistic dagger which had a handle made of pure gold and encrusted with small black diamonds.
"O Mother Magic, hear my plea as I accept the Headship of The Family of Black. Henceforth I take over the responsibilities in regards to the Headship and shall fulfill it to the best of my abilities." said Sirius, as he knelled on the floor in front of Arcturus, who remained standing letting his blood fall on the Rune of protection and hearth, while Sirius placed his right hand exactly in between the runes of inheritance and magic, making both the Runes glow.
For a few minutes nothing happened, before swift yet sharp breeze flew through the chamber. Sirius closed his eyes as he felt the pressure of the Family Magic as it tested him. There was something else that was testing him as well. He felt goose bumps rise on his skin as the pressure intensified and his body was flooded by the Family Magic. He instinctively let his entire magic loose. The Family Magic seems to subside then as it slowly receded back and became a welcoming presence.
Arcturus was amazed when he felt his grandson's magic. He had never felt Sirius's magic. It had always been in wrapped in the tight control of his grandson.
The magical maturity of a Wixen is at seventeen years of age because their magic fully matures and settles by that time. Sirius had been at Hogwarts when he had turned seventeen, most specifically with Charles and Dorea. He hadn't asked Dorea anything regarding it, since it would have been inappropriate and he wanted to give Sirius some time to do what he wishes to do before he foisted off the responsibilities of the Family on his shoulders. Then his grandson got chucked into Azkaban without a trial and the rest was history.
Back to Sirius magic – it was powerful, immensely so. It was in the dark spectrum of magic as expected as almost all Black family members were powerful wizards or witches. The matter which staggered Arcturus was the seductive and magnetic nature of his magic along with the scent – citrus, wood, leather, storm and thunder. Sirius's magic was calming yet immensely compelling.
Only true masters of Dark Magic knew that the magic used in this spectrum was seductive and immensely persuasive. However, Dark magic was not evil or Black magic, but rather it was very compelling. This was the reason why it was hard to control and learn. It required immense discipline to study and practice it.
Arcturus wondered if this was the reason why Sirius kept a tight control over his magic. He looked at his grandson as the Family Magic surrounded him, causing him to close his eyes briefly.
"Is it done, grandfather?" said Sirius, as his entire body felt stiff and his head felt heavy. He felt unbalanced as well.
"Yes. You can stand now grandson." said Arcturus glanced at him, eyes roaming over to see the changes that had occur.
Sirius stood up shakily on his feet. He blinked trying to clear the euphoric feeling that he was getting from his Family Magic.
Arcturus waved his wand clearing the entire Ritual room, as the runes and herbs disappeared from the room.
"Ellie!" called Arcturus. A female house elf appeared in the Ritual room wearing a white pillowcase with the Black crest.
"Master called?" said the little creature, turning beady eyes to Arcturus.
"Please settle Sirius in his room at the Head's wing." ordered Arcturus gently, his eyes looking at Sirius who looked disoriented.
"Yes Master." With that she took Sirius hand and disappeared without a sound.
Arcturus smiled in the empty room feeling something settle inside him.
"Looks like you were correct Melania, as usual." murmured Arcturus to himself, as he left the room.
15th August 1983; Diagon Alley – Children's Park.
Remus sat on the blue blanket spread on the ground resting his back against the huge trunk of a tree with a book in his hand. He was casually dressed in a green shirt and beige slacks with brown shoes. The park in Diagon Alley had a groove of forests at one side where anyone could sit under shade if they wanted to. Many came here to do an impromptu picnic, like them. Harry had to be coerced to play, but he went shyly and stayed nearby. Currently, he was in the sandbox, playing with the rainbow coloured sand with a couple other children, all three to four year old.
Azalea, on the other hand was sitting very comfortably in her blue a-line dress with a collared neckline and three-quarter flared sleeves. She was sitting near the end of the blanket facing Remus as she rummaged through the picnic basket she brought. Her blue heels were left beside her on the ground, as she sat barefoot with a pillow beside her. Remus was impressed when she had casted a potent and a modified Notice-me-not charm around the three of them and the area they were sitting in and then she had proceeded to make herself at home.
"We will have lunch here I belief?" said Remus, looking at her.
"Yes, I asked Tillie to pack us some lunch." said Azalea as she shot him a small smile, "It would have been nice if Sirius could join us too."
"Yeah, but he has to do the ritual of gaining headship today. I think he will have lunch with Lord Black." said Remus.
"Mr Black will not be Lord Black for long." said Azalea, "Sirius will be called Lord Black from here on."
"Absolutely!" said Remus as he laughed, "I could imagine his face."
Azalea gave an amused smile as she looked at Harry who was still playing.
"You are a lot like Lily." said Remus, as he glanced at his newly made friend.
"Well, yes, both of us got the red hair of our grandfather. Mine is dark compared to Lily's auburn red. We have different colour eyes though and she was tall in comparison to my 5'4 feet height." said Azalea, speaking softly as she faced Remus.
"I wasn't talking only about appearances Azalea. I may have met you just a day or two before but Lily spoke about you a lot. She adored you and was in awe of you." said Remus, eye slightly distant.
Azalea felt her eyes moisten, as she looked down at her lap.
"What...tales did she tell?" asked Azalea, almost hopefully. Remus gave her a genuine smile, "She used to complain a lot about Petunia, especially how mean she used to be. The girls in our year in Gryffindor knew about it and so did we. I think Professor McGonagall also did. So, when a package came for Lily that also for her sister, all of us thought that it was from Petunia. The girls hid the package, thinking it would upset her, as it could have been a prank."
"It was from me. I remember sending her a Charms book she wanted to read. I read through the book quickly so I could send it to her." said Azalea, smiling slightly.
"Yeah...that book." said Remus with a laugh, "Somehow Sirius got a hold of the book and it caused a fight between James and Lily."
"What? How?" said Azalea feeling incredulous at imagining such a scene happening.
"Apparently, the girls forgot about the package and left it at the sofa of the common room. Sirius found it there and gave it to James saying that since Lily liked Charms, surely she will be impressed if he gifted her that book. Lily was skeptical but she accepted it, only for her to yell at James saying that he stole from her, because this book belonged to her sister who had promised to send it to her." said Remus as he chuckled remembering the incident.
"Did the girls not say anything?" asked Azalea amused, while Remus nodded, "They did. Then Lily calmed down but not before throwing a pillow at Sirius's."
"Then, what happened?"
"Then, she said that she had two sisters – an elder and younger one. The book was a gift from her younger sister who was also a witch. She then went on to how you stayed with your grandfather and how rare she meets you. Saying that she left for her dorm so she could read the book." said Remus.
"That sounds just like her. It must have been nice to spend time with friends and having fun while learning." said Azalea wistfully.
"Why? Did you not go to school too? Lily said that you stayed with your grandfather." said a curious Remus.
"Yeah, I did stay with grandfather. But I never had much friends – not until I started the ICW Academy at age fifteen." said Azalea, a sad smile on her lips.
"Well, you are my friend now and Sirius's too."
Azalea chuckled nodding, "Okay. Tell me your story."
"Mine?" asked Remus looking a bit shocked. At Azalea's nod, he started, "Well, I was born to John and Hope Lupin. My father was a Ministry worker and my mother was a housewife. One day, my father pissed off Greyback, and as revenge he bit me and turned me into a werewolf. I was four year old then. My father resigned from his post in the Ministry and did odd jobs in the muggle world. My mother earned too so that we could make ends meet. One day, Dumbledore came to invite me to Hogwarts as I had sent a letter refusing to go. When he found out I was werewolf, he persuaded my parents to let me attend."
"The reason behind why you never questioned Dumbledore." stated Azalea.
"Yes, I suppose." nodded Remus, "I was always grateful to him for allowing me to attend."
"The decision was still yours in the end." said Azalea, as she checked her watch.
"What?"
"It takes an immense amount of courage to come to a school where there is a risk every single day to be discovered and ousted. Dumbledore welcomed you to come but it was you who took the first step, Remus. Give yourself some credit. You had the option to tell no, yet you did not. It takes courage."
Remus looked at her shocked, chocolate eyes wide and hopeful. Azalea gave him a soft smile, before turning to look at Harry who had finally completed in building a sand castle, though it wasn't a perfect one but it looked adorable.
She immediately clicked a picture of Harry and the sand castle as the former stuck his pink tongue out in concentration. Harry looked at her at the sound of the camera, only to smile bashfully as Azalea gave him a beaming grin.
Harry trotted towards her with a shy grin. Azalea got up and picked him up in her arms as well, while using her magic to float the camera.
"I made a castle, Auntie." said Harry, emerald eyes soft and bright.
"I saw, my love. It is beautiful. How about you stand with the castle you made so we could take some pictures to show your Uncle Padfoot?" said Azalea.
Harry nodded immediately and asked to be put down on his feet. When Azalea did that, he ran over to the castle. Remus also got up, "How about I take those pictures and you both pose?"
"Sure Remus. Then I will take some of you and Harry's as well." said Azalea, as she send him a soft smile. Remus nodded, chocolate eyes bright and happy as he watched aunt and nephew posing with the castle so he could take those pictures.
Remus took various pictures of Azalea and Harry with the castle, some he took of Harry seating with Azalea on her lap or in her arms. Some single pictures of Azalea and Harry's were also taken. Next, Azalea clicked continuous pictures of Remus and Harry is various positions – from standing together to holding hands or making goofy faces.
Azalea's favourite pictures were when Remus was tickling Harry and when Harry was on her lap sitting under the tree. She laughed at Remus's surprised face as Harry sneaked some cool sand inside Remus's green shirt from behind.
"Come on boys! It's Lunch time."
Remus and Harry came towards where she was sitting with happy smiles and bright eyes. She bought out the dishes and the pitchers of water and orange juice, as they both sat down.
"What are we having Auntie?" asked Harry as looked at his aunt.
"We have chicken sandwiches with pickles, some toasts and butter as well as jam, fruits, fish and chips with some crisps. Other than this we also got some apple pie. So, what do you want to eat, sweetheart?" asked Azalea, watching as Harry looked at all the dishes which she pointed.
"Can I start with sandwiches and some fruit please?" said Harry.
Azalea handed him his plate gesturing at Remus to start as well, who simply took some of everything on his plate. Azalea also had some toasts and sandwiches.
"Auntie, why had Uncle Padfoot not come with us?" asked Harry, looking at her curiously.
"He had a meeting with his grandfather, sweetie." said Azalea gulping down her food swiftly to answer her nephew.
Remus added, "And he told me to take a lot of pictures, so smile cub!" with that he clicked an embarrassing picture of Harry eating his food, causing Azalea to laugh and Harry to pout.
15th August 1983: Black Ancestral Castle – right wing; Dining Hall.
Arcturus smiled as he saw Sirius coming to the dining hall in the right wing to join him for lunch. The headship transfer had been a success, as he noticed the new ring on Sirius's right index finger. It was a gold ring with a single black diamond which had the crest of Black's imprinted on it. The black diamond was surrounded by smaller white diamonds in an oval shape. His own ring had already disappeared.
The Family Magic had always gifted every Head of the Family with something, whether it is slightly changed features or some new bloodline or increased magic. Arcturus glanced at his grandson and noticed that Sirius's hair has lengthened to reach his shoulders. His grey eyes now had some streaks of purple – the colour of the Black Family Magic. Sirius's height seemed to have increased too as before he was five feet ten inches but now he was six feet one inch. He looked healthy as well, for his skin had a healthy glow to it. His grandson had always been immensely handsome with his aristocratic looks including his strong jaw line, high cheekbones and the signature grey eyes of the Black's. He had also regained any weight he had lost during his unlawful stay at Azkaban. All in all, he looked like the Lord he was - powerful and intimidating.
"Good afternoon grandfather." greeted Sirius as he neared Arcturus, only for him to stop in confusion.
"What is the matter, Sirius? Take a seat." said Arcturus, raising his eyebrows, as he gestured to Sirius to take a seat at the Head of the Table. He knew very well why Sirius was confused.
"Isn't the head of the table your seat, grandfather?"
"Now it's yours. I have already handed over my position to you Sirius."
Sirius gave a contemplative look at Arcturus, before taking the seat with Arcturus at his right. Both the men stayed silent as the elves bought their lunch for them before they left. Only after they had eaten a few bites, did Arcturus speak, "Have you looked into the mirror yet, grandson?"
"I have grandfather. I am amazed truthfully. By Circe's grace, I think I got an increase in my magic as well. When I tried to do magic with my old wand it got destroyed. Rather, wandless magic has become pretty easy." said Sirius, looking at Arcturus who looked thoughtful.
"Most only get one gift from the Family Magic, but you got several. At least you are healthy again. How are you feeling?"
"Starving actually, otherwise, I think my body was in the same peak condition before my unlawful incarceration. I simply got a bonus of increased magic as well." guessed Sirius, as he enjoyed eating his sausages.
"Good to know. Though an overall check up with Gringrotts goblin healers won't go amiss. I suggest you check in with them once. Also continue to train in wandless magic, only powerful wizards and witches are able to do that." said Arcturus with a calm voice which had a worried undertone.
Sirius looked up from his plate to catch his grandfather's eye, "I will be fine, grandfather. You need to worry less at your age, though I suppose you are correct. A visit to the goblins and regular practice of Wandless magic is in order. Perhaps, I shall ask Azalea to help with it. She is capable at wandless as well."
"That's the aim for the rest of the time I will live, given you do not plan to send me to an early grave. Though, it seems young Lady Ravenclaw is a woman of many talents. It is rare to find such a formidable young witch these days." agreed Arcturus with a small smile as Sirius gave a small teasing smirk as he retorted, "Are you telling me to send you to an early grave grandfather?"
Arcturus let out a subdued chuckle, "No thank you, I can live without the hassle of your plans." This caused Sirius rolled his eyes good naturedly, while Arcturus continued, "May I inquire where is Lady Ravenclaw, Heir Potter and Mr Lupin?"
"They went to the park and took a picnic basket with them. I belief they wish to have a picnic." said Sirius, "Why?"
"I was simply wondering whether you will be announcing Heir Potter as Heir Black as well."
"In my current Will, he is my Heir, but now let's see." shrugged Sirius, "I have no idea what the future holds for me anymore."
"Well, if you wish to court Lady Ravenclaw, you shall have my blessings."
Sirius chocked on his food, "What?"
Arcturus gave a small smirk at his grandson as he handed a glass of water to him, "If you don't move quickly, someone else will. I am sure she has no dearth of suitors seeking her hand in bonding."
"Grandfather, I have met Azalea just two days back. I do not wish to be romantically involved with anyone in the near future." stated Sirius sternly.
"If that is your wish Sirius, but do remember that as the Head of the House, you have some responsibilities in siring children."
"I will keep that in mind. There are other various methods for that, in the case something goes wrong." answered Sirius, diplomatically ending the discussion right there.
15th August 1983; Black Ancestral Caste – Main wing; The Foyer.
The Foyer of the Blacks in the Main Wing was decorated to show off their lavish lifestyle and their prized heritage. The walls were painted a navy blue colour with silver swills in them, giving off an artistic touch. The White Statuario marble was used as the flooring with navy and silver swirls creating the Black Crest in the flooring, which was ingenious. There was also a fireplace which connected to the Floo system but it was restricted for now. A magical photo of Remus of Rome was kept there, though it couldn't speak.
"Sirius, lead our family well. If you have any need of an older counsel you are free to contact me." said Arcturus, as he prepared to leave at his own manor at France.
"With pleasure grandfather, but are you sure you do not wish to shift in here in the Black Castle?"
"I am very sure. Do remember to contact Cassiopeia as well." said Arcturus, his eyes twinkling at his grandson's dumbfounded look.
"She is alive!?" said Sirius, eyes wide.
"Yes, she is in good health. I belief she is currently in Italy, at our grapevine estate." said Arcturus, with a small smile.
"It least there is someone who can control my mother, during the meeting." murmured Sirius to himself.
A crack of apparition sounded as Remus appeared. Azalea and Harry appeared without a noise just a moment later. Sirius's face lit up immediately on seeing them and he went towards them immediately.
"Had a fun day out?" asked Sirius, as he placed a hand on Harry's head who was sleeping with his arms round Azalea's neck, being carried in her arms. Remus held the picnic basket and the blanket.
"Yes, it was fun. Cub tired himself out by running and playing." answered Remus with a tired smile on his face, though his chocolate orbs twinkled merrily.
"I missed it." said Sirius, when Azalea agreed, "You did."
Remus bowed noticing Arcturus standing behind Sirius, "Merry meet, Lord Black."
"Merry meet, Mr Lupin. I belief I am no more Lord Black. That would be your best friend here. You may call me Arcturus." said Arcturus, with a small dip of his head in acknowledgement of his bow.
"Then please call me Remus, Arcturus." said Remus before sending Sirius a teasing smirk, who gave him a slight glare.
"Congratulations are in order, Sirius or shall I call you Lord Black?" said Azalea, a teasing smile on her lips.
"Please don't. I am Sirius to both of you." groaned Sirius, sending an annoyed glare to Remus who was snickering.
Azalea smiled before turning to Arcturus, "Merry meet, Mr Black."
"Merry meet Lady Ravenclaw. The offer of calling me by my name is extended to you as well." said Arcturus, with a barely there smile.
Azalea nodded, "Thank you. Please address me by Azalea as well."
"Very well, but I believe now I should take my leave. May Mother magic bless you all. Merry part." said Arcturus.
"Have a safe journey Arcturus. Merry part." answered Azalea, with Sirius nodding beside her,"Merry part Grandfather. Do write once in a while."
Arcturus nodded at them before apparating out.
15th August 1983; Black Ancestral Castle – Head's wing; Living Room.
Sirius looked at the various pictures which Remus was developing easily from the film. Each of the pictures moved as it was clicked by a Wizarding camera.
"I truly missed a very enjoyable day Moony! Did pup enjoy himself?" asked Sirius, as he looked at the photo of Remus holding hands with Harry.
"I am sure there will be more picnics like this one Padfoot. Harry enjoyed the day spend outdoors. Azalea was saying she had another planned for a later date, probably with some kids near Harry's age. It would allow him to mingle with his age group as well." said Remus, sending his friend a smile.
"I suppose. But we can't allow Harry to mingle with kids right now. The situation in Wixen Britain isn't exactly ideal, specially with the trials coming up." said Sirius frowning a bit.
"Who said anything about now, Sirius?" asked Azalea, as she came down the staircase after putting Harry in his bed.
"I am selfish enough to keep him secluded and away from everyone." answered Sirius.
"You aren't the only one, Black. I was planning on keeping him away till we can do a background check on any prospective playmate." said Azalea, explaining what she was thinking previously.
Sirius nodded, "I was thinking that we need to check out Dumbledore. I refuse to let him use Harry as a puppet."
"Let him come near cub, Moony will have fun tearing his throat." growled out Remus, at the mere thought.
Sirius nodded with a dangerous gleam in his eyes, while Azalea took a seat beside him as she said, "While the thought is compelling, let's not go there. The current plan that is scheduled for tomorrow happens to be Shopping. We are also supposed to look into the matter with Petunia and Vernon, Sirius. Remus you are welcomed to join us."
Remus nodded as he managed to calm his wolf side down while Sirius looked thoughtful, "Yes, perhaps we could schedule a meeting with the goblins as well. I do need a check up after today."
"Harry needs a check up as well, while I think I would like to get the letters and the photo album from Lily's vault. There should be some photos we could show Harry regarding his parents." said Azalea, looking at both men.
"Yes, perhaps we should also collect the letters written by James and Lily." said Remus, hesitantly looking at Sirius, who nodded gulping a bit.
A few moment of silence prevailed as everyone got lost in the thoughts of the friends/family they lost.
"So should we go to Gringrotts before the shopping or after?" asked Sirius, bringing everyone back to the present.
"After." said both Remus and Azalea. Sirius nodded, "Well, do either of you want some tea?"
"Sure Padfoot." answered Remus, while Azalea nodded.
"Tillie!" called Sirius. Immediately with a slight 'pop', Tillie appeared, "Yes, Master Sirius?"
"Please get some tea and biscuits for us." said Sirius, while Tillie nodded and left.
"How many house - elf are there in this castle?" asked Azalea, looking beside her, where Sirius sat.
"Currently there are five of them. Tillie is my personal elf. Say Azalea, what gift did you get on your Headship?" said Sirius.
Azalea blinked a bit before reflecting on her thoughts, "I think I got potent mental shields. My magic also increased slightly, though not much that I have to practice it again. What about you?"
"I destroyed my wand while trying to cast magic." said Sirius, making Remus's jaw drop while Azalea looked shocked.
"Only you Padfoot, only you." said Remus, going back to what he was doing with an amused shake of his head,
"Oi!" protested Sirius half-heartedly as he sported a grin.
Azalea chuckled as she leaned forward to make tea for both Remus and Sirius. Remus took his earl grey tea sweetened with two sugars and no milk, while Sirius had his with some honey. Azalea made hers with a splash of milk and two sugars.
"Say, who was Harry's godmother?" asked Azalea, as she leaned back on the sofa.
"We guessed it was Alice perhaps. Truthfully, neither James nor Lily said much about it and I don't think we asked either, did we Padfoot?" said Remus, shrugging a bit.
"No we didn't. I think Lily was planning to ask you Azalea." said Sirius, taking a sip of his tea.
"Oh." said Azalea softly, "What about Alice? Weren't they best friends?"
"Lily had three best friends – Alice Longbottom nee Fortescue, Marlene McKinnon and Mary McDonald. They were roommates as well." said Remus softly.
"Where are they? I know about Alice but what about the others?" asked Azalea, looking at them with soulful eyes.
Sirius and Remus shared a slight grief- filled glance, before Sirius answered with a bitter smile, "Dead."
Azalea did not say anything, simply looked pensive, "Killed in action or murdered?"
"Marlene was murdered in one of the safe houses of Order of the Phoenix. Now that I think about it, I am sure that rat had informed of its location to his master. Mary was killed in action along with Fabien and Gideon Prewett. I am sure that mission was also jeopardized by that..." trailed of Sirius, a dark shadow in his eyes. He seemed to have been sucked into the war period, while Remus's eyes also held angst within them alongside grief.
"I apologize in bringing back dark memories for you both." said Azalea, her voice soft and soothing. She kept her tea cup down while placing one of her hands on Sirius's arm while the other was placed on Remus's shoulder.
"Have you lost anyone Lea?" asked Sirius, turning grey eyes on her. Remus also looked at her.
"Other than my sister, yes I had lost quite a few close people. Two of them died protecting me." She brought her hands back, folding them on her lap as she averted her gaze, her lips pulled in a bitter and sad smile, "It was due to my mistake and my curiosity. If I had been a bit more careful and not so weak then, perhaps they would still be alive."
"What happened?" asked Remus hesitantly, curious yet taken aback at her words.
"It's a long story." said Azalea looking at both the men.
"I think we have time before Harry wakes up from his nap." said Sirius, as he crossed his legs, giving his full attention to Azalea. He took his tea cup, balancing it on his knee with his hands. Remus also got comfortable in his seat, clearing the clutter of film and photos and placing them on one side along with his wand. He also took his cup of tea, taking a long sip focusing his chocolate orbs on Azalea.
Azalea herself folded her legs underneath, as the skirt of her summer dress flared out to cover her legs. She shifted slightly to get comfortable with her back towards the armrest of the sofa. She took her cup of tea and placed it on her lap. Her eyes held a distant glow as she looked at the burning embers in the fireplace.
"You need to know a bit of my back story to understand what had happened. I was the youngest of three sisters – Petunia, Lily and I. The problem was I was not a planned baby. My parents did not want another child and were rather unhappy when I was born. I won't say I was abused but I did feel a certain amount of neglect. Our father belonged from the working class. Our grandfather and grandmother were magical. Grandfather never spoke of magic to his son, because he was a squib."
"So your dad found out about magic when Lily got a letter right?" asked Sirius, as interrupted in between. Azalea nodded as she continued, "Yes. When she got a letter, grandfather spoke of Magic to the family. He did not go into details with them, simply gave an overview. Lily and I, on the other hand, learned more from him later on. Once grandfather visited suddenly and saw the neglect I faced, he took me away. He witnessed me doing accidental magic."
"When did you start to live with your grandfather?" asked Remus, taking a sip of his tea.
"I was four I think. Lily was five and Petunia was ten years old."
"Then?" urged Sirius softly.
"Well, I don't know if you know this, but our grandfather's name was Alexander Evans, but his code name was – Panther." said Azalea, meeting their gazes. Both looked shocked while Remus asked, "Panther, as in, the very guy who was feared enough that even Grindelwald was forced to run from the battlefield?"
"Yes. The very same guy." answered Azalea softly, her eyes were tearful, "And one of those two people I lost was my grandfather."
Both shot her startled looks, which she did not see as her eyes were focused on the embers burning in the fireplace.
Azalea continued as if on a trance, "It was on mission that he died because of my foolishness. I wasn't fifteen yet, when grandfather was called on a mission. I was a curious person by nature, something he would always encourage. I was also called a prodigy because by fifteen I had already finished learning the basic curriculum needed to pass NEWT's. It was mostly because I got an eidetic memory. Anyway, I sneaked my way in the mission board and when grandfather found out, he gave me a thorough tongue lashing." She gave a slight sad chuckle at that, "It was the last time he ever gave me a scolding. The enemy found out that the Panther's only weakness which was I, was on board and hiding somewhere. He found and captured me and forced grandfather and his team to surrender."
Sirius reached out to take the empty tea cup from Azalea's lax hands. He placed his own beside hers on the coffee table. He took hold of her hand, feeling the coldness coming off from her small and delicate hands, "You don't have to say anything more, love. Let it be."
Azalea shook her head negatively, teary sapphire meeting steely grey. Her voice shook though she did not take her hands back, "No. I need to tell it. Lily only knew the official report and the unabridged version from an acquaintance. I never told her myself. She never blamed me but I couldn't help but feel so helpless. My foolish curiosity was the reason behind our grandfather's death."
"No, Lea. You are wrong. I am sure neither Lily nor your grandfather blame you. You were fifteen, prodigy or not." assured Remus, his voice soft yet held a very sure undertone to it.
"I still want to get this out of my system, since I started it."
Sirius's brows furrowed at her statement, as he exchanged a glance with Remus, who gave a concerned look at her.
"Alright, go ahead love. But don't force yourself." said Sirius softly as he squeezed her slowly warming hands to give some comfort.
Azalea looked at their joined hands for a moment then glancing at Remus who gave her a comforting smile. She gave a shaky smile back, "I somehow managed to get out of the hold the enemy had on me and that split second was all grandfather needed to turn the game back. He had already blasted the nearby radius and ordered his entire team members to leave with me, the rescued people and the captured prisoners, while he held everyone back."
Azalea stopped, as she slumped back, eyes filled with pain, "I was so afraid. Whatever I knew flew away, as my grandfather fought back with all he had. That was the first time I saw him as the dangerous warrior he was. He had no regret killing, Circe knows how many people. Some of them had their head cut off or throat punched or their intestine battling within their body and thousands of other horrific sights. I was so horrified, fascinated and awed that I forgot to move back to the battle ship. Grandfather took a sword meant for me. It fractured his spine completely." A tear slipped by, before another joined as she held a faraway look in her eyes. Sirius tightened his grip on her hands, as he exchanged a helpless glance with Remus who was also very worried, "I just stood there crying feeling worthless and helpless. Then another man was about to fire a killing curse at me when another took the fall for me. I just watched!"
"Azalea, love, don't say anymore." pleaded Sirius, softly as he left her hands only to wrap his arm around her shoulder, bringing her in a half-embrace. Remus also reached across to place his hand on her knee, the touch calming, "Lea, Padfoot is right. Please stop now."
"He destroyed them. Grandfather destroyed them, as the remaining team members took me away. Not a single survivor was left alive not even grandfather. All in all, the mission was a success." whispered Azalea bitterly.
Remus mumbled, "Azalea, you have made him proud. Please do not let this effect you."
Azalea said nothing, as Sirius simply squeezed her shoulder. Azalea sniffed a bit, before straightening herself from where she was leaning against Sirius. She conjured a napkin to wipe her face clean.
Both Sirius and Remus felt slightly protective of the younger woman not only because she was the younger sister of their treasured friend Lily but also that she was a good person. At least she had to be if she was so accepting of Remus's lycanthropy. Remus had faced such immediate acceptance only from James and Sirius. Even Peter had been a bit cautious at the first. How did he meet such amazing people again?
Sirius on the other hand felt a sense of gratitude well up inside him for what she had done for him. No one had gotten his loyalty so easily, other than James, Lily and Remus – the less talking about the rat the better. Over that it was easily seen that his pup adored her. He remembered Harry was never fond of Peter, when he was a baby.
Sirius snorted at the thought. It seemed like a baby was a better judge of character than them. Where had they gone wrong with that guy?
"What are you thinking?" asked Azalea, wanting to break the grief filled atmosphere. She couldn't belief she had a breakdown in front of them. She rarely let people inside her walls. How did these two males made her trust them enough for her to lower her occulumency walls?
"Just that Harry is a better judge of character than us!" said Sirius, looking at Azalea, who gave him an incredulous glance, "What?"
Even Remus looked at him confused.
"He hated going to Peter when he was a baby. None of us knew why. He would cry so loudly if he was handled by Peter." explained Sirius, making Remus nod, "Yes, now that you think about it, Harry never liked Peter. He threw the rat plushy we got him on the ground the moment he saw it. James thought that Harry simply did not like a rat that's why he was behaving like that."
"Well, I am impressed. He must have gotten such instincts from me or Lily! I can't think both of you or even James having such instincts." said Azalea, a teasing tone in her voice.
"Oi!" protested both Remus and Sirius, only for Azalea to giggle.
Sirius felt his lips quirk at her smile while Remus simply reached over and patted her head gently with a "There there!" only for it to be swatted away.
"Auntie!" called a soft and sleepy voice. Harry was standing at the base of the staircase, one hand rubbing one eye cutely, while he wore blue shorts and white polo shirt. He wore some fluffy slippers and his already uncontrollable hair became even more uncontrollable after sleeping. Harry was wondering why his aunt was giggling and his uncles looked amused as well.
"Hello sweetie!" said Azalea, as she picked him up to give him a hug. Harry loved her hugs. They were warm and comfortable like a particular favourite blanket. It also has to do with the fact that she scented like warm summer rain and rose, which almost always relaxed Harry.
"Hello!" he murmured into her neck, latching on to her with ease, as she almost always picked him up. He felt himself being lowered on a sofa, so he could sit. He turned bleary eyes at his uncle Padfoot, who looked at him with a smile, "Hello pup. Had a nice nap?"
"Yes, I missed you. We took photos." said Harry, his gaze almost accusing.
Sirius bought the younger boy into a small hug, "I know pup. I had some work, that's why I couldn't go. I promise I will come along next time."
"Promise?"
"A pinkie promise, pup!" said Sirius, looping his much larger pinkie finger to Harry's much smaller finger causing him to giggle.
A click of a camera went off right at that moment. Both man and child looked at the noise to find Azalea standing there with a camera and a big smile.
"Remus, why don't we take a few more pictures?" said Azalea, winking at Remus, who gave her a grin.
"You are the best Auntie Lea!" cheered Harry, as he clapped his hands happily, a bright smile adorning his little face as his emerald eyes lit up at the thought excitedly.
"That I am sweetheart!" answered Azalea, with a teasing smile.
Sirius gave a fake and dramatic gasp, "How mean of you pup! Here I thought I was the best!"
Harry simply giggled at the antics of his godfather.
After a long time the walls of the Ancestral castle of House of Black enjoyed a night of laughter, giggles and happy atmosphere. The Family magic seems to hum happily as it covered and protected the small family growing in its responsibility.
Hello Readers! I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
Now, let's come to pairings :-
(I am sure you have many questions regarding the same.)
1st pairing which is fixed - Sirius/Azalea. [I am not changing this.] [I won't give spoilers - but another pairing is fixed. You shall find out soon.]
2nd pairing - Narcissa/Remus [I am contemplating this. Not sure about this yet and would like your views on this. You can suggest other pairing too.]
I think someone asked me that whether Hermione will be in this story or not - the answer is yes, she will be a part of this story. Her entry is nowhere near though.
You can leave me your reviews about which pairings your want in Harry's generation. While I love Harry/Hermione, this story won't go that way because I have plans on making them siblings.
The pairings I was thinking for them are -
Harry/OC [I will have to create one which is a chore.]
Harry/Ginny [I love them but...here it won't fit much.]
Harry/Daphne [I dare say I am leaning towards them.]
Hermione/Fred [Again I am for them!]
Hermione/Draco [I adore them, but...perhaps siblings?]
Draco/Ginny [I love this pairing too! Let's see.]
Blaise/Ginny [I adore this one as well! Jeez, this is going to be tough.]
Neville/Luna [Love them a lot!]
Ron/Susan [Possible? Will have to think about it.]
Do leave your views and suggestions regarding the pairings! Do say why you like the pairing you do! You can suggest a pairing which I haven't mentioned in the above list as well.
Thanks again for reading my story!
Sayonara, see you all next month with a new chapter.
