Shopping Day
Chapter 6: Playful Antics
I love Kyle. He is a great friend, and a good roomie. He's a party animal, always out where the action is. But in the end, I care about him as much as he does me. We do things together as friends often do. Today was the day we make a trip to the mall or the local shopping plaza to buy things for the apartment, and there are things that are a bit lacking
I'm never one to buy anything that is too risqué. I draw the line at clothing items such as skinny jeans, or maybe a speedo with a cool pattern on it. I'll never wear a male thong. I feel like I'm too short, I don't have the build for it, and it will give others the wrong idea. He seems to understand my reasons. It doesn't stop him from giving me a playful tap.
In my morning routines, I'm usually the one who wakes up first. I pulled up a pair of skinny blue jeans, and my green and blue 'Earth Day' t-shirt. I was making from scrambled eggs in the kitchen when I was gently embraced from behind by a teddy bear of a puma-bobcat hybrid. Kyle was still in his shorts this morning. Going to the mall is fun with Kyle
"Grr...I'm going to eat you" he purred
"Hey Kyle" I replied, giggling in his embrace
"Want me to make some toast?" he offered
"Sure," I accepted, he let me go and pulled out the loaf of Dave's Killer Bread 'White Bread Done Right'. Kyle likes that brand. The eggs were done as the golden bread popped from the toaster. I slid a portion of eggs for each of us from a nonstick pan to the plates. I put down his plate, and my plate at a table. Kyle has a nice smile to go with his looks.
To say both thank you and to tell me that he likes what he sees in the form of my bubble butt in my skinny jeans, he gave me a playful tap in the butt to make a wiggle as I was walking over to the kitchen put the pan in the sink, "Do you want coffee or juice with breakfast?" I asked seeing the Sun Tropics Kalamansi Lime and Dalandan Juice in the fridge
"Let's go with juice today" Kyle requested, I smiled and nodded to him. That tap in the butt has resulted in spilled coffee in the past. We all make mistakes, and stuff will always just happen at the wrong time, or you do antics at the wrong moment. I forgive him because neither me nor Kyle nor anyone in the world is completely perfect, "I like the jeans"
"Thanks, a Christmas gift from Dad"
"Your dad's from Europe, right?" asked Kyle
"Yeah, he's Dutch" I said with a smile,
"The guy's got taste," said Kyle, I'm a Filipino-Balinese that was raised by a Vietnamese 'Insular Seal' Mom and a Dutch 'Harbor Seal' Dad. I was four when I was given up. They couldn't have pups of their own, and so they adopted me. My mom works in the mining industry and my dad works for a brewery. I couldn't ask for a better family to be raised in
Kyle was in his black Dickies and a button-up shirt with a t-shirt underneath. I was going to get a new pair of shoes today. That's the main priority. After breakfast and cleaning up, we headed out the door. Kyle was going to be driving the Nissan today. The taste of buttered toast was still on my palate as I got into the passengers seat of our old reliable.
"As good and as faithful as this Nissan is, we're going to have to get a new car one day," said Kyle, I smiled and shrugged to say that it's true, "still, it will be a sad day to let this one go," he added, there are other and more modern cars out on the freeway. Our Nissan was beginning to get a bit of rust at the tips of the fenders, but he's still driving strong
"Any ideas on a replacement?" I asked
"Not sure, really" said Kyle behind the wheel
"I saw an ad for an Acura TL Type-S" he added
"That sounds like a cool car, maybe if the ad's still up, we can look at it" I offered as a suggestion. Kyle turned an eye to me, and smiled as he placed a gentle paw on my thigh. I maybe just his roomie, but it shows he cares. Kyle even added a light little scratch to emphasize his point further. We soon made it to the mall. A huge place 5 miles from home
I won't call him my boyfriend. Like I said, he's not the commitment type and he is touchy-feely. I get a rare benefit with him when he feels like it, but he's Kyle. He is my friend, and I wouldn't want him any other way, "Say, Nico? What do you say we order a pizza today?" he asked, I nodded, this is one of those things we do once every two months or so
"Sounds like a plan," I agreed and we walked into the mall. The sounds of crying pups and gossiping preteen girls filled the air which smelled of popcorn and childhood nostalgia. Music by Carl Carlton, Belinda Carlisle, Tom Petty or Steve Perry was playing on the speakers. We stopped in the food court, "so, we'll meet back here in say two hours?" I stated
"That should be good" said Kyle,
"Looking to get anything?" I asked,
"I'm running a bit low on dress pants" said Kyle
"Alright, have a good shop" I said, and went off on my own for a new pair of shoes. I looked back, and smiled at Kyle as I went into the crowds of people of all species. It did not take long to find the shoe store, or a 'Finish Line' to look around in. All the famous brands, all the famous names, but I am looking for a basic pair of shoes that go with anything
It didn't take long, and with the help of a very pretty Secretary Bird employee, I found myself a new pair of shoes. I don't blame her for thinking I'm a little pup. I found a pair of classic Adidas three-stripe shoes in the famous black with white stripes, "How come you're buying shoes by yourself, did you steal your mom's Amex?" she asked with a wily grin
This happens to me a lot at the store, or at the mall when I go shopping. It's not annoying to me. I lightly shook my head to her with a grin on my face. She raised an eyebrow to me as she looked at the American Express card under my name, "A'ight pup, I ain't falling for this, let's see some ID" she requested, I lightly giggled, handing her my license
"Wait a minute, you're eighteen?" she asked
"Youth runs in the family" I replied
"Don't worry about it, it happens to me all the time" I said in understanding of the situation. With the receipt in the bag, and a new pair of shoes to wear, I feel like there's one other thing she can help me with since I don't go to the mall very often, "excuse me, do you know of a good store around here wear I can buy a swimsuit?" I asked her curiously
"Sure, try the 'Water, Water Everywhere', it's five shops down, and on the right" she replied, I smiled and nodded as I made my leave of the store. She gossiped with another lady saying how cute I was. I walked through the mall with the directions she gave me, and found the store. I walked in looking to buy a new pair of swim trunks, or swim briefs.
I like to dive when I'm at the pool. I'll never go professional, nor do anything fancy. A nice forward dive off a platform or springboard is enough for me. To me, it's just for fun. I snooped around the racks of swimsuits from women's one piece swimsuits to men's trunks and jammers. Nothing was standing out until I found one in the store 'bargain' section
'This is nice' I thought to myself,
"Can I help you find anything?" asked an otter
"I'm fine, thank you," I replied with a smile,
She smiled back, "Well, if you need anything let me know," she said, and went back to the counter to talk with one of her friends. I found a pair of Speedo 'Tye Dye' Solar Briefs in 'Ibiza Blue' that looked to be in my size. These should look nice by the poolside, or at the beach. Seeing the 'red price tag' on it was a good sign, and I went to go try them on
I undressed, and I put them on in the fitting room. They were a perfect fit. I took them off, and got back in my clothes to look around for anything else. It might be my second swimsuit I ever bought, but it's progress for new things in my drawers and closet. I paid for it, and went to the food court to wait for Kyle. It did not take long for him to find me.
"Find what you were looking for?" he asked, I showed him the shoes and the speedo that was on sale, "oh, this is cute, you should wear it when we go to the pool or something" he suggested, I nodded as we exited the mall. Kyle got himself a few pairs of nice dress pants. Those will look good on him. Black really is his color, and good guys dress in black
"Still on for pizza?" I asked as we walked out
"Mushroom, sausage, and bacon" replied Kyle
"And maybe some ricotta cheese?" I added,
Kyle is a very nice guy, but don't get him mad. He more than just goes to the gym to socialize and flirt. He practices MMA, and he's quite good. He has my back, and I have his. I maybe little, but I too pack a punch and a kick. Kyle chuckled, and he lightly scratched the top of my head. I've had rare spats with Kyle in the past, but it is over small things.
One great trait I admire in Kyle is his self-control. He has never hit me, though he has come close to doing so, and I have never hit him. Sometimes all it takes is one strike, and everyone around you is going to see the bruise and think you are abusive. Like cursing, hitting will make the scenario worse. That's why I will never use my martial arts to attack
We got home, and I opened up my new shoes and placed them in the closet by the door. Kyle was dialing the local pizza place, and I was walking over to my room to replace my skinny jeans with some black and white plaid pajama pants. The day is over, but there were still things that needed to be done during this week. One of them was 'Laundry Day'.
"It should be here in twenty minutes" he said
"Cool" I smiled, getting started on the dishes
"I cannot ask for a better roomie" he purred
You would think he would say something along the lines of me being short, cute, and with a plump little bubble butt that fits a young pup of my size, and a good fit for a speedo. There's more to it, "You're always pulling your weight around this flat, you were raised well, I'll give props to your mom" he said as I scrubbed a nonstick pan of scrambled eggs.
"My mom always said, whatever you do, do a good job, you should be the only judge for the quality of your work" I recited from all the times I did work around the house, and my mom would find something that I missed. Of course, my dad would side with her. Mom didn't expect straight-As in school. My grades came from the fact that I liked to learn.
She never did crack the academic whip across my back. Mom rarely curses. She doesn't get easily frustrated when things go wrong. That's probably why her marriage to my dad has lasted this long, "My mom says the same thing, she curses more and gets easily frustrated, the thing is if she's not 'in control' then it's wrong" stated Kyle, and I do pity him
"Is that why you lived with your dad?" I asked
"Pretty much" Kyle said with a light shrug
"There's more to it" Kyle said with a light sigh
"It was a sunny day, I was fourteen and I was helping her in the garden putting in some new plants in the yard, she placed down where she wants the plants, and I put them in, three hours later, I was done...or so I thought" explained Kyle "she inspected them, and turned to me and said: 'I don't like it, do them all again'," my eyes widened at that part.
"I was tired, and I placed each plant exactly where she wanted it, I asked her: 'do you know how long that's going to take?' Her eyes widened, and she shook her head and said: 'I don't give a fuck, do it again now' I stood up to her for the first time, I told her to stop talking to me like that, it hurts my feelings, and the neighbors can hear her" Kyle added
"She said and I quote: 'I don't give a shit about your feelings, if you did a better job planting I wouldn't have to be talking like this, grow up', that's when I drew the line, I took off my gloves, packed my things, and walked out and I never looked back" he concluded, he gently held my hand and gave him a hug, "like I said, I'm blessed to have you, Nico"
"Things were better with your dad?" I asked
"Oh, much better" said Kyle with a grateful smile
"Did she even apologize to you?" I asked
"Nope" Kyle said simply, and there soon came a knock at the door "hey, pizza's here" he said, walking up to the door. Kyle always has a good time with my parents when I bring him over to their house in the summer or during the holidays. I met his dad too a couple times. The bobcat's a really nice guy. I can see why he left his mom to go live with him.
