He wasn't sure what he had expected to happen that night, but definitely this had never crossed his mind. When he asked Miroku to get one of those concealing bracelets his family's temple used to make for youkais that needed to hide their youki back in the day, he was planning to finally take into her unspoken offer and enter her room, obviously he would not wake her up, he would not talk to her, he was not ready for that just yet, but he wanted to be in the same space with her for once, his previous determination of settling for just watching her from the distance long forgotten. But in order for him to succeed on his plan and avoiding the inevitable confrontation he would need to hide his presence from her miko senses. That was the bracelet for.

While wearing it in theory he would become invisible for her. Just what he needed.

Miroku looked at him suspiciously and almost refused his request when he didn't explain what he needed one for, but when he kindly remembered him how he was currently living in his house without paying rent just so he could live his life the way he wanted, he had graciously agreed to get him one.

He had made all the necessary preparations, physical and emotional ones, for this precise moment. His heart was pounding in his chest with the adrenaline and the anticipation of being able to breath in her scent again, he would not touch her though, that would be too much too soon, but being able to see her from a close range was more than enough to have him jumping on the inside.

All that excitement died as soon as he enter her family's land, though. She was not there, he could feel it. Her scent was not fresh, he assumed that the last time she step foot on the house had been that morning, and she hadn't come back yet. Still in denial, he had climbed up to his usual spot on the tree, as if magically she would be laying on her bed with the dim light of the lamp lighting up her face for him to see. But there his eyes confirmed what his nose had already told him, Kagome was not there, she was gone again…
