Jareth woke up with pain shooting through his head. He tried to put his hand to it to find the source, but when he tried to bring his arm up he couldn't move it. Jareth opened his eyes. It was dark, but there was a small glimmer of light coming from a high barred window. As soon as his eyes adjusted his eyes widened. He realized he was in the castle dungeon and he was chained to the wall. "KANE!" He yelled as loud as he could knowing Kane would hear him.
Moments later just as Jareth thought Kane appeared before him, a malicious smirk adorned his face. Jareth glared at him, "Why am I locked in the dungeon? What the hell did you do to Ella? I swear to the Gods if you…." Kane quickly interrupted, "Do you think of me as cruel to hurt my precious wife like some kind of monster? I merely broke her wild spirit. I can't have a disobedient queen, can I?" He grinned sadistically.
Jareth felt rage boiling within, he violently lunged at Kane, but to no avail. "I'll kill you, you bastard!" Kane laughed cruelly, "You can try, but I think you didn't take notice of the beautifully crafted restraints I've placed on your hands and wrists, dear brother." Jareth stopped and looked over at his restraints, his eyes widened. "How? Who made these for you?" Kane chuckled. "I have my ways. I had those made specifically for you the day you took over fathers throne. I've been planning this for a very long time."
Jareth now knew how serious the situation had become. The handcuffs on his hands were made to bind the magic of the one who wore them. They were made for the unruly fae, rendering them completely powerless. Kane could see the wheels turning in Jareth's head just by the utter lack of silence. "Admit defeat, Jareth. I win. You're kingdom, you're castle, and you're lovely Ella belongs to me," he said as if it was no big concern. Jareth looked down in defeat. "Let me see Ella. I need to know she's all right." Kane sighed deeply. "I can assure you she is perfectly fine, but if you insist…" Kane snapped his fingers and Raymond appeared before him kneeling on one knee. "Yes, your majesty?" Raymond looked at the ground he couldn't bear, showing his shame for betraying Jareth.
"Bring Queen Ella at once. The prisoner would like to assure her appearance is… acceptable." Raymond stood and crossed his arm over his chest keeping his head bowed. "Right away your Majesty." With that, he disappeared. He returned moments later with Ella linked to his arm. Just as Raymond had appeared she too was kneeling on one knee and had her head bowed.
"You requested my presence, dear husband." Kane smiled and lifted her up to look at him with one finger. "I did my beautiful wife. It seems our prisoner doesn't believe me when I assure him that you are happy and healthy," Kane motioned to Jareth, who looked at Ella with sad eyes. Ella stood up and walked over to Jareth. "I am very happy with my husband." Then she dropped the dress she was wearing off her shoulder and let it fall around her feet.
"I am also healthy. My beautiful body is marred with scars for my disobedience which are always present as a reminder to whom I belong. I now serve King Kane, my body is his temple and I will uphold my duty to love, honor, and obey him and I will continue to strive to produce his Majesty with a suitable heir." Ella spoke with no emotion and did not once look up at Jareth. She hated herself for letting Kane break her.
"Good girl, sweet Ella." Kane walked up to her and brought her to his chest. Then he placed a soft kiss on her forehead. "I shall reward you later." Then Kane turned to Raymond. "Please escort the queen back to our chambers…" he turned and lifted Ella's chin, "I shall be there soon to administer your reward." With that Raymond walked over and linked his arm with hers, then they disappeared. Kane looked back at Jareth.
"See, she is perfectly fine." Jareth was seething with anger. "You call that fine?! She...she.. Her fire has gone out. She has given up… and it's all my fault." Jareth looked away in sadness and anger. "Oh, poor Jareth," Kane signed sarcastically. "Sorry to cut this short, but I need to go reward my queen, so I shall be back tomorrow," Kane then disappeared. Leaving Jareth to his thoughts.
Soon it became dark and Jareth had fallen asleep. Suddenly he heard the doors to the cell creak open slowly. He looked up to see Ella holding a candle. Before he could say anything she ran over to him and kissed him passionately. She was sobbing, "I-I'm so s-sorry, Jareth." Jareth shook his head.
He wanted to hold her so he could comfort her, but he couldn't move. "No, No, precious. Do not be sorry. It's all my fault. I love you so much, Ella." Ella smiled sadly. "We don't have much time." Ella reached down and pulled a vial from her chest. "This is the only way we can be together. Kane has no intent to let either of us go. Raymond gave this vial to me. He said if you and I drink it we will be together forever in the afterlife." Jareth looked at her unsure.
"Ella, you know what this implies, correct?" She nodded her head. "Yes. I've made up my mind. I would rather die and be with you than live an eternity in hell with Kane. I love you so much Jareth." Jareth contemplated Ella's words for a moment. "As you wish, you precious thing." Ella took the cork out of the vial then she dumped the red liquid in her mouth. Instead of swallowing she brought her mouth to Jareth's so she could let some liquid into his mouth. They kissed passionately. The liquid rolling around in their mouths, over their tongues, then finally they let it slip down their throats.
When morning came, Kane yelled in fury. "WHERE IS SHE?!" He knew only one person who she would disobey him to see, so he disappeared from his bedroom to the dungeon cell Jareth was in. He was shocked at the site. Ella lay on the floor at Jareth's feet. They both appeared to be sleeping. Kane was furious and was about to charge at Ella but he noticed the empty vial in her hand. There was still a drop of red liquid remaining. Kane knew all too well what the vial had contained. Then he smiled. "I guess I was defeated, after all, dear brother." Then he walked out of the cell.
