They all woke up at five on Monday morning, groaning slightly at how uncomfortable hotel beds were without proper bedding and the mildew smell of the entire room mixed with vomit and electrical sparks.
"Shit, we didn't think this through," Mondo grumbled, picking up their backpacks. "We can't shower or anything,"
"We can just get breakfast on the road!" Chihiro tried to cheer them up.
"Two more days before we reach Aomori...what else could possibly go wrong?" Leon crossed off yet another thing on his list, eyeing one of the remaining ones. "Wonder who'd wanna do this?"
"Do what?" Mondo asked as they walked outside to the motorcycle.
"Drinkin' our piss. I kinda wrote it on a whim since some rockers are into that, ya know? But we've done nearly everything else so we should do this too,"
"N-No way! We can't do that!" Chihiro strongly declined. "T-That's gross and mean,"
"Says the guy who pissed in the radiation tank," Leon reminded him.
"That's d-different! That was an emergency!"
"What about streaking?"
Chihiro was silent at that.
"As if someone would actually fall for that," Mondo got the bike and revved it up.
"We'll just say it's alcohol," Leon said, sitting behind Chihiro.
They drove along for a while until it was lunchtime; they missed breakfast but weren't super hungry despite their early rising hour and just stopped at a ramen stand, eating their bowls nearby.
"Now this is somethin' I can get behind!" Leon praised, slurping his noodles. "I've been wantin' ramen ever since we started this trip,"
"You eat ramen all the time though," Chihiro pointed out.
"Yeah, so?!"
They slurped at their noodles for a time, also keeping an eye out when a huge rock came sailing through the air and getting Chihiro right on his cheek.
"Ouch!" He cried out, grabbing the spot.
"What's wrong?" Mondo asked instantly.
"I think a rock hit me,"
"A rock?"
Another rock flew and hit Leon on the back of his neck, making him swear at the sting.
"The fuck?!"
Suddenly, a huge barrage of rocks sailed towards them, pelting them on their heads.
"Ouch! Ow!" Chihiro cried. The trio dropped their bowls and dashed away, shielding their necks and heads with their heads to avoid getting hit by anything. As they ran off, Tenko showed up, laughing to herself.
"Haha, you better run! Next time, think twice before you mess with Chabashira Tenko!" She struck a pose before noticing something shiny on the ground. "Hm?" She looked closer and saw it was a key set, smirking. "They won't be needing these anymore!" She idly kicked them away down the street and walked on.
The trio raced back to their motorcycle, breathing heavily. Leon recovered first and looked around in confusion.
"Where's the bike?"
"Huh?" Mondo asked, looking around too.
"Isn't this where we parked it? Or did you get confused?"
"Shit! Someone must've stolen it!" Mondo clenched his fist. "That was my own bike, I've had it for years! Crafty piece of shit...they must've thrown those rocks, made me drop my keys, and then stole it!"
"Oh no..." Chihiro teared up. "How will we get to Aomori now? It had our stuff on it!"
"Calm down kid. We could just take a bus. We ain't far now," Mondo tried to cheer him up. "Still..."
"Hell yeah, tour bus! We could find some groupies!" Leon cheered. "Though, I suppose that would make finding a place to stay at night harder..."
"Best we get walkin' then," Mondo said, walking ahead of Leon and Chihiro, who just tightened their backpack straps and followed.
"Monday already...two more days. We can do this," Leon said, truthfully more to himself than the other two. So much crazy stuff had happened in the span of just five days, some of it they instigated, sure, but some of it was just totally and completely random, not to mention unfair.
They kept walking along until they reached a bus terminal, Chihiro sighing and rubbing his feet as he sat down on a bench to wait. Leon looked around and saw a man chatting eagerly with a woman who had blonde hair and music-themed clothing. He had baggy clothing and purple features and Leon narrowed his eyes when they looked around and shared a quick kiss.
"Hey, I found our target," He pointed him out to Chihiro and Mondo; the former tilted his head.
"Huh? Why him?"
"Just trust me," He ushered Mondo and Chihiro down an alleyway and then stood at the entrance, keeping an eye on both them and the supposed couple. He subtly handed the two empty bottles from his backpack and waved the couple over. "Hey! How's it goin'!"
"Going good!" The man greeted back with enthusiasm.
"Where are you going?" The woman asked nicely.
"Uh, Aomori. You two?"
"Headin' to Sendai, so kinda around the same place!" The man grinned. "Name's Momota Kaito, and this is my girlfriend, Kaede-chan!"
"Kuwata Leon. Remember the name, because it's going to be up in lights some day," He mimed it in the air.
"You're a big dreamer! I like that!" Kaito praised.
Leon subtly took a step back and held his hands behind his back, stepping back when he was handed the bottles. They were both nearly filled to the brim with golden liquid. "Want some alcohol? Good luck and all!"
"Hell yeah!" Kaito took his instantly, while Kaede regarded hers with suspicion. Well, whatever. Leon didn't want to specifically prank her.
The two clinked the bottles together and took big sips and promptly widened their eyes and spat the liquid out in disgust.
"It tastes like..." Kaede began.
"Urine!" Kaito finished.
The bus pulled up and Leon took off running, waving at them. "Pleasure prankin' ya two! Never see ya again!" He was joined by Mondo and Chihiro as they climbed onto the bus at the least second, leaving Kaede and Kaito staring after them, still grossed-out and dumfounded.
They headed to the back, Mondo and Leon holding onto the bars while Chihiro collapsed in an empty seat, gasping.
"I can't believe I had to do that!"
"But now ya got a cool story to tell chicks!" Leon teased.
"I would never tell them that!" Chihiro pouted, clearly upset. Leon took out his phone and crossed out that goal, noticing there was only one thing left to do. Well, technically two, but still. No sense in getting ahead of himself.
They rode along for an hour and a half, Mondo and Leon standing still and Chihiro looking out the window. When the driver announced the last stop of the night, the trio reluctantly got off and Leon pulled out his phone, trying to map out where they were.
"Gotta find a place for tonight," Mondo reminded him.
"I know, we can just stay where-ever," Leon said, looking at the map and then looking around at the scenery. "Ya think they'll let us stay at a motel if we have no car?"
"Let's try a bed-and-breakfast!" Chihiro suggested.
"Nah, one ryokan was enough for me,"
"Not an actual ryokan, a typical bed-and-breakfast, like in America,"
"Sure," Leon eventually shrugged.
They kept walking along, earning some weird looks from passerby as their clothing wasn't in the best shape after sleeping in a trashed hotel room and then spending some time on a crowded bus, but they paid no mind to that.
"There's a place," Mondo pointed out; a brightly-lit sign a block down announcing it had plenty of rooms open. They walked to it and Leon checked in, noticing it was a smaller place with only a few rooms and decided it made sense they still had lots of vacancies then.
Chihiro tossed his bag on his bed, collapsing in exhaustion when Leon looked around the room.
It was small, painted a decent shade of red, a nice rug on the floor, spacious desk, it had a good vibe to it, except for one thing.
There was only one bed.
"Who wants the floor?" Mondo instantly asked, noticing the same thing as him.
"Not me! That shit kills my back, I said that already!" Leon shook his head. "I get the bed,"
"Well that's not fair! It's a big bed and I'm a big guy!"
"S-Since it's so big," Chihiro spoke up shyly. "W-Why don't we just...sleep in it together? Leon-kun and I shared several beds o-over these past few days,"
Right, they did. Primarily because Chihiro was so small it was almost like he wasn't there at times.
"I have no problem with it, but I don't know about Mondo-kun," Leon said, smirking a bit.
"Hell no it ain't an issue! Ya think I can bathe with my bros but not sleep with them? That's bullshit!" He cracked his knuckles and got right in bed, sleeping on the right side.
"T-Then I'll take the middle," Chihiro said quickly, slipping in next to him, leaving Leon the other side. It didn't matter to him, a bed was a bed, as long as it was comfortable and not on the floor. He got in next to them and obviously they didn't snuggle or anything, didn't even move closer to each other, but it did still feel kinda nice to be so close to them. They literally took a bath together and that was as intimate as one could possibly get, sleeping in a bed together? Clothed? Not that bad.
Feeling their combined warmth made him sleepier than expected so he closed his eyes, falling asleep almost instantly for what felt like the first time in that entire trip.
