Harry woke up the next morning after a dream he'd had about a green light. He had been having it since he was small, he had guessed that it had something to do with the death of his parents. He got up and went through his usual morning routine before making his way down into the common room. Today however Hermione wasn't there yet. So, Harry decided to grab his book about duelling and saw the disarming spell which he wanted to try really badly. It seemed quite simple enough, the wrist movement was just a flick and the incantation was 'Expelliarmus'. He continued reading on the stances a formal duel would have. First a bow then you get your stance ready before beginning. He wanted to duel someone but he knew he didn't have enough spell knowledge to do one. Sure he had studied for a whole month when he went back to the Dursley's but he guessed that most wizards had probably been taught spells since they were about five years old while Harry at that point was doing chores, getting chased by Dudley and his gang, going to school and meaning to get lower scores than Dudley so he didn't get into too much trouble or sitting in his cupboard. It was at this point when he realised how much his life had really changed in such a small amount of time.
He continued reading until half an hour later, Hermione came down and they made their way down to the Great Hall when they got there professor Flitwick passed them new times tables because apparently the other ones were wrong. It was a cloudy day today, but he hoped it would clear soon because, looking at his new times table, he had his first flying lesson this afternoon and on top of that he had astronomy too. This morning though, the Ravenclaws started off with transfiguration followed by charms, after that, they had DADA and History of Magic. Harry's little face off with Malfoy had spread around the school and Malfoy didn't seem happy about it whatsoever. On one side he had insulted all the muggle-borns and the half-bloods because they also had at least one parent who was either a muggle or a muggle born. He had also helped spread the reminder that all pure blood families started out with muggle-borns which didn't really make the pure bloods happy, especially those who thought you had to be a pure blood to be good at anything magical.
In Transfiguration, they had to turn a matchstick into a needle. Professor McGonagall showed them an example and it was like had already learned it without ever reading about it. It just came to him instantly and on the first try he had managed it. Everyone sat shocked at this even professor McGonagall. Harry didn't know why he knew it he just did, it came to him instantly. Professor McGonagall recovered from her shock and awarded 10 points to Ravenclaw for his work in advance she had claimed it to be. Hermione was the only other student to manage the Transfiguration although hers wasn't as pointy at the end as Harry's. In Charms, they had to do the light spell, 'Lumos'. This wasn't an exactly hard spell, Harry had already tried doing it while at the Dursley's, half the class had managed it either on their first attempt or their second one. The rest had it done by the third. Only two or three students' lights were really bright but you could still see quite far no matter whose spell it was. Next up was DADA and that was not what Harry had imagined it being, he understood what Corner meant when he said he hadn't heard anything good about the teacher, it was just really dull, almost as dull as their next class, History of Magic. There seemed to be something wrong with Quirell though, he didn't seem entirely with it, like he had a confused look in his eyes as he spoke almost as if he didn't even understand anything what he was talking about. There were rumours saying that he had been to Albania for a few years before coming to Hogwarts and that he had met vampires and other dark creatures there which is what started the stutter.
Anyways once DADA was over, they had an hour to sleep, in other words, History of Magic. It was as if Harry hadn't slept in a few centuries going by the speed at which he had managed to go to sleep, he didn't think it was possible but the droning voice had caused it, well that was his excuse anyways, Hermione had assumed that he had barely slept but he explained to her that he had actually gone to sleep not long after going up. It's fair enough to say, she still had her doubts but she went with it, it's not like Harry was the only one to sleep in that class.
They were now on their way to their first flying lesson along with the Hufflepuffs. The sky hadn't cleared much but it was at least warm. Madame Hooch looked at them all with her yellow eyes which Harry found weird but just hazarded a guess that she used magic to change their colour, after all, what wasn't possible with magic. Anyways, she told them to get onto the left side of their brooms and put their right hand above the broom and say 'Up', Harry's broom jumped straight into his hand and he felt the enchantments that allowed it to fly. After another five minutes of waiting patiently for the others to manage, they were told to start flying. Harry really enjoyed it, he was taking the broom to its maximum speed which, considering their age, wasn't very good. Hermione however seemed terrified about leaving the floor at all. Going by the look on her face, it was like she was scared to death of heights. Harry tried helping and encouraging her but she didn't budge at all. Madame Hooch awarded him five points for his efforts but they were already lost as him and the rest of the boys of both houses were messing around. Both houses ended up losing 20 points each.
Later that night they had astronomy but they didn't star gaze whatsoever because the sky wasn't clear at all. So instead, Professor Sinistra showed them a few things with the orb showing the galaxy Harry had seen on his first passing in Diagon Alley with Hagrid. She had also said that the centaurs used the stars for their own sort of Divination, a class that Harry would be able to take in third year but apparently it wouldn't be any use unless you had 'The Sight'.
Much of the next month had gone in the same pattern. He managed spells with ease, he would spend quite a lot of time with Hermione and Neville when possible otherwise he would be with his classmates. Harry had gained a lot of confidence since the start of the year thanks to his friends, he wasn't afraid to make a joke or mess around with his friends, or even make an offensive joke about them and worrying that they would take it personally. He had even tried making friends with Ron again only to be shot back down because something that had happened to him seemed to be his fault. He didn't know what but something was. Luckily for him though they didn't have a single class with Griffindors so that meant he wouldn't have any classes with Neville which was a bummer but also wouldn't have to hear Ron complaining about life not being fair. He had heard other students complaining about the red-head complaining, it was a vicious circle of complaining really and that made Harry complain about people complaining about Ron's complaining. Harry confused himself just thinking about all of it and decided to drop it before he went insane. He had tried to make friends with Dean Thomas too, he seemed quite a chill guy. He was muggle raised so he and Harry could talk about football and other muggle things, Hermione even joined in from time to time, although Harry didn't really know much about muggle sports as he had never watched a game or played it, the only things he did know about the subject was because he had watched other kids playing while they were at school.
It was currently the begging of October and they were on their way to Herbology which they had with the Slytherins. They had finished what they were studying before and Professor Sprout had said that they were starting something new today. As they entered the greenhouse, the teacher told them not to get comfortable as she would make the groups up herself. Nearly all the class groaned at this. Harry didn't really care who he was with as long as he wasn't with anyone from Malfoy's group which consisted of Nott, Crabbe, Goyle and Parkinson. As Professor Sprout entered the room, she pointed to the first table and said out loud:
"First table: Granger, Parkinson and Corner. Second table: Goyle, Goldstein and Patil. Third table: Greengrass, Davis and Potter. Fourth table: Malfoy, Zabini and Entwhistle. Fifth table: ..." she continued. Well, Harry thought, at least I'm not with Malfoy. The honey blonde girl, Daphne Greengrass, the Ice Queen as some people called her, was giving him a menacing look for some reason as if it was his fault. Tracey, her friend, was just smiling, it didn't seem to bother her, she and Harry had never spoken a word to each other, neither had Harry and Daphne but that didn't matter apparently, she still decided that she didn't like him. When the teacher finished announcing the tables, everyone made their way to their group table. On it was a plant that seemed ready to bite your head off if you got too close to it so Harry's group all kept away from it. Tracey sat between Harry and Daphne as a sort of frontier. She was friends with Daphne but wasn't against trying to work with Harry unlike her friend. The teacher then went on to explain what they had to do. They had to transfer it into another pot upside down so they could some weird pus that came out of it. The teacher showed them how to do it and it looked quite disgusting. Anyways, the group decided to begin on their work. The two girls didn't seem willing to start the work so Harry took it upon himself to do it. he grabbed the pot and turned it upside down but the dirt or plant weren't going anywhere.
"Could you give us a hand please ?" he asked to bother Tracey and Daphne. Tracey saw that Daphne wasn't going to help so she did. she started using a trowel to loosen up the dirt on the edges of the pot but as she went deeper, one of its tentacles wrapped itself around her hand and she started panicking. Harry, having quick reflexes grabbed the trowel and started hitting to tentacle so it would let go, which it did eventually but it did take some time. Tracey didn't seem ready to help anymore so Daphne forced herself to help with a look that said that she really didn't want to be there.
After about 3 minutes, they had managed to turn the plant upside down, Harry had never imagined that gardening could be this difficult. Once it was turned over, they dug a hole in the dirt in the middle of the pot to find one of the bulbs that contained the pus. Tracey and Daphne were both helping Harry at the time and they had found one. Daphne seemed intrigued so Harry and Tracey let her go first, they didn't really want to anyways.
Just as Daphne had removed it from the plant she squeezed it a little too hard and it went all over her finger. The pus in itself wasn't dangerous but if it stayed in contact with skin for too long, it could cause an infection. Harry without ever thinking pointed his wand at her hand and thought "Scourigify" and it disappeared. Daphne breathed a sigh of relief whereas Tracey was looking at him in shock. Harry was shocked at himself too, he didn't know he could do that, it was the first thing that came to mind, he couldn't even remember the spell he had used to do it. Daphne seemed confused at the surprised looks on their faces
"What's up with you two ?" she asked, regaining her Ice Queen demeanour.
Harry regained his composure before Tracey and stumbled over his own words while talking. " I- I just wor- wordlessly cleaned your, ehm, hand" speaking just seemed to have abandoned him completely
"Oh please Potter, we know you get spells quickly but don't go around chatting sh-"
"Daph, he did" Tracey interrupted still in shock
It was then the end of the lesson and they all went to their next classes. Harry still trying to think of the spell he had used but it still didn't come to him. Hermione had questioned him on why he seemed deep in thought and so he had explained. She was really happy for him and had told him the spell he had used, she said it was a second year spell which she had seen Snape use once when cleaning Ernwhistle's potion up that he had made fall once.
They were in DADA when Hedwig came into the classroom and delivered a note to Harry. The teacher didn't seem to notice though. His owl had left as soon as the note was delivered. Harry opened the note quickly to read it.
Harry,
I request your presence in my office at 4 P.M today behind the statue of the gargoyle on the third floor
Professor Dumbledore
P.S: I'm quite keen on liquorice wands
Harry passed the note to Hermione who was sitting next to him and read it quickly, once finished she handed it back to Harry and shrugged her shoulders. Harry still hadn't told her or Neville about the business with the power blocks so thought that he might question the headmaster about that at the same time.
He was looking around the third floor with quite a bit of time in advance with Hermione as she too wanted to see where the headmaster's office was. They stumbled into a dark corridor with scary statues. They continued down it as it intrigued them. Hermione had suggested that this was the third floor corridor but Harry didn't think so as there should have been signs saying not to go down there. They reached the end and there, they found a locked door, they both looked at each other thinking the same thing. It was the third floor corridor, there were never locked doors at Hogwarts. They began making their way back but they heard Filch and Ms Norris approaching. They started to panic and ran back towards the door. They tried opening it again but it was locked. Hermione tried unlocking it with a simple 'Alohamora' and it unlocked so they made their way through. They were going to continue running when they saw a big three-headed dog and Harry let out a low whistle which seemed to calm the dogs after it noticed the two of them. Hermione was about to scream and Harry put a hand over her mouth and continued whistling. The dog got in a sleeping position and closed its eyes. Harry couldn't believe that had just happened. He had only whistled because he was surprised at the beast but he found out that it actually calmed it.
After 20 seconds they figured they'd been in there long enough and walked back out. They walked back out and found themselves by the door to the third floor corridor. They turned around and continued walking and eventually found it. Hermione decided that she would way for Harry on a bench just outside of the headmaster's office. So Harry said the password and went up. He knocked on the door and a voice came from inside "Come in"
So Harry pushed open the door and found himself in a circular office with huge paintings of people surrounding the walls. In front of him was a desk and behind it, was Dumbledore.
"Ah Harry, glad you could make it. How has school been for you up until now ?" he asked in a grand fatherly tone
"It's been good thank you Professor although I must say Defence isn't what I expected" Harry tried keeping a casual tone around the man. He had after all tried to prevent him from achieving his full potential
"Ah yes I've heard that too, but sadly it is hard to come by a teacher willing to teach the position nowadays, none of the teachers have kept the post for more than a year. Apparently it might be jinxed."
"Well at least we can look in our books to teach ourselves because he isn't very good at teaching"
"Well I shall have a word with Quirinus later on. For now, I've had some of your teachers have told me that casting spells seems to be quite easy for you. I must say, when most of the teachers came to me about you getting a lot of spells on the first try, it surprised me"
"Yes well I don't quite understand that myself you see Professor. I did start studying after my visit to Diagon Alley but some of the spells I've done, I had never even heard of."
Dumbledore looked thoughtful at this. He was positive that Harry's bindings should have slowed down his learning. He knew Harry couldn't become too powerful, he had his suspicions about there being a Horcrux in his head. He needed to find out what had happened during his visit at Gringotts. Hagrid had told him that Harry had business with the goblins.
"Harry, Hagrid told me that upon your arrival at Gringotts bank, you were escorted away by the goblins. Might I ask why ?" he asked in a hopeful tone
Harry had to think hard on this. He didn't want Dumbledore as his enemy but he needed to know some truths as well. He decided to tell part of the truth. "Well I had some family business to take care of"
Dumbledore's eyes widened at this, only slightly though, not enough for Harry to notice a big difference. He knew what that could mean. He might have gotten his rings which would mean he's a Lord thanks to the Peverell family which means they definitely did a health check and found out what the dark substance was in his head and found Harry's block on magic as well. He didn't know if he should ask because if he said no it probably meant he didn't know about it but he, Dumbledore, needed to know if he was now a Lord and wanted to know if his suspicions were right.
"Is that all ?" he felt was the safest option to go with
"Yes well that and a health check which I wanted to ask you about. You see when they did it, they found a 15% block on my power placed on me by you, and I was just wondering why you did that"
Crap one of the questions he didn't want to answer. He thought on it for a bit before deciding to be truthful after all he wanted to establish some trust between the two of them. "Well you see, even from a baby, you had started doing magic at a very young age, about the same age as I did actually possibly a bit before. And I did this because I didn't want you getting bored at school but also because I knew you would be very powerful one day, I didn't want you doing too much accidental magic at your aunt and uncle's. I'm sure they wouldn't have minded but it was better that way. I was going to tell you eventually." he hoped he believed him because that last line was a lie, he needed Harry weaker if his suspicions were right.
Harry just nodded at this. He did believe him, well partially at least, and they seemed to be getting in quite well hut Harry knew he couldn't trust him, not yet anyways. He didn't know if he should tell the headmaster about his Lordships and the Horcrux that was in his head.
Dumbledore saw that there was something the boy was thinking on. He could have used Legilimency to see what the boy was thinking but didn't know if he had begun learning Occlumency or not.
"Very well Harry, if there is anything you wish to tell me I will be here but for now, you may leave and rejoin your friends." He smiled at the boy while keeping his grand fatherly tone.
"Goodbye professor" Harry replied still thinking on what to do. The headmaster said his farewell and Harry rejoined Hermione and then went into the library to finish their Transfiguration homework on switching spells. Harry's, Michael's and Anthony's prank on Professor Quirell would be coming up soon as snow couldn't be far behind them. They had planned to try removing his turban using snowballs.
A/N: Thank you for the reviews you've left, I will try continuing to update the story at this pace at least for this week and the next, afterwards, back to school and exams are approaching but they shouldn't take up too much time, they'll mostly be the first two weeks back and then more in June. Also, sorry for the change of times table, I had looked at the wrong one in yesterday's chapter and only noticed this morning, so that's why I made the change this chapter. Also please let me know what you think I should do with the Harry-Dumbledore situation, should he tell him about the Horcrux now or later ?

About the gold in his vault, I don't quite see what you mean sorry, because I was using galleons and you put it in pounds, could you re-explain please ? :)
