Flight
Excitement and nerves coursed through six-year-old Fudge Rossi-Topolino's body as the plane picked up speed on the runway. She had a window seat and could see that they were being lifted up off the ground!
"We're in the air!" she exclaimed excitedly as the ground became smaller and smaller.
Luigi smiled. "Say goodbye to America!" he told her.
"Goodbye, America!" Fudge cried, waving out the window. "Goodbye, goodbye!"
Even though neither one of them enjoyed flying very much (or at all, for that matter), Guido and Luigi were both very excited. After many years of hoping and wishing, they were finally returning to their beloved Italy. Even better, their daughter was coming with them! They had told her many, many stories about what a wonderful country Italy was. They couldn't wait for her to see their home, their family and the endless treasures Italy had to offer.
All they had to do was survive one long, terrifying flight.
Fudge didn't seem scared in the slightest. She'd never been on a plane before, so it was all so new and exciting for her. Plus, if everything her dads told her was true, then Italy was going to be awesome!
The six-year-old watched everything on the ground till cars looked like children's toys. Finally, the United States disappeared and all that could be seen were endless white clouds.
Bored with looking out the window, Fudge turned to her dads. "Are we there yet?"
