Current Timeline, Jay Garrick and Caitlin Snow, 2014

Jay was walking down the street with Caitlin beside him. The two of them were on their way to a movie with Barry and his friend Iris. Caitlin had seen Iris before but they'd never really interacted and Jay had been in a coma when she came around. "So what do you know about Iris?" he asked her.

"She was devastated when Barry was in his coma. I'm pretty sure that they took Barry in to live with them when Barry's mom died and his dad went to prison," she told him as they walked through the cold night air.

"Oh, so she's like his foster sister," Jay connected. "Just like Toby and me."

"That was my impression," she confirmed as they turned around the corner. A gust of the cool autumn air blew right towards them. She pulled her coat tighter around herself as she shivered. She looked over at him to find he wasn't fazed at all. "How are you not freezing? You're wearing jeans and a sweater. I'm wearing a coat and I'm still turning blue."

"I don't know," he laughed as he watched her shiver slightly. "I just have one of those really warm cores. Wait until it's summer and then I will be in your shoes. Here, you know what? Come here."

He pulled her into his side. His hand landed on her forearm and proceeded to create warm friction to bring her back from the brink of freezing. Her body settled into his side, relaxed and comfortable. She really did enjoy having her friend Jay Garrick back again. The last time she felt this comfortable with anyone was…. It didn't matter. What did matter was the fact that she and Jay were back to being the formidable duo that they used to be. "So remind me, why are we going to see this movie with Barry and Iris again?"

"Barry said that he wanted to prove to Iris that he does have friends and have her stop pestering him about making some," Jay answered her.

"But I don't even know him that well," she told him confused, "Besides, from what I've seen, I don't really like him."

"Really? Why's that?" he was surprised. He hadn't seen anything that made him think that she disliked him. He liked Barry. He was a good person who tried to make a difference and protect the city.

"He's impulsive. He's always running off on a whim. He never stays long enough to make a plan and he will not sit still when I am trying to do the routine check-ups on you both," she explained, her voice bitter and annoyed. There were many more reasons but those were the most relevant.

"I can admit that he could be a little more patient," Jay agreed. "But he is very dedicated to helping people. He is ready to jump into action and help to the best of his ability, and he is a nice guy who would back you up when you needed it."

"I suppose but still I don't even know what we'd talk about," she said as they continued walking through the crowded streets.

"That's the best part about us going to a movie," he smiled, knowing the next thing he was going to say would ease a lot of her stress. "You don't talk during movies and you can pick whatever seat you want."

"If I chose the end, would you sit next to me?" she asked him, preparing ahead of time.

"Sure, so long as you don't mind sharing your snack with me," he playfully bartered with her.

"Always," she promised as they neared the theater.

She didn't care for Barry and she had only met Iris in passing. She was only going to this because she'd been tricked into it. She wasn't a very social person. She liked her little group of friends and preferred to stay within that little group. She was very grateful Jay was going with them. Jay had this quality about him that made everyone want to talk to him instead of someone else and she preferred it that way. Jay would happily take the brunt of conversation and still let her talk when she felt like she had something of value to offer.

They continued walking until they spotted Barry and Iris in front of the markee. "Barry! Iris!" Jay waved to let them know they found them. The loss of heat became rather apparent to Caitlin as his arm ceased to rest around her.

"Hey guys!" Barry waved back and pulled Iris along with him. "Iris, this is Dr. Jay Garrick," he introduced him first.

"Jay's fine," he smiled and shook her hand. "Nice to finally meet you."

"Yeah, you too," Iris told him as she looked over him. Probably not what she was expecting.

"And this is Dr. Caitlin Snow," Barry finished introducing them.

"Caitlin, hi, nice to see you again," she shook hands with her as well.

"You too," she said as she looked over the two of them questioningly. "Well, I'm very glad Barry finally managed to make some more friends. What do you two do?"

"I'm a chemist and a physicist for Mercury Labs," he answered.

"And I'm a Bio-engineer with a background in Medicine," Caitlin replied. "What about you?"

"I'm working a part-time job at Jitters while I finish up my Investigative Journalism degree," she said with a tinge of inadequacy.

"That sounds exciting," Jay told her. Jay glanced at his watch, "We better get inside if we're going to catch the movie. By the way, what is the movie that we're seeing?"

"It's this new Zombie movie that just came out," Barry explained as they headed inside.

"Regular movie scale, that was a seven or an eight," Barry told them as they came out of the building. "Zombie movie scale, it was, like, a four, tops."

"The believability disappeared early when they explained the science behind it," Caitlin said as she buttoned up her coat.

"Really? What did they get wrong?" Iris asked them before taking a sip of her diet soda.

"Well, the chemical formulas and equations didn't fit together. They were just numbers that didn't actually create the effect they wanted. Also, most of those chemicals are in things found in love pheromones that exist in certain animal species," Jay explained after taking a small bite of popcorn.

"Not to mention that the mechanism they used to turn the zombies back into humans was the equivalent of what shining a colored light at someone does. The lack of believability really ruined the movie for me," Caitlin added.

"Separating the science from the movie, it wasn't bad. The plot was decent and the characters were entertaining to watch," Jay replied.

Barry's cell phone rang so excused himself to take a phone call and the three of them went to stand next to the side of the building.

"So how long have you two been a couple?" Iris told them as they found a spot to wait for Barry.

"What? No!" Caitlin told her firmly.

"No, no, we're not," Jay said, slightly more gentle.

"We're good friends. That's all," Caitlin explained.

"Why would you say that?" Jay asked her

"Oh, sorry," Iris apologized with a light laugh. "It's just, I saw you guys on your way in and the way you guys shared your snacks. My boyfriend, Eddie, and I are like that but I guess I was wrong."

"That's okay," Jay assured her. "Caitlin and I have been friends since Junior High. How long have you and Barry been friends for?"

"Oh gosh, um, I think it's been 17 or maybe 18 years. We were friends before he moved in with us and my dad adopted him. I think we've known each other since we were seven or eight. Somewhere around that age," she answered.

"Neat, so you guys are siblings," Jay concluded.

"Yeah, I guess so. I hadn't thought about it like that before but you're right," she told them as she thought about all their times together. "Hey, can I ask you guys something that has to do with science?"

"Sure," Jay agreed happily.

"I don't see why not," Caitlin answered. Normally, she would have been happy to talk about science but the cold was starting to freeze her faster and faster. Right now, all she wanted to do was get inside and get warm again. Where was Barry?

"So what do you guys think about the new superheroes?" she asked them. "How are they possible? What even are they? Are they more like a ghost or a man? I'm pretty sure they're men based on the pictures that people have been posting. Like look at this picture," she showed them an image of a blurry Jay and Barry talking to the police officer when they took down Atom Smasher.

Jay and Caitlin looked to each other on how to best explain this without giving too much away. Iris handed the phone to Jay and they looked at it closely. They looked at each other once again before Jay kicked off saying, "They are definitely a living, solid, thing. Ghosts, not that they are real to begin with, are very famous for going through things without being able to touch anything. You can see here that the blue one is on the ground is definitely touching the ground. The red one is also on the ground. See how there's no space between them and the ground?"

"Wow," Iris said as her curiosity grew by the minute. She took the phone back and saw that Caitlin was right. "So how is this possible?"

"Best guesses, he is either moving faster than is humanly possible or he's made everything around him much slower," Caitlin answered.

"That makes a lot of sense," Iris told him as her phone started ringing. "Oh sorry, I gotta take this."

They nodded and watched as she moved a little away from the two of them to talk in private. Jay relaxed against the wall and Caitlin shivered before rubbing her arms to try and warm herself like she'd wanted to for what felt like an hour. She turned to see Jay after hearing him give a small laugh. He had that caring smile he always had when he'd decided to help someone. He nodded for her to come over so she could huddle for warmth. Wasting no time, she made her way over so his arm wrapped around her back again and their heads faced the same way. She sighed gratefully as heat made its way back into her body.

"Do you think we gave her enough to keep her from truly knowing and just guessing?" Jay asked her.

"From the information she had, I think so. We gave her some science to credit theories and never gave her a definitive answer other than that it wasn't a ghost. I think that the idea of it being a ghost would scare people and make people more likely to go after them rather than humans would," Caitlin answered him.

"Exactly, humanize them so that they can be identified with," Jay agreed. There was a pause before he asked, "it's really weird talking about myself like this, right?"

"Absolutely," she nodded as she'd been feeling the same way.

"Hey guys!" They turned to find Barry waving as he ran at normal speed towards them.

"Barry, where have you been?" she asked him. The annoyance only slightly slipped through her voice.

"Cisco called and I had to go take care of a robber in a getaway van," he told them as he straightened out his jacket. "It took a little longer because the car almost crashed into a wall and I had to get the unconscious guy out of the way to stop the car."

"Is everyone okay?" Jay asked, holding Caitlin a little firmer so she didn't go stomping towards him in anger.

"Yeah, yeah, everyone's fine. The guy's in custody, and the car didn't crash into anything," Barry answered proudly.

"Nice job Barry," Jay told him as he felt Caitlin relax slightly. "Iris is taking a phone call. Caitlin and I are going to go and turn in for the night. Would you thank your sister for a great time and tell her we hope to see her again sometime?"

"Yeah sure thing," Barry said before turning back and saying, "wait, Iris isn't my sister."

"Really? That's what she said you were. She said that her dad adopted you," he said, a little confused.

"I mean, yeah, he did and yeah we grew up together but we're not… it's not… it's not like that for me," he tried to explain but didn't really.

"Oh, alright, well, we'll see you tomorrow then," he told him as they started walking. The two of them walked back to Star Labs where they parted for the night and promised to see each other in the morning.

The Next Morning

Jay entered the main area ready for the daily check-up. Caitlin tried to get Barry to do this too but he had a more hectic life than all of them and pinning him down long enough to do the tests and training was very hard to do. In all honesty, the daily tests were overkill but he let her do them anyway for a few reasons. First, it eased her nerves. Second, he liked catching up with her for the ten minutes it took. Third, it made her easier on Barry, knowing that what was going on with him was about the same.

Caitlin led him to the medical table and he hopped up to let her start. "Good morning," she greeted him as she grabbed her stethoscope.

"Morning," he returned in a cheery voice. "How've you been?"

"Eh, same old same old," she shrugged as she checked his heart. "Anything change for you? Any palpitations? Any period where your heart is beating faster than it should? Any time where your heart felt like it was beating too slow?"

"No, nothing like that," he answered. "I also haven't had any joint discomfort, muscle discomfort, headaches, injuries, sudden flashes of pain, or uncontrollable bursts of speed."

She rolled her eyes at him with a smirk. She was sure Jay had memorized the questions by now. She couldn't blame him. Even she knew that this was boring to him. It didn't mean it wasn't important. Besides, Barry would always find an excuse to skip this so it wasn't like she had very many options.

Cisco came and walked into the room to say hello to Jay when he saw Caitlin performing another check up on Jay. Jay gave him a nod hello before Cisco said, "Caitlin, the man has been tested everyday for the past few weeks. I think he's deserved one day where he can not be prodded by sticks and plastic."

"Cisco, I have very few functions around here and the biggest one lately is being a doctor. Which I might add, is not what I am. So until we are sure that everything has stabilized and we're not going to get another glucose scare, I'm just performing my due diligence," she said as she confirmed his normal temp. "Besides, I only have one subject. I can't get Barry to sit still long enough in order to do some test on him as well. Right now, all I have is Jay and I'll take what I can get."

"Girl, let the poor man take a day. Jay, does it annoy you being poked and prodded everyday the minute you come in?" he asked, shifting his focus from Caitlin to Jay.

Jay froze for a second trying to debate how to work this in favor of both the people staring at him. "I mean I'm happy to answer her questions but I'm not sure the tests need to be daily," he started, making Cisco smile and start pointing at him. "That being said, I understand why she's cautious."

"Fine but still, I think if he were in pain, he would tell us," Cisco told her with Jay nodding in confirmation.

Caitlin at both of them for a few moments before saying, "fine, I will let you off the hook for today. But you tell me the minute something feels funny. I don't care how small it is. You tell me any and all. Got it?"

"I promise," he told her with a smile. He gave her a small pat on the shoulder, knowing just from her look that she believed him.

"So, Dr. Garrick, does that mean we're moving on to training then?" Dr. Wells asked as he moved closer to them.

"Hey guys?" they heard Barry call as he entered the building.

"Hey Barry," Jay greeted him as he walked towards him with the others in tow. "You got time for some training?"

"Uh, no, actually, I've found another meta-human. Well, not them exactly but what looks to be their handiwork," he pulled out some crime photos to show them from his bag. "Look, there are signs of histotoxic hypoxia on all the victims."

"The cells in their bodies were unable to utilize oxygen," Caitlin said as she looked closer at the photos.

"That's consistent with exposure to poisonous gas," Jay added as he looked at a different one.

"What kind of poison?" Cisco asked excitedly.

"I took a lung sample to see if I can narrow it down," he pulled out a vial from his bag to show them before putting it back. "The biggest tip-off that this wasn't just a regular gassing was how the gas seemed to attack them one by one instead of all at the same time. The victims became deceased at different points throughout the room."

"Fascinating, a meta-human that can manipulate poison gas," Dr. Wells said with new intrigue.

"Is it just poisonous gas or can he control all aerated substances?" Cisco questioned.

"And how is he able to formulate the connection?" Caitlin wondered. "Is it physiological or psychological?"

"This individual can create a mental nexus using gaseous substances," Dr Wells concluded.

"You mean connect with gases on a molecular level?" Caitlin pieced together.

"Yes," he confirmed.

"That is ridiculously cool," Cisco smiled.

"There are three big problems though," Jay started, pulling them back to the present. "One, he's on a very large killing spree. Two, We have no way of confronting him without being exposed to this poison gas. Three, What do we do with him once we've captured him? Iron Heights isn't equipped to handle meta-humans. Especially ones like this one."

"Jay's right," Barry agreed as he gathered the pictures back up. "We need someplace else to hold them."

"A meta-human prison," Cisco got excited. "Sweet!"

"Until we figure a way to remove their powers," Dr. Wells put in.

"There is one place here that might hold them," Cisco started planning though knowing that it might not even get off the ground.

"You can't be serious," Caitlin said, praying he wasn't thinking of what she thought he was.

"I mean, we haven't been down there since… it's cordoned off," Cisco continued seeing how far this could go.

"Cisco is right," Dr. Wells agreed.

"It could be modified to act as a makeshift prison," Cisco told them.

"What could?" Barry asked them.

"The particle accelerator," Dr. Wells answered.

As Dr. Wells and Cisco talked about how the repurposing would work, Jay looked over to find Caitlin staring out into the distance.

He'd seen this on occasion back when they were kids. Every so often, someone would bring up her dad and all of her memories of him would start swirling around. Though for all the good ones, the one that would always play would be the day her dad died. It would completely detach her from reality. When this happened, there was an easy solution to pull her back to the present.

He moved a few paces over and placed his hand gently on her shoulder. He looked into her eyes with a gentle confidence and support. A small smile would follow which meant he was still here for her.

Soon her own eyes would lock onto his and a smile of her own would mirror his as the two of them conveyed everything they needed wordlessly. Both of them tucked into a little space away from reality before they resumed listening to the team's plan.

"We should go down to make sure that all the remodeling will work," Cisco told them as the planning stage had finished.

"Indeed," Dr. Wells agreed as he began to follow Cisco.

"Actually, Dr. Wells, I could use Jay's help identifying the poison gas," Barry told him before he got too far away.

"That's fine with me," he assured them.

"I'd be happy to go along but I think that Caitlin and I could crack this quickly with the combined fields," Jay told them.

"I suppose so. Dr. Garrick, I intend on doing some training with you today so let's not waste time on things that have nothing to do with you," Dr. Wells warned him before he and Cisco left to go fix up the accelerator room.

"I'm going to run ahead and get you guys on the visitor's list," Barry told them before speeding off towards the CCPD.

"Thank you," Caitlin told him knowing he'd given her an excuse to skip the trip down there. "At some point, please let me return the favor."

Jay laughed as they walked to the door. "Sure thing but I'd rather we just be happy for the rest of our lives," he told her as he opened the door, his joke earning him a bright and lovely smile from her as they headed towards her car.

A Drive Later

Jay and Caitlin walked into the CCPD. The building was gigantic. If it weren't the police station, it would have been perfect for a museum. Jay could have sworn that once upon a time his mother took him here to see dinosaur bones. He remembered her blue and wheat yellow hat that sat pretty on his mom's blonde hair. Her long fingers wrapped around his hand as she brought him over to the next big creature. Her arms lifting him up to see the head of the zyntholasuar better. Her laughter as he joked that they wouldn't stand a chance against dad. One day long ago before the war had been over and when they were happy.

"Jay? Caitlin?"

They turned to find Iris a few feet away near someone who looked familiar. She waved them over. "I didn't expect to see you guys here," she told them bubbly. "Dad, this is Jay and Caitlin. They're Barry's friends. I met them last night at the movies."

"So you are the guys Barry's been talking about," her dad said, seeming genuine. "I'm Detective West."

"Dr. Jay Garrick," Jay shook hands with him.

"Dr. Caitlin Snow," Caitlin did the same.

"Doctors huh," Det. West mused. "What fields are you two in?"

"Physics and Chemistry," Jay told him.

"Bio-engineering with a medical background," Caitlin replied.

"Ah, brainiacs like Barry," he smiled as he pieced together whatever they gave, verbally and nonverbally. "So what brings you two by?"

"Barry asked if we could take a look at a sample for him. We deal with a lot of the unnatural that's been popping up since the particle accelerator," Jay explained the cover story they came up with in the car.

"Really?" Det. West asked them to which they nodded. "Well, let's see what you've got."

"Pardon?" Caitlin asked confused.

"There has been a lot of weird stuff happening in this town. Now we got these super… people running around town. It's all very weird and the folks around here have no idea about what's going on with them. If you guys are as smart as Iris claims you are, I'd like to see what you guys can come up with," he told them as he stood up and started walking. "Follow me."

They looked to each other, shrugging in lieu of a reason for him not to come, before following Det. West and Iris. This definitely wasn't a part of the plan but they didn't really have much of a choice. From what Barry had told them and seen for themselves, he seemed like a good guy. That didn't deter them from the fact that he was a detective and it was his job to find the truth. They didn't know what he would do if he found out that Jay or Barry was part of The Red-Blue Blur and hoped they wouldn't have to find out.

"Barry," Det. West greeted him as they entered Barry's lab. "I found your friends downstairs. Are you sure they can help us on this?"

"Absolutely," Barry promised as he motioned for them to come over to the samples. "They are the best in their fields and have already had experience with this kind of stuff."

"Alright then," Det. West said. "Let's see whatcha got."

"Lab rat," Captain Singh called as he entered. He looked around confused at the five of them and asked, "what is all this?"

"We're working on the Darbinyan case," Det. West answered him. "They're consultants from…"

"Mercury Labs," Jay answered for him. He was expecting Caitlin to say she was from Star Labs but she never did.

He looked at them skeptically but didn't give it too much thought as he turned to Barry and told him, "I need prints off this gun pronto. Also, where the hell is the fiber analysis on the Orloff case?"

"Upstairs. It's all finished," Barry told him as he took the gun to set it down on one of the desks. "I can just run up and bring it down."

"With you, that could be three days from now. I'll go with you," he told him, nodding towards the door. Barry followed awkwardly behind him. Jay gave him a sign that they would be okay without him for a while.

"Well, That was… something," Caitlin said as she began looking for the sample Barry showed them earlier.

"He'll be fine and back in a few minutes," Jay told her as he started prepping the equipment they would need for the tests.

"I suppose. Found it," she pulled out the sample from Barry's bag and handed it to Jay.

"Nice," he smiled as he put the sample in the first machine.

"You two know what you're doing with that?" Det. West asked as he watched them work.

"Dad, come on," Iris gave him a light shove on his arm. "Barry wouldn't have had them come over if they didn't."

"It's okay," Caitlin assured them, "I specialize in this area. I just don't usually work on samples that are involved in a police investigation." She took the sample out of the machine and placed it in the next one.

"We work with all kinds of machines depending on what our current project is so we're well versed with this kind of equipment," Jay answered as he slipped into a seat and opened up the computer program that connected with the tech. "Now, let's see just what we're dealing with here." Jay felt Caitlin's hand land on his shoulder as she walked up behind him to see what the findings were. He looked to find her leaning a little over the desk with her other hand resting on the edge.

"Hmm, This says that there was no residue of gas in the tissue, poisonous or otherwise," she read off the screen.

"It must have evaporated," Jay said as he scanned some more information.

"We'll need to get a fresh sample," Caitlin concluded as she followed the lines of data. "Wait, this can't be right. This says that there are two distinct strands of DNA inside the tissue."

"How did someone else's DNA get inside the victim's lungs?" Jay asked. He turned to Det. West, "can you run a DNA test against your database?"

"Sure but I can't share any information about the person. Confidentiality and all that," he answered him as they moved out of his way. He ran the search program with no success, "Sorry guys, no match."

"Rats," Jay sighed as they hit a wall. "Why would a chemical attack leave behind another person's DNA inside the victim?"

"What if the meta-human we're looking for doesn't control gas?" Caitlin posed. "What if he becomes it?"

"Wait you're talking about a person turning into poisonous gas?" Joe asked. The look of disbelief all over his face.

"We've seen someone control the weather, someone grow twice their size, and two people who move faster than anything previously known to man. This is not the craziest thing that's come out of the explosion," Jay told him as they looked at the information again.

A police scanner went off and said, "all available units, we have a report of a toxic gas attack in the central city shopping mall."

The two of them looked at each other. Both of them knew Barry had heard about it and was on his way now.

"Okay, you two can go now. If it turns out to be what you say it is, we'll call you. Don't go doing anything stupid or you will be arrested for interfering with a police investigation," Det. West promised them. "Catch Barry up before you leave. If you geniuses find out anything else, let me know."

"Sure thing Detective," Jay replied as Det. West left the room.

"I gotta split too," Iris told them as she grabbed her purse. "This could turn out to be a major story. Bye guys." They stayed where they were until she had left before trying to figure out what to do.

"Okay, what do we do?" Jay asked Caitlin as they looked around the room for anything useful.

"We need to get to Star Labs as fast as possible," she started. "I'm sure Cisco's got a gas mask there. You can wear it and get Barry before he gets himself killed."

"Okay. Do you get motion sickness?" Jay asked her quickly.

"Um, no. Why?" she questioned, confused.

"Hang on," Jay told her.

Caitlin barely had any time to process what was happening. All she remembered was Jay lifting her up into his arms, blue light surrounding them, and a small but powerful gust of wind before in two moments later she was being set down on the floor of Star Labs. She took a breath as she regained her bearings. The car ride over had taken ten or fifteen minutes and yet in a matter of seconds they were back at Star Labs. It was incredible. "Whoa," she gasped, her body taking in a lot of information at once.

"Yeah," Jay agreed as they started walking to find the others. "Dr. Wells? Cisco? Hey, are you guys up here?"

They walked into the main area but neither of them were in sight. Caitlin looked around one of the storage areas. "I found a gas mask!" she called to Jay as she brought over the half-mask respirator. Jay came over already dressed in his super suit. He pulled off his helmet and traded it with her for the mask."Now, This should keep you from inhaling the gas. Grab Barry as fast as you can. Hopefully, we can get him before he does anything reckless. Be careful. I'll be here if anything happens."

"Yes ma'am," he answered as she put on his hat after he put the gas mask on. "I'll be on the com. I'll let you know if anything happens. See you soon."

With a whoosh, he was on his way to the mall. He zipped inside, checking all of the branches before finally finding him a little ways away from what he could only presume was another victim. He hid behind a corner to take his phone out and grab a photo of the guy Barry was talking to.

"I still have one more name on my list," he told Barry threateningly "Don't make me add you to it."

Barry charged at him and just as fast, the killer turned into toxic gas that engulfed both him and Jay who was speeding towards them. Gas made its way into Barry's lungs and Jay had to watch as he couldn't reach him in time. He did the only thing he could think to do. He grabbed Barry and ran him outside as fast as he could. Once outside, he put Barry on the ground.

"Caitlin," he called in the com. Why didn't he grab him earlier? He could have traded spots with him. He had the gas mask on. What was wrong with him? "Barry inhaled some of the gas. I didn't reach him in time." He turned down to face Barry, "Barry, can you hear me?'

"His vitals are weak, but he's alive," Cisco came in. "Caitlin's prepping a crash cart and antidote."

"I can't breathe," Barry choked out.

"Get him back here as fast as you can," Dr. Wells told him calmly. Without another word, Jay slung him over his shoulders and ran as fast as he could back to Star Labs.

"He needs oxygen," Caitlin told them as he entered the main area. "Get him near the crash cart!"

In one swift motion, Barry was lying down on the medical bed, "Stay with us Barry," Jay told him panicked as Caitlin got into position.

"Cut me open," Barry breathed out horribly. "The poison's still in me."

"He brought us a sample," Cisco realized as he helped open up the chest area of Barry's suit.

Caitlin, we need to do a pulmonary biopsy," Dr. Wells told her as he maneuvered his way over to them, "extract an active portion of that gas."

"I can't give you any anesthetic," she started to explain, anxious for him. "Your metabolism will burn right through it."

"I heal quick, remember?" Barry told her, knowing the high amount of pain he was about to endure. "Do it."

"Cisco, give me the syringe," she told him. With the syringe in her hand, she positioned it above his right lung. "This is gonna hurt a lot."

"It's a small needle. You probably won't even feel it," Cisco tried to ease Barry's nerves.

"You're definitely going to feel it," she told him before injecting the needle into his lung. Barry let out a large gasp before going unconscious. She pulled up the plunger and extracted some of his lung tissue. Bits of green were speckled all across the tissue. She raised the needle up out of his chest and watched as the hole disappeared nearly instantly.

"Jay," she called him over. "While you guys were out there, I reverse-engineered the poison from the sample Barry had. Inject it into his other lung and it should cure him. I'm going to get started on this before it evaporates."

He took the new syringe with red serum inside over to Barry. "Alright pal, don't die on me. I'll treat you to a movie or something if you survive," he promised him before injecting the needle. He pushed the plunger and pulled it out. Jay took a few deep breaths before patting him on the shoulder saying, "alright bud. It's up to you now."

He leaned against the side of the bed. It was over for now. There wasn't anything more he could do for Barry. So why was his heart still racing? He took another couple of deep breaths.

"Are you okay man?" Cisco asked him worried.

"I think so," he answered him. "I had the gas mask on the whole time. I didn't breathe in any of the gas."

"Speaking of which, why don't we get that off of you?" he suggested.

"Huh? Oh, right," Jay realized as he took off his hat. He'd been so distracted he forgot he was still wearing the mask. He pulled the mask off and air rushed in after he handed the mask back to Cisco. "Thanks man."

"No problem," he assured him as he put the mask over by the main console. "Did something happen out there? Something rattle you? 'Cause, dude, it's okay. Everyone's fine."

"No, yeah, I mean, Everyone's okay now," Jay agreed, guilt hanging over his words. "It's just... I could have stopped Barry from being poisoned."

"From what Caitlin told me, you guys went as fast as you could," he told him. "You can't beat yourself up over something you could have prevented."

"That's just it though," Jay started. He needed to get this off his chest. "I got there before The guy gassed Barry. Barry was talking to him. I figured if he was distracted, I could get a picture of the guy. You know, help find out his identity and I did. I got the picture but then... all of a sudden Barry goes at the guy and I'm too late. All of this could have been avoided if I had gotten Barry out first."

"Look, you couldn't have known what was going to happen. You tried to do something smart. It didn't help that Barry did something dumb like fighting a poisonous gas with no protection but it's what happened," Cisco said as he sat at the desk. "You did get him back in time to save his life. You got a picture of the meta-human and everyone is going to be fine. Today was a win. Take it."

He was right. He knew he was right. Everything that had happened was chance. Everyone was safe and okay and after a few more deep breaths he started to believe it too. "You're right. Thanks Cisco," he smiled gratefully. "I'm sure I'll feel even better when Barry wakes up."

"We're cool man. Hey, send me the photo. I'll start running it through facial recognition; see if we get any matches," he told him.

"Good idea, actually, I'll take this to Detective West as well. I promised him I'd keep him up-to-date on any information we found," he told him as he sent the picture. "Caitlin's car is still there so I can drive it on the way back."

"That's all well and good as you don't say anything stupid and reveal either you or Barry," Cisco warned him casually.

"I'll be careful. I promise," he told him as he headed over to Caitlin's Lab. She was sitting at her computer, typing away at a program. He gave a small knock on the door letting her know he was there.

"Hey," he greeted her.

"Hey," she greeted him back. "What's up?"

"I'm going back to talk to Detective West and since I'm going out there if you want I could bring your car back on my way out," he offered.

"That would be great actually thanks," she told him, digging her keys out of her pocket. She tossed them lightly to him and he caught them with ease. "Good luck over there. I'll call you if Barry wakes up or something happens."

"Thanks, I'll be back as soon as I can," he told her before zipping to the station.

Big news, today is Robbie Amell's Birthday. Happy Birthday, Ronnie Raymond! In other news, I am close to finishing Part 2 of this Episode. Though it doesn't mean he's getting a bigger part in this. I will likely post the next chapter either tomorrow or the day after. See you all again soon!
