Chapter Five: Unsure
Keigo was almost too giddy when he flew back to his apartment penthouse. He landed on this balcony with a smirk on his face. He slipped his visor off his head along with his headphones and placed them on the dining room table. He pulled off his gloves and his feathers unattached from his wings as he pulled off his coat. His shirt was the next to go when he walked toward the bathroom. He looked up at the mirror as he licked his lips, still had the hint of Luna's taste. The amount of desire he felt for her when he ate her out was insane. He never felt so feral in his life, it even topped the first time he did it to her. It was almost scary how sexually attracted he was to Luna. He felt bad that he'd been doing that to her so much. He needed to have some self control on his urges but it was getting harder as time went on.
She probably thinks I'm an asshole at this point.
Keigo looked over at his closet with a frown, debating on what to wear for this night. His wet hair dripped down his bare chest as he stood there staring at the various clothes in the closet. He rubbed the back of his neck as his other hand pushed around hangers. Maybe he should dress casual with a hint of flare? Or maybe a dress shirt or would that be too formal? He stepped back with a deep breath before rubbing the back of his neck. He grabbed a hold of a plaid button up with a plain back shirt, all of his shirts have been specifically tailored to his wings. He let his feathers slowly unattached from his wings enough to slip his shirt over his torso along with his flannel. His feathers quickly slipped back onto his wings until they were full once again. He let out a sigh before slipping a watch over his wrist. His eyes glanced over at the clock on the dresser and the time was creeping up on him. He bit his lip before spraying a marble cologne over his body. He looked down at his phone before scoping up his visor and headphones off the table. One final look in the mirror and Keigo walked over to the balcony.
Man, I didn't mean to be running late.
His wings spread as he climbed on the ledge of the balcony and slipped the headphones over his ears. He pulled the visor over his eyes before taking off. He looked down at his phone and quickly shot Luna a text message.
Keigo:
I'm sorry I'm a bit late. I'm on my way now.
Luna:
No worries. I'm waiting on my apartment balcony.
He smiled to himself as he slipped his cellphone back into his pocket. He bit his lower lip as he continued to fly across the city. The sounds of traffic chimed throughout the air and Keigo hummed to himself. It has been awhile since he went on a date. The ones before were honestly boring to him. It was always a fangirl gushing over him throughout the night and Keigo would be annoyed by the end of it. Only a few times the dates would end in meaningless one night stands. All the words those girls told him felt completely empty because of his status. He never felt like they were genuine and always felt a motive in their actions. That was why he never called them back the next day. Everything about it was completely fucked up and he knew that.
Why did he feel so strongly over Luna?
Why did his animal side imprint on her?
He still didn't understand his feelings and he struggled with the situation. He didn't understand the concept of an animal imprinting on a mate. It never crossed his mind because his wings were part of him. He never thought that because part of him was a bird he would have an intense bird tendency. It was still foreign to him regardless of his quirk, he'd probably never understood them. His wings were a symbol of justice to some people but to him he really didn't know. They were in some ways a prison to the Herp Society but freedom when he got to fly. It was a liberating feeling to soar high in the air and no one could tell him to come down when he was. However, this imprinting business was completely out of his element.
Was it because she had a bird type quirk too?
He bit the inside of his cheek. This 'imprinting' is only going to get worse, isn't it?
Spring is going to kill him if that's the case. He shivered at the very thought of it.
Keigo shook his head of his thoughts and carried on to his destination. Once he arrived at Luna's apartment building he could see her sitting on her balcony. From far away she looked like a pretty bird in a cage. She was wearing shorts with a nice pink blouse and her hair was down. He flew over so he was in front of her. She smiled at him brightly as he reached his hand out for her to grab.
"Ready?" he raised an eyebrow.
"Of course. You look handsome." she giggled softly.
"Thank you but I like you look absolutely gorgeous." he chuckled.
Luna slipped her headphones over her ears. "O-oh, thank you."
She took his hand with a bashful smile and he lifted her up into the air. He raised an eyebrow at her and gave her a quick wink before they flew off.
"What type of food did you have in mind, Little Owl?" Keigo hummed.
"W-what did you call me?" she flustered as she flew in front of him.
Keigo tilted his head with a smirk, "Little Owl? Don't like it? I did try the Pretty Bird nickname on you before. Thought I'd try a few more until you get really flustered with one."
"I'm not flustered!" her wings puff up a bit and she frowns.
"Oh? Alright. Let me say another one." Keigo moved in close to her ear and tucked her hair behind her ear. "Baby Owl."
Luna's wings puffed up more and shot up, making her stop mid flight. Keigo quickly grabbed her hand to keep her up in the air and he raised an eyebrow at her.
"Did you forget how to breathe there?" he chuckled.
"You!" she hit his arm with a flustered pout. "Stop teasing me."
They flew together for a bit until they reached the restaurant that Keigo picked. It was a more expensive place but he really liked the food there. Keigo called in advance to the restaurant to reserve a table that was far enough away from anyone. He wanted to have some privacy with Luna and didn't want any unneeded attention. Both of them followed the host to their table and Keigo pulled out a chair for Luna. She flustered a bit before she sat down, it made his heart flutter. Once he sat down across from her he stared at her for a moment.
"So, I've been meaning to ask you. You were talking to that Mirio kid about your folks. Can you tell me about them?" Keigo rubbed the nape of his neck.
"My parents? Well both of them live in the countryside. They moved there a few years ago." she smiled as she spoke.
Keigo smiled at her. "What do your parents do?"
"Oh, my dad is a painter! He's been painting as far as I can remember. I have a piece of his work hanging on my wall in my apartment." she beamed a smile and her eyes lit up. "He's so talented. I think I have a few photos on my phone that he sends me."
Luna quickly pulled out her phone from her purse and scrolled through it before turning it to him. There was a photo of a painting that looked like a flock of birds. All colors contrasted together very well. Keigo looked back up at her with a smile as she continued to hype up her father's work. This is the most energetic he's ever seen of her. She's usually so quiet or shy when she is around him.
It was nice to see her come out of her shell. Even if it was small.
"My mother likes to bake and craft in her free time. Dad loves to dote on her when she does." she giggled.
"Do your parents have quirks? I'm curious." he raised an eyebrow.
"Both my parents have bird quirks as well. My father has a humming bird quirk that allows him to move his wings so fast you can barely see them. It looks almost like he teleports from place to place."
"Wow, that's interesting I've never heard of something like that." Keigo raised an eyebrow. "He could be a Pro with that type of ability."
Luna let out a soft laugh. "Definitely but my dad was never interested in becoming a hero. From what my mother said he was too happy being a father and a husband."
He would give up being a Hero for his family?
"What about your mom?" Keigo asked as he took a drink of his cup.
"Oh, my mom has a Snowy Owl Quirk but unlike me she was only able to fly silently. I honestly don't know where I got the ability to manipulate wind with my wings. I don't have a Plus Ultra because I haven't adapted into it yet."
"Wait, you said your mother was only able to fly silently? Does she not use her quirk as much?" he asked as he set his cup down on the table.
For a moment he saw Luna's smile drop and her hand started to fidget against her fingers nervously. He looked back up at her confused but before he could say anything she cleared her throat.
"My mom got into a bad accident when I was young."
"Why type of accident?"
"It was.. ." Luna slipped her phone back into her purse. "My mom rushed into a burning building to save me."
"What happened?" Keigo asked.
"I've always been afraid of fire ever since I was younger and one time something happened in my house." She said as she bit her bottom lip. "Everything happened so fast and before I knew it the house was on fire. Me being a naïve child I panicked which caused me to breathe in smoke."
Keigo could only look at her.
"My mother apparently rushed into the burning building to find me. I don't remember much after she grabbed me. All I can recall was the heat of the fire and the intense color of it. When I woke up in the hospital with my mother we were informed that she took a hit from a support beam. It smashed her left wing severely." Luna looked down at her hands.
"Were they able to save her wing?"
Luna shook her head. "N-no, they had to amputate it. It was too far gone by the time she came to the hospital."
Keigo's heart dropped.
He couldn't imagine ever losing his wings and that very thought shakes him to his core. His wings were his bread and butter of his Hero Career. He bit the inside of his cheek before looking back at Luna. That's when his body froze as he looked at her, her pupils doubled in size like a real owl. She was completely silent as her black eyes stared off. This was only the second time he had seen her quirk have a bird tendency. The last few times it had happened was because she was aroused but this time was different.
"Luna?"
She didn't respond.
He gently reached his hand over to touch hers gently. She snapped out of her trance and looked up at Keigo. The pupils snapped back to its normal shape and returned her sclera to its normal golden color.
"O-oh, I'm sorry. I got lost in thought." she laughed nervously.
"Blacked out again?" He gave her a soft smile.
Luna could only smile. "Y-yeah, I didn't mean to."
"Wait, are you still afraid of fire?"
She paused for a moment before her wings dropped. "Y-yes."
"What do you think of Endeavor? Since his entire quirk revolves around fire and I do work with him from time to time."
"Oh, he's very intimidating. I've never personally met him but I've heard things."
That expression.
He knew that expression very well.
I shouldn't have pushed her to tell me about the accident.
The night continued with small talk as they waited for food to come to the table. Keigo ended up ordering for her because she didn't know what to get. He knew she was just scared of the prices on the menu. He didn't mind the price at all and he wanted her to pick whatever she wanted. Still, Luna was completely flustered at the gesture. Keigo loved how coy she got because it only meant he'd tease her more. As they ate their food after it came Keigo would steal glances of her. She was also a very coy eater and he thought it was adorable. Luna would catch him staring a few times and her wings would puff up a little as she looked away with a smile or a blush.
He wanted to know if she had an answer for him.
"So, baby owl, are you going to give me an answer?" Kiego whispered as he rested his chin on his hand.
Luna's wings puffed up. "You want one now?"
"Yes. You did tell me if I took you out on a date that you would give me an answer." he smirked as he looked at her.
"Yeah, that's true." she blushed.
"So?"
Luna flustered as she fidgeted with her fingers. "So, there's no doubt that we have an attraction towards one another."
"Yes, that is true." he nodded his head.
"But is it purely a sexual attraction that you feel for me?"
His heart raced.
Fuck.
"I wouldn't say it's just a sexual attraction. I'm not that much of an asshole to only want that from you. I know that's hard to believe the amount of times I have done things to you." Keigo rubbed the nape of his neck sheepishly.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't want you, Hawks." she played with the end on her hair and flustered.
"You want me? So you agree?" Keigo's wings puffed up a little bit as he asked.
"Don't get ahead of yourself. I'm still not done explaining myself to you." Luna's nail grazed the cup in front of her.
Keigo nodded his head.
"I...I want to get to know you better. I feel a connection with you that I can't explain. I know I'm going to sound selfish but I want more..." she flustered as she looked at the floor.
"More?" he whispered again.
She looked at him in the eyes.
"I just want something more than meaningless sex. I mean eventually I do."
"I'm sorry?" he smiled nervously as his heart pounded against his chest.
Luna's expression dropped at his response and she looked almost embarrassed for suggesting what she said. Keigo didn't like that look one bit.
"Not the response I wanted to hear." Luna's eyes looked down sheepishly.
Oh god.
Luna's expression turned into pure embarrassment.
Why the fuck did I say that?!
She whispered softly. "You don't want that, right?"
For some reason Keigo couldn't find his voice and he stared at her. Luna looked back at him until she started to look away with a frown. His stomach started to knot, he was fucking fuck and he couldn't find the nerve to respond. How can he answer her? Fucking answer her. His entire being wants everything from her. It wasn't just her body, he wanted her in general but deep down he was scared to admit to his imprinting. Fucking say something! Luna would find it weird if he brought that up. He looked back at her expression and his heart dropped. She was smiling at him but it was forced.
"Gosh, I feel so embarrassed."
Keigo's throat felt dry as he just sat there.
"We should stop things before it gets complicated." she nodded her head.
No wait...
Luna stood up from her seat. "Thank you for the meal..."
Stop!
He looked up at her and opened his mouth to say something but he couldn't. Luna looked back at him with a soft smile before turning away from him. Keigo's heart pounded against his chest. He was fucking everything up and he didn't know what to do. Luna sounded so hurt because he was being indecisive.
"I...I know I'm being selfish right now. I'm sorry." she said softly.
No, don't give me a forced smile.
"I will see you at work tomorrow and I promise I will continue to be professional under your wing."
Please.
Everything was moving in slow motion for Keigo. His eyes watched as she began to walk away from the table and towards the front door of the restaurant. Why couldn't he move his body? Why couldn't he tell her to stay? He bit his bottom lip before clenching his eyes shut. Keigo quickly threw some money on the table and got up from the booth. He made his way to the front of the restaurant and he looked around for any sign of Luna. There was no sign of her on the ground so he quickly fumbled to put his visor and headphones on before taking off to the sky. Knowing how late it was and how dark the sky was, Luna couldn't be too far away.
Keigo growled underneath his breath as he flew up higher and scanned the area with a frown. He was kicking himself for being such a moron. Luna must have gathered up all her courage to tell him that and here he was being a fucking moron. He froze when she spoke to him because he knew her words were genuine. It wasn't like those other women who were after his status or money. Was it because she was sincere that he got so scared? This was all new to him but he felt lost when it came to his feelings. He knew the imprint on Luna was there and he wanted her. Words couldn't describe the unanswered questions he had for her.
I'm such a fucking coward.
I just fucked everything up.
