Standing in the middle of the pokemon center out back battlefield, Ash stretched his arms above his head as he took in a deep breath of the crisp morning air, "Another beautiful day!" Ash proclaimed as he looked down at his flock, a bright smile on the young mans scarred face, "And I have some great news!" Ash continued, making the flock of Spearow focus all their attention on their trainer, "Nurse Joy said that, thanks to my "surprisingly, amazingly, fast recovery"," Ash started, air quoting around the words with a smile, "She has agreed to allow me to leave her care! So now we can continue our journey to becoming pokemon masters!" The flcok all smiled at the excitement in their trainer's voice, all raising their wings and crying out happily.
"Nurse Joy also helped me figure out some really cool and fitting nicknames for the rest of you!" The flock members without nicknames to call their own all cawed loudly in excitement as Ash called each of them forward, giving each of them a nickname in turn.
The nicknames he and Joy had come up with for the remaining 23 Spearow where as followed:
1. Sharp-Shot
2. Arrow
3. Final
4. Spar
5. Backup
6. Command
7. Shooter
8. Spike
9. Ranger
10. Dyson
11. Arrow Tip
12. Spear Tip
13. Sunny
14. Midnight
15. Sunset
16. Sunlight
17. Daisy
18. Chain
19. Rose
20. Veil
21. Confidence
22. Modest
23. Vane
The flock of 30 Spearow all cawed happily at their new nicknames, making Ash smile softly with an equally soft chuckle, "Before we leave the center, I need to make a phone call," Ash told the flock, all of whom nodded in understanding as they watched their trainer walk off the battlefield and back inside the pokemon center.
Sitting down and picking the phone up, Ash waiting patiently for Professor Oak to pick up the phone, smiling widely when he did, "Hey Professor! Sorry to call so early, but I was wondering if I could make a request?" Oak yawned and rubbed his eyes at first before perking up when he noticed that it was Ash on the phone, "Ash my boy! Good morning to you! If I may ask, what kind of request is it my boy?"
"Well...you know the flock of Spearow that are under my care?" Oak nodded softly, a nagging sensation from the fact that Ash had indeed got a flock of Spearow, and not Pikachu instead festered in the back of the elderly man's head, but he stayed focused, "I don't really want to split them up, since they have always been together, you know? So I was wondering if there is a chance I could possibly expand the amount of pokemon I can hold onto..."
"Hmm...I don't know my boy. That kind of special treatment is normally reserved for the most elite of trainers. Ones who have years of experiences under the belt...I don't know how you would cope with such a large amount of pokemon on your own..."
"Please Professor! I promise that if things start to get overwhelming I will contact you and you can but the limit back on! I just don't want to separate the flock...plus I want to be able to bond with all of my pokemon! I can't do that if there not with me, right?" Oak looked hesitant, but the desperate look on the boys face, as well as the Professor's own memory of the boy from there fateful encounter in his early years managed to sway the older man's decision.
"Okay my boy...but on one condition: Whenever you visit a pokemon center, you are to call me and keep me updated on your situation, as well as how you are coping with such a large amount of pokemon...deal?" Ash grinned and nodded enthusiastically, "Deal! Thank you Professor! I'll call you when i get to Pewter, bye for now!" Oak sweat dropped as Ash hung up the phone, smiling lightly at the sparkle in the young lad's eyes.
"All right everyone! It's time to hit the road!" Ash announced as he walked out back once more, slipping his bag off his back and pulling out a good handful of poke'balls, "Let's get you all caught first, that way no one can try and steal you guys!" The flock nodded as they where each caught in a poke'ball before their poke'balls where placed inside Ash's bag.
Suddenly, one of the poke'balls began to rock violently until it snapped open, revealing the flock's leader, "Final? Is something wrong?" Flock leader Final nodded as she glared at the poke'ball. Catching on quickly, Ash smiled and nodded in understanding, "Hate poke'balls? Thats cool, you can rest on my shoulder if you want?" Final smiled and nodded as she flew to her new spot on the boys left shoulder as Ash bid farewell to Nurse Joy, leaving Viridian City behind and heading towards the Viridian Forest.
