Finding Our Future ch6

After running out of the gym, Haley's mind was all over the place. She drove around and ended up at the beach. She sat in her car just watching the waves of the ocean crash about.

"Why do you have to overthink everything? It was a sweet moment and you ruined it. He's going to think you're such a baby! Do I see him as more than a friend, and is he worth the risk? Haley thought to herself

Haley then got a text bringing her out of her thoughts, "I'm sorry if I confused you. I don't regret it."

"Great, now I don't know what he wants me to think" she thought to herself.

Haley sat in her car and called the one person she knew would be able to give her some advice.

"Hi Hales, how was it? I bet it was great. Are you dating now?"

"Brooke! Calm down. No we aren't dating. It was really strange." She sighed in frustration.

"What do you mean by strange?"

"Well he wanted me to meet him at the school gym where he brought me coffee. He talked about his feelings for me."

"That's sounds good, what makes it strange?" She questioned to her

"I told him I wasn't ready to rush into anything. That we could be friends and see how our friendship grows first."

"Okay, so what did he say?"

"He respected my choice."

"So what makes things strange?"

"He got me shooting hoops and it felt like it was more of a boyfriend/girlfriend thing with how he was helping me."

"Right, so are you having feelings toward him?"

"Yeah, but it gets worse"

"How?"

"He kissed me and I kind of moaned a little, then I ran away leaving him behind."

"Oh right. Did he come after you?"

"Yes, but I snapped and told him I needed space. So I left, drove to the beach and called you."

"Okay have you heard from him?"

"Yes, he texted to say sorry and said he didn't regret it."

"Do you regret it?" She questioned to her

"Honestly no. If I'm being truthful I want to do it again." She spoke being truthful with herself.

"Hales honey. I think it's maybe time you live a little and take a chance."

"I don't know. Now I have to go to this party which he is going to be at."

"Just go and act normal. If he brings it up just let him know you overreacted and were overwhelmed by his actions."

"Thanks Brooke. I knew I could rely on you for good advice."

"No problem. Good luck at the party."

Haley took a few more minutes getting herself together before heading over to Quinn's house for the party.

"Great, you're finally here!" Quinn spoke coming over to embrace her sister in a tight hug as she walked into the kitchen"

"Quinn, I'm not that late. You know I don't like to be the first person here either," she replied after they broke away from the hug.

"I know, Nathan's been asking since he arrived if you were still coming?" she explained excitedly to her.
"Oh right," she spoke feeling her stomach drop as she thought back to this morning"

"Hales! You sure everything is okay between you two? I hope I didn't cross the line by having you two share the guest room? She questioned a little worried about them."

"Everything is fine, you didn't ruin anything. Now where do you want me to take this?" She spoke lifting up a jug of punch.

"Just outside to the table please."

Xxx

"Here let me help you with that," a guy spoke taking the heavy jug from her setting it on the table.

"Thank you," she spoke smiling at him.

"You're welcome, Haley," replied giving away that he knew her name.

"Umm not to sound rude but how do you know my name?" She asked a little worried about what his answer was going to be.

"Oh maybe I should have introduced myself as Mr Wilson," he spoke still not giving too much away.

Haley stood and studied him for a few minutes. "Oh Grant Wilson, you showed me around the high school when I was having my interview the other week". She spoke connecting the dots.

"You guessed right! So how was NYC, that's where you were going, right?" He spoke, trying to remember the conversation.

Haley was surprised that he remembered that. She smiled at him, before replying that she had a lovely time with her friend. "Thanks for asking."

Nathan was sitting across the garden watching Haley and Grant engrossed in a conversation, as he eagerly drank his beer.

"You know you did the right thing by letting her go back then. Now I think you need to rethink that decision if you want her in your future," Quinn spoke coming up beside him.

"Well I made it clear this morning how I felt, and that all just blew up in my face." He confessed watching her.

"You mean you told her you love her?" Quinn asked excitedly

"Not exactly! I made it clear that I have feelings for her though" he softly replied

"She hasn't said anything to me about it yet. I know my sister, trust me. I know she has deep feelings for you too." She spoke as she watched Haley talk with Grant.

"Well even if she does she made it clear that she doesn't want to act on them."

"Nate, to be brutally honest with you, I think she is just scared."

"Scared of what?" He asked nervously.

"Not being enough," she answered simply.

"Oh okay," he replied starting to understand Haley so much more in that moment.
