Wandering Under the Sun

Chapter 6: Intentions

Hinata awoke before everyone else surprising his mates when he seemed eerily focused in the morning.

The tension in the unmarred omega was practically pricking through the air.

Hinata was wholehearted taking this day seriously and that made Kageyama's heart stumble over his little mate's passion.

In no time at all the day rolled over till they were there standing on the court. Hinata and Kenma eyeing one another one wearing a maniac grin the other slyly smirking back.

Those expressions held even after the game began. Past a blazing first rally till Hinata was risen high above slamming down a spike that bounced off Kenamas arms.

Then their grins and smirks only sharpened.

The challenge had been lain out and accepted.

Kenma set out to snatch the point right back using lev who towered over the opposing team. He was almost sadistically delighted in seeing that frustrated look on Hinata's face.

The push and pull of both teams were vicious from the get-go. Hinata was almost intently focused on everything absorbing it like the omnivore his team was named after.

It was an intense relay of a set watching point after point being pulled out from each side. The 'New Karasuno' washed away all the data from Nekoma's time with them. They all offered different things, but none more so than one of the smallest crows. Hinata moved, breathed, and reacted so different than what Nekoma had grown used to.

Kuroo nearly purred watching Hinata play, but his attention was also drawn to the flame-haired omegas blonde alpha. He molded that alpha into the blocking master he grew into, and Kuroo both reveled and despised the play tactically.

Kenma cringed at his mate's enraptured face. Win or lose he was going to regret the celebration with his mates later.

Though Something occurred to Kenma during the first match. Hinata was less wasteful of his energy, his skill all filtered in and out like he analyzed everything that came his way, just to overcome the next obstacle.

Kenma didn't share the same likening to Tsukishima as his mate Kuroo did. No the omega held a focused attraction to Hinata and Kenma could only say he was besotted with the idea that Hinata would surprise him over and over again.

He would admit he was less interested in playing when Hinata stepped out and his two mates were in his sight. He called the green-haired beta Tadashi and the blonde Kei but to Kenma they were just them.

Until they changed that first by Tadashi gaining a no-touch ace on them. Second, by that beautiful serve and block, they as a duo forced Nekoma to eat. Kenma purred softly his eyes gleaming. For a fraction he eyed Hinata's other two mates, maybe they would all entertain him like Shoyo.

Though Kageyama had yet to impress the setter Kenma now could not doubt the taller boy for opening the possibility up soon. Kuroo himself smirked looking to Tsukishima who was returning from giving his green-haired beta a high five.

"Hey Tsukki, how're you liking volleyball now?" Kuroo jolted when a heated gaze aimed his way and raked over his form.

"Thanks to you, once in a blue moon I enjoy it." The two alphas shared a heated stare that set Hinata off giggling, Yamaguchi blushing and Kageyama grumbling.

The game continued and the calm Lev threw off both Hinata and Tsukishima who were quite used to the tower of a teen following his gut much like Hinata of the past.

That was all suppressed when Kageyama and Hinata forced down a quick attack forcing Nekoma to swallow down the assault. The pair of them standing side by side sent a shiver of anticipation down everyone's spines. Kenma licked his lips now eyeing Kageyama, so the daring alpha too seemed to show off his good side here as well.

Kuroo too eyed Kageyama smirking down the alphas way. "I've always known Karasuno has had that monster. Kageyama, who seems to have finally come into owning that fact. Damn Kageyama's a badass." Kuroo sighed but his gaze blazed.

"It's almost unfair that Karasuno had all these delectable players." That comment earned Kuroo a smack from both Kenma and Yaku as his two mates shared a commiserating glance behind his pouting form.

When the game continued it was both Yaku and Kenma left in slight hungered awe as Kageyama set with one hand and Hinata was just suddenly there slamming the ball down.

Kenma though felt a tension set inside. His gaze settled on Kageyama, who eyed him back. It seemed to take down Shoyo, he first needed to take down the first demon.

They had to take out Kageyama.

Though that was just as much of a bite to their ass when they aimed to have him be the first touch. Everyone watched in awe as Azumane Asahi veered up to the challenge and forced a spike to ricochet off Kuroos palm flying too far away to save.

You could say Kenma took immense joy in wretching the first set from the hopeful Karasuno.

Their true tactic came to light. Nekoma was still targeting Hinata, making him hesitate on his run-up speed.

So Hinata played out in his mind and took to running up the front since all other areas were taken up. Kageyama and Hinata truly were a dream or a nightmare combo. You could see that as Hinata and Kageyama delivered an intense quick set from the front.

Kenma smiled at Hinata's back and gently called out to him. "Shoyo!" Hinata turned to look at Kenma who only smiled threateningly his way. "Stay interesting." Hinata jolted and jumped back his senses picking up the underhanded threat.

It only burned the fire in Karasuno's bellies when they lost the first set.

Hinata was not one to be underestimated. His will to push and jump and fly was above anything anyone before him faced. With Kageyama always at his side pushing him to not just compete with the opposing team but himself, he could not afford to hesitate or show any weakness. He could only climb and improve and deliver everything he could, no matter what.

Especially since Karasuno knew what was being done. Hinata had opened so many paths for them to get here and now...they would pay him back what he was due.

You would not be free to contain their demon duo, especially their fierce omega.

So, Kageyama found a way to work this out and push his mate into becoming better. With a high toss that gave his spikers all the chance, they would need. That gave Hinata his true opportunity to fight back.

With his new highest jump at his hand, Hinata reared his wings and flew. It happened then that Kenma saw it. Hinata was more without Kageyama now, he could see it when he aimed at the blocker's fingertips sending the ball flying far from any saving grace.

Hinata wasn't part of the demon and club with Kageyama. He was a demon with a demon.

Shoyo proved that he was different every single time he faced Kenma. Doing so, being so determined and pivotal in the competition as he was, Hinata helped Kurasuno yank the second set away from Nekoma.

They finally won a set from their rivals and it set the entire Karasuno team off because it was a first for them. It was such a small victory but sweet nonetheless.

The last set was a fight between them all. Each side so focused and pinpointed on just getting that next point. A flurry of fights claws and feathers hisses and caws until the ball landed on Nekomas court.

Declaring Karasuno the winner, because luck was on their side, and their wings took them a little higher than the cats could follow.

ABO

Hinata grinned at Kenma who was sprawled out across the court from him. The opposing omega grinned softly to him and Hinata only delivered a brighter smile back.

Kuroo cooed to his mate helping the happy teen stand and Hinata was immediately helped to his feet by Tadashi. Hinata internally flinched as his skin was sensitive and a bit overheated from playing so intently. Hinata stood though and hurried over so they could bow out.

When everything was settled Kenma trudged over and hugged Hinata tightly. The flame-haired omega was surprised but happy to get the hug from the other omega. The two had a peculiar friendship sprouting from the will to win.

Kenma may have not cared about the outcome but he was in it enough to want to win because Hinata was someone who drove you to that outcome. It was invigorating to feel the urge to not want to lose.

Healthy competition because no matter how much either side lost they both still had a good friendship.

Kenma frowned a breath when Hinata ran off after his team and Kuroo pulled his small mate to his side looking after the group that left.

"What's the wrong Kitten?" Kuroo asked gently he could see Yaku comforting their mate Lev who was devastated at having lost the match and finding that this was one of the last times he would play with Kuroo and Yaku in Highschool.

"Let's make sure everyone eats and rests, we have to watch Karasuno's next match," Kenma spoke almost subdued like he knew the outcome of the upcoming game. Kuroo raised a brow but didn't understand his own mate's trepidation.

ABO

Hinata stood stunned as Tsukishima was trying and failing to tug away from his little omega from his brother. Saeko stood between her mates and brother in law confused by the younger outburst.

Hinata was practically glowing in excitement talking to their third mate though, Tenma Udai, the former little giant of Karasuno. The flame-haired omega was talking a mile a minute to the older omega and Saeko saw her mate practically glow in embarrassment from the praise. His soft smile was still etched onto his face though and he looked to the younger teen and spoke easily.

This was the omega who had inspired Hinata to play but as if they both could understand a secret language Udai knew he had to be straight with the younger omega.

"Actually, I don't play volleyball anymore," Tenma spoke and Hinata sputtered for a moment.

"I had other things I wanted to do and stopped playing after high school. Plus, it's not like I had anyone scouting me for teams." He smiled but it wasn't bitter and Hinata pouted.

"Aww and here I was hoping to learn about some super-secret Ultimate attack or something." Tsukishima scoffed at his mate's idiocy.

"Like verbally or something stupid like that?" Hinata ignored Tsukishima's sarcastic quip and Kageyama called back to them.

"Oi, we gotta go." Hinata smiled apologetically and gave a swift goodbye before going to try and catch up with his sour-faced mate. Tsukishima and Yamaguchi in tow behind him.

Tenma couldn't hold back though. "Good luck and do your best, new little giant!" Hinata glanced back and waved before falling into silence watching Kageyama's back in contemplation.

"I wonder why, I don't feel really disappointed at all," Hinata spoke suddenly stopping all his mates in their tracks.

Kageyama turned forward and only spoke one word. "Finally."

ABO

Tsukishima frowned a moment, in having come to terms with his brother and the parallels between his brother's relationship with his mate and his own. In the time spent living with Hinata Kei understood the other teen well.

Hinata was caring and fully committed to volleyball.

Like Kageyama, you could not have them without volleyball being at the forefront of their omega in his pack was bound and determined to continue with the sport, and Kei knew for a fact this was going to become more jarring in the next coming years.

He was already attached to the omega and didn't know if he would be a good comfort for what was to come.

Though all thoughts of that were wiped away as the game was about to begin.

It took only a flurry of breathless moments for both Hinata and Korai to take a point each. The omegas were nearly snarling at one another and each team shifted to the mood.

The match would become an all-out slugfest and they all knew it.

Fastpaced was how the first match went. Despite Karasuno's efforts, Kamomedai took the first set in a blaze that had the crows hungry to exact revenge.

During their small break, Tsukishima was bombarded by an exuberant Suga.

"It's going to be a pain doing another three-set match," Kei grumbled more to himself but Sugawara heard him and chittered to his side before saying one last string of surprised comments.

"You're just like Hinata now." Tsukishima flushed and drooped trying to play off his embarrassment by being mean.

"Oh, that one hurt." Tsukishima looked defeated and Hinata huffed to his side.

"You are being sooooo rude Shima." The omega was pouting cutely making it worse for his silently flustered mate.

Tadashi was snickering and Kageyama was focusing while eyeing the omega. Hinata's bright attitude eased the team as usual but Kageyama couldn't help but feel something was.., off with the small middle blocker.

The team all zeroed back into the match once it started up again. The plays were quick and fast but Karasuo managed to secure the second set of the match. Especially since the three first-year regulars could finally show their cemented abilities. The unspoken bond the mates shared during the sport shown true time and time again.

This was the set Hinata had secured his fastest speed and highest jump. The omega had been so pleased he practically jumped his raven-haired mate praising him. "Do you have the hands of God!"

It wasn't the words he said that made Kageyama jolt and stare him down though.

The final set was almost blurring by in plays, points being taken from each side one after another. Hinata's zeroed in, his focus was jarring and it was easy to lose track of him from time to time.

Hinata's deceptions of moving between tempos and jumps threw everyone off with ease. He truly was the greatest decoy.

Hinata did not think he was amazing but that he was amazing because of others. Others like Kageyama could push what he offered and make it better than it once was.

Though standing in the heat of the moment having stolen that one second from the other blockers Hinata felt elation.

"I think..." Hinata spoke almost subdued catching Kageyama's attention and all others on the court while then prepared for the next set up. "If someone was going to give me a nickname. Then maybe The strongest decoy is a good one." Hinata smiled almost at peace with it but then looked to Kageyama and scrunched up his face. "I probably won't ever consider myself a decoy though."

Kageyama turned to trudge away. "I've been saying that all along though. The strongest decoy is cool. After the setter that is." Hinata shook his head huffing after his mate.

Tsukishima watched it all. The reformation of Hinata who once relied on just jumping and running to get to where he was.

"Don't go running away now, Tsukki," Kageyama spoke baiting his mate. Tsukishima clenched his fist cause he and Kageyama both knew.

Neither of them could bear to lose to Hinata. Even even though they all relied on the flame-haired omega as much as he relied on them.

So when Hinata received a spike and ran up to spike it down for their own team they were all in jubilation for the point.

Tanaka was grinning as he tried to help Hinata up who reached over excitedly. Like usual Hinata had their backs...then he collapsed.

Tsukishima jerked his eyes roving over his mate and Yamaguchi practically whimpered on the sidelines.

"He...probably has a fever. His brain and body have been switched on since the Nekoma game, maybe even before that." Kageyama spoke as Hinata struggled to stand up. Everyone froze and Tukishima narrowed his gaze panicked trying to remember Hinata still buzzing around the past few days. Not resting, at least not really.

Takeda sensei was sitting before Hinata very stern and serious. He was deft to the arguments Hinata was making. Hinata's tearful protest of being able to play was not being heard. His mates were all each silently praying he would just let it go this one time and go to the hospital. They were grateful Takeda sensei was being firm in his handling of their omega.

"Right now, you have a serious fever. You aren't like the others. You are smaller than the others and that means you must always be in peak condition." Takeda was looking intently at the younger omega.

"I understand it's frustrating, you never got to play in middle school and were hoping to push yourself to chase the experience here. I know it makes it all the harder to swallow...That's why I can't let you play in this match any longer." Hinata jerked in his seat but Takeda eased him down as the teen struggled to hold back his tears.

"You've said before that you would win a gold medal and not just one. Now you know that there are walls you can't overcome with reckless effort. When the time comes you will know that what you need are knowledge, logic, and thought." Takeda watched as Hinata lost himself and began silently sobbing.

"Hinata, the moment right here and now, this is also volleyball. Think about how to body will grow but in a sport like volleyball where everyone is so much bigger, you will always be little. You need to understand you will receive fewer chances than others because of that. You need to grasp those changes and make sure none of them can slip away from you. You of all people have to always be in peak physical condition. You will need to always be on the front line for when you do get a chance." Takeda watched Hinata stiffly nod and they switched out the omega for one of the more silent betas on the bench. Narita never really chatted with Hinata but patted the omega on the back as he walked past him to take his spot on the court.

"I'm sorry...I'm sorry!" Hinata was balling and Ukai gently pet the ginger's head before moving forward to give him some privacy.

Tadashi rushed over to help Hinata stand and Tanaka smiled softly. "Getting so excited you got a fever, what are you a baby." Tanaka grinned wide and Hinata hiccuped.

"He's always been a toddler Tanaka. I'm sure our little endurance monster will heal up with a good night's rest." Tsukishima let himself be soft despite his teasing words and kissed Hinata's brow as the omega struggled to stand.

"Don't you worry Sho, leave it to me and Narita!" Noya shouted excitable as always.

"It will be hard without you, there's no denying that." Hinata looked to Daichi who spoke and gently crooned to the distressed omega. "Hinata, we need you. So eat some food and rest up." Hinata cried and stumbled into Daichi's arms for a brief moment with Suga cooing at his side soft words of comfort.

"Hey, you get first dibs on dinner tonight!" Suga spoke softly and Asahi popped over to pat Hinata's back gently.

"Keep yourself warm." Was offered by the giant ace of their team but they all froze when Kageyama stepped forward.

"I'll be the one who stands the longest on the court. I win, this time too." The pair stared into each other's eyes an emotion none of them could decipher slipping between their gazes.

Hinata turned away and began to walk off the court.

"Hinata Shoyo! I'll be waiting for you!" Hinata turned to the other side of the court. Korai stared the other omega down, an omega who won his respect and Hinata bowed as Korai had earned his own from Hinata.

Hinata left the court heartbroken only to see Kenma who was smiling gently on the other side of the doors.

"Kenma, what are you doing here?" Hinata spoke softly and Kenma only smiled wider before moving forward as Yaichi came over to support Hinata.

"I came to cheer up a friend." Kenma saddled up to Hinata's other side and before Hinata could ask handed over an iPad to allow the flame-haired teen to watch the match.

Hinata was so grateful to have such good friends.

ABO

In the end, they lost. Hinata was taken out by fever and Tsukishima by a leg cramp. Losing both their offense and defense was Karasuno's damnation.

Hinata had been heartbroken and subdued days after holed up in his heat room. The only time he left after his illness was to congratulate the third year on their graduation. Suga ensured Hinata had him as a contact in case the younger had questions but other than that Hinata avoided everyone.

The flame-haired omega suddenly burst forth from his room one day though and despite the gobsmacked expressions of his mates ha made them breakfast and swiftly rode off.

Hinata had done a lot of thinking while he recovered. He cemented his plans and spoke to his parents before arriving at coach Ukai's store. He sat seriously for once before the older alpha and look of determination on the flame-haired omegas face.

"I want to switch over to beach volleyball after high school." Hinata had never seen Ukai look so serious at him but the man's expression was staring through him.

"Are you sure?" At Hinata's nod, Ukai pulled out his phone and looked to the small omega. "I might have someone who can help you."

Hinata went through days and weeks of talking with coaches until he wound up before Tanji Washijo. The elder man eyed Hinata before finally speaking.

"The time limit will be two years and you will need a year after high school to prepare yourself physically." Coach Washijo seemed to sigh once as if gathering himself before speaking once more. "You will always have to be bonded and...the government would insist on you having one child here. Omegas are so rare they don't want the risk you one of their own never returning."

Hinata's hands clenched and the teen gulped.

"You can use your second year to have a child and it won't even have to belong to your main den." Hinata knew that his community was full of children some of which looked so much like his omega mother and birth mother that it was almost impossible to not understand the implications.

"You will have to bond with your mates though. You will not be free to leave the country without their bites on your neck." Hinata eyed the older man and finally met his gaze firm in his decision.

"I'll do it."

ABO

Hinata's hands shook as he stared at the room to his shared dorm with his mates. He hated being an omega, all these rules, and ties that the government held him to but he would need to do this.

Stealing his nerves Hinata slipped through the door surprised to see his mates sitting down with various expressions of discomfort on their faces.

"Shoyo." Yamaguchi was the first to stand and pull Hinata into his arms. Hinata melted a little before being led to the couch. The omega knew he was being selfish but he hadn't realized he worried his mates this much.

The guilt that had already been eating at him made him finally confess.

"I want to train outside of Japan." The stunned silence suffocated the room and the omega was sure you could hear a pin drop. He's twisting his hands before he had even realized he was nervous and immediately stops.

Tsukishima is the first to do anything and moves swiftly kneeling his large frame to be face to face with Hinata.

"You know, when we were first matched, I wondered what kind of omega you would be." Gently he carted his large hand through Hinata's bright orange locks. "I wondered if you would want to be a stay-at-home parent or one of those omegas who does their duty so they would be free to follow their dreams." Hinata wanted to protest because he was sure he would want to settle down and have kids and mother one day but was cut off with a soft kiss coming from Tsukishima.

Hinata felt the soft press of lips and it lingered but it was nice and made him blush. Tsukishima pulled back and continued what he was thinking"I realize you might want both one day though. That for now, we will need to be supportive so you can obtain your dreams."

The flame-haired omega began to tear up and Yamaguchi was cooing to him telling the teen it was alright. Kageyama on the other hand was eerily silent.

Hinata shivered feeling his glare on him but Kageyama's hand was immediately in his hair mussing it up. "You better come back an actual challenge if you're going to make us suffer through years without you." Hinata smiled and sniffled trying to get out the next bit.

"Fine, thank you for being caring but I have to finish." He rubbed his eyes and gathered his courage. "I can't leave this country unless I follow through with two acts to appease the powers that control us... that control omega." Hinata wilted a moment.

"I have to be bonded to my pack. Not that I don't want to it's just we never really do that kind of stuff." Hinata was blushing a bit because sex was never a topic that was ever really brought up.

Tsukishima smirked and Kageyama leered at their omega. The two alphas had been very eager to push those boundaries since they first obtained their ruts. Yamaguchi just blushed but he too had been eager to sample his own mates.

"I also need to have a baby...but they said it doesn't have to be for our den if you guys aren't ready." Hinata shrunk in on himself but you could practically taste the lust in the air.

Their omega was willing to breed and on a primal part of their minds it was a delicious thought but they had to think things through.

"Understood," Tsukishima spoke but his voice was horse and deep.

Tsukishima and Yamaguchi pulled back but Kageyama was frowning. "We are...too young to have any kids." Kageyama was being level-headed for them, talking them all down.

Hinata was nodding tears in his eyes before he glanced up to meet his blue-eyed mate's gaze.

"Yeah, and we still barely know one another." Hinata gave a soft laugh nearly choking on his tears. "I can't risk pregnancy in the last two years before I leave though, it needs to be this year." Hinata's watery eyes made each of his mates flounder briefly.

"I might have a solution." This time it was Yamaguchi who spoke but his face was anything but promising.

ABO

It took several days of talking but the young den wound up in the doctor's office of Tsukishima Niomi. Their mother-in-law and Tsukishima's birthmother.

Hinata was shifting nervously in his seat and Yamaguchi was holding his hand gently. Niomi cleared her throat settling down several folders in front of the omega. Kageyama was leaning against the wall arms crossed but focused on the conversation. Tsukishima himself was already lifting the first file and reading it over.

"It will be done through IVF, In vitro fertilization. It will be an open adoption and the den will be all too happy to have you see the child once you give birth." Hinata stiffened but gave a terse nod.

Niomi smiled gently at Hinata an unknown emotion swimming in her gaze. "You're doing a den out there some good, there are many of them who don't have omegas. Many who are not part of the communities with an omega, you are helping people out there. Some families are desperate for children and thanks to you another family out there will get that wish." Hinata flushed and nodded but looked away from that searching gaze.

"You will have to be bonded through before I can do the procedure." Shoyo's head snapped up and his hands started to twist in nervousness.

"Your appointment will be scheduled before you return to classes. The files before you are informed on the future den you will be granting a child to." Tsukishima was finally reading through the last of the files and shook his head in surprise.

"This guy is Nicollas Romero, he's a foreigner but has ties with mates living in Japan." Tsukishima was surprised and Hinata perked up as did Kageyama.

"You mean volleyball, Romero!" They both spoke at the same time excited and Yamaguchi had to reign in his amusement. Tsukishima was looking over the files a moment and nodded to his mother.

"A volleyball pro for my volleyball idiot. Thank you." Tsukishima knew his mother had worked hard to find a family that would work the best for this situation.

Tsukishima's mother smiled gently at her son and shook her head. "Make sure you guys use this time wisely. You need to bond before your mate has to go through this. It's for all of your mental and primal stability." Niomi set out another pamphlet of information before the den.

"You are all strong, resisting each other and the call for your instincts to bond. Sex is not necessary but you all have to have this bond settled or the IVF will drive your omega crazy. Hinata will be run by instincts and without the bond in place beforehand he will see you all as threats to the unborn child inside him. You are his mates and there is no bond connecting you all, he will be hormone-driven. You need to be his support through it all to steady him and yourselves." Niomi grew solem and stern.

"He will be carrying another's child and your alphas will take that as a threat without the bond in place. You already feel it now I know, the urge to hide your omega and claim him. Imagine how much worse you will act when he's carrying and it's not yours. You need some claim over him for your alphas to feel secure." The room had grown silent over the talk and all the mates met each other's eyes before Hinata finally looked up from his hands.

"I will do it." Hinata was blushing but firm.

Yamaguchi settled his hand gently on the omegas back. "I will as well."

"Finally." Tsukishima eased back in his chair his hounding nerves and instincts could finally settle. Kageyama too seemed to relax at the promise of bonding.

It would seem the two alphas were just waiting for the consent of their omega and beta.

"Good, I'm going to prescribe you medication and ask you to come in for a check-up tomorrow. Other than that please spend some time with one another." Niomi

"Make sure you are doing this sacrifice and using this opportunity to the furthest extent you can." Mrs. Tsukishima smiled softly and left the den alone to grasp onto themselves.

Hinata's future was settled now, now he just had to see if he could live with himself after it was all over.

Thank you for reading my work!
