Kisame always stood out, being one of the tallest people at his school. He was fairly popular, always being nice to everyone, but never being a pushover, which is what that new girl seemed to be. Everyone in his friend group diverted their attention toward her ever since Konan decided she'd bring her in, yes, even Kakuzu, though he doesn't physically seem to be interested.
"Man, I was not expecting her to throw her shit at him. Kind of just thought she'd start crying, you know? I mean, she did that too. It was kind of funny seeing Kakuzu get screamed at by some gremlin—"
"Would you shut up? It's not funny that someone can't control their emotions in front of their peers. All she did was embarrass herself."
"You seemed to be getting pissed, though," Hidan pointed out without a care in the world. Konan ate her leftover noodles while staring intently at Hidan while he told the story. Deidara was focused on other things, adding in some context where Hidan didn't. Kakuzu looked like he was about to beat the shit out of his twin brother, Yahiko just looked mildly disappointed, and Kisame, well, he was wondering why they cared. It's not like they knew her inside out, why were they so surprised she was temperamental? She just seemed withdrawn because she barely knew them.
Kisame boredly ate his school lunch, wishing he sat with his football friends today. He was getting a headache. Where was that Eve girl anyway?
"Kakuzu, why don't you just quit being a dick for once?" Yahiko frowned. "You embarrassed some girl in front of everyone. Don't look so smug about it."
"Smug? That's just my face, idiot. Stay out of it. You had nothing to say until the banter died down, how typical," Kakuzu didn't even look in his direction, still only writing.
Kisame could feel the tension, it was too thick for his liking. As much as he'd like to leave, there was still the curiosity as to where the malice between Kakuzu and Yahiko would be headed.
"Why are you even here if you don't like any of us? Maybe you should quit tailing your brother like a lost puppy?" Yahiko gripped his tray angrily. Kakuzu looked up and right into his brown eyes with a blank stare.
"You do the same to your girlfriend there, don't you?"
"Um, guys..." Konan softly interrupted. Yahiko sighed, settling down. "I'm gonna go and get Eve." Kisame almost wanted to come with her just to leave the awkwardness that was their lunch table, but he had a feeling he should just leave it to the goth. She had a way with her words, after all.
Kisame didn't miss the frown that she wore on her face as she walked by. Why was she so sad?
Once she left, Deidara finally looked up from his school work. "You guys done?"
"Heh, hope so..." Kisame muttered. Kakuzu grunted, practically ignoring them. Hidan twirled a pencil in his hand seeming bored.
"I think Eve is chill, Kakuzu just doesn't have taste," he chuckled.
"It's not about taste..." he muttered. He got a notification on his phone, which he wanted to ignore until it buzzed two more times. He groaned and took it out, seeing it was several texts from the blue-haired girl who just left.
Kakuzu, can you at least make an effort to be nice to Eve? She seems to barely eat and I only ever see her drinking coffee. I hate making assumptions about people but I think she's just going through a lot. You know about her father, not her.
And would you stop getting into arguments with Yahiko? It's getting exhausting. I know that he starts it a lot, but...you just pour gasoline into the fire sometimes.
At the very, very least, can you at least say sorry to her?
Hidan peeked at the text and then his brother. "Well?"
Kakuzu recoiled and pulled his phone away. "She should've said this to my face if she cared so much. Tch."
"How the fuck would she have done that when you two barely interact anymore? It's probably awkward. Consider her feelings, stupid bitch." Hidan smiled. Kakuzu went into thought.
Kisame definitely wasn't supposed to hear any of that, but him pretending to never pay attention to any conversations seemed to do him well this time around.
After a few minutes passed, Hidan's head perked up at the sight of Konan with Eve trailing behind her. It seems the day would go back to normal.
