[From Hope's diary]
Another thing that I am happy with in this New World is the presence of all deceased people in Cocoon and Nova Chrysalia. This includes my dad and my mom. This is true for Sazh as well, as he got his wife back. Snow got Serah back. But, somehow, for whatever reason, Lightning did not get her parents back. She rationalized that it could be people that were born again in this New World need to be connected in memory to enable them to return. But she did not have much memory of her parents as they were dead when she was still very young. I feel very sad about this, as she has done everything to save the souls but she did not get her parents.
She only knew that her dad was also used to serve in PSICOM and he was reported to pass away during invasion of led by several Pulsian I'Cie. That happened when she was 12. Her dad was often being assigned outside Bodhum and only returned to their house once a month. His name is Bernard Farron, and she knew his appearance as thin, tall man with brown-spiky hair and sharp blue eyes with the scar on his cheek. He also wielded gunblade, the same model used by Lightning in Guardian Corps. Her mom, Victoria, is rose-haired lady and the charity worker of well-respected religious sect in Cocoon, and she mainly served homeless and orphans. She also passed away when Light was 15 due to unknown virus infection.
The charity of Lightning's mom actually offered to take care of Lightning and Serah after Victoria passed away. However, Lightning refused and chose to list herself as Guardian Corps' reservist and become one of the its youngest female member. Her reason is that for 15 years old, Guardian Corps actually offered the best stipend for child worker, if the person passed physical test. Lightning passed. The stipend she got at that time enough for only cost of living for herself and Serah, so she has limited opportunity but to dedicate herself to military. Lightning's dad did not leave inheritance other than the property in Bodhum where both Lightning and Serah lived.
Right now, if I go to public record for Bernard and Victoria Farron in Paris, I can find where their cemetery is located. Not long after my PhD graduation ceremony in Ecole, I advised Light to pay homage to visit her parents' cemetery before we visited my parents. She initially hesitated but finally agreed. So, that time, after my mom picked Valerie and Conroy from our apartment, Light drove both of us the cemetery address. Both of us were wearing white shirts and brought banquet of rose flowers. The atmosphere is quiet and solemn and I can see the sadness reflected in Light's eyes.
We finally reached their tombstone. It was written in their tombstone:
BERNARD FARRON (DECEASED ON 8 AUG 1023, unknown place)
8 AUG 983 to 8 AUG 1023 (40 years old)
VICTORIA FARRON (DECEASED ON 03 APR 1026, Bodhum)
09 JAN 990 to 03 APR 1026 (36 years old)
Soon, after Light reached the spot, she started to sob and cry. I only remembered two previous events she cried: when she was about to disappear into chaos to lock Bhunivelze, and after conclusion of Dissidia tournament when she doubted her character since he encountered Spiritus. And this time.
Both of us bowed down and put the rose banquet in front of their grave. I stood again but Light still remained knelt down, still sobbing while holding into her dad's tombstone. Tear was overflowing from her eyes. I can only remain quiet and I pray that their spirits will be purified and they were in better place.
"I am sorry, dad...mom...", Light muttered, "I saved the world...but I failed to save you...please forgive me..."
I sighed, kneeling down again to embrace Light while she was still crying, "I am sure they will forgive you, Light..."
Light slowly folded her hands in front of her chest, adopting posture of prayer.
"Dad...mom...please be in peace...and I wish you to be happy to see my husband...my children...Serah with Snow...their family...", she turned her gaze to blue sky and there was a rainbow appear at the horizon, "I promise to keep both of you in memory...until I leave this world...", she proclaimed.
She then turned her eyes upon me, I caressed her hair and hug her shoulder. She held my palm while slowly raised up
"Thank you, Hope...", she said while wiping her tears away, "I was...too emotional..."
"It is not wrong to sad when you remember your parents...", I calmed her, "Now you just mentioned Serah, does she know that our visit to this grave today?"
"I informed her and Snow, but currently they are not able to attend. They are living in Bordeaux. Snow and NORA were traveling outside city for their work. And she cannot find people that are willing to take care Lumina...", Light explained, "But they promised to catch up after Snow return..."
Light still stood still, watching the tombstone of her dad and mom. I was thinking that I had very good life compared to Light. She has very difficult childhood, with both of her parents passed away at young age, she need to take care of Serah, and at the same time saving the world, locked down in unseen realm for thousands of years in endless battle, and now she still supported me, Valerie and Conroy for four years as female breadwinner. In contrast, I was pampered by my dad since I was kid, given latest gadgets, multiple enrichment classes, domestic personal assistant, and able to attend university, and having complete family. If I was her, I may have been broken many years ago already.
She is very strong woman...and I cannot compete with her...
But one thing I can do now, is to make her happy the rest of my life.
"Mr and Mrs Farron...", I spoke, "I promise to make Light..Claire happy the rest of her life...with all my heart...to raise our children to be exemplary person..."
"Thanks, Hope...", Light replied, "I feel so good with you beside me..."
