"I remember!" Sora and Koga said in unison, startling the rest of the group. The twins looked at each other surprised.
"Wait, you remember too?" Koga asked.
"Yeah, there was another girl."
"Another girl? Where?" Goofy asked looking around.
"No, no, I mean on the islands where we used to live!" Sora said. Koga frowned slightly, noticing that he forgot to say their homeworld's name. "Besides me, Koga, Kairi and Riku, there was another girl we were friends with. The four of us played together all the time."
"Seems to me that's the first time you've mentioned her." Jiminy said.
"I guess we've forgot about her." Koga said looking down sadly. "I only just remembered her. I think... she went away when we were little."
"What made you remember her now?" Donald asked.
Sora shook his head. "I don't know but it's been coming back piece by piece as we go through the castle."
"Gawrsh, do you know her name?"
"No, I can't remember." Sora said. Koga shook his head in agreement.
"What do you remember about her?"
Sora crossed his arms. "Well um... She was quiet and always drawing."
"Yeah, when we'd go to the beach, she'd draw a picture instead of swimming. She'd even draw us too, she was really good. I remember us fighting Riku over who she'd draw next."
"You mean me and Riku fought while you sat next to her and watched." Sora teased.
Koga rolled his eyes. "Yeah sure. Anyway she vanished one day suddenly. I think the adults knew the reason but they never told us. Maybe they tried to explain it but I don't think we understood." He sighed. "I remember us crying after she was gone."
"Hmm. I think it's strange that Sora and Koga are losing their memories but are getting forgotten ones." Jiminy said. "It seems that if we go farther into the castle, the more memories we lose, the more they will remember.
"Just like the guy in the black coat said." Sora mentioned.
"To find is to lose and to lose is to find. Wow, it's actually starting to make sense now." Koga said chuckling. 'But why aren't the rest of you getting any old memories in return?'
"What's happening to Sora and Koga?" Lexaeus asked. Zexion turned to his fellow member.
"Namine's powers are being used to shuffle his memories as we speak. Marluxia may well succeed in getting his puppets." He scratched his chin. "The two would be a valuable asset to the Organization, if their Nobodies are anything to go by. But Marluxia's and Larxene's actions they leave me quite uneasy."
Lexaeus frowned crossing his arms. "And then there is Axel. Who knows what that one is thinking."
"Vexen should take care of this. After his encounter with Riku his replica is soon to be completed."
"But Vexen despises Marluxia. Think of the mess it would make."
Zexion smirked. "So we must tell him. Isn't it better that Vexen clean up the mess than leave it to us?
Axel and Larxene were watching the group progress from their conference room.
"It looks like things are going according to plan." Larxene said. "Guess it's my turn to harass those brats."
Axel nodded handing her some cards. "Don't break them."
"Relax, I'm just going to mess with them before I give them the cards. I'm not going to break them."
The redhead narrowed his eyes. "Don't forget. Sora and Koga are the key. We need them if we're going to take over the Organiza-" Larxene pressed a finger to his lip shushing him.
She gave a sinister grin as she stared him down. "I knew that you are in on it too. But keep your mouth shut until the time is right. Wouldn't want Vexen or Zexion to know before we're ready." With that she vanished into a portal.
Axel let out a sly grin. "You would have been wise to have done the same Larxene. Thanks for confirming my suspicion."
Out of all the things Riku saw in this castle, this is the strangest of them all. He just made it to the next floor when he came across someone who looks exactly like him. From his clothes, his face, his height, it's a flawless reflection of himself.
"What are you supposed to be?" Riku demanded.
The copy of Riku smiled. "Surprised? I guess you should be. After all, I look just like you." He eyed the original Riku down. "I'll tell you what I am. I'm an exact replica of you that Vexen made from your data."
Riku narrowed his eyes. "So you're just a fake me?"
Riku Replica's face exploded into one of rage. "Not a fake! I don't care if you're real! You're not better! We share the same body and the same talents. But there is one easy way to tell us apart though. Unlike you, I fear nothing!"
"Are you calling me a coward?!" Riku growled.
"You're afraid of the dark! The darkness inside you still frightens you, no matter what you say. But I'm different. I embrace the darkness. I can make it do whatever I want!" Darkness covered the Replica's body and it gave him the same dark outfit that Riku had when he was controlled by Ansem. He smirked and summoned his own version of Soul Eater, Riku summoned his own knowing what was about to happen. "So I can use it to wipe the floor with you."
The group of heroes made it to the 6th floor where a female Organization member was waiting, Larxene. She grinned devilishly at them. They got into a battle stance expecting a fight.
"You work with Axel?" Donald asked.
"Too clever. I'm Larxene. So... are you enjoying your stay at the castle? I bet it's nice to peel away all the worthless memories and awaken the true memories that lie deep in your Heart." She giggled. "Although it seems that you're still forgetting the most important thing here. When that poor girl hears that you've forgotten her name, why it'll just... it'll break her Heart."
The twins stiffened. "Poor girl...?" Koga questioned. "It can't be..."
"The girl from our memories, you know her?" Sora asked excited. "Is she here?"
"Yes she is. You see, the bad guys are holding her captive somewhere deep inside the castle. And with you two as the heroes, it's up to you to go save her." Koga and Sora looked at each other in shock, letting their guard down by accident. "Although..." The two did not have time to react as Larxene lunged forward super fast and tried to strike them with her fingers outstretched. Koga narrowly avoided it but Sora got hit and knocked back. In less then a second Larxene kicked Koga in the chest knocking him into Donald and Goofy. "I'm a bad guy too, you'll have to get through me."
Sora groaned as he stood up while Donald and Goofy helped him up. But they quickly noticed something fell out of them when they got knocked back. Near Sora was half of a yellow star shaped trinket with the letter 'S' engraved on it, and next to Koga was what looked like the other half with the letter 'K'.
"What's that?" Sora asked.
"When did we get this?" Koga questioned. He tried to think back to when he got something like that but his memories are not recalling anything yet.
"What a shame. You two have been wearing it all this time and forgot?" She eyed them down. "No... not possible. The memory has to be engraved somewhere deep inside your Hearts. Sora, Koga, think carefully now. Who gave this to you?"
Goofy and Donald looked to their friends concerned. They seemed to be deep in thought trying to figure out the answer.
'K...'
'...'
'N...'
'Na...'
"N-Na... Na..." Sora struggled to remember but the memory felt like it was just out of reach.
'Nam...'
'Nami..'
"Nam... N-N-Nami..." Koga clutched his head. He tries to fight the haze that blocking his memories.
"Sora... Koga... you're getting it now. Release the memory from within your Hearts!" She said excited.
'Namin.'
'Namine'
"Namine!" Sora and Koga shouted in unison. At the mention of her name they felt a spark in their brains brining all the memories to them. The girl that they played together. Her drawings, her smile, all the good times they had together with that shy blonde girl.
Larxene smirked. "Well it's about time. That's right, Namine. She's the one who gave you both that tacky little good luck charm." She picked both charms up and humorously put them together. "Not that you even bothered to remember. No surprise, seeing as you also couldn't remember her name." She said with a mocking sob voice. "Talk about Heartless! I can't believe you would be so cruel." She made that devilish grin again holding the charms tightly. "It'd serve you right if I decided to smash these pieces of junk."
The brothers saw red as they charged forward in rage.
"Let go!" Koga roared firing a shot at her wrist. The sting made her let go and back away as Sora ran in and picked up the two halves of the charms, handing Koga's half to him.
"Namine gave us this. And we won't let you destroy it!" Sora said.
Larxene rubbed her wrist as she narrowed her eyes at them. "Oh, it's important to you?" Suddenly electric sparks crackled across her body as eight razor sharp knives appeared between her fingers.
"Ten seconds ago you didn't even know what it was!"
Riku parried a helm splitter from Riku Replica as the two clashed blades. Riku used the other's momentum against them as he twisted himself and jammed his elbow into the other's face.
The two were fighting for awhile and it seemed that the original Riku had the upper hand. While Riku Replica fought with dark powers he attacked too recklessly with little defense.
The Replica jumped back and warped behind him with a dark dash attack. Riku rolled forward and as his feet were in the air he kicked the Replica in the face making him lose his focus and crash into a wall.
Riku smirked at the Replica of him. "Hey, fake!" He yelled out. "I thought I heard you say you were gonna wipe the floor with me."
The replica turned towards him, his eyes burned with hate, much like the original Riku was in the past. "Don't forget, I'm still new. I'll get stronger and stronger. So you better watch yourself, the next time we fight, you're finished!" He said.
"Then why don't we get this over with now!" Riku shouted running at the Replica and tried to do an helm splitter himself only for the Replica to create a dark barrier around him that counted his attack with an explosion that knocked the boy back.
The fake laughed. "It's nice having darkness on my side." He said standing up. "You are SO missing out. How could you be scared of something that can be so thrilling?"
"Shut up!" Riku growled. "The darkness corrupted me, it forced me to hurt my friends."
"You mean Sora and Koga?" Riku Replica scoffed. "Last time I checked you turned them aside even before you used the darkness. So if you meet them again what do you expect, for things to go back to the way it was? Like a coward all you can do is run from your problems. " He said before vanishing into a portal.
Riku hung his head. His fists shook as he tried to suppress the emotions bubbling up inside.
"I'm... not a coward."
The Heroes' opponent was a bit on the fast side. They tried to dodge her attacks but she kept closing the distance between them slashing with her knives. But despite her slashes none of them seemed to be intentionally fatal. They were covered in cuts and bruises. Sure Donald can heal them but they still stung. They were starting to get exhausted, Donald and Goofy especially. They may not have their full power back but Koga and Sora were very determined to keep fighting.
Larxene threw a lightning spell at Sora who barely dodged it. The electric woman charged towards him and was about to jab at him but Koga intercepted with his leg and countered with a haymaker kick to the face.
She rubbed her face smirking at the boy who was seething in rage.
"Hmph. You two are not as bad as I thought. You really are a hero. A Heartless hero for hitting a woman." She joked.
"Look who's talking, picking on a couple of kids!" Koga growled.
"And no one asked you!" Sora added running in and slashing at her. Larxene jumped back and threw her knives at the two boys. They deflected it and charged towards her together.
Donald and Goofy looked at the boys with concern, they weren't acting like they normally would. They never fought with such anger and hate.
"Oh, does it hurt because it's the truth? What a bunch of babies. Well then, if you're going to be a baby then here you go." She said tossing them a bunch of cards. Koga caught them, they looked to be world cards. "It's a bunch more cards to take you higher up. You still got a long way to go and without any of those you'd be stuck here. So your welcome. Ta ta!" She said waving as a portal opened behind her.
"Wait, Larxene!" Sora shouted running towards her.
"Stop, come back!" Koga shouted running faster than his brother.
"Lightning!" She shouted, launching a lighting spell in front of them, missing entirely but the impact made a smoke screen for her to escape into. The two boys looked around frantically shooting and slashing at nothing through the smoke.
"Where are you? Don't you dare hide from me! Show yourself!"
"You better come out Larxene! Tell us where Namine is or else!"
Jiminy cried out as Sora's frantic movement was shaking him off of the boy. He tried to hold on to the boy's hood as it took him for a wild ride. "Sora, Koga, calm down! She's not coming back!"
"Koga relax!" Donald shouting as Koga's shots were going in every direction, even towards the two.
Eventually the twins lost their energy as they fell back on the floor next to each other trying to catch their breath.
Koga leaned his head towards his brother. "Sora, are you okay?"
"I hate this." Sora murmured frustrated. "Why do we need someone like her to bring back Namine's memory?"
Koga said nothing as he wrapped an arm around his brother and together they got back on their feet.
"That's not important. What's important now is that we find Namine."
Sora's eyes widened. "That's right, she's still here somewhere! But where?"
"I think I have an idea." Koga said holding up the world cards.
Larxene appeared back to where Axel was, stretching her sore limbs.
"Whew... Throwing out that battle wore me out." She said.
"Really?" Axel asked arching an eyebrow. "It looked to me like you weren't giving it your all."
She snapped her head at the fiery redhead infuriated. "How dare you! You don't appreciate the nuances of-"
"An ungainly effort." Vexen said, startling Larxene as she didn't see him come in. "How could you be humbled by someone of such limited significance? You shame the Organization."
Axel jumped in before Larxene did something she would regret. "How can we help you Vexen? You usually hang out downstairs with Zexion."
"I came to lend you a hand. You obviously believe that Sora and Koga have potential, but I remain unconvinced they are truly worth such coddling. I think an experiment would show if they are really of some value to us."
Larxene scoffed rolling her eyes. "Well here we go again. This is just an excuse so you can carry out your little experiments, that's all."
"I'm a scientist first and foremost. Experiments are what I do, yes."
"Whatever, you can do what you want." Axel said. "But you know, I think Sora is just a cover for testing your valet."
Vexen put an hand to his chest, looking offended. "Valet? He's the product of pure research."
"What he actually is is a toy." Larxene quipped.
"Anyway, since you came all this way, you're gonna need this." Axel said handing the scientist a world card, one of a familiar island world. "A humble gift to my elder. I hope you use it to put on a very good show for us." His head turned towards Riku Replica who decided to join them. "After all, that card holds the memories of Sora, Koga, and Riku's home.
"It's just a card. What good is that?" The replica asked.
"With a little help from Namine, you'll have all the real Riku's memories." Larxene said, making a sadistic smile. "Maybe we can get her to make you forget you're nothing but a fake. In other words, we'll remake your 'Heart' so you can be exactly the same as the real Riku, 'kay?"
Riku gasped, shocked that not only are they planning this but that they can say it so casually to his face. "You want to remake my Heart?! The real Riku is a wimp who's afraid of the dark! What do I want with the Heart of a loser?"
The other's ignore his outcry as they continued talking.
"Any objections Vexen? After all, you do want to test Sora, don't you?" Larxene asked.
Vexen shook his head. "It must be done."
"How can you!" Riku Replica exclaimed. "You're betraying me!?"
"Like I told you before, I would make good use of you." Vexen said smirking.
"No!" The replica said, panic becoming very visible. He doesn't know if he can take them all on at once but he is not going down without a fight.
"Relax kiddo." Larxene said. "I don't think it's going to hurt... that much."
"I'll hurt you!" He roared as he summoned his sword and and charged at the woman. She grabbed him by the throat and tossed him hard against the wall at lightning speed. She cackled as she watched Riku Replica writhe in pain as electricity coursed through his body.
"Stupid little toy. Thinking that you can defeat me? Where would you ever get a thought like that?" She began advancing towards him as the replica struggled to back away. "But look at the bright side. Along with everything else in your head, Namine will erase the memory of me knocking you flat. Isn't that right?"
There, watching in horror, on the other side of the room was a girl with blonde hair and a white dress clutching her drawing notebook tightly. Namine, said nothing, knowing that she can't stop what's about to happen.
"Instead, she will implant the loveliest little memories you could ever hope for. It's no big deal that they're all lies..."
"No..." Riku moaned in pain as he bumped against the wall. Larxene lingered over him smiling with sadistic intent. "No, please don't do this! NOOOOO!"
Well that got dark at the end...
HAVE FUN!
