Jessica woke with a groan, the back of her neck stiff and her body feeling weak and achy, as if she had been thrown down a pile of stairs. Her eyes fluttered open to see the bright lights of the room. She shut them back down again as soon as she remembered where she was.
Kilgrave…what a prick
Jessica shuffled on the bed, glancing down to see the blanket laid on top of her and as she tried to sit up, her hands were caught down, obviously by the chains. She kicked the blanket off her to see her hands cuffed once again and this time she barely had room to move her hands around.
Wow, they are actually smart about this
She wasn't stupid though. She knew Kilgrave would make sure her little escape attempt wouldn't happen again. Without his mind control, he didn't have much to keep her here. Jessica had only come close to escaping Kilgrave once. Kilgrave hadn't given any command for 12 hours which was how long his mind control lasted before he made it stronger. She had gotten so close, standing on that ledge. She could have easily jumped down and landed with ease. She even dreamed of a white horse coming to take her home. But once again, Kilgrave was quicker and she was brought back to his hell. Her mind flashed back to her running down the hallway, escaping the room and security guards. She had fought them off with her super strength, only to be distracted with Kilgrave and be shot in the back of the neck by Dr Louis.
He's a prick as well
Jessica just didn't understand him. Why would he want to work with Kilgrave in making Jessica's life a complete misery? What kind of sick human being would go along with this plan of his? Surely Kilgrave was controlling him. Understandably, his family was probably in danger if he didn't go along with it but something was off with him. Was he just a regular doctor or had he had experience with people like Jessica and Kilgrave; people with powers?
Jessica managed to get in a more comfortable position and she noticed the straps across her chest and shoulders. She pressed forward, pushing her chest into the straps but like the chains and cuffs, they didn't seem to even crack. Jessica sighed, slumping back in the bed. Her chances of breaking the restraints was slim now and if she was going to escape, she would need a better tactic than just make a run for it. She was sure Kilgrave had extra security lying around.
Jessica glanced down at her arms, seeing various pads stuck on the inside with wires leading to the monitors and machines surrounding her. The metal table that was on her left side was covered by a white sheet and there looked to be something underneath. Her stomach felt sick as she saw the cannula poking out of the back of her hand, taped down and the tube connecting to a bag hung on a metal post. She turned her head away, not wanting any more memories to come back. She felt exactly the same as she did when she was 10 years old. Like a rat in a lab.
Jessica was going to do everything she could to make sure Kilgrave would't control her again. She couldn't go back to that, not again. When she was under his control, she felt like a puppet on strings, a rag doll to be dressed and played with. A slave to be owned and controlled. And Kilgrave was too powerful and delusional to see she was breaking. When she had that single opportunity to get away, she felt light and free. She felt as if she had been born again, entering a new world she hadn't even met. And when Kilgrave brought her back, she went back to being that toy that was his. No, she couldn't go back to being that, being forced to use her powers for evil.
The door to the room opened and Jessica glared over as Kilgrave strolled in, a smile on his face. He was dressed in his dark purple shirt with the black waistcoat and jacket, his smart trousers and polished shoes. He slowly stepped over to Jessica, staring at her but she didn't give the same response.
"Oh come on Jessica, you know I don't like it when you look at me like that" he stopped beside her, a soft expression on his face.
"Let me guess, you'd rather I smiled" she sneered back and Kilgrave grinned.
"Well yes actually, I would" Jessica rolled her eyes.
"Not even in your fucking dreams" she spat back.
"If there's one thing I haven't missed it's that backchat of yours, it's fine though, once the cure is made there will be none of that" Jessica turned back to stare at Kilgrave, eyebrows furrowed.
"What?" She said, confused by his words. Cure?
"That's right, I was right, it is you, you have somehow developed antibodies that reject my mind control which means I can't control you, Dr Louis said they are mutated which is why when I made my power stronger you still could't be controlled".
Fuck
This wasn't the news Jessica wanted. She was obviously glad she had a way of repelling his control but now that they knew this, Kilgrave would find a way to remove it and then she'd be under his control.
"All we have to do now is find a cure to remove the antibodies and…" Kilgrave placed his hand on Jessica's, his fingers running over his skin and her reflexes told her to pull back but the cuffs were too tight for her to move. Kilgrave ran his fingers along her arm, Jessica gritted her teeth together to stop the retching.
"Then you and I can be together again… just like old times" he grinned.
"I will never let you control me again you psychotic asshole, after everything you put me through" she barked. He really was a psychotic asshole if he thought Jessica would ever want to be with him.
"Everything I put you through; staying in fancy hotels and eating the best food, doing everything for you and you think I'm psychotic" he leaned a little closer, his eyes wide.
"You made me murder an innocent woman, you kill people because they annoy you, you raped me every single fucking day of my life" Kilgrave turned in disgust at that word.
"You know I hate that word Jessica and I never killed anyone, I certainly didn't make you kill Reva and she wasn't exactly innocent" he shrugged and fury burned inside Jessica. She sat up quickly, the straps straining and keeping her from sitting up, her hands clenching to tug at the cuffs, the metal digging into her skin.
"Yes you did, you knew exactly what you were doing, she had a life and you took that away from her because that's what you do, you take people and use them and then dispose of them like their trash".
"She had information on me that I couldn't let her expose, what was I supposed to do" Jessica scoffed.
"Jesus Christ, you really are a fucking psychotic piece of shit, I should have just killed you when I had the chance" Jessica had wished she had killed him when she had him in that torture room. Or she could have kept him there forever, using him as her own little toy like he did to her.
"You would't though, you know that if I die, other people would have died a horrible painful death" he said softly.
"Even dead you're still a murderer" Jessica settled back on the bed, turning her head away from Kilgrave.
"I know you Jessica, I know you would never kill anyone, even me" Kilgrave whispered softly, placing his hand on her arm to which Jessica flinched. She didn't want him touching her.
"Don't fucking touch me" she screamed and Kilgrave pulled back, bringing his hand back down. Kilgrave decided not to rile her up anymore. He knew he was safe with her being restrained but he didn't want to take any chances.
"The sooner this cure is made the better" Kilgrave whispered, turning as the door opened again and Dr Louis walked in.
"What took you so long?" Kilgrave ordered an answer.
"I was getting the paper work ready" Dr Louis answered and walked over to the other side of Jessica, setting a folder of papers on the table beside her.
"How are you feeling today?" He asked Jessica who stared froward.
"Does it matter how I feel?" She glared over at Dr Louis, who glanced nervously and shook his head.
"Well yes, we need to keep note of your vitals during this process, make sure that you are fit and well while we test this cure on you, wouldn't want something bad to happen" he said, looking down at the papers and making notes.
"I think she feels fine, I can already tell she's a bit more perky" Kilgrave gave a smile to Jessica who rolled her eyes.
"Well, I think we are in a good position to get started" Dr Louis nodded and pulled the white sheet of the table.
