Chapter 6: Together

At least a dozen police cars surrounded the Agreste mansion. The red and blue flashing lights made Adrian terribly dizzy. Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion. He couldn't even register what Officer Roger was saying to him. His eyes merely focused on Gabriel being forced into a cop car.

The man was quiet and remained emotionless to the officers arresting him. The cuffs clung to his wrist, symbolizing the life sentence he knew he would have to serve after all the damage and evil he caused all of Paris.

Gabriel stole a glance from his son. His look alone was enough punishment for him. Adrian's eyes were full of pain, anger, and most of all disappointment. He knew that he wasn't much of a Father to the boy after Emilie died, but he thought he was doing the right thing. Now, he really lost everything. Even with Adrian's identity leaked as Chat Noir, will the citizens of Paris believe he was still good? His own Father was the worst villain anyone had ever seen in France. Would his son have a future after all the mess he made?

On the other hand, the rest of the teen miraculous holders reunited with their very worried but pissed-off parents. Alya, Nino, and Chloe were escorted safely by the police due to the large crowd of fans, paparazzi, and news reporters that gathered around the crime scene.

Marinette and Nathalie were taken straight to the hospital, and much to Adrian's dismay, he had to be left behind for questioning. He couldn't focus. Adrian felt like he needed to scream. He was so mad at his father, so worried about Marinette and his friends, and so lost as to what he was going to do now. He was basically an orphan. Would he still be Chat Noir now that Hawkmoth was defeated?

"Hey kid, are you okay?"

Adrian snapped out of his trance. The officer was tapping his pen against the rim of his notepad, waiting for answers.

"I'm sorry… I'm just really exhausted," Adrian whispered, his head hanging low.

Officer Roger took pity for the child and closed up his notebook. "I'll tell ya what kid. If you promise to swing by the station tomorrow afternoon, I'll take you to see your girlfriend at the hospital."

The boy's head shot up instantly. "R-Really? That would be amazing."

"Just promise me you'll get yourself patched up too, maybe catch some shut-eye while you're at it." Officer Roger said, placing his heavy arm on Adrian's shoulders, leading him to his vehicle. However, a horde of reporters immediately swarmed the boy with flashing lights and microphones.

"Adrian, did you know your father was Hawkmoth before tonight?"

"Why did you hide your identity from all of us?"

"Did Marinette Dupain-Cheng survive the tragedy that occurred tonight? As our Ladybug, who will return to keep watch over the city if she's gone?"

"What about the other miraculous holders?"

The officer graciously shielded Adrian from the reporters, acting as a bodyguard. "Leave the kid alone guys!"

He swiftly opened the side door and Adrian quickly slid in, wishing he could be rid of this nightmare. Other than Marinette, he couldn't think of anyone who had a more messed-up life than his own. A hero whose father was a villain.

Reporters were tapping against the glass windows of the cruiser, begging for answers, but the boy remained silent. He kept his eyes forward, trying to hold back the tears that he didn't know he had.

The red and blue lights began to flicker. At least he was on his way to see his lady. Right now, that was all that mattered.

Once they arrived at the hospital, Officer Roger pulled up before the emergency drop-off zone. "You sure you'll be alright, kid? Anyone I could call for you?"

Adrian smiled at his kindness but his words still hurt. "No, thank you. There's no one I can call," he said with a sigh. "I'll see you at the station tomorrow. Say hi to Sabrina for me, make sure she checks on Chloe."

Officer Roger tipped his hat to the boy as he closed the door and drove off.

"Adrian, before you go see Marinette, I think you should go get fixed up," Plagg noted, emerging from his usual hiding place.

To the kawmi's surprise, Adrian nodded. "I guess you're right, Plagg. I don't want Marinette to be worried."

Together, they entered the hospital. It was busy. Though it was late at night, the emergency room was half full. The blonde scanned the seating area looking for a place to rest when a nurse dressed in dark blue scrubs gasped and caught his attention.

"Oh my, sweetie, are you okay?" she asked, her eyes full of concern. "Were you caught up in the akuma attack today? No, you would've been healed… Uhm-were you in an accident?" she continued to ramble.

"Uh- yes and no. I'm fine though, I might just need pain meds or something…" Adrian suggested.

The nurse was confused but decided to let it go. "Okay, come follow me."

She led him to a small room covered by curtains. "There are some clothes you can change into on the bed. Just rest here for now, and the doctor will be with you shortly."

Adrian nodded and thanked her before she shut the curtains. Honestly, this was probably one of the first times Adrian was treated, well, normally. As Chat, he would get endless praise and attention, and as Adrian… he would also get endless praise and attention. Both usually entailed being treated better than others. It was a privilege, but for once, it was nice to have something simple.

As he began to undress, an ache from his ribs overwhelmed him when he tried to take off his shirt. "Ugh, Plagg, I thought our suits were supposed to protect us."

The kwami flew out again. "It can only give you so much protection, Adrian. You were fighting all day and constantly transforming. I'm not surprised that some of your injuries are not healed," he stated nonchalantly.

Adrian rolled his eyes and sucked it up. After the dress was on, he caught a glimpse of himself on the monitor. His nose was definitely broken. The bottom of his right eye was a dark purple. There were also a few cuts on his cheeks and neck, probably from all the flying debris.

"Damn, I really do look horrible," Adrian mumbled.

"That's probably why you scared the poor nurse", Plagg added, which actually caused the boy to crack a smile.

He laid down on the bed and groaned. Hospital beds aren't the most comfortable, but to him, it felt like heaven. Adrian finally rested his eyes and allowed himself to rest and drift off, only thinking about Marinette.

After a few hours, which felt like 2 minutes to Adrian, he was woken up by the same nurse who checked on him earlier.

"Excuse me, I'm so sorry to wake you, but Dr. Martinez is here to examine you," she said quietly and politely, which Adrian appreciated due to the horrible headache he woke up to.

He groaned, using his arms to push himself up into a seated position. The doctor walked in and immediately froze up. "Oh my goodness, Mr. Agreste, I'm so sorry. If I knew you were here I would have come right away."

Adrian chuckled uncomfortably. "No, it's okay, really. I needed the rest."

The doctor sighed in relief. "My, my, what have you got yourself into my boy," the man tsked as he lifted Adrian's chin to get a better look at his nose.

He winced in pain, and the doctor took notice. He began to shine a light into Adrian's pupils and began giving him a full check-up.

Once the doctor was finished, he motioned the nurse over to hand him a medical clipboard. "Alright Mr. Agreste, the good news is your nose is not broken. Whoever hurt you missed the bone by a hair. But once you get home, you're going to need to ice it. It will leave a nasty bruise for a while but it will go away."

Adrian was surprised but nodded. Guess he was a bit lucky with Tikki.

The doctor continued. "I'm going to prescribe you some pain relievers. If your nose continues to bleed or if you are in any more pain, do not hesitate to give us a call or come in again. You need to rest, no strenuous activity, and you should take a few days off of school due to your mild concussion."

Dr. Martinez handed him a doctor's note and a prescription for him to pick up later. "Thank you, doctor. I have one question though," Adrian said before he turned to leave and deal with the other patients. "My girl, Marinette Dupain-Cheng, she's here. Can I go see her, please?"

The man's eyes widened. "You're Chat Noir, aren't you?"

Adrian nodded, and the nurse looked as if she was about to faint. She left both Adrian Agreste and Chat Noir in a regular patient room with only curtains.

"Visiting hours are over, my boy. But, since you have saved Paris countless times, I will allow it this once. Nurse Audrey will take you to her."

The nurse blushed furiously and tried to gather herself together. Adrian, on the other hand, being completely oblivious, began gathering his things at lightning speed. He had to know if she was okay.

Nurse Audrey guided Adrian down the hall, but he could still feel her staring at him warily. He let out a fake cough to get her attention. "So, um, don't worry about the whole bed situation back there. It's really okay."

The girl smiled. "Thank you so much, Mr. Agreste. I meant no disrespect. We were just so busy and-"

"It's really okay," Adrian interrupted. Scared that if he didn't she would never stop.

Audrey blushed and whispered a sorry, but Adrian just gave her a wholesome smile in return. "She's in here. She's most likely asleep, but we gave her a full examination. I'm sure she will be just fine."

A weight was lifted from Adrian's chest, but he needed to see her for it to be true. He gave the nurse one last word of thanks before quietly turning the knob to lead him to his lady.

The room was dark, and the constant beep of the heart monitor hurt his head, but then, he saw her. Adrian had to restrain himself from running and jumping right on top of her to hold her close. Gently, he closed the door, hoping she wouldn't wake up.

Marinette looked so peaceful. The window on the far right of the room let in the light of the moon causing her skin to glow. Out of anxiety, Adrian stared at the heart monitor to see her heart beating and glanced over to her chest, only to see the constant rise and fall of her breath.

"She's alive. She's okay," the boy whispered to himself for reassurance.

He took another look around the room to find a chair to sit beside Marinette's bed. There was only a medium-sized sofa, so he had to lift it to bring it to her side. The chair was heavier than it looked and made a loud creaking noise in his attempts to lift it.

"Geez Adrian, you could be a little quieter you know," Plagg retorted.

The boy rolled his eyes. "Why don't you help me out then," he shot back.

"You're here!"

The two turned to the voice. Tikki emerged from Marinette's purse which was safely placed on her nightstand.

Tikki flew over to Adrian and hugged his cheek. Adrian smiled and held the kwami close. "I'm so glad you're okay! Marinette still hasn't woken up yet, but I think she'll be okay."

"That's good news, Tikki. Thanks for looking after her," Adrian replied in a hushed tone as the girl began to stir in her sleep.

He decided to abandon the chair. It would be too loud anyways. The bed could technically fit the two of them since the hospital was generous enough to give Ladybug such a nice room.

Adrian decided to quietly make his way over to Marinette to hold her hand. Her small, dainty hands were soft but cold. The boy unconsciously held her hands with his own to warm them up.

Without realizing it, the girl's eyes started to flutter open. "Adrian," she murmured.

Everyone looked at Marinette. "Hi princess, sorry I'm late," Adrian whispered, noticing she was still half asleep.

Still groggy, she extended her arms to her boyfriend for a hug and Adrian took it without hesitation. Her tired arms wrapped around his neck and the boy lifted the blankets to swiftly slide into the bed with her.

To make sure she was comfortable, he tucked her in and carefully placed her head on his chest so that he could play with her hair while she slept; something he adored doing.

The small girl in his arms let out a hum of relaxation and approval as their bodies intertwined. Adrian played with her hair, gently smoothing out the tangles. For a moment, all of his worries about his father and Marinette drifted away. With her by his side, everything felt like it was going to be okay.

"I love you, Marinette," the boy said as the two drifted off into a deep sleep.

Tikki checked on them both before joining Plagg on the window sill.

As the red kwami floated next to him, Plagg sighed. "You shouldn't have done that sugar cube. I know you wanted to save Marinette, but you know what is going to happen now, don't you."

Tikki looked down, guilt clouding over her. "You don't think I know that, Plagg. Kwami's don't feel love for a reason. There isn't anyone else I care about more than Marinette. The only one who is going to pay the price for what I did, is me," she concluded.

"That's where you're wrong, Tikki." She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "I care about you. I know I don't love you because that's impossible for us. But if something happens to me-"

"No." Tikki interrupted. "Nothing is going to happen to you, Plagg. It can't-I can't-I can't keep losing the people I care about," she let out, tears finally falling.

"Oh sugar cube, you're so sensitive," Plagg said sarcastically, trying to lighten the mood. "You're gonna be fine. But just promise me you'll always take care of them, okay?"

The two kawmis looked over to their sleeping miraculous holders, finally resting and at peace.

Tikki sighed. "I don't need to, because I'll always have you for that. Like the way we always have, together."

Plagg rolled his eyes at Tikki dogging his question but gave in. "Alright sugar cube. Together."
