After launching the missiles, Camille and Charlie sat down by the campfire while Bellamy went looking for his sister. Most of the camp had gone to bed a long time ago and Camille had fallen asleep on Charlie's shoulder. While she, for her part, could not sleep. She couldn't think of anything other than the sword of Damocles hanging over 300 people. She was looking up at the sky when she heard a conversation coming from a tent beyond.
"...might be dying on The Ark makes it pretty hard to sleep"
Charlie rolled her eyes when she heard Clarke's voice. How could anyone be as hateful as her. Charlie wondered who she was talking to and the response came as the person replied "Raven's flares will work"
It was Bellamy. Clarke was making him feel guilty again and it made Charlie tense and pissed off. Feeling her stir, Camille woke up rubbing her eyes as Clarke added "Her radio would've work better"
Charlie gave Camille a tight smile before putting her hands over Camille's ears. She frowned in misunderstanding but closed her eyes when Charlie yelled "Clarke shut up!"
Camille shook her head with a grin. Charlie's hatred of Clarke was quite entertaining. She was lucky to have plugged her ears because the last thing to do was to scream in Camille's ears as soon as she woke up. Unless you want to lose your head.
Clarke turned to the girls, looking annoyed. But she didn't have time to reply as Bellamy spoke again, "Have you seen Octavia?"
"No. It's Octavia. She's probably chasing butterflies, or-" replied Clarke but Bellamy cut her off "Clarke, I've checked the camp. She's not here."
"Sounds like your problem" she replied before entering her tent. Charlie squeezed her jaw. Selfish bitch. Camille stood up and stretched before walking towards Bellamy "Come on, we'll help you find her"
Charlie stood up and hissed, "Yeah, let's check again. Bellamy, you go to the dropship. Camille and I will check the rest of the tents ". Bellamy nodded and whispered "Thank you".
Camille smiled and said "We'll find her" before the three went their separate ways. The girls checked all the tents but Octavia was nowhere. They returned to Bellamy and informed him that the search had been in vain. He hadn't found it either. He then decided to wake up the camp.
The teens finally got out of their tents and Bellamy yelled at the crowd, "Hey. Everybody, gather around and grab a weapon ". People did as Bellamy added, "My sister's been out there alone for 12 hours. Arm up. We're not coming back without her. "
Charlie saw Clarke hold back Jasper and she decided to come over "Hey Jasper, you don't have to do this. You haven't left camp since we brought you back "said Clarke
"Clarke, I need to do this" replied Jasper
"We need all the people we can get," said Bellamy, approaching the group. Charlie put her arm around Jasper's and gently shoved him "Don't worry, we've got your back" she said, nodding her head at Camille. Jasper smiled at her and nodded, sounding reassured.
"We need a tracker. Finn, get out there. " added Bellamy. A silence took place. Finn did not come out of the tent he had been in with Raven since the start of the evening. Camille rolled her eyes and stared mischievously at the tent. Charlie chuckled when Bellamy spoke again "Finn, we're leaving"
The girls followed Bellamy after hearing Finn say "All right, I'm coming". Camille waited for Finn to come out of the tent before starting to walk. Charlie was already further away, next to Jasper. Finn walked over to Clarke and held her back to talk to her. Camille decided to intervene and moved closer to the couple. She then pushed Finn forward violently, "We said:' we're leaving '!"
Finn stumbled and gasped in surprise. Camille stared at him with a smirk but he didn't say anything. He then turned and left, after giving Clarke one last look. She stepped forward and thanked Camille who shrugged her shoulders in response. Clarke was about to speak when a voice called out "Guys, guys, come here!"
Camille ran next to Jasper and Charlie when another boy said "What is that? It's so bright ". The girls lifted their heads and stared at the sky. Hundreds of lights moved across the sky like shooting stars. Charlie frowned when Raven said, "They didn't work. They didn't see the flares "
"A meteor shower tells you that ?" asked Bellamy
"It's not a meteor shower. It's a funeral. Hundreds of bodies being returned to Earth from the Ark. This is what it looks like from the other side." said Clarke
Charlie's heart skipped a beat and a tear rolled down her cheek. Her gaze met Bellamy's regretful one. He started to approach her when Raven shouted at him, "This is all because of you!"
"I helped you find the radio !" replied Bellamy
"Yeah, after you jacked it from my pod and trashed it !" shouted Raven.
Charlie walked over and stood next to Bellamy. "Actually, I threw it in the river. Stop lashing out at him. I blame myself and I know he blames himself. It's not like we wanted to kill these people. So now shut up and deal with it. "
Bellamy nodded and added "All I know is, my sister is out there and I'm gonna find her. You coming or what ?"
"Yeah" replied Clarke
"Then what are we waiting for ? Move out" shouted Bellamy and the girls followed quickly.
Looking for someone in the night was not the easiest thing. Even though they used torches to try to see more clearly. Charlie nearly fell on a branch, but Bellamy caught her before she hit the ground. "I always knew you would fall for me someday," he said. Charlie chuckled and slapped his chest when they heard a guy call them.
They quickly walked over to the boy and Bellamy asked "What is it?"
The boy, who turned out to be John, replied, "Right there. Do you see it? Is that Octavia's? "
Charlie narrowed her eyes hoping to see something, but nothing. Apparently, an object that could have belonged to Octavia was in the ditch in front of them.
"Rope" said Bellamy and a boy handed one to him. Finn walked over and asked "What are you doing ?"
"I need the rope to get back up." Bellamy replied before turning to John and asking for a flashlight. Then he descended into the ditch, helped by the rope, before heading towards the object. He took it in hand and shouted "It's hers"
Charlie didn't wait any longer before descending after Bellamy. Camille and Jasper quickly followed suit. When they got near him, they saw him light up her hand. He had blood on his fingertips. "Someone else is here" said Bellamy.
There were footprints on the ground and Finn leaned over Jasper's shoulder. "The prints are deeper going that way. He was carrying her "he said
Charlie focused on the difference between the two prints Finn showed. This kind of knowledge could prove useful in the future. Jasper pulled her out of her contemplation saying, "If they took her, she's alive. Like when they took me. "
Camille gave Jasper a worried look. She worried about him, especially since he hadn't said a word earlier during the search. Despite the fact that Charlie and Camille were trying to start a conversation to distract him. Camille shook her head and followed the group as they began to track down the footprints.
They came to a separate path. Charlie gasped at the sight of skeletons hanging from the trees. There were some on both sides of the path, like a lovely little welcoming committee.
"I don't speak Grounder but I'm pretty sure this means 'keep out' !" said Finn
Several people behind them started to groan and get scared. Charlie sighed when she saw them turn back to return to camp. Bellamy shook his head and said "Go back if you want. My sister, my responsability. ". He walked confidently towards the path. Camille shrugged her shoulders and began to follow her.
"I'd walk into hell to find her," Jasper said before doing the same. Charlie gave him a tender look before imitating him.
They walked for hours and hours, so that the day finally broke. Charlie stretched slightly and held back a yawn. Her mood dropped even more when she heard Finn say, "I got nothing. We lost the trail "
"We? Excuse me spacewalker, YOU lost the trail. Really no use, "Camille said, although she whispered the last sentence. Charlie smirked while Bellamy ordrered "Keep looking".
"Wandering aimlessly isn't the way to find your sister. We should backtrack" replied Finn
"I'm not going back !"
The argument that was about to begin was interrupted by Zoe."Hey, where's John ?"
Everyone looked around frantically "I just saw him a second ago" said Jasper
"Spread out. He couldn't have got that far" replied Bellamy
"Spread out ? We just lost someone who was litteraly with us. Spread out doesn't seems like a good idea Bell !" said Charlie
He was about to respond when a loud bang was heard. They all went back to the origin of the noise to see that it was John. He was now on the ground, his throat slit. Camille quickly approached the body before saying "They used the trees!"
"We souldn't have crossed the boundery ! Now can we go back ?" asked a boy.
"There, right there," Jasper said, pointing to a man standing still at the end of the forest. Charlie frowned. Why wasn't he attacking? She heard some talking and turned to see another grounder running through the forest. Looking around, she saw another stand staring at them.
"We should run" said Finn
"Wait, it's weird. They're clearly enough to take us down. Why aren't they attacking? It's probably a trap "said Charlie
Bellamy nodded and motioned for everyone to be on their guard before running off. The whole group followed and Charlie's heart raced when she heard the Grounders do the same.
They had been running for a few minutes and the Grounders seemed to still be following them. "Keep running!" shouted Bellamy
"I can't run much longer!" Said Jasper and Camille immediately slowed down to stay by his side as Charlie tripped over a boy who replied "I'm not stopping for him!" He crashed to the ground as Bellamy said, "I'm sick of running anyway."
He suddenly stopped and turned to face the potential grounder. Camille winked at Charlie and nodded with a smirc. The boy got up quickly and glared at Charlie before taking Bellamy's arm. "What are you doing?"
"They know where she is," replied Bellamy.
What followed quickly: two of the teens disappeared and they heard Roma scream. They ran in her direction to find the boy, dead. They then ran after Roma when they heard her scream again. Unfortunately, they found her dead too. Out of exasperation, Jasper yelled and threatened the grounders, signaling their presence. The grounders appeared all around them and came running towards them when a horn blowing was heard.
"They're leaving" said Bellamy
"What does that mean ?" asked Jasper
"Acid fog" replied Finn. Bellamy started frantically to pull a tent out of his bag.
"We have to run" said Zoe but Finn replied "There's no time"
Finn took the tent from Bellamy's hands and spread it to the ground. Then he slipped under it and told the others to do the same. Camille seemed reluctant to have to stick under a tent near Finn but Charlie urged her to hurry. They settled down as best they could and waited in silence. After a moment, Bellamy huffed and stretched his hand outside the tent. He frowned then stuck his head out.
"There's no fog" he said.
"Maybe it was a falsh alarm" said Finn
Camille heard a noise in the forest and saw a silouette running "They're coming back"
They looked around but no other grounder was visible "I think he is alone" said Jasper.
"He doesn't see us" said Bellamy "I'm going after him"
"Right now ? And then what ?" asked Finn "Kill him ?"
"No. Catch him. Make him tell me where Octavia is, then kill him" Bellamy replied before heading towards the grounder.
"How do we know he's not leading us into another trap ?" asked Jasper
"We don't" answered Charlie
They all followed Bellamy and eventually came to a cave entrance. They broke into it and discovered Octavia, hanging on by chains and the grounder lying in front of her, unconscious.
"Damn" Camille whispered as Bellamy rushed over to his sister. He took the key from the floor and quickly untied her from the chains. Camille walked over to check on Octavia's condition as Charlie checked the grounder. Why keep Octavia in chains when they killed Roma so easily? Something was weird.
Once detached, Octavia threw herself into her brother's arms and then into those of Jasper.
"How did you find me" Octavia asked
"I followed him" replied Jasper
"We should go. Now. Before he wakes up." said Octavia, frantically
"He's not going to wake up"
"Bellamy, stop ! He didn't hurt me. Let's just go."
"They started this. Finn, move" replied Bellamy. Finn was hunched over the grounder and whispered "Foghorn"
Before anyone could react, the grounder awoke and stabbed Finn. Charlie gasped and Bellamy pounced on him to stop him. But the grounder took over and stood over him with a spear close to his throat. Charlie picked up a large rock and knocked the grounder down, who collapsed to the ground.
"Karma is a bitch" Camille whispered, looking at Finn on the ground. She rushed to help him anyway.
Camille and Jasper supported Finn with one of his arms each on their shoulders. Charlie helped Octavia walk as she had an injured leg. The road to the camp seemed endless when they finally arrived.
Jasper rushed in, shouting Clarke's name. She landed running quickly and froze as Finn arrived. Raven followed quickly and gasped. Clarke put her finger on Finn's throat "He's alive"
"Bellamy wouldn't let me take the knife out" said Jasper
"No, that was a good call." replied Clarke "Get him into the dropship. Now ! Go !"
"Clarke, can you save him?" asked Raven
"No, not me. I need my mother. I need to talk to her."
"There's still no radio"
"Raven fix it ! Go" shouted Clarke before running off to the dropship. Octavia got out of Charlie's grip and tried to walk on her own. Bellamy quickly approached, "Whe were you defending him?"
"Because he saved my life. The spear that hit Roma-"
Bellamy cut her off "No. You're wrong. I saved your life. For all I know, he was keeping you alive to use you as bait for one of their traps"
"No. I don't think so-"
"You don't think, O. That's the problem. They killed three of our people today. And if you had let me kill him when I had the chance Finn wouldn't be in there dying right now."
"Stop blaming me for your mistakes ! What happened to Finn is not my fault ! I wanted to leave ! So if Finn dies in there, that's on you !" shouted Octavia. The tone grew more and more and Charlie and Camille eyed the argument dubiously, not knowing what to say or do.
"Octavia! Come on, chill "Camille tried but was ignored as Octavia continued" Everything that's gone wrong is because of you. You got me locked up on the Ark. You wanted me to go to that stupid dance! You got mom killed! "
"Oh my god ! Octavia !" said Charlie and Bellamy shook his head, shocked at his sister's words.
"Me ? Mom was floated for having you. She's dead because you're alive. That was her choice. I didn't have a choice. My life ended the day you were born"
Charlie and Camille gasped. It has gone too far. Octavia walked towards the exit of the camp but Bellamy held her back by the arm. "Where do you think you're going?"
"You can't keep me locked up in here forever" she replied before pulling herself out of his grip and heading in the other direction.
Camille nodded at Charlie before following Octavia. Bellamy ordered those who were out of the camp to go inside because a storm was coming.
"Bellamy, are you okay?" asked Charlie soflty. He nodded softly and Charlie huffed, knowing he was lying. "Come on, let's go inside"
