Judy marched down the hallway, her heart beating hard as she turned to see the face of her imposter through the bars of her cell. Nick arrived just behind her.
"Tell me," Judy demanded, "Who are you, and how do you get my DNA?"
The rabbit looked up at Judy, a sly grin on her face. "Haven't you figured it out?"
Judy looked at the prisoner, trying to read her expression. It was so uncanny, almost as if she was starring at her own reflection, but with years of dark secrets hiding inside for which Judy could only scratch the surface of uncovering.
"A-are you a clone?" Judy asked, "Who made you? What is your purpose? What did they want with me?"
The rabbit inside the cell just merely shook her head. "You haven't figured it out. I'm you sweetheart. You from the future."
Judy went still. She couldn't speak. Thankfully, Nick took over.
"Tell us. Tell us how you got here."
The Judy from the future shrugged, "You already know how it starts. You and that taser of yours."
Judy's breath caught in her throat.
"Yes," the future Judy said, "It all started one fine day when I was chasing a giraffe. I hopped onto his leg, but I couldn't stop him. There was only one thing I could think of doing, I took out my taser, pointed it up and fired."
Judy from the future took a pause for dramatic effect.
"Once I got back to the station, Nick wasn't happy. He thought I used the taser irresponsibly, and tried to take it away. I refused, and I accidentally fired it, right into Clawhauser." Judy from the future sighed, "I should of handed it over then, but I didn't."
"B-but," Judy from the present was shocked, "I handed over the taser, I didn't keep it!"
The Judy from the future looked up at Judy from the present, "That's because before you fired at Clawhauser, before you fired at the giraffe, you first fired at Nick. Without my interference from the future, it never happened that way for me."
Judy from the future paused before going on. "I never stopped using that taser. Again and again, with every case, I would fire it, always aiming for the same spot. It was quick and effective, though it" Judy made a sly grin "always worked best on the males.
"My colleagues began to notice, and finally it went to far. Chief Bogo fired me.
"After that, I began to hang with the wrong crowd, I continued to escalate, until finally, I became the dumb bunny you see before you now."
Judy from the present's heart was beating so hard, she had to struggle to get out the next words, "What happened then?"
"Well," Judy from the future stated, "By then, somebody had invented time travel. Nick arrested me, but instead of bringing me to justice as his duty mandated, he broke every code in the book and sent me back into time."
Nick looked at the future Judy, he couldn't help from asking although he already knew the answer, "And why would I do that?"
The future Judy looked him straight in the eyes, a softness that had been long hidden breaking through. "You thought if Judy in the past could see what she'd become, it might deter her from going down the past to become who I am now."
Judy couldn't help it. In an instant she swiped the taser from Nick's belt and pointed it straight at the rabbit in the cell.
"How dare you claim I could ever be like you!" Judy shouted. "Tell me it's not true!" Judy lowered the taser, aiming it where she always did. "Admit that you are a liar."
The Judy from the future just looked at the taser, "You know that won't work the same on me like it did on the others. Isn't that part of why you like it so much?"
Judy from the present hesitated. "It will work well enough. Tell me it's a lie. Tell me I'm nothing like you."
"Yet here you are with a taser aimed at an unarmed prisoner."
Judy looked at the taser then at her future self.
Nick just stood by, watching, waiting. This was something Judy would have to overcome herself.
Judy's arms began to tremble, her eyes began to water.
And then she dropped the taser to the floor.
Then, without another word, she retreated down the hallway, disappearing from sight.
