Chapter 70- Teams RWBY, LEAD, JNR, Glynda, Sun, Neptune and Velvet who is currently working as detective in charge of Jaune's rehabilitation are summoned by the Vale Council to explain the Eldergrimm case.
After everyone presents the info they have accumulated, they inform the council that Lumia has traced Azure's whereabouts in Cornfield, a town in South Vale's Lakkard Province. Ruby requests permission for her team to hunt him- and is unanimously denied.
Chapter 71- Tensions rise high as the denial is followed by an order for RWBY's house arrest in Vale City. Yang starts a fight, but Glynda kicks her out of the conference.
Afterwards, the team decides to quit the Unit and pursue Azure and the cult on their own, despite their friends' protests and Glynda's opinion on their behavior being unprofessional and quite selfish.
At the same time, Cherry arrives at Azure's lab and meets his staff. She openly criticizes and shows him her displeasure at his work, but the man promptly reminds her of her duty and forces her to comply with it.
Chapter 72- Two days later, RWBY arrives at the city of Lakkard by train. As they try to fish information about the state Cornfield is, they end in the police station discussing their mission with Chief Bright.
He explains Cornfied is stationed in the other side of Lakkard Valley. It was a prosperous town annihilated by Grimm 50 years ago, now made into a place everyone tries to avoid.
At his request, RWBY agrees to combine their search with rescuing a group of university students that got lost in the corn fields between the two cities the day before.
Chapter 73- The girls make a day-long walk through the hot and stale corn fields, decorated with strange, metal scarecrows. They reach the area where the students had last been spotted and search around, until they find the corpse of one of them- Daniel Pastel.
Out of thin air, scarecrows surround them. Ruby, Weiss and Blake are overcome with fear and only after Yang snaps them back they drive the menace away, finding residence for the night in an old wooden mill.
Chapter 74- Blake and Ruby investigate the ground floor and find one more student corpse, that of Janet Fish. They decide to go out and bury her, when they are suddenly attacked by scarecrows.
Weiss and Yang are in the upper floor, discussing about the Eldergrimm but quickly join the fight. The two sisters defeat the monsters as Weiss helps Blake who has once more succumbed to the fear attack.
After the battle, Weiss proposes that these are a species of folklore Grimm called Gargoyles that have the ability to take other forms. They bury Janet's body and decide to try getting a little rest for the night.
Chapter 75- Azure thinks of his mentor, Merlot, and his parting words that encouraged the man to try continuing his Grimm experiments. He is once more confronted by Cherry, heavily condescending of his work.
Their argument is halted as Azure's assistant Fowler brings a member of the lab that was stealing money from the professor, allowing Lumia to trace his account. Azure ignores the man's protests and condemns him to be used as a test subject from now on.
Back at Vale, Velvet and Jaune meet Erik and Lumia for breakfast. While currently working to catch a criminal who opens graves to eat corpses, the faunus is worried about a grim feeling Ruby shared with her on the current state of Jaune's recovery and state.
Chapter 76- Walking closer to Cornfield, the team finds another clue- the discarded scroll of a student called Martina Waite. From it, they learn that three students and Professor Blau passed through there.
As they discuss the meaning behind the new piece of evidence, they arrive at the unnaturally decayed and filled with overgrown vegetation town, surrounded by a thick mist pouring in from the nearby lake.
On their path, they unknowingly activate a barrier that notifies Cherry about their arrival. She informs Azure and he sends Vivian Crem- an assistant of his that was posing as a university professor- after them.
Chapter 77- As they step into the mist-covered town, they are attacked by huge, flower-like Gargoyles that attack them with poison gas. They manage to push through and find refuge inside a ruined block of flats.
They investigate the block, finding traces of massacre and the worship of a strange local religious figure called the Grand Mother. Their search ends when Vivian appears, being hunted by Gargoyles, forcing Ruby and Weiss run out of the building to rescue her.
Chapter 78- The red and white pair repels the Grimm and saves Vivian. Acting her part of a hunted professor, she manages to convince RWBY to follow her towards the museum in order to search for survivors.
On their way, they talk a little about Vivian's weapon and whereabouts until they reach the plaza, where they find evidence of a very old and bloody battle, around a large statue of The Grand Mother.
Back in Vale, Velvet still struggles with the case, Jaune's state and her new theory of the corpse-eater. She returns home for the night, but is called back on duty to investigate the murder of two officers that were patrolling the cemetery.
Chapter 79- In the well-preserved museum, RWBY finds the students' abandoned camp. They turn in for the night, discussing the importance Grand Mother seemed to have on Cornfield's life.
Night falls and Vivian takes her chance to try poisoning the girls' coffee. She is caught by Blake as she tells her they had been suspicious of her all along. They interrogate Vivian and try convincing her into tricking Azure into thinking that she took them down.
The interrogation is interrupted by a humanoid Grimm with a skull staff and a hooded figure that walks inside the museum; the Grand Mother.
Chapter 80- The huntresses fail to escape the Grimm's watchful eye. It attacks them as they crawl away, forcing them to engage it at once.
Nearby, Fowler uses a strange contraption of Azure's to force hostages try and control a team of captured Gargoyles with Cherry's assistance, as she is begrudgingly forced to use her magic to support them.
Meanwhile Velvet, Erik and Jaune investigate the cemetery murder and come to the conclusion the perpetrator is the corpse-eater. Unable to resist her growing concern any more, the faunus asks for Erik's help.
Chapter 81- RWBY fights the Grand Mother. They struggle against her spells and are forced to perform consecutive combo attacks to damage her, only succeeding to reveal her human-toad, cyclopean form.
Fowler's scarecrows burst in attacking the Grand Mother. The girls use them as decoy, but the Mother blasts them along with the wall, letting them push Yang away from the attack at the last moment.
The blonde gets up and tries to save them from the wreckage. Vivian stops her, ignoring her pleads for help as she focuses on killing them all. She is unexpectedly saved by Cherry, who decapitates Vivian in disgust of Azure's assistants and their way of doing things.
Chapter 82- RWBY wakes up in a ruined house where Yang explains to them how she owes a favor to Cherry for helping her treat them. They discuss about hints of magic they have seen Weiss usee from Nicholas' book and decide to search the old power plant on the lake's other side.
Erik spends his morning in a café in Vale meeting Ren and Nora who are taking a week off their duties. The man reveals Velvet's request; the girl thinks that Jaune has been possessed by Avyssos into a corpse-eating, murderous monster.
Despite Nora's furious protests, they contact Lumia and move towards Riverside- the clinic Jaune has been having his check-ups- to talk with Dr. Van Ochre who has been monitoring his health.
Chapter 83- Lumia arrives at Riverside, full of guilt for investigating her friend after her disagreement with RWBY's mission. She is overcome by uneasiness as she enters and is greeted by a wicked, unidentified voice.
Her uneasiness grows as she momentarily mistakes the doctor for one of her Atlas instructors. As per plan, Nora lures the man pretending to be patient and Lumia starts hacking his PC in search for Jaune's records.
In Azure's lab, the man and Cherry have a breakdown. She demands he stops ridiculing Grimm and humans for his experiments. She is caught unaware, knocked to sleep and Azure plans to use her as test subject.
Chapter 84- As RWBY crosses the lake on Weiss' Queen Lancer, Yang tells them she dreamed of chat she had with Raven telling her to not waste her life saving others, before they get attacked by apparition-like Grimm resembling floating heads.
The same monsters continue haunting them even after they land. They run away from their eerie laughter towards the laboratory. As they get close, Blake notices Fowler and his men drive away with Cherry's body.
Determined to repay her saving their lives, Yang convinces Ruby to let her go save the faunus girl. Blake accompanies her, while Weiss and the reaper move into the abandoned-looking laboratory building.
Chapter 85- Nora and Eric start seeing things; the ginger mistakes a nurse for Pyrrha and the man listens to a haunting voice when he tries to get in touch with Lumia. Full of worry, he runs up to find her.
Said girl finds out inconsistencies in Jaune's medical file dates and a lot of weird, unscientific explanations about his state. She is interrupted by a cleaning lady who walks up to her with a bucket overflowing in thick, black blood that completely fills the corridor.
At the same time, Nora and Ren face the doctor and the nurse whose resemblance to Pyrrha aggravates them. The replica transforms and attacks the couple, revealing her identity as a Grimm-spawn of Avyssos.
To no one's surprise, working extra shifts in addition to writing both the main story and the summary was tougher that foolish ol' me expected. I am uploading now the first part of Cornfield and hoping I will finish the second part on the weekend. Hope you enjoy it!
