Sara smiled as she looked at her boyfriend through their video chat as it had been a few hours since Nico had left and since Sara had managed to trick the toddler into taking a nap. It was now late at night which meant Mal was fast asleep in her crib this time as she now had a dragon that she used to keep her company and to chew on.
And Sara finally had some alone time with her boyfriend, so they could have their date night again. Which consisted of them watching their favorite old timey movie together over video chat.
Sara was having a great time joking around with her boyfriend, but she quickly became concerned when she saw her grandma enter the room as she could tell right away something was wrong.
Sara didn't even hesitate to run over to her grandma wanting to know what was wrong. She put the back of her hand to her grandma's forehead to check for fever, but before she could really tell whether or not her grandma had a fever she started violently coughing, causing Sara to back up as she realized what was going on.
Sara immediately filled with fear and panic as she knew her grandma most likely had the virus and they were all going to get taken away. Sara just pushed away her terrified thoughts as she calmly told her grandma to go lay down in bed.
Before Sara could really process what was going on she heard a whole bunch of sirens as the sanitation crew showed up causing her to quickly panic as she quietly made her way to Mal's room picking up the terrified toddler who was sobbing after waking up from the sirens outside. Sara knew she needed to make sure Mal was hidden.
"Sawa! I scaw!" The small girl cried out as she didn't like the sirens. Sara just quickly covered the toddler's mouth to make her stop crying causing the toddler to bite it as she didn't like Sara putting her hand over her mouth, but Sara didn't care as Mal's safety was more important especially because no one except her, her grandma, and Nico her boyfriend even knew Mal existed.
"Mal I don't care you need to hide okay!" Sara told her baby sister in her best calm voice even though she was freaking out right now especially when she could hear her next door neighbor freaking out as they were dragging her away.
She just knew they were next, but she would rather die than let them get her baby sister or her grandma. The small toddler began to cry in fear as she could hear the commotion and the screaming causing Sara to remove her hand as she quickly shoved a pacifier in the toddler's mouth and pushed down on it stopping the toddler from screaming as that was the last thing they needed right now.
Sara felt like she was going to die when she heard the buzzer as she knew it was the sanitation crew. She just quickly looked at Mal who was still crying as she held up her finger to her mouth telling the small girl to be quiet as she couldn't let the sanitation crew see or even hear Mal.
Once Sara was sure Mal was situated she nervously answered the buzzer as she knew she had to act like everything was normal even though she was freaking out about getting caught.
"Scawy ma!" Mal cried out as she watched Sara talk with the scary sanitation man. Sara just held her breath as she quickly gave Mal a look that Mal recognized as be quiet or you go to timeout making the small girl calm down a little as she reached towards Sara who just made sure the man couldn't see her as she then picked up the small girl and held her close to her as she nervously finished her conversation with the sanitation man.
Sara sighed in relief when she heard the sanitation crew leave as she knew they were safe for now, but she knew tomorrow was going to be a different story. It was very obvious their grandma had the virus and they were supposed to do their daily temp check in the morning.
They were forced to have a virtual scan every day and if they detected the virus it would immediately alert the sanitation crew and they would come barging down your door and dragging you and everyone exposed away.
Sara just knew there was no way her grandma was going to pass and they were going to end up getting taken away and Mal would be discovered as well. Sara just sighed as she looked at the terrified toddler that was shaking in fear.
"Mal it's okay shh. Here we are just going to put this on you and you are going to stay here. I love you Mal and I'm doing this to protect you," Sara told the terrified toddler as she placed a mask over the toddler and placed her back into the crib. Mal just got upset as she tried to push the mask away not wanting to wear it, but Sara wasn't budging as she didn't want Mal to get the virus.
"No wan id!" The small toddler screamed out as she tried to take her mask off, but Sara just quickly shoved a pacifier in the toddler's mouth and placed the mask back on her. "Mal you have to wear it I'm doing this to protect you because I love you," Sara told the toddler who tried to pull the mask right off again and started crying again making Sara panic before she remembered the new toy that Nico had just gotten for Mal as she knew she could use that to her advantage.
Sara just quickly stuck a mask on the toddler's new toy holding it up to Mal. "Look Mal, see even Strawberry wears a mask. Don't you want to be like Strawberry," Sara told the toddler and sighed in relief when her plan worked as the toddler hugged her toy and stopped taking the mask off.
"Okay good! Now just stay in here and don't come out okay," Sara told the toddler as she placed a tablet in the toddler's crib playing her favorite show and then carefully went back out to go check up on her grandma, but the toddler just started sobbing making Sara sigh as she went back to Mal's nursery.
"Mal please. I don't have time for this," Sara told the toddler, making the small girl start sobbing. " I wan wita!" The small girl screamed out as their grandma was always the one to stay with Mal when she was scared. Sara just held back tears as she looked at the toddler.
"Mal sweetie Lita isn't feeling well right now. Which is why I have to go take care of her," Sara told the toddler, making the two year old scream louder until her face turned red. Sara just ignored the toddler as she went out to get on gloves and a mask to go take care of her grandma.
Sara was so distracted doing that she didn't see the toddler who waited for her to leave then climbed out of her crib as she made her way over towards her grandma's room. Just as Mal was about to enter the room Sara grabbed her as she pulled Mal right out of the room not wanting Mal anywhere near there.
"Mal no!" Sara quickly told the toddler who started sobbing again as she kicked and thrashed trying to get back into her grandma's room. "Wita!" Mal cried out as she reached out for her grandma and entered the room again, but Sara just picked up Mal as she placed her out of the room yet again.
"Wita!" The small girl cried out again making Sara cry as it was all just too much. Her grandma had basically raised her and now she was sick and not just that, but Mal was crying and begging for her and she already knows that her grandma won't pass the temp check in the morning which is going to make things even worse.
If they failed that temp check they go to the Q zones and if they go to the Q zones then Mal will be discovered and most likely killed. Sara can't let that happen. "MAL LISTEN TO ME! YOU ARE GOING TO STAY IN YOUR ROOM AND NOT COME OUT TILL I SAY YOU CAN! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME!" Sara screamed out to the toddler making the small girl start sobbing again as she practically jumped out of Sara's grip and ran to her room in fear.
Sara just started crying again as she watched the toddler run off as she knew Mal was terrified of her right now. Sara didn't want to have to yell at the small girl, but Mal's safety was the most important thing to her right now and letting her in a room with their sick grandma is not protecting Mal.
Once Sara was done helping her grandma she quickly cleaned up all the things with germs on her as she then made her way to Mal's nursery where she found the small girl hiding under her crib and clinging to her dragon.
"Mal," Sara called out to the toddler who looked up as she immediately backed up further under the bed as soon as she saw Sara was in the room.
"Mal come on. I'm sorry for yelling and not letting you see Lita. Can you come out now," Sara told the toddler in her gentle voice hoping to get Mal out from under the crib as she needed someone to keep her company right now and she wanted to just hold Mal close to her and know she's safe.
"No! You a meanie!" The small girl cried out as she just continued to back away from Sara and chew on her new teethers. "Mal I'm sorry. I just had to keep you safe. You know I would never try to hurt you," Sara told the toddler again who just shook her head no as she crawled back as far as she could so Sara couldn't get to her making Sara cry a little again as she knew Mal probably hated her now when she was just trying to save her.
