Hiccup snuck back into his house late that night after waking up, to not disturb his dad who was tending to the fire.

I was such a coward, I couldn't kill one measly dragon? I'm stupid! He thought to himself, just about to go up the stairs, when…

"Hiccup."

He paused, wincing. Just perfect. "Dad! I uh have to talk to you, dad." Stoick approached him, seriousness in his eyes. "I need to speak to you too, son."

The two of them suddenly spoke all at once. "What?" They both asked. "You go first," Stoick offered.

"No, you," Hiccup protested, shuffling his feet.

What happened next shocked him as he went to bed, his dad wanted him to fight dragons with the others? Why now? When he just realized he was too cowardly to kill them?

Hiccup lay down on his bed, deep in thought, wondering where that Night Fury was now as he fell asleep, as his dad left to track down the Dragon Nest.

….

Bing Bong awoke, the birds twittering, still seeing himself in the cove.

I gotta get out of here, he thought, shaking himself awake, then looking around the steep walls.

He spotted a sturdy enough ledge, trying to jump up, grabbing the rock with his talons with all his might, flapping hard, only to slip and fall. Bing Bong flinched in pain as he struck against the ground in a heap, but pushed himself back up to try again.

After the tenth try, Bing Bong had to rest himself, curling up in the shade, tears coming out of his eyes. He suddenly heard the Queen, who can talk to dragons in their heads.

"NIGHT FURY, YOU FAILED ME…I BANISH YOU FROM MY NEST. YOU'll NEVER RETURN, NEVER…"

Bing Bong huffed silently. That was quite fine with him. He never cared about the stupid Queen anyway. His eyes drifted shut again, falling into a light nap, dreaming of Riley.

Hiccup had barely survived being eaten by a Gronckle in his first training session, deciding to explore, and find out where his Night Fury went off to.

After an hour of searching, Hiccup came across a beautiful cove, and even spotted some black scales on the ground. He picked one up, just as a huge mass nearly knocked him over. It was the Night Fury.

Bing Bong sweated, trying again to climb out of his prison that reminded him too much of the Memory Dump.

If I stay here any longer people would forget me all over again… he thought, roaring in frustration and shooting a plasma blast out of anger after another unsuccessful try. Hiccup watched from his spot, drawing the Fury in his journal, wondering why he didn't fly, until he saw the missing tail fin.

Oh no, he thought in sympathy.

Bing Bong's stomach rumbled, giving up on trying to get out, staggering towards the pond, seeing fish. Licking his lips, the former Imaginary Friend knew he had to eat. He crouched there like a cat, waiting. His head dove into the water, but he didn't catch one.

Bing Bong felt miserable, stomach growling, until he heard a clatter sound, and a familiar scent. His eyes trailed up, to see the little boy again, who was frozen, staring.

The two stared at each other for a long time, until something pulled Hiccup from their trance. He had to head back. Bing Bong saw the boy smiling a little at him as he left.

Bing Bong had felt something spark in him when he gazed into the boy's green eyes. They were just so innocent and non violent, like his Riley. The sound of his stomach brought him back, knowing he was gonna have to sleep hungry tonight.
