Ever Realm Chronicles - a Sofia the First fanfic

Chapter 6: A Day in November

November 20, 1871

It was a sunny Monday morning in the Kingdom of Cariza. Inside the royal palace of Cariza, King Joaquin walked into the workshop of Corbett, the royal sorcerer of Cariza. Corbett was the good clone of Cedric that Cedric had created to throw people off from his evil plans.

"Good morning, Corbett," Joaquin greeted. "I understand we've received the instructions from Enchancia on how to make the cure for the illness that is going around the Ever Realm."

"Yes, King Joaquin," Corbett acknowledged as he put on a pair of reading glasses. "I was just about to read the list of ingredients."

"How are the reading glasses working out, Corbett?" Joaquin wanted to know.

"They are working out well, King Joaquin," Corbett answered. "Turns out when Cedric cloned me, he botched the job a little. Over time, my ability to read things started to go downhill. But, these reading glasses have improved the situation one hundred percent."

"Glad to hear it, Corbett," Joaquin smiled. "I understand that Lady Candice of Enchancia had a similar problem with her eyes."

"Yes, King Joaquin," Corbett confirmed. "When Maleficent cloned her, the cloning wasn't exactly perfect. Over time, Candice found that she needed glasses. I guess the process of cloning somebody isn't an exact science."

"Be that as it may, cloning gave life to you," Joaquin happily pointed out. "You're the best royal sorcerer a king could ask for."

"Thank you, King Joaquin," Corbett said, touched.

"It's praise well deserved," Joaquin acknowledged as he put his hand on Corbett's shoulder in a sign of friendship. "How about we go over this list of ingredients?"

"Let's get started then, sir," Corbett responded as the two started going over the list.

Later that morning in Enchancia, at Enchancia Castle, the royal family of Enchancia stood outside the castle waiting for a special guest to arrive.

"Who may I ask is coming?" eleven-year-old Hikari asked Queen Miranda.

"My eldest daughter, Lydia," Miranda smiled. "She's Queen of Lacorinth, as well as the royal sorceress of Lacorinth."

"You'll love her," eighteen-year-old Sofia happily said to Hikari.

In a few minutes, a flying carriage landed in the courtyard of Enchancia Castle. At that same moment, Baileywick stepped forward to announce Lydia's arrival. "Presenting Queen Lydia of Lacorinth."

Some trumpets sounded as a 29-year-old Lydia stepped off of her flying carriage, and Baileywick held out his hand to help Lydia off.

"Baileywick," Lydia smiled.

"Good to see you again, Queen Lydia," Baileywick smiled back.

Lydia walked up to where the Enchancian royal family was waiting. Lydia and Miranda then hugged.

"Mom," Lydia smiled.

"Lydia," Miranda smiled back. "It's so good to see you. I take it you and your family received the cure for the illness?"

"I cooked it up myself, Mom," Lydia responded. "Everybody at Lacorinth Castle has taken it, and the cure is being distributed throughout Lacorinth as we speak."

"Lydia," Roland greeted as he stepped forward.

"Dad," Lydia smiled as the two embraced.

"Lydia!" Sofia called out in glee as she and Lydia hugged.

"Looking good, Sof," Lydia praised as she looked around and saw eighteen-year-old Lucinda, nineteen-year-old Amber, nineteen-year-old James, and eleven-year-old Hikari.

"Lucinda," Lydia smiled. "Amber, James. And you must be Hikari."

"Yes, ma'am," Hikari acknowledged as she curtsied.

"None of that now," Lydia happily pointed out. "I'm your sister. Call me Lydia."

"Yes, ma'am ... I mean, Lydia," Hikari happily said.

"There you go," Lydia smiled at Hikari. "We're going to become fast friends, you and I."

At that moment, an owl with alloy orange and red feathers flew up and landed on Lydia's shoulder.

"Oh, my!" Hikari exclaimed, taken off guard.

"Not to worry," Lydia reassured Hikari. "This is Eezeyal, my owl. He's really quite friendly."

"May I pet him?" Hikari asked.

"Eezeyal loves attention," Lydia smiled. "Go ahead."

Hikari gently stroked Eezeyal, as Eezeyal leaned into Hikari's gentle touch.

"He likes you," Lydia happily pointed out to Hikari. "You've made yourself a friend."

"Shall we be heading into the castle?" Roland asked. "We have refreshments ready ... and some cut-up fruit for Eezeyal."

"Sounds good, Dad," Lydia acknowledged with a smile.

Meanwhile, in Dunwiddie

At that same moment in the Village of Dunwiddie, Miss Elodie and her thirteen-year-old adopted daughter (Lisa) were boarding a flying carriage parked in front of their house. The carriage driver helped Miss Elodie and Lisa aboard the carriage before climbing into the driver's seat of the carriage. In a few moments, the carriage and its flying horses took flight.

"What's going on, Mom?" Lisa asked.

"I'm not quite sure, my precious one," Miss Elodie answered. "All I know that earlier this morning my lawyer arrived and handed me this pouch which is to remain sealed until I'm instructed to open it."

Lisa looked at the sealed pouch. It was a fancy leather pouch with an emblem imprinted on it.

"House Scorpella," Lisa read aloud. "Isn't that ... the same house that Queen Annora belongs to?"

"Yes, Lisa," Miss Elodie acknowledged. "One of the oldest magical houses in existence. A house with a proud history. Even prouder with such a member as Annora the witch queen."

"Then I take it we're seeing Queen Annora?" Lisa wanted to know. "Why?"

"Yes, and I don't know why," Miss Elodie admitted. "All I know is I was handed this pouch and told that Queen Annora wanted to see the two of us. I'm as puzzled as you are."

"It has to be important for Queen Annora to summon us," Lisa pointed out.

"Yes," Miss Elodie agreed as she stared off into space.

"What is it, Mom?" Lisa inquired.

"Just thinking about the past," Miss Elodie started. "My adoptive parents died around this time of year when I was twenty-one. They were coming home from visiting friends when their train went off the tracks. I had just started teaching at Royal Prep when it happened."

"I'm so sorry," Lisa said in sympathy.

"Thank you, Lisa," Miss Elodie acknowledged, grateful.

"Mom," Lisa started. "I've always been curious. You have magical powers, but you obviously weren't born a witch."

"Ah, yes," Miss Elodie smiled. "I was adopted when I was a baby. Who my birth parents are remains a mystery. All I know is that I've always had a high degree of magical ability. When I became of age, I was enrolled in Hexley Hall."

"You were in Hexley Hall?" Lisa asked, impressed.

"Yes," Miss Elodie answered. "I was in Pepperton House. After I graduated, I went for my teaching certificate. I taught for a time at Hexley Hall, then I was offered a teaching position at Royal Prep."

"Quite the history," Lisa admitted with a smile.

"I guess you could say I've gotten around," Miss Elodie smiled back.

"What were your adoptive parents like?" Lisa wanted to know.

"They were teachers at Enchancia University," Miss Elodie revealed. "They were kind, caring parents. I couldn't have asked for better. You would have liked them, Lisa. And I know they would have liked you."

Lisa smiled at the compliment. In a few minutes, the flying carriage entered the witch territory which bordered Enchancia. A few minutes after that, the flying carriage approached Queen Annora's palace. The palace sparkled in the sunlight because of its shiny white bricks. As Miss Elodie and Lisa looked upon the impressive sight, the flying carriage landed in the courtyard of the palace as a woman in her thirties walked up.

"Hello," the woman greeted Miss Elodie and Lisa. "My name is Helena Vella. I'm Queen Annora's Chief of Staff. If the two of you will follow me, I'll take you to Queen Annora."

Meeting Queen Annora

Miss Elodie and Lisa followed Helena into the palace. As Miss Elodie and Lisa walked through the palace, they were very impressed with the artwork which hung on the walls. In a few minutes, they approached a grand doorway which was engraved with fancy gold leaf.

"Please wait here," Helena instructed as she opened the door and walked inside.

As Miss Elodie and Lisa waited, they could hear a conversation taking place in the room where Helena entered.

"Gloriana Elodie and her daughter are here, My Queen," Helena reported.

"Please show them in," a woman's voice responded.

Helena walked out of the room and approached Miss Elodie and Lisa. "Queen Annora is expecting you," Helena announced. "Please, go inside."

Miss Elodie and Lisa walked into the room as Helena left, closing the door behind her. Miss Elodie and Lisa saw an older woman sitting in a grand chair. While the woman was older, she still had a look of strength despite her age.

"Greetings," the woman smiled. "I'm Queen Annora. Please sit down."

Miss Elodie and Lisa sat down on chairs that faced Queen Annora.

"I imagine you are wondering why I summoned the two of you," Queen Annora theorized.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Miss Elodie responded.

"I was stricken with the illness that recently plagued the Ever Realm," Queen Annora began. "I was close to death. Then, a cure was found, and that cure saved me. Ever since then, I began to think about a secret I've been carrying for many years. It's time for that secret to come out. Allow me to tell the two of you a story."

"Of course, Your Majesty," Miss Elodie agreed.

"Many years ago, my witches and warlocks clashed with Shuriki of Avalor," Queen Annora reported. "At that time, she had many powerful magical associates. Battle after battle, we would come close to winning, but she and her associates would always gain the upper hand."

"Shuriki was a piece of garbage," Lisa said under her breath.

"I agree with you completely, young Lisa," Queen Annora revealed. "I understand your birth parents were killed by Shuriki. I share your hatred of her. You see, I lost somebody to Shuriki, too - my husband. It happened in the final battle between my people and Shuriki's associates."

"I'm very sorry for your loss, Your Majesty," Miss Elodie said in sympathy.

"Thank you," Queen Annora acknowledged. "Most kind. I was pregnant at the time with my second daughter. Shuriki vowed revenge for me and my people going up against her. She threatened my unborn child with death if she ever got the chance. When the child was born, I was forced to secretly send her away for her own safety. She wound up being adopted by a fine couple, and knows nothing about me being her birth mother."

"Are you planning to tell her about that at some point, Your Majesty?" Miss Elodie asked, curious.

"That is why you are here," Queen Annora announced. "The truth of the matter is ... you are that child."

"Oh my God!" Lisa exclaimed as Miss Elodie sat back in her chair, stunned at the news.

"There must be some mistake," Miss Elodie said in disbelief. "I'm just Gloriana Elodie. Certainty not royalty."

"Please open the pouch you were given," Queen Annora instructed. "You'll find the proof you are seeking inside."

Miss Elodie opened the pouch and discovered an official letter from her lawyer saying that the contents of the pouch were genuine. Miss Elodie then brought out an official birth certificate which gave a birth date, and birthplace, and read: "Gloriana Allegra Scorpella, daughter of Nicholas Prospero Scorpella and Annora Blaise Scorpella."

"Gloriana Allegra are my first and middle names," Miss Elodie acknowledged. "If I was adopted as a baby, why do I have the same first and middle names?"

"Because I instructed your adoptive parents to keep your first and middle names," Queen Annora revealed.

"They knew?!" Miss Elodie asked in shock.

"It was necessary," Queen Annora explained. "I hand-picked them to be your adoptive parents, and they needed to know about your background to keep you safe. That's all we ever wanted ... for you to be safe."

"Since you put it like that, then I can accept it," Miss Elodie conceded.

"I know this must be a shock," Queen Annora admitted. "I'd like the chance to know you and your daughter better. I've arranged for us to have lunch together ... if that's acceptable?"

"Yes, that's acceptable, Your Majesty," Miss Elodie agreed.

Back at Enchancia Castle

Dorrie walked into the Secret Library, and with a wave of her hand opened a secret door that led to the First Story Keeper's Tardis. Dorrie then walked up to the Tardis, opened the door, and stepped inside. As Dorrie started dusting the Tardis console, she heard movement behind her. Dorrie spun around to see Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby standing there.

"You have ... a Tardis?!" Lucinda asked, taken off guard.

"How?" Sofia wanted to know.

"Well, this secret is out of the bag," Dorrie signed in defeat.

"We were up on an upper level of the library looking at some books," Abby revealed. "We saw you come in here, and we got curious. Is this thing really bigger on the inside than the outside?"

"Yes, you're not seeing things, Abby," Dorrie said in a reassuring voice.

"How do you have a Tardis, Dorrie?" Amber wanted to know.

"I can answer that," a man's voice came from behind the group. The man was the First Story Keeper. "I am a renegade Time Lord, like The Doctor. I have evolved to such a point that I no longer need a Tardis to travel. So, I gave my Tardis to Dorrie and Candice for safe keeping. Their amulets allow them to fly the Tardis."

"Actually, that knowledge has now become a part of Candice and me," Dorrie admitted. "We no longer need our amulets to fly the Tardis. We can fly the Tardis without our amulets because that knowledge is now a part of our being. I guess it's something our amulets do over time."

"You actually have a Tardis!" Amber said in glee.

"Sorry for keeping this a secret," Dorrie apologized. "We didn't want every Tom, Dick, and Harry knowing there was a Tardis here."

"Quite understandable," Sofia commented. "A wise precaution."

"A Tardis could come in handy from time to time ... with you or Candice at the controls, of course," Lucinda smiled.

"Then you're not mad at me and Candice for keeping this a secret?" Dorrie wanted to know.

"It was something that had to be guarded," Sofia admitted. "How can we be mad at you?"

"Can we have a look around?" Lucinda asked, hopeful.

"Of course," Dorrie happily agreed.

Meanwhile, back at Queen Annora's palace

Queen Annora, Miss Elodie, and Lisa were seated at a fancy dining table as some witch and warlock servants served lunch. As the lunch was being served, Queen Annora, Miss Elodie, and Lisa talked among themselves.

"I imagine this must be overwhelming for the two of you," Queen Annora commented to Miss Elodie and Lisa.

"In a word, yes, Your Majesty," Miss Elodie admitted.

"Please, call me mother," Queen Annora requested, before turning to Lisa. "And please call me grandmother."

"Yes, Your Majesty ... I mean, Mother," Miss Elodie responded, still getting used to the idea.

"Yes, Grandmother," Lisa responded.

"First off, I want to reassure the two of you that your lives will pretty much remain the same," Queen Annora started. "You're a teacher, Gloriana. I wouldn't dream of taking that away from you. And the two of you will remain living in your home in Dunwiddie."

"I should ask, Mother ... what will be changing?" Miss Elodie wanted to know.

"Yes, that," Queen Annora responded. "Both you and Lisa are now royalty, and each of you will now have the title of princess. The two of you will be attending official functions here at the palace, but beyond that, your lives will be your own."

Miss Elodie sighed in relief that her and Lisa's lives wouldn't be changing all that much.

"Then there is the matter of a fortune for each of you," Queen Annora announced.

"What?!" Miss Elodie and Lisa exclaimed in shock.

"When you were adopted, Gloriana, I put away a fortune for you," Queen Annora revealed. "And as soon as I found out you had adopted Lisa, I put a fortune away for her as well. I want the two of you to be well off."

"This is ... incredible," Lisa said in awe.

"It is very generous of you, Mother," Miss Elodie said, honored, to Queen Annora. "Thank you."

"You're welcome. I want my daughter and granddaughter to be well taken care of," Queen Annora smiled as Helena Vella walked up.

"The proclamation you requested, Queen Annora," Helena announced as she handed Queen Annora an official piece of paper. "All it requires is your signature."

"What proclamation, Mother?" Miss Elodie asked, curious.

"An official proclamation that publicly announces your new status, and Lisa's new status," Queen Annora answered.

At that moment, a woman in her forties entered the room. The woman was Princess Fidelia, the eldest daughter of Queen Annora.

"Princess Fidelia," Miss Elodie and Lisa acknowledged as they rose.

"We can dispense with the formalities," Fidelia smiled as she motioned Miss Elodie and Lisa to sit. "We're family now. Just call me Fidelia. I'm very happy to have not only have a sister but a niece as well. I look forward to getting to know you better."

"And there's no better way than over a fine lunch," Queen Annora happily pointed out as she handed the signed proclamation to Helena.

"I'll get this doppler duplicated, then distributed to all kingdoms, my Queen," Helena announced as she left.

"Let's get started with lunch, shall we?" Queen Annora suggested as the servants started serving lunch.

Two hours later in Cinnibar

At Queen Scarlett's palace in Cinnibar, Scarlett was relaxing in her study when Colette (Scarlett's royal steward) walked in.

"Sorry to disturb you, Scarlett," Colette apologized. "This just arrived from Queen Annora's palace. It is an official proclamation."

"Queen Annora rarity issues proclamations," Scarlett remarked as she took the proclamation from Colette. "What is this about?"

"You've best read it yourself, Scarlett," Colette suggested. "And it's a good thing you're sitting down."

"Now you have my interest," Scarlett said as she read the proclamation, before turning white as a sheet. "My God! Miss Elodie and Lisa are now princesses."

"An amazing turn of events," Colette responded.

"Indeed," Scarlett agreed. "Please send my congratulations to the two of them, and send an appropriate gift for each of them."

"I'll take care of that immediately," Colette responded as she left Scarlett's study.

At that same moment at Enchancia Castle

In the sitting room of Enchancia Castle, the Enchancian royal family was gathered.

"I'm bowled over, that's what I am," nineteen-year-old James remarked.

"Miss Elodie and Lisa are now witch royalty," nineteen-year-old Amber smiled.

"Who would have thought," eighteen-year-old Sofia remarked. "Miss Elodie has taught royals for many years. Now she's a royal, along with Lisa."

"It's an important step in their lives," eighteen-year-old Lucinda pointed out. "In my capacity as First Witch of Enchancia, I should pick out an appropriate gift for each of them."

"That's a wonderful idea, Lucinda," Queen Miranda happily responded.

"And while you're doing that, I'll send Baileywick to pick out an appropriate gift for each on behalf of all of us in the royal family," King Roland announced.

"Sire," Baileywick said to King Roland. "I have a carriage waiting. I can take Princess Lucinda with me, and we can get our respective gifts together."

"That's an excellent idea, Baileywick," King Roland agreed. "I'll see the two of you when you get back."

As Baileywick and Lucinda walked out of the sitting room, they talked among themselves.

"I'm thinking that I will visit the royal jeweler and have a tiara made for each of them," Baileywick announced to Lucinda. "Since they live here in Enchancia, such a gift should come from the Enchancian royal family."

"That sounds good, Baileywick," Lucinda agreed. "Meanwhile, I'll go to Greythorn's. They carry some high-end magical merchandise that would be appropriate for two new princesses."

"It looks like each of us has a plan then, Princess," Baileywick smiled at Lucinda.

Meanwhile, in the skies above Enchancia

Genevieve and Leandra were traveling in a flying carriage provided to them by King Roland. They were on their way to the library in Minas Tirith in search of the Sword of Arccod. Minas Tirith, along with the library there, dated back to the ancient times of Middle Earth. If there was any information to be had on where the Sword of Arccod might be, the library of Minas Tirith was the best place to start.

With Genevieve and Leandra was eighteen-year-old Indigo who had volunteered to be their guide in this new world the two were in.

"We appreciate you being our guide," Genevieve said to Indigo, grateful.

"No problem," Indigo smiled. "It gives me a chance to revisit Minas Tirith."

"So, you've been there before?" Leandra asked.

"A year ago," Indigo answered. "My parents are professors at Hexley Hall, our local institute of magical learning. They needed to find some historical information, and they brought me along. Minas Tirith is a grand place. I think you'll like it."

At that moment, the man flying the carriage turned toward Indigo. "Miss Indigo, there's a storm ahead. It's blocking our way to the Weston portal."

"Portal?" Genevieve wanted to know, curious.

"We have a series of sky portals across the globe," Indigo answered as she brought out a map. "They occur naturally, and we use them to travel great distances in the blink of an eye."

"Amazing," Leandra said in awe.

"Driver," Indigo started. "Head for the Chou portal. We can use that to get to the Roux portal, and that will take us close to Minas Tirith. It will be a longer trip, but it will get us away from the storm ahead."

"Sounds good, Miss Indigo," the driver agreed as he turned the carriage toward the Kingdom of Weiling.

In a little while, the flying carriage reached an area where there was a glimmering blob in the sky.

"I take it that's the sky portal?" Genevieve asked, curious.

"Yes," Indigo confirmed. "You might want to hang on. One's first time through a sky portal can be ... intense."

As Genevieve and Leandra hanged on, the flying carriage entered the Chou portal. In the blink of an eye, the sky was gone and replaced with a grayish vortex. The flying carriage and its flying horses suddenly started traveling at a super-fast speed.

"Whoo-hoo!" Indigo exclaimed in glee. "You should try this on a broom."

Genevieve and Leandra hung on as the flying carriage and its horses went faster and faster. In a few moments, the flying carriage and its horses zipped through the other end of the vortex and entered the sky once again. Genevieve and Leandra looked down below the carriage to see a huge city below them.

"That's the capital city of Hasfeld," Indigo explained. "Hasfeld is a kingdom devoted to tourism - theaters, museums, gambling, you name it."

"Miss Indigo," the driver called out. "We'll reach the Roux portal in about ten minutes."

"Very good," Indigo acknowledged.

In about ten minutes, the flying carriage reached the Roux portal and flew inside. The flying carriage and its flying horses raced through the portal and emerged over a land that was untouched by people.

"We should reach Minas Tirith in about twenty minutes," the driver called out to Indigo, Genevieve, and Leandra.

In a short while, the flying carriage approached Minas Tirith, which was an ancient huge circular multi-level city. The carriage landed and then entered through the city's main gate. Indigo, Genevieve, and Leandra stepped off of the carriage and walked to the library in Minas Tirith. A librarian directed the three to a section of the library that contained books and records connected to historical weapons. The three then started going through various books and records.

"Here's something called Blackfyre," Indigo said as she went through a book. "It's a sword, but nothing like the Sword of Arccod you described."

"Gimli's Ax, Strider's Sword," Genevieve remarked as she read a book. "But nothing so far about the Sword of Arccod."

"Excalibur," Indigo read out loud. "Not your Sword of Arccod, but still a powerful sword in its own right."

"My Lady," Leandra announced to Genevieve as she read a written report in the library. "Here is a mention of an unknown sword that perfectly matches the Sword of Arccod."

Leandra handed the written report to Genevieve who read it aloud. "This report is from fourteen years ago. The unknown sword was said to be in the custody of a man who was overheard saying he represented something called W10. Shortly afterward, the man and the sword disappeared, never to be seen again."

"Did you say W10?" Indigo asked.

"Yes," Genevieve confirmed. "Why?"

"I'm an agent with Crimson Force," Indigo revealed. "A while ago, all Crimson Force agents living in Enchancia were automatically given duel membership in Enchancian Intelligence. About a year ago, when I was doing work for Enchancian Intelligence, I came across a reference to a W10. When I asked about it, I was told it was above my security clearance, and not to ask about it again."

"Well then," Genevieve said as she gently stroked her chin. "It looks like our next course of action is to return to Enchancia and make some discreet inquiries about this W10."

Early that evening

At Scarlett's palace in Cinnibar, Victor Delgado, along with Scarlett and Faith, stood waiting for a flying carriage to arrive. In a few minutes, the flying carriage landed in the courtyard of the palace. A young woman stepped off of the carriage. The woman was Rita Fernandez Iñarritu (the new identity of Carla Delgado). Rita had been on the Island of Themyscira undergoing warrior training. Rita found herself with an extended stay on the island when the illness struck the Ever Realm. Now that a cure for the illness had been discovered, Rita was free to return to Cinnibar.

"Rita!" Victor exclaimed with joy as he raced over to Rita and hugged her. "I've missed you."

"And I've missed you, Papa," Rita smiled as she returned the hug.

"It's good to see you, Rita," Scarlett said as she walked over with Faith. "I take it your training went well?"

"Yes, it did, Scarlett," Rita reported. "I even got in some additional training thanks to my extended stay on Themyscira."

"Excellent!" Scarlett exclaimed in approval. "We can discuss it at tonight's celebration supper in your honor."

"Chef is making all your favorites, Rita," Faith smiled.

"You all shouldn't have gone to all that trouble," Rita said, a little embarrassed at the attention she was receiving.

"And why not?" Scarlett asked in a playful manner. "A family member has returned home. If that isn't cause for celebration, I don't know what is."

Everybody walked into the palace having a pleasant conversation. Meanwhile, in Enchancia, Miss Elodie and Lisa were about to return to their home in Dunwiddie via a flying carriage. As they landed near their house, Miss Elodie and Lisa noticed a crowd gathered in front of their house.

"They know already?!" Miss Elodie exclaimed, taken off guard.

"I guess news travels fast," Lisa theorized.

As the carriage pulled up to the house, everybody gathered started clapping and cheering. As Miss Elodie and Lisa stepped off of the carriage, a man approached from the crowd. The man was Mayor Napier of Dunwiddie.

"Welcome home Princess Gloriana, Princess Lisa," Mayor Napier greeted as he bowed.

"I don't suppose we could dispense with the titles?" Miss Elodie asked in a half-nervous way.

"It's our way of honoring you," Mrs. Hanshaw said in a reassuring voice as she walked up. "We're all very happy for the two of you."

"Thank you, Helen," Miss Elodie acknowledged, grateful.

"You should know some royal gifts have already arrived for the two of you," Mrs. Hanshaw announced.

"Royal gifts?" Miss Elodie asked, taken off guard.

"From various kingdoms," Mayor Napier explained. "There are also two official gifts from Princess Lucinda in her capacity as First Witch of Enchancia. And King Roland and the royal family are having two tiaras made, one for each of you."

"Oh my!" Miss Elodie said as she almost fainted, with Lisa catching her just in time.

"The gifts are at the Dunwiddie Community Center," Mrs. Hanshaw said to Miss Elodie and Lisa. "We've put together a celebration supper in your honor at the center. Please tell us you'll attend."

"Yes, we'll attend," Miss Elodie accepted. "Thank you."

At that moment, Miss Flora, Miss Fauna, and Miss Merryweather flew up.

"Congratulations on your titles, Princess Gloriana, Princess Lisa," Miss Flora greeted.

"We always knew the two of you would go far," Miss Fauna smiled.

"And we have a little something for Princess Lisa," Miss Merryweather announced as she handed Lisa an envelope.

"What is it, Lisa?" Miss Elodie asked as Lisa opened the envelope.

"I can't believe it," Lisa said in awe as she read the letter that was in the envelope. "This is an official invitation to start attending Royal Prep this September."

"We know your magical studies at Hexley Hall are important to you," Miss Flora explained to Lisa. "We were thinking you could go part-time to Hexley Hall, and part-time to Royal Prep."

"The best of both worlds as it were," Miss Fauna happily added.

"We'd really love to have you at Royal Prep," Miss Merryweather said in a reassuring voice as Lisa looked to Miss Elodie for guidance.

"This is the opportunity of a lifetime," Miss Elodie smiled at Lisa. "Magical training and royal training. This is more than I could have ever dreamed for you."

"Then I accept your invitation," Lisa happily said to Miss Flora, Miss Fauna, and Miss Merryweather.

"If everybody will follow me, we'll get started with our celebration supper at the community center," Mayor Napier called out.

In a few minutes, everybody arrived at the Dunwiddie Community Center where a celebration supper was waiting. As everybody walked in, royal gifts were displayed on a large table. The gifts were from neighboring kingdoms and included items such as jewelry, fine antiques, and upscale personal items. Also standing against the table were two brand new SkyCruise 1110 flying brooms.

"These are the latest model!" Lisa exclaimed in awe.

"They are a gift from Princess Lucinda," Mrs. Hanshaw explained.

"Did I hear somebody say my name?" a female's voice came from behind them. Miss Elodie, Lisa, and Mrs. Hanshaw turned around to see eighteen-year-old Princess Lucinda standing there, smiling.

"Princess Lucinda," Miss Elodie smiled back. "Thank you so much for the new brooms. But I'm sure they were quite expensive."

"You and Lisa are so deserving of new brooms," Lucinda happily acknowledged. "And please just call me Lucinda. You're royalty now."

"As you wish, Princess ... I mean, Lucinda," Miss Elodie responded.

"Just one more thing," Lucinda announced to Miss Elodie. "My father and the royal family want to hold an official ceremony for you and Lisa. We'll be deciding the final date soon."

"Oh, my!" Miss Elodie said, taken off guard. "So much has happened today. The fact that Lisa and I are now princesses is still sinking in."

"I know you're quite capable of settling into your new roles," Lucinda said in an encouraging voice. "Just be yourselves, and everything will work out fine."

"The celebration supper is being served," Mayor Napier announced. "If everybody will take a seat, we'll begin."

Lucinda, Miss Elodie, and Lisa sat down at one of the tables as the celebration supper began. There was a variety of delicious food to choose from. For dessert, there was carrot cake which was one of Miss Elodie's and Lisa's favorite cakes. It was an evening filled with happy memories. Everything was right with the world.

(End of Chapter 6)

* 2 cups (240 grams) powdered sugar

* 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions

To make the carrot cake:

Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C). Spray two 9-inch round cake pans well with non stick cooking spray (you can also line the bottom of each pan with parchment paper for easier removal) and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt until well combined. Set aside.

In a separate large mixing bowl, whisk together the oil, eggs, brown sugar, granulated sugar, applesauce, and vanilla extract until fully combined. Add the grated carrots into the wet ingredients and mix until well combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix with a whisk or rubber spatula until just combined, making sure not to over mix the batter.

Pour the cake batter evenly between both prepared cake pans. Bake at 350°F for 30-35 minutes or until the tops of the cakes are set and a toothpick inserted into the center of each one comes out clean. Remove from the oven, transfer to a wire rack, and allow to cool in the pans for about 20-25 minutes. Once the cakes have cooled, remove from the pans and return the cakes to the wire rack to finish cooling.

To make the cream cheese frosting:

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, or in a large mixing bowl using a hand-held mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the butter and mix for about 30 seconds-1 minute until well combined and smooth. Add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract and continue mixing until fully combined, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.

To assemble the cake:

Level the tops of each cake with a knife or cake leveler. Place one of the cakes on a cake stand, top with a little over 1/2 cup of the frosting, and smooth it out into one even layer. Place the other cake on top and use the remaining frosting to frost the top and sides of the cake. Top with pecans or other toppings of choice if desired.

Notes:

Applesauce: you may replace the applesauce with 1/2 cup (120 grams) of sour cream or plain Greek yogurt.

To make a 9x13 cake: spray a 9x13 pan with nonstick cooking spray and pour the batter into the pan. Bake at 350°F (177°C) for 35-45 minutes.

Author's notes

Blackfyre is from "Game of Thrones".

Doppler duplicated is based on the spell Doppler Duplicato from the "Sofia the First" episode "Sofia the Second".

Excalibur is from the legend of King Arthur.

Faith is an earlier version of Faith seen in the "Torchwood" episodes "Dead Man Walking" and "Fragments".

For more about how Lisa's birth parents died, see Chapter 21 of my story "Dorrie: Book Two".

Genevieve and Leandra are original characters created by Brigade701 and are used in this story with the permission of Brigade701.

Gimli's Ax, Minas Tirith, and Strider's Sword are from "The Lord of the Rings".

Gloriana is the first name for Miss Elodie that Jolly Roger Brat came up with for use in Jolly Roger Brat's stories as well as in my stories.

Having Genevieve, Leandra, and Indigo mention mythical swords was the idea of Brigade701.

Hikari is an alternate universe version of Kari from "Digimon: Digital Monsters". Having Hikari appear in this story was the idea of Shaddowridder221. I decided to use Kari's original Japanese name of Hikari to avoid confusion with Princess Kari from "Sofia the First".

King Joaquin, Rita (A.K.A. Carla Delgado), Shuriki, and Victor Delgado are from "Elena of Avalor".

Lydia and Eezeyal are from GradGirl2010's stories "My Sister's Keeper", "My Sister's Teacher", and "My Sister's Acceptance", and are used in my stories with the permission of GradGirl2010. Readers of my stories will remember that Lydia (in my stories) is Queen of the Kingdom of Lacorinth (being married to King Graham of Lacorinth), and is also the royal sorceress of Lacorinth.

Tardis, The Doctor, and Time Lord are from "Doctor Who".

The Island of Themyscira (pronounced Them-mes-skera) is an island nation in the DC Comics universe, and place of origin to its princess, Diana (better known as Wonder Woman). Themyscira is also known as Paradise Island.

The Kingdom of Avalor is from "Elena of Avalor".

The Kingdom of Cariza is from "Elena of Avalor".

The Kingdom of Cinnibar is a kingdom created by Jake H Voronkov and is used in my stories with permission from Jake H Voronkov.

The Scarlett Warrior (A.K.A. Scarlett) (A.K.A. Queen Scarlett) (A.K.A. Queen Scarlett Katherine Felchenerow) is a character created by Jake H Voronkov and is used in my stories with permission from Jake H Voronkov. Meanwhile, the character of Colette (A.K.A. Lady Colette Cosmarune) is a character that I and Jake H Voronkov created and is based on Bayonetta from the video game "Bayonetta" (please note that Colette, and Madam Collette of Enchancia Castle, are two different characters who are not related in any way, shape, or form).

The scene with Corbett and King Joaquin was based on a request from Jolly Roger Brat who wanted to see if Corbett (as a clone) suffered from an eye problem as Candice did.

The scene with Rita returning from the Island of Themyscira was based on a request from Jolly Roger Brat who wanted to see what Rita was up to.

The scene with Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby finding out about Dorrie and Candice having a Tardis is in preparation for a future plot suggested by Jake H Voronkov.

W10 is a reference to Warehouse Ten. Warehouse Ten is from my stories "Dorrie", "Dorrie: Book Two", "Once Upon a Time in Enchancia", "Changes", and "Enchancia Castle". It is a warehouse housing paranormal artifacts that existed before the current Warehouse 13 (as seen in the TV series "Warehouse 13").
