Rise of the Negaduck!
Chapter 6
Well, here we are: The series may have ended last month, but I have heard that 1. We are getting a Darkwing reboot (where hopefully, they really WILL explore the storyline of Negaduck vs. Darkwing) and 2. There will be a DuckTales podcast with the original cast members reading off episodes! Fun stuff! Sorry it's taken me so long to update this, but truth be told I've just been so depressed (STILL) dealing with this pandemic that I just haven't felt like writing much of anything.
On a story-related note, I have finally decided where I want to go with the ending of this fanfic. Let's. Get. DANGEROUS.
Disclaimer: I own nothing pertaining to Disney's DuckTales.
Author's Note: The ending of DuckTales was FANTASTIC, right down to the end credits sequence; that being said, the next chapter of this story will explore some elements of the series finale, while also returning to part of the storyline that took place in Let's Get Dangerous! Parts 1 and 2.
Alistair Borswan cried out as he was tossed back up to the main road. He groaned and rubbed his head.
"Perhaps it's time to return to my roots", he said as Donald climbed up behind him.
Della, Mrs. Beakley and Webby followed suit, as Huey, Dewey and Louie were flown out by Gizmoduck. Launchpad hoisted himself out of the hole and moved out of the way as a grappling hook came flying out. Darkwing Duck held the other end and laughed as he ascended.
"So the day is saved, thanks to me!"
"You?!"
Gizmoduck set the kids down and wheeled over to him as the grappling hook retracted.
"If it weren't for us, you would be cut to ribbons!"
"Oh, please-I was playing the long game. I knew he'd slip up."
"Before or after you became a dead duck?"
"Oh, who asked you, bolts-for-brains?"
Gizmoduck sighed.
"Look-I appreciate the fact that you want to help protect Duckburg, but-"
"But nothing, pal! I'm a better hero than you could ever hope to be!"
"That wasn't heroics! That was acting!"
"You know what? I don't need this. This town isn't big enough for two superheroes, ya know."
"Exactly what I was thinking!"
"Fine! I'll find my own town!"
"Wait, what?" Launchpad and Dewey said simultaneously.
Darkwing tightened his hat on his head and spun on his heel.
"DW, wait!" Launchpad said, racing after him.
"It's over, pal", said Darkwing once he'd gotten some distance away. "I was crazy to think I could do this here. I need to branch out, find a town that appreciates a true hero."
"Like where?"
"Well, I don't know yet...but when I find it, you'll be the first to know."
Darkwing got up and threw down a pellet. When the purple smoke had cleared, he was gone.
…
Several Weeks Later…
Launchpad danced along to the ending credits theme music as another one of his Darkwing Duck videotapes ended, when he suddenly got a call. He gasped when he saw the caller ID and immediately answered.
"DW!" he exclaimed. "Man, I feel like it's been forever since I've heard from you."
"Hey, buddy", said Drake. "How ya been?"
"Oh, Mr. McD's been great! I tried to convince him to relaunch the movie at first, but Alistair Borswan flew back overseas and then I realized without you or Jim here...there can't be a movie. So it didn't exactly work out."
"That's great, pal; so listen: Ever heard of a place called...St. Canard?"
Drake was quick to tell Launchpad about his new lair over the Audubon Bay Bridge in St. Canard, which was only a half-hour drive from Duckburg, and Launchpad and Dewey decided to drop by for a visit while Huey, Louie and Scrooge went to see a scientist named Taurus Bulba.
(Author's Note: Because you've (probably) already seen the events that took place in St. Canard, let's just jump ahead a little bit to something new, shall we?)
Just Before the Ramrod Was Destroyed…
A figure watched from the balcony as Gosalyn Waddlemeyer searched through dimension after dimension for her missing grandfather. She gasped as she recognized some other faces and turned the key. The machine spat out Scrooge McDuck and his nephews.
"Ugh-a sea monster did not eat my ice cream", he groaned.
"What happened?!" Huey exclaimed.
"What does quack-a-rooney even mean?!" Louie exclaimed.
"Why were our heads so round?!" Dewey exclaimed.
In the distance, Darkwing continued to fight Taurus Bulba as Launchpad took on the villains from his favorite TV series. The figure narrowed its eyes at Darkwing as Taurus Bulba grabbed him by the collar and hoisted him into the air.
"Keep! Looking!" he urged, struggling in his grasp.
Gosalyn eyed the screen, and then she saw Mr. McDuck catch two of his nephews before they flew into the unstable portal. With tears in her eyes, Gosalyn stepped away from the machine and raised her crossbow.
I'm sorry, Grandpa, she thought as she fired an arrow.
"No!" Taurus Bulba cried.
The figure, unseen by anyone, swooped down from the banister and launched itself into the Darkwing dimension as Bushroot, Megavolt, Quackerjack and the Liquidator were sucked back into their home.
"See ya soon, Dorkwing", Negaduck chuckled to himself as the portal closed.
…
After The Finale… (Seriously, RIGHT after it)
Scrooge, Webby, Huey, Dewey and Louie landed safely in Scrooge's money bin, performing perfect dives into different piles of coins, as the Sunchaser crashed into the sea below. They stared at it for a moment, and then burst into laughter. Atop the bin, Darkwing landed safely with Gosalyn and Launchpad.
"Oops", said Launchpad as he stared at the sunken plane. "And that crash wasn't even mine."
Darkwing and Gosalyn laughed.
"C'mon, you two", said Darkwing. "Let's go home."
…
Three Days Later…
Darkwing, Launchpad and Gosalyn returned from a night of fighting crime in the Thunderquack.
"That was totally awesome, the way you nabbed that bank robber, DW!" Launchpad exclaimed.
"Except for the part where you accidentally destroyed the cash they had stolen", said Gosalyn.
"Hey, I thought I was grabbing a smoke grenade; not an actual grenade!" said Darkwing.
Suddenly, the computer lit up with Fenton "Crackshell" Cabrera's face.
"Eureka!" he exclaimed. "Fantastic, how wonderfully superb!"
"Well, if it isn't Gizmoduck!" said Darkwing, sitting down at the desk with his arms folded. "What do you want?"
"Oh, come now, Mr. Mallard", said Fenton. "Can we not be civil and ignore the fact that our alternate personas are not compatible? You and I were great colleagues before you knew the truth about me, were we not?"
"Oh, fine", said Darkwing, rolling his eyes.
He pulled off his cape and tossed it into the display case behind him without even looking and took off his mask.
"Fenton!" he said. "Whaddup?"
"Well, do you remember when you asked me to help you with that Ramrod machine?"
"Yeah?"
"The one created by Taurus Bulba?"
"Uh-huh?"
"Who used it to appear as if it was making something from nothing and-"
"Yes, I remember!" Drake said, slamming his palms down on the desk. "What about it?"
"Well, as I seem to recall, you had asked me to find a way to keep the machine stable enough for your young friend to locate her missing family member, and I believe I have successfully found a way to do just that."
Gosalyn gasped.
"Really?!"
Fenton nodded.
"All we would need to do is reverse-engineer the quantum properties of the Ramrod's current purpose, which is to blink things out of existence entirely.
"Yeah...whaa?" Launchpad said, scratching his head.
"It means we can keep the machine open long enough for me to find Grandpa!" said Gosalyn. "Mr. Cabrera, that's great news! Thank you so much!"
"It was my pleasure!" said Fenton. "Now, the machine has been moved from the Library of Alexandria to Ithaquack. Mr. McDuck has asked his nephew Donald to allow Zeus to let us use it by having his best friend Storkules-"
"I get the picture", said Drake. "Just tell us when and where, pal!"
