Chapter 6: Edward

Nessie's POV

I didn't say a single word as I went with the Cullens. I tried to make sense of what Bella had said. How could Edward read my mind? That was impossible. But then again a lot of things people assumed were impossible were actually possible. It is a possible explanation to Edward's reaction.

Speaking of Edward he continued to look at me oddly even after he'd calmed down. I couldn't quite make sense of the guy. Then again reading people was never really my thing.

I took a deep breath to calm my steadily growing nerves. I had a lot more pressing concerns to deal with right now then the odd looks Edward gave me. They'd found out about the stolen money just as I had suspected and then they tracked me down.

At least I wasn't getting arrested...yet. I shuddered again at the thought of dying in prison. Did they even give cancer inmates medical attention in prison?

My stomach was churning the entire way. When the car came to a stop in front of a house that looked more like a mansion my nerves tripled.

"Do you mind if I speak to Renesmee alone first?" Edward asked Carlisle. It was the first time that he'd spoken since he'd gasped Bella out loud.

"Son are you-"

"I'm okay now. I don't know what came over me earlier but I'm fine now. I just want to talk to her first. Preferably alone. Before she talks to the rest of the family,"

"Sure son. If that's what you want,"

He nodded before looking at me. "Can you come with me Nessie?"

I gulped nervously unsure of what it was that he wanted. I wished that Bella was here to clue me in on his behavior but she'd left right after Edward had his breakdown. Ghosts had a funny way of disappearing and reappearing out of the blue like that.

I was even more confused by Edward's actions when he opened the door to a bedroom. What was this all about? If I was going to get arrested why didn't they just get it over with already? Why drag this out any longer than it needed to be?

He chuckled. "You're not going to get arrested Nessie. I just want to talk to you about a few things,"

I gasped. "How did you-"

"I can hear your thoughts just as easily as if you'd said them out loud. It's a gift,"

I rolled my eyes. "A very invasive gift that borders on annoying,"

He laughed. "It's not something that I can help,"

"Okay so if this isn't about me getting arrested then what is this all about? How do I know you're not going to march me right down to the police station later?"

"You're not going to prison Nessie. Yes we know it was you that stole our money. But you're not going to prison. We don't want that for you,"

"Then what do you want from me?" I asked in confusion.

"We want to know why that you did it? Who gave you our account numbers and passwords? How did you get our information?"

I froze as I tried to think of an explanation that didn't sound completely nuts. I couldn't come up with anything.

I gasped when Edward grabbed my arm. He was so cold. He looked right into my eyes and said "Nessie you don't have to lie to me. I mean it. You can tell me anything," there was so much sincerity in his voice that I felt I could trust him.

I shook my head. The last time I told anyone the truth I ended up in the psychiatric hospital. I didn't want to go through that again.

"Nessie look at me," I hadn't realized that I looked away from him. I forced myself to look into his eyes once again. "Nothing will happen to you. No matter what you say,"

"Well the truth is...crazy. That's putting it mildly actually. The truth is absolutely insane,"

"I still want to hear it," he said.

"I to have my own gift. Well curse is a more accurate description," I paused. "I can see the spirits of people who have died. The spirits of those who haven't crossed into heaven or have been dragged down to hell. I see ghosts and I communicate with them to,"

"I'm not crazy then,"

I laughed. "I tell you that I can communicate with the dead and you think that you're crazy?"

"Bella was here. I really did see her,"

"When she found me she asked me to help her find her family. I guess that's you guys. She's the one who told me to take money out of your family's accounts. She insisted we would need it for the journey. She also swore nobody would notice that the money was missing," I rolled my eyes at that last part.

He smiled. "That sounds like your mot-Bella alright," I wondered why it sounded like he changed his sentence halfway through?

"You really believe me don't you?" I was still in shock.

"I do Ness. I really do. I saw her in your mind,"

"I don't understand how that's possible. Unless-nevermind it's going to sound incredibly stupid,"

"Ness don't ever be afraid to say what's on your mind,"

"It's just that well Bella told me that ghosts aren't the only supernatural creatures that exist. She also said that werewolves and vampires exist to. But that's crazy, right?"

He grabbed my hand and once again I was surprised by his coldness. "She was telling you the truth Ness,"

"How do you know that?"

"Because I am one. A vampire I mean. We all are,"

"But-"

"I know it's difficult to take in but that is the truth,"

I felt dizzy and lightheaded as if I were about to pass out. Edward grabbed my body as I slumped forward and he lifted me onto the bed.

"I'm sorry I should've chosen a more subtle way to tell you,"

"I don't think that's something you can be subtle about," I groaned.

"You can take it easy Nessie,"

"I'm fine," I insisted.

"No you're not,"

"Yes I-"

He sighed in frustration. "Don't lie to me Nessie. You're sick. Even if I hadn't heard it in your thoughts earlier your scent was a dead giveaway. The scent of your blood has been extremely tainted with the scent of your cancer," he looked extremely sad. Like he was about to cry. "How long do you have?"

"The doctors say six months at best,"

The silence that followed was deafening. Until I finally broke that silence.

"Why does it matter to you anyway? You don't even know me,"

"Nessie there is something else that I have to tell you. It's about my daughter,"

I was surprised by the sudden turn this conversation had taken. "Is this daughter of yours Bella's daughter to, right? She had said that Edward was her husband,"

"Yes she is," he began. He ran his hands through his hair like I did when I was frustrated or upset. "A few weeks after Bella died, after our daughter was born, something happened," he said. "I did something so stupid that it caused me to lose my little girl forever,"

"She's dead!" I shouted hysterically. Bella wasn't going to like that at all.

"No she's alive. After she had fallen asleep for the night I left her alone because I didn't want to bother my family by asking them to watch her while I hunted. I thought she would be safe by herself for a few minutes. But when I came back she was gone. I searched everywhere for her but no luck. My little girl was gone all because I left her alone,"

"Okay but what does that have to do with me?" I asked curiously.

He looked at me with those beautiful golden eyes of his. Whatever he had to say it wasn't going to be easy to say. "Nessie you are that little girl. You are my little girl. I lost you all those years ago and now I have found you once again,"

"What?!" Bella screamed. I'd been so absorbed in my conversation with Edward that I hadn't even noticed she was back.

Bella looked furious as she stared at Edward. Then she lunged at him and started punched him so hard that he flew into the wall. The others came running in to see what happened while Bella continued to land blow after blow.
