The next day I am alone in the house for the majority of the day. Abby and Tauri are at work at Quil went for patrol two hours ago. Now it's late afternoon and I am sitting on the couch with my computer skyping with my family.

"How are you doing honey?" Mom asks.

"Good! It's been a lot, I have been meeting a lot of new people"

"That's good! And they have all been nice to you?"

I nod.

My brother shows me his new room and my heart aches upon seeing him. I do miss them.

Because of the time difference between us they are just about to go to bed so we hang up.

I am watching Netflix on my computer in my lap and I am nearly falling asleep when I hear someone banging on the door. I nearly jump out of fright and then I get up.

"Stephanie? Open the door now!" I hear someone screaming. I know the voice. It´s Jacob. I bit my lip, this can't be good. I hesitate about opening the door. I am tired, I don't want to argue with him again.

"Stephanie I know that you are in there, open the door!"

I sigh and then I open.

"What do you want?" I say and cross my arms.

"I am here to pick you up. You need to come with me"

"Why?" I ask skeptical.

"There´s a vampire on the res."

"What?"

"Quil and Jared caught the scent of a leech on patrol. It's not safe for you to be here alone, I am taking you to Sam´s".

Jacob looks serious and stressed. I nod and quickly put my shoes on and bring the keys. Before I am about to lock the door Jacob makes a sound. I turn around and look at him.

"It's cold, you should bring a jacket or something"

I put on a warm sweater and then Jacob puts his hand on my arm and hurriedly ushers my forwards. I look around but don't see a car.

"Where is your car?"

"I just came from the woods, there wasn't time for me to go and get my car. We´ll walk there, I know a fast way"

"But you just said that there is a vampire on the reservation?"

Is he trying to kill me?

"You are safe with me" Jacob says. And somehow I believe him.

We walk in the woods and follow a trail. We don't talk with each other. Jacob looks tense and I feel scared. After a while he turns around.

"Bring your hood up. It covers your smell"

"Please" I say

"What?" He snaps at me

"Can you please bring your hood up? Just because you are a wolf doesn't mean that you can bark at me" I continue. I see how Jacob is fighting back a laugh.

"Okay can you please bring your hood up Stephanie so you don't get killed?" Jacob says and rolls his eyes.

"Yes of course Jacob" I say and pull my hood up. We continue walking.

"Wait, what about my aunt and uncle?" I ask

"Sam called them, they are still at work and are going straight to Sue´s house after work until the coast is clear" Jacob answers.

After a couple of more minutes I see Sam and Emily´s house.

"Okay there it is, ehm thank you for walking me, I guess" I start

"No I want to make sure that you get inside" Jacob interrupts and for some strange reason I feel my stomach flutter. He puts his warm hand on my arm and escorts me all the way to the door and opens it for me. I get inside and are just about to thank him when I turn around and realize that he has already left.

Emily makes me dinner and after a while Sam comes back. They got it. They killed it, the vampire. I cant believe that I have lived my entire life unbeknown of all the mystical creatures that exist among us. Vampires are real. And they are not far away. After a while Abby and Tauri pick me up and we drive home.

A couple of days later it's the last night before school starts again tomorrow. Apparently it's tradition here to end the summer break with a bonfire and this will also be a special night. It's the first time I am hearing the legends since I found out that they were real. I am excited. I love bonfires. And since the other day it feels more okay between Jacob and I. I wouldn't say that we are back to being friends again but it seems like Jacob can handle me being around without exploding.

My grandpa comes by and picks up Quil and I. I am wearing black skinny jeans and a beige knitted sweater and my hair is softly curled. I have even baked brownies that I am bringing. This will be a good night.

We are among the last ones to arrive. Kim looks happy to see me again which makes me glad. Emily and Seth are standing by a table with all the food and drinks.

"Hi Emily! Hi Seth!" I greet them and put the brownies on the table.

"Wow Steph, I didn't know that you bake" Seth says with big eyes. I laugh.

I look around, Paul and Leah are on patrol and the other person missing is Jacob. Embry comes to greet me and gives me a light kiss on the cheek. I smile. Embry is starting to feel like an older brother. The atmosphere is relaxed and happy. I sit by Kim and Jared as I am eating a hotdog. Jared is really funny and I am laughing loudly.

Suddenly the atmosphere tenses.

"Is he kidding me? He can't bring her here" Jared says and turns to look at Sam.

I look at Sam who looks tense, he is looking at two people coming from a car. It´s Jacob. And Bella. He brought Bella.
