Chapter 5
Back home a few hours later
"I think we should let them patrol with us," Minako murmured. "Let them get used to the way we do things."
"But that's not right," Luna argued. "They aren't the Inner Senshi. Their job is different."
"Not anymore Luna," Mamoru said softly, his eyes peering out into the night at the stars that were just beginning to shine. They were difficult to see in the middle of the city. He turned back to the room and looked at Luna, who was perched on the back of his couch. "There are no people on the other planets anymore. The Outer Senshi live on earth. They have a right to help defend it."
"We want to protect the princess," Haruka added, red spots heating her cheeks. She fidgeted in place for a moment, then lifted her head and gave the cat a level stare. "We have a right to protect her too."
"If I could make a suggestion?" Minako added. "Let Haruka work with me and Kunzite. She is the leader of the Outer Senshi. She will need to brush up on those skills. Meanwhile Michiru could work with Ami and Zo. Hotaru can work with Neph and Mako and Setsuna can work with Rei and Jed."
"I think that would work," Usagi agreed instantly. She looked at the cat with her bright cerulean eyes and everyone knew they would have their way. Even Luna couldn't argue with that hopeful look.
"Alright," Luna agreed. "But after that I want them working as a team."
"Absolutely," Michiru agreed, her eyes almost as bright as Usagi's. A tear slipped down her cheek and Usagi rushed to give her a hug.
They left each other happy. Luna and artemis walked to the secret base to inform central control of their findings
A few hours later
Usagi felt it the slimy miasma of a youma she pressed the alert button on the communicators and carefully jumped out of her window landing deftly on the grass she ran to a nearby alley and transformed Tuxedo Kamen met her and kissed her quietly and they ran towards the youma to find it just sitting down to say this confused the couple was an understatement.
Tuxedo Kamen backed away from the creature, unsure what to make of it. The thing wasn't attacking them, just sitting on the ground. It looked smaller than any Youma he had ever seen. He glanced at Sailor Moon, who was biting her lip in a very Usagi way.
"What do you think?" he asked.
Moon frowned and swiped at her bangs. "I don't know. It doesn't seem all that aggressive. Maybe we should capture it instead?"
"Seems dangerous. It could be a Trojan horse."
"What's that?" Moon asked.
"It's a story from ancient Greece. There was a rather long and frustrating war, lasting around ten years. The Greeks attacked the city of Troy, but in the end they pulled a rather brilliant stunt. Pretending to give up they build a very large wooden horse as a 'gift' to the Trojans. Then they made it seem as though they were sailing away. After the Trojans brought the horse inside the walls they drank and feasted, celebrating their victory. But when all the soldiers were sleeping men, who had been hidden inside the horse, tore through the city, opening the gates for the others, who had sailed back to shore in the night. They killed many and won the war. Now, when something seems too good to be true and an enemy of some sort is involved, it is called a Trojan horse."
"That's mean," Sailor Moon answered.
"True, but also effective. So what do you think? Could this be a Trojan horse?"
"I don't know. It seems almost like a child."
"My point exactly. Have you ever seen a child Youma?"
"No," Sailor Moon admitted, creeping forward to look closer.
"Wait," Tuxedo Kamen called, reaching out to stop her.
There was a sudden hissing noise and vapour filled the air around the Youma. Vapour with a distinct blue tint to it coiled around the two heroes, who quickly tried to avoid breathing it in. Unfortunately, it was far too late to stop the attack. Pain hit Tuxedo Kamen and he closed his eyes and screamed.
As the senshi and Shittenou ran towards the park. "Why is it always the park?" Rei wondered quietly
"I can see her communicator lighting up. She's still in the park." Ami held up the Mercury computer.
"Then why aren't they answering?" Rei asked, quickening her pace. "Could she have lost it?"
"I don't know. Maybe we should transform." Makoto suggested.
"Good idea," Minako said. "Henshin yo."
The four girls transformed with bright flashes of fire, water, lighting and a ribbon of stars. The Inner Senshi began to run the moment their feet touched back to the earth. It wasn't long before they reached the park. Mercury used her mini-computer to lead them to Usagi's communicator, but what they saw when they arrived shocked them into silence and stillness.
Standing together under a tree were two toddlers. They appeared extremely young, perhaps no more than two years old. For a brief moment, Minako considered that they were just ordinary toddlers who had lost their families. But the tiny blonde girl was wearing a fuku and a wrist communicator. The little raven-haired boy was in a tuxedo with a cape. A tophat lay on the ground beside him.
"Usagi?" Minako called.
The little girl's head came up and she cried out, holding her arms up as she ran forward. "Mina! Mina!" The much younger version of Tuxedo Kamen followed after, looking terrified.
"Now what are we going to do?" Mars asked, picking up the little boy as Minako grabbed Usagi.
"I have no idea."
"Whatever Youma did this, it's gone," Makoto said, her eyes scanning the area.
"What are we going to do?" Mars asked again, her voice cracking as she pulled her hair out of Tuxedo Kamen's chubby hand.
