Chapter Six: Cliff Jumping

...

..

...

Bella was gone.

The boys had spent a half hour to an hour trying to find her. They knew Charlie would be pissed for losing his daughter after he had given them very clear rules to keep a watchful eye on her and dealing with him was scarier than any demon the boys had ever met. They tried hollering for her, but to no avail. Dean grew agitated while Sam tried to keep calm and collected, which only made Dean grow even more aggravated. He didn't like it when Sam tried to be calm about things, especially things that pissed him off.

Bella needed a breather from the boys. All they had done was make her situation worse and all she wanted to do was see him.

She knew it really wasn't him and it was only a figment of her imagination, but it was better than nothing. So, she made her way to the edge and stared at the water hitting the bottom of the cliff harshly. The weather had turned from fairly decent to windy and cold. Bella's eyes watched the waves crashing against the cliff wall and the desire to jump became stronger and stronger.

It wasn't to try to kill herself, but it was so she could feel the adrenaline. So she could see the mirage of Edward.

"Don't do this." She could hear his voice beside her and it echoed in her ears. Her breathing stopped and her face wrinkled with anxiety.

"You wanted me to be human.." She spoke. Her voice quivered as her hands slowly began reaching for the zipper of her coat. "Watch me." Her fingers grasped at the zipper and she quickly began ripping her coat off. Her bracelets and rings joined her coat on the ground as she peered over the edge once more.

"Please." The voice begged. "For me."

"You won't stay with me any other way!" Bella shouted over the waves.

"Bella, please." He begged again. Bella watched the water longingly and drew in a deep breath before taking that final step and jumping.

Sam and Dean had ran through the thicket of trees to find Bella at the last minute and taking that final step. They watched as her body disappeared from the top of the cliff down to the water.

"Bella!" The boys shouted in unison. They ran to the edge to find the bubbles of where Bella had landed. They watched for several minutes, waiting for her head to pop up from beneath the water. The fall was blissful for Bella. It gave her a minute to feel free and genuinely happy since Edward left and Jacob turned. Once she had hit the water, she began forcing her body to move to reach the surface of the water. Her head popped through the water and Sam and Dean gave a sigh of relief, watching her from the top. Bella smiled as her heart raced with excitement. She did it! She cliff jumped! She had thought it was fun since the moment Jacob told her about it. She looked ahead to see a large wave coming towards her and tried to drop underwater before it hit her. The wave crashed into her body, sending her underwater with no preparation.

Sam and Dean watched carefully as the wave crashed into her and she was sent underwater. Dean began ripping his coat and flannel off and tossed it to the ground with Bella's belongings.

"That's it. I'm going in." Dean said, stepping closer to the edge. Sam grabbed at Dean's elbow pulling him away.

"What the hell are you thinking, Dean?" Sam exclaimed.

"Sammy, we don't have time to argue about this!" Dean ripped away from his brother's grip and took another step to the ledge. He drew in a deep breath and held it as he jumped into the water. Sam watched worriedly as his brother fell into the water.

Dean plunged into the water and swam upward towards the surface. The waves crashed all around his body as his head pushed through the water.

"Bella!" He shouted, scanning the open water for her. "Bella, where the hell are you?!" He drew in a deep breath as he plunged back into the water and began searching for her. His eyes scanned from the murky water to find any sign of her.

Back on the top of the cliff, another figure ran through the thicket of trees and found Sam peering over the edge.

"What the hell is going on here?" He questioned. Sam spun to see a large Native boy coming closer to him.

"I can ask you the same, who the hell are you?" Sam asked defensively. He wasn't sure who he was dealing with, but was prepared for a fight. The boy looked at the ground to see Bella's and Dean's belongings and his eyes shot up at the tall man in front of him.

"Where's Bella?" He shouted. "What did you do with her?" He shouted again, placing his hands against Sam's chest and pushing him away from the cliff. Sam backed up and looked at the boy in astonishment.

"You know Bella?" He asked. The boy looked at Sam and stepped away from him.

"She's my friend."

"Yeah, well she's my family."

"She didn't mention any family coming to town."

"Yeah, well it was a surprise visit."

"Where is she?" The boy asked again.

"She jumped." Sam responded, looking towards the water.

"She what?" He began to shout again. "Are you serious?"

"Don't worry, my brother went in after her!" Sam exclaimed, placing his hands on the boy's shoulder. "What is your name?" He wanted to try to calm the boy down before he did anything drastic.

"The name is Jacob." He responded. "Jacob Black." Sam recognized the name. It was who Bella had been spending her extra time with since Edward had left.

"Well, Jacob, don't worry. My brother will get her out." Sam said in a soothing voice. Jacob looked to the water to see a figure with bright, red hair in the water. He growled under his breath, knowing it was Victoria the bloodsucker lurking about in the water. He really hated vampires. He looked at Sam and gave him a small smirk.

"Well, let's see who can get to her first." He tore off his shirt and tossed it carelessly to the ground.

"Wait!" Sam exclaimed, trying to stop him but was too late. Jacob had already plunged into the water. He grumbled under his breath as he grabbed everyone's belongings and began hiking down to the rocky beach.

Underwater, Bella had struggled to reach the surface. The waves just continued to knock her down further into the water. When she had finally regained her composure and stopped getting knocked around, she took a minute before trying to swim up to the surface. In front of her, a figure began swimming towards her. She could see the red hair gracefully moving about the water as she came closer. Her heart raced and she began to panic. Bella, not realizing her back was up against the cliff wall, tried swimming backwards to get away from her. She knocked into the wall as hard as she could and a piece of jagged rock had struck her in the back of the head. Hitting the cliff and running out of breath was enough for her to lose consciousness. She began descending further into the water.

As she fell, she could see the image of Edward. She reached for his hand and as her arm stretched, something had grabbed her by the elbow, pulling her away from him.

...

"Breathe." Jacob ordered as he pressed his hands against her chest and began performing CPR. "Dammit, breathe Bella." He ordered again before pushing against her chest once more. Sam and Dean watched Jacob work closely behind. Both Jacob and Dean had been dripping wet and while Jacob was fine, still shirtless, Dean was shivering under his coat and flannel.

Bella coughed and water spurted from her mouth. Sam and Dean moved closer while Jacob caressed her face as she came to.

"Bella? Bella, can you hear me?" He asked worriedly. Bella's eyes slowly opened as she regained consciousness. Her eyes met with Jacob's and soon, she had seen Sam and Dean next to her as well. Jacob gave a sigh of relief. He lifted her off the rocks and closer to his chest.

"What the hell were you thinking?" Jacob scolded in a gentle voice.

"I just wanted to see something." Bella shivered.

"Like, what?" Dean questioned. His voice differed from Jacob's. It was hard and stern. He wasn't afraid to yell at her because she knew better.

"Dean." Sam warned gently.

"No, Sam!" Dean exclaimed, kneeling down next to Bella. "Were you trying to see death?"

"Dean, I just wanted to have fun."

"That's fun?!" He yelled again.

"Okay." Sam said, pulling his brother away. "You need to take it down a few notches. The girl just came to."

Suddenly, another shirtless figure ran up on the beach, yelling at Jacob.

"Get her home!" He shouted. Jacob looked towards Same Uley as he held Bella. "I'm going to go help out back at Harry's place!" Jacob gave Sam a slight nod of approval before he ran off again.

"What happened at Harry's?" Bella questioned. Jacob drew in a deep breath and hesitated. "Jacob?" Bella questioned again.

"Harry Clearwater had a heart attack. Charlie and my Dad are over at his place with his family." Jacob explained.

"Is he okay?"

"He's gone."

Silence filled the air as the news struck Bella. Jacob looked towards the boys and held his arm out.

"Can I get her coat, please?" He asked. Sam handed him Bella's coat and Jacob wrapped it around her. "I'm not sure if this flimsy thing will work, so we'll stop by at my place and I'll get you something else." Jacob explained, lifting Bella up to her feet.

"How about a nice big blanket for me, huh?" Dean questioned as they began moving away from the beach. Sam rolled his eyes at his brother as they followed behind Bella and Jacob to the Impala.
