Chapter 6- Last Goodbye
~Two weeks Later~
"Okay, we will, thank you. No I'm sure you've done all you can, thank you."
There was a pop as Ron, Sirius and Remus entered the living room.
"Who were you talking to Hermione?" Ron asked.
"It was Draco's Healer. Draco's condition has deteriorated; he says we should bring James in to say our goodbyes. They don't expect him to last much longer," Hermione told them, tears glistening in her eyes. "Oh the poor little mite is going to be an orphan. It's just too sad. All these lives that have been wrecked by Voldemort, that are still being wrecked by Voldemort even after he's dead."
"It's Lily and James all over again," Sirius said to Remus as James came toddling into the room with his toy broomstick.
"Go flying?" he asked.
"Come here James," Sirius said tapping his knee and James climbed up onto Sirius' knee. "We're going to take you to see daddy Draco today. You need to tell daddy Draco that you love him, and say goodbye"
"Goodbye? Why? Where daddy going? Is he coming back?" James asked his voice quivering.
"Daddy Draco is very unwell. We think he's going to join daddy Harry in Heaven."
"Why?" James sobbed.
"The healers can't make daddy better, I'm so sorry James," Sirius said hugging the sobbing boy.
Ron, Hermione, Sirius and Remus carrying James entered Draco's ward. James burst into tears at the site of Draco lying unconscious in bed with tubes and lines everywhere and a least a dozen instruments all beeping and humming away. A healer was busy checking the instruments.
"His heart rate is very low," the Healer informed them. "And his breathing is uneven. I'll leave you alone just now but if there are any changes give me a call."
"Thank you," Hermione whispered she seemed incapable of any louder sound.
"Hey Draco," Ron said pulling up a seat next to Draco's bed. "I wanted you to know that you've been a great friend the last five and half years. You really did make Harry very happy you know. I'm going to miss you, but I promise you James will never want for anything. I'll make sure of it. Just you take care of yourself alright mate?" Ron's voice was cracking. "Say...say hi to Harry from me." Ron sat back in his seat unable to continue.
"Draco," Sirius said. "That wee lad of yours is going to miss you terribly. You were a great father to him. You gave him a great start in life. I'll make sure he's the brightest kid in his year. I'll teach him everything I know. I promise. I'll miss you. You take care."
"I promise I won't let Sirius give James his wand," Remus said. "We'll meet again."
"Oh Draco," Hermione said taking his hand as tears spilled down her face. "I'm going to miss you so, so much. I love you Draco. We all do. James is here, he came to see you. I promise you no matter what me and Ron will take care of him for you." Hermione took James from Remus and settled him onto her lap so he could be near Draco.
"Daddy?" James wee voice quivered and the crystals bobble beeped and Draco heart rate picked up slightly. James leaned over to the bed and hugged Draco. "Daddy. Goodbye daddy. I love you daddy."
The crystal bobble that was beeping slowly stopped beeping and made one long continuous beep.
"He's flat-lining!" Sirius said jumping up and dashing out the door to call a Healer.
"Code blue," came a voice over the tannoy. "Code blue, room 425, crash team to room 425, code blue, code blue."
Sirius came dashing back into the room about two seconds before a team of healers came charging into the room, wands drawn. Everyone leaped up from their seats and scrambled to get out of the way.
"He's in cardiac arrest," the first Healer shouted, after checking the carotid pulse.
"Starting CPR," said the second Healer, and pointed his wand at Draco's to perform chest compressions. After five compressions, he stopped and the first Healer pointed his wand at the oxygen bubble that contracted and forced air into Draco's lungs.
"Clear!" Shouted the third healer who had been charging his wand. The first two Healers stepped back and the third healer shot an electrical charge into Draco's chest, before the second Healer starting pumping Draco's chest again. In the background, James was sobbing and screaming.
"Daddy! Daddy!"
"Clear," said the third Healer and shot another electrical charge into Draco's chest.
After ten minutes, the first Healer put away his wand.
"Call it," he said to the second Healer shaking his head.
"Time of death," the second Healer looked at his watch. "14.02"
"I'm so sorry," the first Healer said turning to Ron, Hermione, Sirius and Remus. "He's dead."
"No!" James screamed and climbed up onto the bed on top of Draco. "Daddy wake up. Wake up daddy." James pounded his fists on Draco's chest. "Wake up daddy. I don't like this game it's not funny. Wake up daddy! Daddy!"
"Come on James, come here," Hermione tried to lift James off Draco.
"NO!" James screamed clutching at Draco's pyjama top. "No! Daddy! Daddy come back! Come back daddy!"
"Help me," Hermione said to the others, tears streaming down her face.
"James," Sirius said.
"Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Wake up daddy! It's not funny!"
James beat his little fists against Draco furiously.
"Daddy! Daddy"
Well that's it completed. Hope you liked it and didn't cry too much. Let me know what you thought.
